Some of the best BBQ I've had in NorCal! We visited on a rainy Saturday at lunchtime and it wasn't busy at all. It's located in a little market, and there's dog friendly casual patio seating outside. Every cut in the three meat sampler platter was really flavorful and tender. I loved the bread that it came with too to make little bbq sandwiches; those were devoured so fast. We also tried the bbq chili which was so good and perfect for a cold day. Will definitely return when I'm in Sonoma again!

Came here for lunch during Easter weekend. Was a bit crowded but not overly packed - there was a steady line but plenty of seating. I knew they were known for bbq, so I wanted to try out something that featured bbq meats even though it was pretty early in the afternoon. My partner and I got/split a BLT and a brisket sandwich. Both were great, and I'm not usually a sandwich person. The bacon in the BLT was nice and thick, which I don't typically see in that type of sandwich. The brisket was a little dry in some parts but the sauce helped that. Overall, both were solid and satisfying.

Right off the main square lies some of the best BBQ in North County Bay Areas. The Butcherman brings authentic BBQ to Sonoma. We had the sample platter with brisket, sausage, Pulled pork and ribs. Scrumptious . Excellent smoke flavor. Our sides were Mac and cheese and potato salad. Killer atmosphere, meats and sides. Some nice Sonoma County Red wine to top it off! Love this place!

Located inside a cheese / deli restaurant, we didn't know what to expect. The ambiance was an upscale joint for a picnic. We were most impressed with the sandwiches we had - meat was paired with the perfect cheese. There were a wide variety of beverages, too - wine, beer, ciders, sparkling drinks, & cola. Salads were fresh. You can even have a wine & cheese tasting! This is the perfect 1st stop in Sonoma especially of you want to prep a picnic basket. If you're not sure what to pack, just ask. Service is very friendly!

So, so good sandwiches. Nice spot for an affordable lunch. We came in between wine tastings and had the Philly Cheesesteak and Brisket sandwich. The bread and meats were perfectly cooked. So tasty and hit the spot. I love how it's a market and restaurant with wine and beers. Plenty of seating inside and out. Order at the counter and then wait for your buzzer to pick up and eat your food. You can smell the smoker cooking outside. I can't wait to come back!

An A+ deli, coffee shop, and fine foods purveyor just on the Sonoma Square that should be on your 'must visit' list. ?The folks working here are knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to patiently answer almost any obscure question that you might have! I highly recommend sitting in the window to enjoy your coffee or a sandwich anytime of year because of it's beautiful view.

Pretty nice stumble on a late afternoon weekend lunch. This legit bbq joint subleases the back corner area of The Sonoma Cheese Company's store. They have a kitchen and a pick-up window in that corner with communal tables, a few TV screens and a patio off to the side. But you have to place your order at one of the registers up front in the main store. I saw lots of people try to order at that pick-up window to only get sent back into the main store. Once order gets placed, your food is ready pretty quick, like less than 10 minutes for mine. Mortadella Sandwich ($15/4.5*) Outside of legit smoked meats, this place also does a few well made deli sandwiches, more Italian style from my look. This was a great sandwich all around. From the soft yet chewy Italian roll, to the thinly sliced mortadella that was folded atop each other so it has an airy bite versus a dense bite. To the fresh and soft mozzarella slices to the generous schmear of vibrant pesto with notable flecks of nuts. I suppose my only knock was that it could have used some produce like arugula to break up the heavy cured meat bites. Tri-Tip ($30/lb-4*) I ordered a half pound and they were really generous with their serving, which will get me to come back for sure. I loved the texture of their tri-tip as they actually kept it medium-ish with a touch of pink even, so it was so satisfyingly chewy yet tender. Great spice rub bark, but they also marinade this in something with soy and citrus. The flavor was initially well received, but the more bites I took, the more it got tiresome, like I just wanted more natural beef flavor. I think they could make this marinade either a bit more balanced or less intense. Coleslaw ($8/3.5*) Their small size could easily feed 2-3. Beautifully shredded cabbage, like they use a mandolin as it was so fine and consistent. Perfectly dressed amount wise as it was still crunchy but well coated. But their slaw dressing is very mild, bordering on bland. Needs more tang/sweet balance. Brisket ($33/5*) I got a half pound of this as well. Nice thick slices that hold up when you pick it up, it doesn't break from it's own weight. Noticeable pink smoke ring and great texture and flavor. Smoke is definitely on the heavier side without a tough and dry bark. They definitely got their process down. So this place wasn't around last time I was in this town a few years ago but so glad they are now here. I hope they thrive cuz I'd love for them to be a staple resource for my getaways here. Stoked.

