We wanted a white table cloth place with a variety of foods close to Navy RTC for our sailor's graduation celebration. This served well, and I would recommend it for others looking for this, though I have some criticisms of both food and service The ambiance is just lovely. We were here in February and all diners were seated in a glassed in area with views of white lights in the garden. Parking: pull up if you want valet. Otherwise street parking was within 1 block You CAN make a reservation here and that was important to me because my sailor had a firm deadline. One can also order off of the pub menu ( which adds items like chicken pot pie and shepherds pie) and the sushi menu When my sailor had his cottage pie placed in front of him, he said "elegant" more than once. After three months of cafeteria food, it is just what he wanted and it made him feel celebrated My salmon was average-- nicely presented and edible but nothing amazing. We also had the chicken and another fish dish. Similarly, they were decent. One diner had a cocktail and though it advertised elderflower and various citrus flavors it just tasted of lemon. The service was -- serviceable. They took our order. They refilled our water. That's about it. They did not offer bread refills, coffee refills, or dessert! They kept trying to clear one diners plate when he wasn't finished. They also brought to go boxes while 2/4 diners were still eating. Ok this dessert thing was weird. They never asked if we wanted dessert menus. They brought a free dessert ( fun getting cake) to our sailor with "congratulations " written in chocolate or jam. That was appreciated but again, weird not to ask any of us if we wanted dessert. The coffee was burnt and average The bathrooms : are lovely and clean There was plenty of room on a Thursday night

Original plan for having thanksgiving dinner at White Hart Pub didn't work out coz the place was packed, retreated to The English Room, which was pleasant surprise! I always thought it would be too stuffy for my liking, but since it wasn't that crowded and there were families with younger children, the dinner went well with great service and great food! My in laws seem to enjoy it as well, which was great. If I have to nitpick, the server should probably know the source of the food...Fanny Bay (oysters) is not on the east coast.

This is a restaurant inside The Deer Path Inn. Lovely environment with most peaceful atmosphere for gatherings or business meals. The Breadless Egg Benedict was a bit disappointed because it was very plain. The heirloom tomatoes was not ripe enough, so it has the pungent smells of the raw tomato. Our other two meals were prepared well and tasted great. We loved the desserts we ordered, the crème brûlée and the Coconut Trifle was just perfect. Two of our cups had stain on them, was changed immediately after we brought the attention to the server. Service can be better for a restaurant this nice

Where to celebrate a special occasion? Your estate in the country? Will & Kate's little English manor? If those venues are not available to you, perhaps you'll stop by The English Room at The Deer Path Inn in Lake Forest. It does feel like you're tucked away in a little ole corner of some Lord or Lady's country home in Berkshire, and not suburban Chicago. Uniformed staff opened the doors for us as we descended into the wood paneled /libraryesque room and then on to a charming garden room that looked onto the lovely patio. We were presented with flutes of champagne for our anniversary. There were other parties celebrating special occasions (a 70-year-old's bday), and most diners were dressed accordingly. We shared calamari and smelts (calamari - great, but I'm still not a fan of smelt). I enjoyed a French onion soup (could have had a stretchier cheese pull) and my companion had a wedge salad. I had the Alaskan halibut and they ordered the Scottish salmon (they were amazed by the baby artichokes). Both entrees were good, fish cooked perfectly, rich and flavored sauces, nice presentation. The service was correct and formal. A surprise- they presented us with a slice of cake with "Happy Anniversary." We had a very nice meal, elegant and traditional. This is where you celebrate an occasion. We have had brunch here before and that is certainly worthy of a celebration.

High Tea at The English Tea Room. Beautiful, inviting, and elegant space for a classic superb tea time. The service was magnificent, we had a vegetarian and a gluten-free request and both were served in their three-tier tray. Morsels and tea were delicious, and the company was lovely. One of the best afternoon tea services in the Chicago area

This was a cool place to eat. We went here to find a local English breakfast. We ate at the pub instead of the dining area. The wait staff were great and served us a delicious English breakfast! ! The environment was family oriented and had a nice vibe. The food was delicious and delicately prepared for the occasion. The food was freshly prepared and a healthy choice.

Had an absolute amazing time taking my daughter for her first formal tea time. They have their personal tea blends as well as traditional and non caffeine options. The staff is attentive and the pricing is reasonable. Pictured is what's served with your choice of tea and they also offered a kid friendly set especially for the Littles. Valet is available as well as street parking and there is a parking area across the street from the Inn where the English Room is located. So excited for this to be our new tradition.

Never a bad meal or service in The English Room. The Dover Sole is my favorite. The staff is always top notch. There is always the appearance that it is hard to get into for some reason, but yet there are empty seats. Excited that one can book reservations on Resy!

