For once, I wish I could give more than 5 stars! I cannot say enough great things about my experience at The Burrow. I came in because I realized my hair was starting to take on an orange, brassy tone. Enders did an AMAZING job fixing it (even with my killer thick hair). I ended up getting 3/4 foil, toner, and a conditioning treatment. My hair turned out soft, blonde, and incredibly natural looking. During my appointment, everyone was so friendly and made me feel at home. I can't imagine ever finding a better place to get my hair done...already counting down the days until I go back! read more

When you find a good hairdresser - you follow them. You follow them wherever they may go. Andrew is my guy. He went to join some people he loved working with, and I followed. There was easy, online appointment booking. Not having to make a phone call is my favorite! I drove into the city and while parking was not "a breeze" - there is plenty of onstreet metered parking and within a minute or two I found a spot, and used parkmobile to pay. You walk up the stairs into a beautiful space. Exposed brick. Huge wooden framed mirrors. Black chairs. Hair wash stations that seem like magic! You sit down, there's a towel, and then as you sink back, the leg support is electronically raised to sweep you off your feet! Makes for a much more relaxed hair washing experience. There are lots of great little touches. Even the soap in the bathroom smells great. The staff I didn't know were also friendly and competent! (my favorite combination) When I set up my next appointment I also got a text with date and time so I didn't have to worry about jamming it into my calendar right there. (as of now) they also let you tip on your card which I love. I had cash just in case, but sometimes forget to think ahead and its a great convenience. While I'm always thrilled with Andrew's work, I also love the new salon!!! read more

Got a trim with Andrew and he somehow managed to cut the perfect side "swoop" back into my hair that my other stylists have not understood that I wanted to see in my hair! Even though I was a few mins late he was gracious, attentive, and understood what I was coming in for. I have thick hair and he effortlessly took out the bulk and set it up for growing out nicely. He even gave me his suggestions for what to do with my highlights if I were to come back again. Guess what, I will be back and take him up on his suggestion! Bonus: he's a bonafide "dog person", and those are the people I trust most! Thanks for a wonderful first experience! I needed a haircut before COVID started back in March, so to say I was long overdue for a haircut is understating things. I showed up with a vague idea of what I wanted (I literally didn't even have reference photos) and Shaneya gave me a perfect cut and color. Shaneya is very talented and so sweet. I've gotten many different dye jobs and hair styles done over the years, but this is one of my absolute favorite looks. I've been living in DC for almost a year now and after trying a new salon/barber every time I get my haircut, I've finally found my place! The Burrow is amazing! I have short hair and as a queer woman with short hair, it is difficult to find someone who knows what to do with it. I have had many an awkward cut from barbers and salon staff at other establishments, but I was immediately reassured when I set foot in The Burrow. Leah was an absolute joy to talk with and asked questions along the way to make sure the cut was what I wanted. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and we worked from there. She was talkative, but not too talkative which is great. The shop is small and they will offer you a drink upon entering. Everyone I interacted with was super professional and helpful. I have trust issues with my hair... but let me tell you - I ADORE Enders. My tight group of girlfriends all agree: when one of us found Enders, we ALL found Enders. Now he has been cutting my hair for about four years! I appreciate his expertise and skill - I have always walked away thrilled with my cut, pep in my step, and with renewed self-confidence. This salon is amazing. The staff is professional and friendly and this was a great experience from start to finish. The shampoo wash was HEAVENLY. My hair was cut by Leah and she was amazing. She listened to what I wanted but also offered her professional opinion and she answered my questions throughout our appointment. At most salons I've been to I feel rushed and unvalued but Leah spent so much time with me and really worked with me to get my hair to where I wanted it. Wow. I had Enders give me a cut this week, and I'm happy to say I think I've found my salon in DC! I came in desperately needing a trim, and wasn't really sure what I wanted. Enders talked me down from getting lots of layers, after confirming that I'm more of a wash and quick blow dry type of person. He took some length off and gave me some texture, and showed me how to style waves into my hair with a flat iron. The space is bright and cozy. Finally, the price can't be beat for the quality of the cut. I love that you can use Venmo for tips, since I ALWAYS forget to bring cash and then have to frantically look for a nearby atm. read more

I recently saw Andrew for balayage and I am unhappy with the result. My hair was already quite blonde on the ends and my roots were quite dark so I asked for a softer, more natural look (while also covering my greys). The end result was orange hair. When I returned to the salon to have my colour fixed (after a holiday & an emergency haircut abroad) Andrew got his assistant to put through a toner. My hair is now a flat muddy brown. I was asked to blow dry my own hair at the end of the appointment because Andrew was too busy. I paid $275 to have my hair done at the Burrow & I wished that I didn't bother. read more