Wish I had better things to say after visiting The Butcherman. This spot is located Downtown Sonoma and has a good variety of BBQ dishes & sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, coffee, and more. They had seating both inside and outside which was nice. We stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered ahead for pick up as we were on a tight schedule. The food sadly wasn't ready on time so they started making it after I arrived. They apologized as it was a ticketing system error. We sat down to eat and had to go back up to asked for bbq sauces. I got the Grilled Cheese which didn't really have a flavor pop. My husband got the TriTip sandwich which was the redeeming quality of the visit. This spot seems good at what they know best, bbq food, but services has some room for improvement.

Overpriced, small portions, and overall poor quality. For two small sandwiches, a side of mac and cheese and two waters the total was $70. The mac and cheese is microwaved slop. How do I know? Because ours came out completely cold in the middle. I had to have them reheat, which they did. My sandwich, the BLT, was burnt. Bread was black and rock hard, and to my surprise the only ingredients were bacon, lettuce, and tomato. No sauces, no aioli, no flavor, nothing. $17 for burnt bread and 3 ingredients. My partner got the tri tip and although the sandwich was skinny and small like mine, his has a lot of meat and was delicious. The bread was not burned, the meat was great, and the aioli was amazing. So, if you ever feel like getting robbed in the light of day to stuff your mouth with subpar food this is the spot for you. Otherwise, I do not recommend.

This place won me over last year! So whenever I'm in town I stop by. This time I had a brisket sandwich and my husband had the cubano. I normally don't like too much meat, but this meat is so flavorful and tender. I tried my husbands Cubano and it was delicious. Very big as well. We got potato salad and mac and cheese and they didn't wow me this time around but I'm sure a lil salt would have helped the potato salad.

Outstanding food - we ordered the Cubano & the Brisket. Both were amazing! The portions are large enough to share. Good atmosphere- enjoyed sitting outside in downtown Sonoma. Service was good !

Gourmet sandwiches! They bbq tri tip and have a delicious smoked turkey. A local told us about this place and the chef worked for Thomas Keller for years. Excellent flavors. It's a casual place inside the Sonoma cheese factory where you can buy drinks or snacks. Bench seating inside and outside. Great place for a picnic or quick meal.

What a great spot for a fast, easy delicious meal! Went there with a 12 year old and we loved our food and all the fun food you could buy from the Sonoma Cheese Factory. I got the heirloom tomato salad and she had the pulled pork sandwich and we both ate every bite. We had an Arnold Palmer to drink which 12 yr old said was the best ever because it wasn't too much tea and not too sweet. I'd like to try more. Service was great and made sure we understood the sandwiches and made suggestions. We'll be back!!!

As I was heading back to the square (where there is an abundance of restaurants), I didn't want the busyness of the scene; thankfully, I got on Instagram, typed "good eats in Sonoma", and BAM! Salumeria Ovello popped up on my feed, and thank goodness it did! An easy 4-minute walk from Vallejo House, Salumeria Ovello is owned by Andrea, who is a Michelin-star chef from the area of Piedmont, Italy. Having been to Italy twice this past year alone, I remember quite well the quality and taste of the classed Italian Sandwiches. The worker who served at the counter was very helpful, and within the restaurant --- there are just a few seats. I'd say, 3 tables with two seats at each table. For my food, I decided to order the Massimo --- which is on "sliced Focaccia, and has sun dried tomatoes, stracciatella di burrata, prosciutto cotto, basil pesto and crumbled taralli (crackers)". Each sandwich is made fresh-to-order, and you can taste the quality. Each ingredient worked together in harmony, and to satisfy the americani in me, I definitely enjoyed the taralli in the sandwich --- reminded me of putting chips in my sandwiches in school. While I waited, Andrea also brought out some slices of salami for me to try --- free of charge, which was very kind of him to do. All in all, if you want to get away from the busyness of the Mission Square, take a 4-minute walk to Salumeria Ovello, and you'll find a little piece of Italy in Sonoma! Ciao tutti!

