My Tiramisu Latte (winter drink) was really good. Smooth, not bitter, & clearly made with care. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. The space feels cozy & welcoming, not rushed or loud, which I loved. Staff was friendly & easygoing, which always makes a difference. This feels like the kind of place you'd come back to again & again, whether you're grabbing a quick coffee or sitting for a bit. The drinks were amazing. I tried the Brown Butter Latte and the Maple iced latte. Others in my party had a mocha iced latte, dirty chai iced latte and a double shot of espresso with sparkling water on the side. We've been caffeinated for the day!! The service was great. The baristas were friendly and skilled at making delectable drinks. The atmosphere is cozy and quaint. There were various customers relaxing, visiting and others working on laptops. Random perfection found! We got to town and needed a coffee shop and found this gem. They had an awesome selection of baked goods and tons of flavored caffeinated warmth! Well, the Iced Caramel Latte I received was just alright. At least I am pretty sure that is what I ordered but what I got was a plain latte with just the smallest hints of caramel. T'was a sad day for my eager taste buds. Now mind you, I don't hate drinking a plain latte. I drink black coffee all the time. Even though I don't live in the area anymore, Hansa is a great local coffee shop. The staff is super friendly, the quality of food and drinks is fantastic, and it's in an ideal location. I stopped in here early morning on a weekday as well as midday on the weekend. Needless to say, early morning during the week it's much quieter. But on the weekends it's great to people watch and see who's passing through. It's a pretty comforting place to stop in at, especially when the sun is coming in through the windows in the morning--gives you the warm fuzzies. :) I genuinely hope this place sticks around for a while! read more

Cute little coffee shop located in the downtown Lake Bluff area. I've been to the other location but came across this one and it happened to be close to home. Service was pretty good. Right when you walk in, you're greeted with a smile. I ended up order the iced honey lavender latte with oat milk. It was perfect! Not too strong and not too sweet. I was debating between that or the ube latte. But might have to come back for that. Instead, I went for the ube shortbread cookie. What a cute coffee shop! To be fair they also serve food and wine but I came here when looking for a local coffee shop (not Starbucks) while visiting in the area. I am so happy to have stumbled across this place. My oatmilk latte was delicious tasting and pretty near perfect as far as what I look for in a latte: tasty, smooth and rich but not overly sweet or dense. Staff was friendly. We also got an Apple fritter which I asked for it to be warmed, but they apparently don't have a way to heat anything up. I did find that odd for a place that sells coffee and pastries. I have only been in this location once. It was obvious to me that they get quite a bit of foot traffic from all ages. Nice digs, good outdoor spaces out front, friendly laid back staff. The menu is cool, you have what you would expect to see, and then there is this entire custom drink menu that goes in all kinds of directions. What do I mean by that? One custom drink features Dr Peppper, another cayenne, you get the idea, have fun exploring! The munchies can be pretty amazing, I had a fat slab of zucchini lemon iced bread staring at me when I was checking out at the register that left with me and promptly disappeared between the wife and I. The only neg I can think of is that because of covid and social distancing, the traffic flow in the store can be quite challenging. The drink pick up, is right by the front door, which is also right by the condiments station, which is also right by a giant table folks can sit at, so you get the idea, everyone is standing around trying not to be in the way but everyone IS in the way. Some easy adjustments made in this area would go a long way to making a smoother, more convenient customer experience with less stress and anxiety for all. Very typical of most of the people whom I have encountered at Lake Bluff businesses: worthy and deserving of all five stars and more! The location is very conveniently located. Sometimes, the limited street parking in the area was already pretty full, and customers had to walk one to three blocks. Service is always so very quick and efficient, by friendly professionals behind the counter. I'm not a coffee drinker, and the counter staff were always so helpful and very patient as I pondered which tea or Chai to try, or to go for the usual hot chocolate. They have some very interesting sounding blends that I am looking forward to trying on future visits. There is also a refrigerated case with a pretty wide selection that I am considering trying exploring. Hansa seems to be quite popular with students and people working on business projects, and some just hanging out. They have a variety of tables with chairs or a sofa for the comfort of customers; outside tables and chairs; and of course carry out service is readily accommodated, too. It should be noted that their seating area is relatively small, and it can get pretty crowded in the late afternoon. I consider that testament to what a nice place it is and how popular it is. I've heard an expression that you can judge a place by their restrooms. If so, Hansa still gets an enthusiastic both thumbs up. Come here for a caffeine kick mixed with a sugar high... There are two coffee shops on the North Shore I frequent often, and this is one of them. Though I don't get to Hansa as often as I would like, lately we've been taking a drive up north just so we can grab a coffee and apple fritter from here. I've already mentioned in my earlier review how the apple fritter from Lee's donuts, is legendary. Not only will it give you a crazy sugar high, it's hearty, fluffy on the inside and crunchy. The end of the day fritters aren't as fresh, but they still completely rock my world (delivered fresh in the morning daily). As for the coffee, today I realized their brew might just be my favorite. The coffee blend they used for the vanilla latte was smooth with no bitter after taste. In fact, the finish was earthy and fruity. I'm finding my stomach can't tolerate strong coffee brews anymore. I'm updating my review after a few years, because Hansa still has it going on. Their team is friendly and the quality remains. Whatever their formula for running a great business, these guys have it down. 5 stars! Top Tip: Tons of tables for studying. read more