I went for my second visit (summer hair color was fading away and turning orange) but this time due to scheduling conflicts I went with Leah- which turned out amazing. Leah was very attentive and great with recommendations. I accidentally booked a wrong coloring session which only allowed much less time than balayage would require but Leah made it work. I learned all about the art of glossing?! Glazing?? I also really appreciated how she allowed me to express what I liked about the color/not like about the color on a first try so she went out of her way to gloss again (which she took notes every step of the way and put it on my profile for the next time) which resulted in me walking out with the exact (perfect) shade of color I wanted. I really appreciated her service and personality because I would've walked out with the color that resulted on a first try with a small amount of regret not being able to express myself. I have been debating a long time whether to write this but I finally decided it needs to be said. Be careful with Enders. He is talented but has chosen to be overworked rather than dedicated to his craft and his customers. He gave me a great haircut but I left him after he made me cry in his chair. Enders was my hairdresser long enough that I followed him to the Burrow from his old salon. He gave me a wonderful cut - which is not always easy because I have very thick straight hair with a slight wave. I adored his cuts. I also had him do highlights but would patch in the roots on my own at home between bouts of his nice but expensive color sessions. When he moved to the Burrow, I followed him. But he got some good write ups and the salon was doing well and soon he was booked several weeks out. I had always been able to get an appointment with him with a week or two notice but one time I called and he could not fit me in for a cut for six weeks! There wasn't even any attempt to squeeze me in. When my appointment rolled around, I told him I had been unable to get an appointment with him and he just shrugged and said "I can't help it if I am so popular." I was not thrilled with that, but decided to just make sure I had appointments well in advance. The next appointment, we talked about the need to recolor my hair. He told me to book an appointment for a "full head" so there would be enough time. I did that. When I went that day, we talked about highlights and possibly lowlights and he did his thing. He knew I had a wedding to go to that weekend and I wanted to look good. Two hours later he unveils my highlights and my roots are dark, so I look all stripey. When I asked him about it, he said "Well you didn't book the roots!" So I am sitting there, knowing I am about to spend close to $300, and I asked him what I was supposed to do. He told me to go to CVS on the way home and get color for the roots. He even told me what shade to buy. I sat there for a few minutes trying to work this out. He was acting like this was normal. I am a woman in my 50s and have been cutting and coloring my hair for a long time. I'd never experienced leaving the salon with my hair half done before. Could it be that he was right and I just didn't know how this works? I said to him that he gives me the best haircut I've ever had, but he should have said something to me if he saw that i needed roots and he was not planning on doing that. He could have said something and told me what it would cost. Instead, he was sending me out without. His response was to get defensive and say "well you don't do your roots with me. you haven't even done color with me this year!" then he loudly calls across the salon to the receptionist and says "when was the last time she came in for color? and how many times was she here this year?" This was August. the receptionist said I'd had him do my color twice that year so far. So I am in his chair, feeling berated, shamed, vulnerable and cheated. I couldn't understand why my hairdresser had turned on me and why he felt the need to humiliate me like that. He finished blowing my hair and I paid the bill ($300 with tip) and then went straight to CVS on my way home to finish my haircolor. It looked great. But the feeling that someone had really mistreated me persisted. I have not gone back to Enders since. I am still looking for someone who can give me a great haircut. But I will not mortify my soul for that. Enders, you were unprofessional, abusive and downright mean. Shame on you. read more

They are absolutely fantastic! Super nice, friendly, professional, and do an amazing job. I went right after everything reopened and they extremely clean and careful. Everyone wears a mask at all times and they clean right after you touch anything. They do a very light hair dry at the end so not to spread germs. I love the Burrow! I moved to DC in 2016 and it took me 2 years to finally find a salon that I feel comfortable in. Even my husband goes here now. I always see Enders, while my husband has a less flexible schedule and has booked with multiple people. Decent prices for DC, excellent stylists, and a nice atmosphere. I should also mention that my husband and I are on two ends of the spectrum in terms of hair. He has thick, thick hair, while I have fine hair. When I emailed them about my hair idea I received a quick response, and Jarrell was very helpful on the phone, working with my schedule to make an appointment. The salon is beautiful, with funky light fixtures and a warm vibe. Ryan is an amazing professional who worked to understand what I really wanted and executed it better than I could have hoped for. I moved to DC this year after graduating college, and I was looking for a salon to give my hair a new look (I've never had my hair professionally done before). My appointment was with Chaz, and he really took the time to understand what I was looking for while being careful with my naturally thin, fine, dirty blonde hair. After the appointment, I was a bit disappointed as my hair hadn't lifted much and was still a very dark blonde (I was, however, thrilled with my long layered haircut). I sent The Burrow an email with pictures and an explanation as to why I wasn't feeling 100% about my hair, and they quickly got me back into the salon for a follow-up appointment (free of charge). Chaz did a wonderful job listening to my concerns, and he did a beautiful light golden blonde balayage all over my hair, brightening my blonde while still leaving it looking extremely natural.
