The grilled steak au poivre and the roasted salmon were the star of the meal. The steak was tender and well seared. The gailan sauce highlighted the steak perfectly. I also really enjoyed the roasted salmon and coconut lobster broth. The coconut lobster broth complemented the salmon so well that I ended up drenching the salmon and my rice in the broth. Very well done pairing the flavors!

I have been here multiple times in the past for a lunch as well as private events that were all held upstairs. Every single time I come here the service is incredible and the food is a true stand out. Decided to come here on a Saturday night and made reservation reservations in advance to celebrate a birthday. All the dishes as usual were absolutely incredible. Special call out to Izzy for some fantastic service !!!! In general, I do wish that they would spread out some of the tables on the main floor as they are quite closing, and you can definitely hear your neighbor and their entire conversation, even without trying to eavesdrop. The construction in downtown Lake Forest continue so be prepared. However, the parking lots are still available and mostly free. I love coming here!!

We had a lovely birthday dinner at Le Colonial. We have dined here several times and each time we enjoy the food, the impeccable service and the show-stopping desserts. Our favorites: Ca Hoi Nuong (Roasted Salmon), Cha Gio (CRISPY SHRIMP & PORK ROLL), Pho Bo (HANOI BEEF NOODLE SOUP), Crispy Brussel Sprouts. For dessert, Le Citron (Yuzu Mousse, Poached Meyer Lemon, Mint, White Chocolate) and the rich and buttery apple tart tatin. Special occasion or casual lunch, I always look forward to a meal at Le Colonial.

Always delicious food, prompt service, and beautiful ambiance. We love coming for lunch and sitting at the bar. LC is one of my fave places in Lake County.

Quality Vietnamese. Outdoor seating is beautiful. Cha gio ( crispy shrimp and pork roll) is a must have. Other dishes are generally good. However, their pho noodle soup is worse than their Chicago branch,m - too salty.

I love that Le Colonial is in Lake Forest. Lychee martini and the smoked old fashioned are amazing. Appetizers Sesame beef ravioli- delicious and I love eating the cucumbers and lettuce Vegetables spring rolls Beef pho (large bowl) Mains Shrimp green curry (no bamboo shoots) -good and spicy Shaking beef - delicious and salad on the side is good too Sides Garlic noodles - they changes the noodles to a thinner one. I like the thicker noodles better Signature fried rice (no Vietnamese sausage) - delicious Overall, the people who work here are amazing. The maître d' from Atlanta, Paul is exceptional. Great food, great service. Only complaint is that it's hard to get a reservation here so book weeks in advance for the popular dinner times on the weekends.

They can't cook a bad dish here! Everything was mouthwatering good! Julia was the best server ever so kind and accommodating. She had a great sense of humor and made great recommendations. She was super attentive and really enhanced our experience. We truly thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered. We had Shrimp stir fry, Shaking beef, Red Snapper (one of the specials), Roast Duck (another one of the specials), coconut curry Shrimp, fall of the bone Pork Ribs (tenderness was out of this world), Vegetable rolls, Pork & chicken rolls, and lastly the Green papaya salad (the only salad I will eat and they did it right). The lychee martini was super tasty too The decor was beautiful and perfect for a date. I especially love the partial booth seating we had. I will keep going back and recommending this place. 10/10

As a returning customer, I can confidently say Le Colonial Lake Forest continues to be an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance strikes a perfect balance - warm, elegant and thoughtfully designed, making each of our visits feel relaxed and comfortable. The service is exceptional with just the right amount of attention to your needs without being intrusive. The cuisine is simply outstanding. There is a delicate harmony between French technique and Vietnamese flavors. The presentation is beyond beautiful. It is artistry. Please enjoy my photo of Le Citron which is a dessert. Yes...you can eat this "lemon" masterfully created with Yuzu Mousse, Poached Meyer Lemon, Mint and White Chocolate. Upon presentation, Le Citron is a delight to your eyes and ultimately to your palate! We look forward to our next visit!

    Chicken ravioli, tuna tartare

Had an amazing dinner here this week. Chicken ravioli and shrimp spring rolls were fantastic - and the beef filet entree was absolutely delicious! The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and service was top notch.

Our server was nice. We ordered a few drinks and I ordered a Manhattan which I always do and my Manhattan had bubbles in it that would not go away as in soap bubbles. It was not great and I've never had that experience before. I had the French onion soup. It was really good, and then everybody else ordered the steak frites It was not cooked the way they asked for it to be cooked. It wasn't as good as they thought it would be for the price and overall we were underwhelmed by the food drinks at this place because we thought it would be a lot better for what we paid for the back room is cool though highly recommend it maybe next time we come we'll order something else and have a different experience but the food that we ordered at a French restaurant wasn't what we were expecting.

The chicken paillard was very tasty but it seemed odd that the chicken and salad were both served on the same very hot plate. Luckily the salad didn't get warm enough to wilt the greens. For starters, we had a reservation which I would recommend. We were seated right away and while the place is large inside, I'm not sure what walk-in availability is like. The food: we really enjoyed the octopus, escargot, I had the Filet Mignon Au Poivre, and the banana/coconut entremet. The octopus was tender and flavorful; octopus cooked right (especially in smaller pieces) is hard to find so I was impressed. The escargot was nice and buttery/garlicky, and piping hot. I LOVED my Filet with the green peppercorn cream sauce! It was delicious and my husband was surprised I ate so much of it. It was cooked exactly as I asked, the meat had good flavor, and the sauce was delicious and well balanced + the right consistency. Lastly, the banana and coconut dessert was a pleasant surprise. The banana flavor was fresh (not artificial) and had the right balance of coconut. It was creamy, not too sweet, and had the right balance of textures with the outer coating and the crumble underneath - if you like banana or coconut at all I'd say it's a must order! The creme brulee was just okay. My issue was the service - the table next to ours LIT ON FIRE because a menu was over the top of a candle. After burning half the menu and the fire was getting larger, our partners ran over and put it out with their napkins. They yelled and there was NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT from the staff at all - at least 2 staff saw and one waiters eyes got big for a minute and she turned away. Not even a thank you from anyone to our partners for putting it out, and they had to ask for new napkins because theirs had black char on them. We were in the middle of enjoying our appetizers and my friend was just digging into her French onion soup from our first round and the staff kept trying to take our plates away. My friend had to tell them 3 times to please leave the soup at the table, and overall made us feel very rushed. We weren't taking a long time to eat at all so felt very weird? When the entrees were dropped on the table, my friend got a steak and they kept trying to give her a butter knife. It took multiple attempts to get the correct knife. Then once we were done eating it took a while to get our plates and old glasses cleared away. Overall service timing was off and their aggressiveness in the beginning of trying to take our plates away + the lack of response to A FIRE in the restaurant was pretty alarming. While I enjoyed the food there, the service was pretty bad and I feel unsafe with the lack of response to a fire in the restaurant so I don't think we'll return.

True, since it has grown, some of the personal touches have waned, but the food & drinks are still amazing. We shared the following: 1) Escargots - These snails were extremely tender, buttery, and garlicky. There were plenty of baguette to dip the sauce in. There were plenty of beef fat fries to go with it. 3) Moules - These PEI mussels were also extremely buttery and garlicky. It also came with a generous loaf of baguette to soak in the flavorful mussel juices. We would love to revisit and try the steak tartare and happy hour specials.