You go all the way back to the deli, grab a paper and pen and fill out the sheet on how you want your sandwich. Then place it on the counter and they stick it in line. Sandwiches take a few minutes especially if you want it hot or toasted. If you want a burrito or some special not on the paper, just announce it to them and they'll make a paper and put it in line. They put a ton of meat of the sandwiches. We were very pleased. I went with the cucumber which was 0.50 extra so my sandwich was $15.99. My husband got the pesto which is also an extra charge. They forgot the pesto but we took the sandwich to go, so we didn't realize that. The next time we got lunch, I had the burrito and it needed salsa or hot sauce. Luckily, we ate outside in the covered seating area and I was able to go back in to get hot sauce AND the pesto sauce they forgot a second time. What is it about the pesto that they forget? They offered to remake the sando but I said no just gimme a side. Apparently there is hot sauce by the microwave FYI. The store has all kinds of drinks and snacks. We grabbed two small bags of chips. They also have premade meals for lunch dinner and even breakfast. Everything looked so good. If I lived there, I would shop all the time. They have a butcher shop as well. There is a small bathroom around the back for customers. And a sink in the covered eating area to wash your hands. Parking is along the street or their little lot. Check this place out. Fast forward to present day, I recently got myself to Lou's for lunch. The fried chicken plate is gone off the menu. Instead it is a more concise menu focused on single items versus full entree plates. Casual eats and counter service. Darn cute small diner feel inside. Modern retro country diner aesthetics. The menu focuses on hamburgers (starting at $8), hot dogs ($7+), sides, chicken sandwiches including chicken 'n biscuits ($6), milkshakes, floats, craft beer, ciders, and wine. I studied this menu to figure out what the closest thing to fried chicken would be. I landed on ordering the #1 Chicken biscuit. It's fried chicken, honey butter, and hot sauce on a buttermilk biscuit. Whoa Nelly, that was darn delicious. The fried chicken was boneless light meat. Thick cut with the meat so extremely moist n tender. Crunchy fried and flavorful exterior, seasoned well. Such a satisfying audible crunch. Just like I remembered. I could taste the light touches of hot sauce in the crust. Then that biscuit. Mmm. Heavenly. Crunchy top and bottom with fluffy innards. Each bite was fabulous. You know when you eat something so darn delicious, the noise of the world just fades away. I had a food moment. To top that, it was only $6. Not a bad price compared to the size. Another notable thing to point out are the goats. At the back fence ,of the outdoor seating area, look for the old candy dispenser. Instead of being filled with candy, it's filled with goat feed pellets. Put in a quarter, turn the handle to get the pellets to feed the goats. Let me tell ya, once the goats hear the clicking from that knob being turned.... they all come a running and clamoring towards you. Watch out for the more smarter and aggressive ones that muscle the others to get the primo spot to stick their heads through the fence. Remember they can jump so don't stick your head over the fence unless you want a head bump. I chickened out and didn't hand feed them, instead I tossed the pellets over the fence.

Theres always this good balance professionalism with lightheartedness that pair so well for the atmosphere. Because at its core this restaurant is high scale. It definitely has that higher scale vibe but if never comes off as pretentious though. This particular I took my wifey here for our 10th year anniversary together. And we were greeting by a nice little card from the "Fig Family." We ended up trying the Seared Halloumi and I was shocked at how much I liked it. Very light flavors but still enough variety with the crispy spigarello and pine nuts to keep things fun. The lemon never feels too overwhelming. For mains my wife got the Mushroom RisottoI think? Or maybe it was Butternut Squash Risotto? I got the Fig Burger and both were amazing. The only reason I didn't get her Risotto was simply because I already had it at lunch time, but that still didn't stop me from taking a bite. Each rice like grain had a perfect chew and flavor to each bite. Even being the picky person that I am with veggies, I appreciated the veggies addition to the dish. I still think though that the sure winner was my Fig Burger. This burger is everything we wish our local breweries burger was. A harmonic balance between salty and sweet. Im down to get a little crazy with burgers but if it's too sweet, it kinda loses the appeal for me. It takes away too much from the burgers roots. So yea. Go here. Make reservations too. I know for myself I made mine about a month in advance so it's hard to say how hard it is to get a table here. But hopefully it's not too bad. Parking by the way is just street parking. Despite that Ive always been able to get a park on W Spain St right before I pull up to the restaurant. OH! And thanks again Girl and the Fig family! You made the end to our anniversary quite magical!