Oatmeal; yummy dish with hash brown, sausage and bacon

What a lovely place!. I love the ambience and the price isn't so bad. My kids loved the oatmeal and we split it for the two of them. it includes a small container of walnuts, raisins, and brown sugar. I quite liked the savory dish with hashbrowns and sausages. I wasn't a big fan of the avocado toast though. The pesto cheesy cream that was lathered on, tasted quite strange to me. We also ordered a side dish of berries, which were delicious!

Great ambiance and beautiful garden, we came for breakfast and were craving English breakfast, if you are looking for an authentic one, this will not be it, the beans tasted good just not similar to the UK ones, mushrooms were so thin and little amount, they should be bigger, black pudding was dry, bacon was salty, sausage eggs were good. Coffee was ok. Overall experience was average, but I will be back for the ambience and try their lunch menu.

The Dover sole with half of the filet mignon au poivre. The au poivre seemed to be missing as was the almond crust?

I really wanted to love the English Room. However, I must report a "mixed" review. First, the good. We had the onion soup to start and it was delicious! The flavor was spot on - not too salty but beefy. The mix of cheeses on top were grilled to perfection. My only comment was that it could have used more onions but that may have been due to it not being stirred up in the large pot in the kitchen prior to plating into our bowls? For the main courses we had the Dover Sole and the Filet au Poivre. We wanted to split the two entrees between us. When the waiter presented our entrees he gave us half the fish on each of our plates but the steak remained on one plate. He said the chef said he could not put the steak on each of our plates due to him not being able to split the potatoes, which we found "odd" is the potatoes were puréed? The Sole was ok. It was a tad overcooked and the almond crust was a very thin almost powder of almond which you could not taste. The steak again was ok. The "au poivre" seemed to be missing. The accompaniments to the dishes, especially the vegetable fricassee, were tasty. Also the cippollini onions were sliced and very large which I had never seen. I always have seen these served as small whole onions. Now to the bad. The service was not good. Our server never introduced himself or told us about the specials that night and was not what I would expect when dining. Also, people seemed to be ordering items which were not on the menu. When I asked him about this we were told there was another menu from the bar area which we could have ordered from but never received. I don't think in fairness the waiter was properly trained - maybe he was filling in for someone? We overheard another waiter, I believe his name was George, constantly introducing himself and who appeared to be very professional and really looking after people. As an example, we ordered two drinks - (wine and a cocktail) and our waiter had to ask who ordered which drink as he did not know. The plates sat empty in front of us forever before being cleared away despite the fact that many other staff from the restaurant seemed to be wandering between tables without doing anything. In addition to a "fast service restaurant attitude" he brought our steak knives out after serving our steak. I had already tried to cut the meat without the steak knife when he arrived with it. Also, my husband not only had to ask for more coffee (his cup was empty for some time) but had to wait almost 15 minutes after he had asked our waiter for it and then he had to ask another waiter for it as our waiter had disappeared. This needs to be fixed! I love the hotel and the pub and bar in the basement where we have enjoyed a good meal many times. Please "fix" the service in the English room - someone needs to keep an eye on the service. Thank you -

When you pull up to the plaza you would think anything of the restaurant but when you go inside it's a fun colorful experience. When we were seated we were brought waters and menus. We took some time to look at the menus but ultimately took our server's suggestions on drinks. I ended up having a virgin Rose Colored Glasses drink and absolutely loved it. The drinks were large and I felt they were worth the price. My husband got an old fashioned. To start we got the cheese curds, and when I tell you these cheese curds still live rent free in my mind I kid you not. They were so good, the cheese was battered in a tempura batter with a truffle cream sauce and it made for such an incredible dish! For our entrees we got the pork chop with the brown butter sauces and bavette with a red wine reduction. The pork chop was great with the brown butter you just gotta make sure you mix it up, and the red wine was a bit too salty for me but it was okay because I ended up loving the steak by itself! For our sides we got the grilled zucchini under the snacks option instead of the sides option because I wanted all the fixings. It was a great choice! The fixings really made and I could eat a plate of that and just be happy (with the cheese curds of course). The wiped potatoes were great as well. Now I was going to pass on dessert because I was SO full already, but twist my arm when you tell me the cookie dough ice cream is a must try. It had real cookie dough chunks on top and bottle and the vanilla ice cream was not boring vanilla, I ate almost half of that bowl and couldn't stop. The chocolate chip cookie dough was house made and it was the perfect blend of sweet and salty that tied the whole ice cream bowl together. Can't recommend that enough as well. All in all, we had a great experience! It was so fun to see so many regulars and so many new folks who came in to dine at the same time as us and we all peeked to see who ordered what before we ordered and got some great recs as you can see! Can't wait to come back to enjoy my favorites and more!

