OMG this place is amazing!!! My first visit, I followed the advice of the fellow yelpers and got the Chai tea! The second time, I brought my friend from out of town, who asked how the tea would go with a shot of expresso. The guy behind the counter, Sam, goes "well it depends if you like the taste of coffee- I have it all the time though." We do like the taste of coffee, and chai, so we braved it- oh, and what an excellent decision this turned out to be! You could barely (if at all) taste the espresso, and you get all the benefits of coffee espresso, combined with the delicious taste of chai tea! Delicious!!! I also got the sandwich with escarole, brie, tomatoes on the focaccia bread once (delicious), as well as the one with mixed veggies and spicy chicken that's always behind the counter (also delicious). Only two downsides to this place: they don't accept credit cards (but when I asked where the nearest ATM was, he said he could prepare it while I went 2 minutes across the road to grab some cash--quite nice), and it doesn't have wifi (SUCH a shame- this place would otherwise have been my new hangout! Sam was sweet and tried to be helpful-he said "we don't have wifi, but if you go to Starbucks, they do I believe!" Bless him). All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this place! Just make sure to bring some cash and a dongle and you could sit here all day while drinking coffee, getting some work done, and eating delicious sandwiches they prepare right in front of you! They make the most amazing chai lattes here and they're only £2.95. They use Big Train chai mix, which I really believe is the best in the world. The sandwiches are also amazing. You can mix and match all the toppings to make your own, and they're huge, tasty and fairly cheap. My fave is bacon, chicken escalopes, pesto, brie, and avocado on a foccacia. They are so generous with the toppings and it's never more than £6 for a sandwich that's really big enough for two. read more

What a great place to get a breakfast or a tea break near Kings Cross! After staying in the KIngs Cross area for three nights, I noticed that the station is surrounded with only chain stores - until I found Pompidou Cafe, which is a nice local cafe owned by two brothers and their father. Not only do they have a nice selection of drinks and pastry display, the menu is also enticing. The best part is that despite being so close to the main crossroad of central London transport, the price here is very reasonable - I got a breakfast plate and tea for only around £10! Anyway, I recommend swinging by here if you are in need to eat or drink something or take a break when you are around Kings Cross! read more

We were looking for a nice breakfast place near our hotel and we stumbled into here fortuitously. The cafe is small and a bit cramped, but they found us a table and we ordered our breakfast. I got a sausauge and egg baguette and my fiancee got a strawberries and cream crepe, both of which were very good. The prices were pretty good for London and it was one of the best breakfasts we had in London. I used to pop in this little cafe when I worked in the area if I wanted lunch on my own as it's only small, welcoming and there are usually other lone lunchers dotted about, so I never felt too out of place. Their panninis are really good value and I like the Mediterranean roast vegetable and brie one, served with a nice mini portion of fresh salad. It's very clean in here and the savory food always tastes like pretty good quality even though from the outside the cafe really doesn't look like anything special. They also do a soya alternative to all the hot drinks which is a plus. One odd thing though, are their highly priced slices of cake that are rubbish and very cheap tasting. I've tried the so-called carrot cake and it was just a sponge cake with yellowy icing and a mini carrot made of icing on top, a definite no-no! The only real complaint I do have is that they play the radio far too loudly behind the counter which can be off putting whilst you eat, but for a snappy lunch here's OK to pop into. read more

Went here today for a quick bite to eat and was not disappointed by the cafe my friends had been telling me great things about. I had the spanish omelette which was served with a side salad full of lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. What I really liked about this place however was their exceptionally friendly staff. I stopped in to grab lunch, but when I went to pay and took out my credit card the employee informed me the cafe was cash only. At this I told the worker I would have to go elsewhere because I did not have any cash in my wallet. He kindly informed me that there was a bank just a few stores down and that he would prepare my food while I went to use the ATM. I was on a search for some hot soup and stumbled upon Pompidou-- turns out they have homemade soups everyday! I had lentil w/ cumin-- very tasty. Also, the owner and staff are really nice and friendly. Kareem (sp?), the owner, even asked if I had any requests for soup in the future. I'm an LA native, so I'm afraid I won't get to be a regular, but I totally would if I lived in London. BTW-- if you're into chai lattes, I have to say mine was pretty good. I was on my way to King's Cross, it was early and I'd been forced out of the house without my morning coffee. As I was walking toward the train station I came across Pompidou Cafe and decided to pop in for a take-away coffee, I'm so glad I did. The staff was exceptionally friendly and quickly made my drink and had me on my way. The Americano was strong and full of flavour. As I walked toward the train station I could feel the cobwebs clearing with each sip of delicious coffee. Pompidou made excellent coffee and whenever I'm in the neighbourhood, that's the shop I'll go to for coffee! read more

