    Full English Breakfast
    Ingrid V.

"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier..." --JRR Tolkien If we were in the world of Tolkien, and a bunch of travelers wandered into an inn for some good food and good times, Joe's Kitchen is what I envision that food being like. The atmosphere is comfortable, the service is quick and helpful, and the menu features comfort food at it's best! This was my first Full English Breakfast and I loved everything about it!! I am a huge fan of their floppy, non-crispy bacon as well as the black pudding! I feel like baked beans should be a part of every breakfast now! This ended up being a bit too large so luckily I could share with my hubs. HP Sauce is new to me! It seems to be a condiment found all over London, but I never see it in the US. It tastes like Katsu / Teriyaki sauce. Not bad, but it didn't match the flavors on the plates we ordered. I also loved Bubble and Squeak! It's made of smashed potatoes, onions, and cabbage, then fried until golden brown. I'll be trying new recipes of this at home in the future! My hubs really enjoyed his Bacon Butty. (Bacon and butter on toast). It was more of that floppy tender bacon that we love so much. And again, more tea with milk and sugar. I took mine plain like the filthy American animal that I am.

We wandered into this little restaurant after a long afternoon of walking around London. My husband was on the threshold of hungry and hangry. So gave this place a go. This was our first try at a proper British fish and chips. Our American palates were quite impressed at the Lightness of the batter and delicate flavor. I am the adventurous one when it comes to food so I had the black pudding aka blood sausage. Yummy!! I have to be honest though, I also like chocolate soup (it does not have chocolate nor is it a soup.). The service was great and the libations were quite fantastic.

I would strongly recommend Joe's Kitchen as my favorite restaurant near St. Paul's. Get there early as breakfast is their best meal, although lunches are also of a high degree of quality. Anything made with eggs seems to be among their best choices, and they do an excellent job with minor twists on traditional British classics. People often stop in during weekdays on their way to and from university or with co-workers taking a lunch break together, creating an inviting non-stuffy atmosphere which is a welcome contrast to the direct conviviality of a pub or the formality of one of the more upscale places nearby. During the week I spent in London I always appreciated being able to drop in here during the daytime. The full vegetarian British breakfast is my number one favorite.

Cute interior. Try to grab a seat by the window!

This place has a cute interior with a huge dining room but I'm partial to the space up front, by the windows, close to the entrance. Snagged a high top and watched the foot traffic passing by. Visited for lunch while swinging by St. Paul's, a chip shot away. They have a great fixed price lunch option. Got the burger with soup fries and slaw, very filling for a reasonable price. The purple cabbage slaw was the star to me! The French onion soup was different that what I'm accustomed to, as it was puréed and seemed to have some cream mixed in, but was tasty.

I visited London in the middle of December and heard good things about Joe's Kitchen. I went there for a quick dinner (twice) and it didn't disappoint. The first time I went, the service was great. It could've been better the second time, though. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, since they were much busier the second time I was there. I ordered their Mango Green Tea Lemonade, which is one of their hand-crafted softs on their drink menu. It's incredibly refreshing and very tasty. As for the food, I ordered the Fish & Chips and the Beef & Ale Pie. Fish & Chips were decent, but the highlight of my two visits to Joe's Kitchen definitely has to be the Beef & Ale Pie. It was very hot (just the way I like it) and filled with flavour. The pastry was also very puffy and nice. Overall, I definitely would recommend this place if you're ever in London. I know for sure I'm going back the next time I'm in London.

It's open on Saturday..not sure why it says it's closed today. You can have breakfast for lunch if you so desire. I had traditional fair of eggs bacon spinach and potatoes- really liked the bacon..has a grilled smoked flavor and less fat than traditional American bacon. My husband had eggs Benedict which he didn't enjoy as much..ate mine instead. Nice relaxed atmosphere and service decent.

Sausage, bacon wrapped asparagus, black blood pudding, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, fruit and grilled banana. All delicious.

Best breakfast in London. The bacon is superb and succulent. The coffee here has been the best thus far.

Their servings are HUGE, and are so affordable too! I left wishing my mother and I had the ability to save our leftovers for later, because we hated wasting any of the delicious food that we ordered. Even before we got our food we were pretty excited. When you walk in you're greeted here with a beautiful sight: fresh sandwiches, bread, and pastries, all on display right at their main counter. Once we were seated I noticed little flower pots line the window, too. Fresh food and flowers - what more can you ask from a cafe for a first impression? We also loved the owner and his wife: they were very kind and they constantly kept us up to date on our food order, just to mention what was done and what they still needed to do or cook. They clearly work hard to provide fresh fast meals - and we learned quickly as people came in and out of the place that takeaway is available here. But we wanted to enjoy a sit down meal, and enjoy we did! I started mine with fresh squeezed juice - we're talking so fresh you'll want to add sugar to it if you're used to the juice that comes in stores. And when our English breakfasts came out? Just, wonderful. My mother and I each received SO much food. Both meals came with amazing buttered bread (like, I would have happily eaten an entire plate of bread and only bread), hash browns so fresh that they may as well have given us the original potatoes (yum), and what I can really only describe as a mountain of beans, eggs, and meat (well, on mine anyway - not so much on my mother's vegetarian breakfast order). All of it absolutely delicious, and every single bite made me smile wider and wider. Definitely walk on in if you're near this little shop. Don't be afraid to order one meal and share it if there's only two of you, either - you'll likely both leave well fed, and you can always order a little more food if you want too from that great looking counter of theirs...