Started with the bread and crabcakes and the bread was amazing and definitely fresh but the crabcakes needed more crab and flavor. Basically everything needed more flavor. We also ordered a bottle of wine which our server struggled with and never came over to refill the glasses. Then the entree's; my husband's bolognese was bland and desperately needed at least salt and pepper. Then the real problem was my steak which was supposed to be medium came out well done and then classically when it was recooked came out rare or medium rare if you are being generous. Then the waitress said she would check back and she didn't so I had to get salt myself from the server station which is kinda ridiculous especially when paying $54 for a steak that already has no seasoning which is why they offer free sauces which makes a lot of sense now. When she finally did come back I said it was under but not waiting for it to be overcooked again so reheating it at home with the cold side of mushrooms I ordered WITH my steak. I did talk to the manager after and he was not really helpful or sympathetic and I was really talking to him so in my review I could say well at least management cares but that is not the case here. I gave 2 stars because their drinks are good and the ambiance is nice and the hostess was super friendly and was the star employee after our visit. Also we paid for everything even the cold mushrooms and over/under cooked steak! At minimum also remake my mushrooms or comp them. Would I eat here again hopefully not but it is locationally desirable for me and my in-laws and have lots of GF options so might have to and if I do hopefully they will have made things better.

Staff are friendly too! I've had both the gluten-free chocolate chip cookie ($4) and the banana nut bread with chocolate chips ($4). Other pastries (scones, muffins, tarts) ranged from $6-$10, which I thought was a bit high. The chocolate chip cookie was tasty and chewy and you couldn't tell that it's gluten-free. A bit sweeter than some other ones I've had. I liked it but it's not a chocolate chip cookie to go out of your way for. The banana bread was full of chocolate, which made it nice and gooey in certain areas on this hot day. Unfortunately, the parts without chocolate were a bit dry. Generally, the baked goods seemed a bit overpriced for the quality and taste, but maybe their savory items are better. I think I'd give it around a 3.5 for the food but bumped it up for the atmosphere. The area around is fun, with a hiking trail, goats, and a farm market on the weekends. Oh, and heads-up, there's a 3% credit card fee even though they're cashless.

Food. I had the skirt steak. It was ok. The amount of salsa accoutrement was too much, it was the only thing on the plate and matched the length of the steak. The salsa alongside the steak you could tell was not fresh, it had a dull grayish look to it, with no fresh vibrance to it. The potatoes on the side were ok, probably more suited alongside the steak. Overall I'd say, if the middle of the Shepards Pie was cold that tells me it's not fresh made to order, and the not so fresh salsa, they just need to tighten up. I think it's very close to a top notch restaurant in a sought after neighborhood.

It's a smallish place with lots of street parking nearby. It was a cold night when we were there. We thought we would have eight-to-ten people in our group, but ended up with seven people. They don't take reservations, but if you call an hour before you arrive with your largish party, they will hold a table for you. And they did. When you walk in the front door, you immediately walk to the right for the bar or dining room seating to the left. They set our table up across from the door. Every time someone went in our out, we had a cold blast of air hit us and that was a bit unnerving. You just couldn't get warm. There was a wall behind us, but apparently another dining section on the other side, we should have sat there, it would have been more comfortable. Our party was debating about getting an appetizer as we saw someone else get the wings which were big and juicy looking. They couldn't make up their mind, so I got their soup of the day: cream of chicken soup. It was pretty good and much needed on a cold nice, but it was just okay and I can pass on it next time. The soup was warm, almost room temperature, so they'll have to heat it up next time. I ended up getting their 8oz Lantern burger. They have a junior option at 6oz and a Tiffany at 10oz. The middle was fine. I got it medium rare with American cheese, lettuce, pickles, and mustard and a side of tots. They have a lot of options and the server recommended the tots. They were good, but no better than anywhere else. The burger was juicy and good, but the meat is not seasoned. Though if it is, I couldn't taste it. However, the bun held up really well despite how juicy the burger was and the burger was cooked to perfection. Others in our party thought the burgers were just okay. Over all, we had an average score of 4.00/5.00. The burgers were good, but I bet there are better items on the menu which boasts the best burgers in town. Not sure about that, but decent enough.

This was unfortunately frustrating and took away some from our enjoyment of the meal. The food was hit or miss! While the pork belly, market fish, and fries were fantastic, the burger was terribly under-seasoned/over-grilled, the shrimp was a bit fishy and chewy, and the giardiniera lacked any spice. We also found the vibes a bit strange. While the lights were low and the interior had an intimate date-night feel, there were also multiple TVs on playing football games which gave it a sports bar feel. I'd be curious to come again on a Thursday-Sunday evening to see how things might be different!