Cozy little cafe near King's Cross. We came here for my first English breakfast. Quick and efficient service in slightly cramped quarters. The food was decent - I think it's really more my fault that I don't like the greasiness of a full English breakfast. However, my eggs were a bit rubbery and cold by the time they got to my table. I felt really heavy and lethargic for the rest of the day, but again, this is probably just my own opinion. My companion thoroughly enjoyed their English breakfast and raved about it for a week. read more

Thanks Yelp for suggesting this place for breakfast. We arrived very early in London and before a long day needed somewhere reasonable to eat. As it was close to Euston & the British Library we thought we'd give it a go. There's something lovely about it's no frills attitude, just an honest cafe doing full English breakfasts, sandwiches and lovely tea in a relaxed manner. I plumped for the scrambled eggs with a side of hash browns and Early Grey tea which hit the spot nicely. It was always busy but the staff took it all in their stride and we didn't feel as if we were being rushed to finish our meal quickly. read more

How this place has more than 3 stars, I'll never know; I'm giving it two because the omelet I had was not horrible, but not amazing, either. My boyfriend and I walked into this place and were immediately yelled at by the two owner-brothers (I assume they're brothers, they look like twins) to stop standing at the bar looking at croissants and sit if I wanted to have breakfast. My boyfriend and I then asked the server if they had "real coffee, from a filter", and the waiter said "yes". Then he snappily asked "Black or White??", I asked what white was, and he said, "it's just coffee with milk in it". He walked back after a 15 minute wait with two Americanos - NOT filtered coffee; and, apparently a "White" is basically a small latte, or an attempt at a cafe au lait (cafe au lait must be made with filtered coffee) - meaning milk was foamy, which I didn't expect. Anyway, that's my little rant - I didn't feel very welcome, we were perpetually confused, and we kept getting yelled and snapped at. When it came time for the check, we were told to find the server and get the check from him, which means we had to track him down, get the ticket, and then go pay at the bar. So, 1) an Americano is NOT filtered coffee, 2) provide water to customers (they don't do that anywhere in the UK, actually), and 3) drop the check off when we're done eating instead of making us find the server. It was also amazingly hot in there, we were both sweating by the time we left. :( read more

One of the few place's near kings cross that isn't flipping Nandos or pizza express, it's kind of a cross between a greasy spoon and a bakery cafe, but in quite a pleasant, no frills kind of way. It's family run, and probably best fro breakfast or lunch, substantial full englishes (with sausages that aren't completely horrendous) sandwiches, pastries, cakes, scones and crepes of all things. Dropped in for a late breakfast with the family - the full English was fast and hot and came with a very nice coffee; whilst the kids waxed lyrical about their sausage and bacon baguettes! Plenty of other options on offer that looked great (based on the tables near us). There was a steady stream of customers coming and going so despite the limited number of tables no-one waited for very long for a seat. Great place to stumble upon! Their coffee is great and their food is very good. We had some croissants, coffee and breakfast club sandwiches. They were all very fresh and very good. Place was packed at 10:00 on a weekday so we had to take our food to go but not an issue. Try their fresh squeezed orange juice ! My favorite little cafe in London...I looked for cafes on Yelp one morning and found this as it was near to where I was staying. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Full of locals and a huge menu of delicious food. There are interesting things like jacket potatoes that I saw several people eating and looked delicious. I had a lox bagel and mocha for under €7. I enjoyed my time there so much I came back the next morning for avocado toast and tea. Would recommend to anyone. read more
