Wow. Every so often you make a (semi-)spontaneous decision where to eat, and it ends up exceeding your expectations in every way! We came to Longitud315 on a Wednesday evening before catching the Metra down to Ravinia. We were the apparently the first customers of the day. The lone server, who was also doubling as bartender, said we could sit anywhere we wanted. We ordered several small plates plus dessert. Their chimichurri is some of the best I've ever tasted--great for dipping plantain chips as well as empanadas. Arepas, drunken mushrooms, and Chupil de Camerones were all excellent. The only slight disappointment was the empanadas. We tried all 4 they were offering that night. Some were good but a couple tasted like they had been reheated. A couple cocktails rounded out our meal, no complaints there. Service was excellent. It was starting to get busy when we left but the lone server never missed a beat. Prices were reasonable in our opinion. We left full and happy and are already planning a return visit. read more

The good, the empanadas (Argentinian and Colombian)...tasted the salmon with rice and asparagus and it was good, and had the churrascos which was a small portion of skirt steak, thinly slighted grill chicken and Brazilian sausage with black bean and rice and sliced fried plantain. Nothing wrong with the food, have had better but it was good. Service was slow and the place was really loud. Came with friends and could not hold a conversation because with other tables filled it was so loud. Parking was hard to find, ended up parking four or five blocks away. Huge portions and absolutely delicious. My friend and I split everything. We ordered the fish ceviche, Argentinian montaditos, and the salmon. The salmon was hands down one of the best pieces of salmon I've ever eaten--perfectly cooked and paired with coconut rice that complemented it beautifully. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful, and there was more than enough food for sharing. A wonderful meal from start to finish, and we'll definitely be back. read more

Visiting from Arizona and always willing to try something new. A friend's daughter recommended this, and what a great place, one of my all time restaurant experiences. We were four and decided that two Smalls and two Mains would be a fine amount and it was. If you as a group are big eaters, maybe an extra small, but use this as a guide. The Smalls were the mussels (about a dozen) with such an incredible and hard to describe, taste. The other small was the NAPOLEON BUENOS AIRES, also unusual and special. For the Larges, we shared the SALMON A LA BRAZILEIRA and VENEZUELAN CARBONADA (no meat eaters here). Also a bit difficult to describe, but take my word for it, very special. As we were headed to an event with desserts, we didn't try any here (and also no one was drinking tonight). Would love to come back and try if I'm in Chicagoland again. Just go! read more

Not much to say about the outside, their service was great and the waiter checked on us frequently We had great cocktails (smoked Rita- he made it less sweet - very good!!) and shared several appetizers. Great service, tasty food, a bit expensive, but overall a good experience. Their empanadas and arepas are excellent. I ordered their skirt steak and it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My wife ordered their skirt steak Peruvian tenderloin and it was more life a stew and was overcooked snd a bit flavorless to her. Their plantains are awesome, hot, tender and sweet. I would go back although the prices are high an the portions are not huge but I am a big eater. read more

Our first time here through a recommendation. Small and quaint. We only had small plates. Mushrooms, empanadas, green beans and shrimp. All very flavorful and tasty. The room temperature was very cold and that didn't sit well with the Mrs. Overall it was enjoyable and would like to go back and try the meats. Lots of options in Highwood so important to make a lasting first impression. Btw service was also good read more

I recently had dinner here with 12 people so obviously they added gratuity. And automatic 22% gratuity is a little bit hefty in my opinion now for the zinger, our dinner took one hour and 45 minutes to get and that includes my simple salad with two empanadas de apologized, and as a nice gesture, they gave us some free plantain chips, gee whiz! ordering at 7:15 and then waiting till 9 o'clock for your food and then paying 22% gratuity.. se i f ing kidding. this reminds me of my last visit with my wife in which I paid $30 for octopus and it was only one tentacle. Are you kidding me? then proceeded to ask for some complementary bread with my octopus, and they said no problem. The bill then arrives with a six dollar charge per breath. I now live within a mile of this restaurant. It will never go back there unless someone else is buying. I would give it zero stars if I could. read more

The food is wonderful. Some of the best most flavorful steak anywhere. Always cooked to perfection unlike the pricey steakhouses which are hit or miss in my experience. The only thing is I noticed they significantly raised prices at some point in last year or two. I know there is inflationary pressure but the prices almost doubled. Food: food was very yummy- very few vegetarian options but still glad they had them on the menu. They served plantain chips with green garlic sauce as complimentary and it was yummy. Went for a late lunch last Sunday. My friend thinks 3 pm is lunch time. I disagree. I was starving so we ordered way too much food. Lol. I haven't been to Longitud for a few years. Tried to order once during the shut down, but they stopped taking orders for the night. Started with a cocktail. We both ordered the eleganza. Since I'm not much of a drinker, we didn't opt for a pitcher. It's like a sangria. It was tasty and boozy. Since I'm a lightweight, I only drank 1/2 of mine. Ha. The house plantain chips were so good. Crispy and not greasy. The sauce/salsa was also sooo good. I would buy a gallon of that! We ordered one of each of the arepas and empanadas. The arepas are tiny. Was not expecting that. But were tasty. The empanadas were a mixed bag. I preferred the Brazilian and my friend preferred the Colombian. The others I would not order again. Since my friend was craving octopus, we had to get the pulpo. It was well seasoned and nicely charred, but I thought it was over-cooked. My friend found it fine. By the time our steak dish came around, we were stuffed, but plowed through. The steak was nicely cooked. My friend thought it was salty, but I thought it was seasoned the way South American's season their meat so it didn't bother me. If you eat it with the potato, it was just right. We sat outside on the patio. It was a beautiful day. I will say the ambiance was ruined by the loud music from the restaurant next door. Service was great! I find the prices a bit high for what you get. I feel that's consistent with most of the restaurants in Highwood. read more

This is my 2nd time visiting Longitud315. I'm still a fan. The first time was for the full dinner experience on the upstairs patio. This visit, my friend and I were seated in the front sidewalk patio area in the early afternoon. Expect the sun to be hitting you directly. It was a still a cool after noon in May so the sun was welcomed. We came here for a mojito ($17) each and appetizers. The mojito was made with lots of limes and fresh mint. It was well-balanced and extra refreshing. We ordered the empanadas assortment because we couldn't decide on which. They were all delicious. I honestly could not remember which empanada was which. They were all good though. They each had their own unique fillings with chicken or vegetable. Ok, I'd come back here for the fries alone. I am french fry eating machine. These were the perfect crunch texture. I would recommend their appetizers and sides as perfect snacks with cocktails. read more

Excellent drinks, the service is impeccable, friendly, and knowledgeable about everything! Beers from Argentina, Mexico, Pilsner urqell, and even grapa for after your desert...which even if your full, and you will be full. We tried the chef's favorite skirt steak, empanadas, the drunken mushrooms, Palomas, and for the love of all that is holy, Get the deserts. ***pro tip** Yes you have take home food cause you want to eat everything & over ordered...it will be Great tomorrow and the next day.... It's like a meal plan. But when desert comes have a digestif and eat the ice cream parts... take the rest home. We did this with the freshly made donut raspberries ice cream goodness. Yummy food, friendly service, a great, reasonable wine selection - doesn't get much better! This is a great place to come to get a variety of South American flavors. As it was just 2 of us, we chose to split 2 shared plates - one of each empanada (there are 5, each highlighting a different country's tradition) and green beans. This was more than enough food. I've come here several times - but the last experience was really special. We got there at about 8:15 and sat at the bar to make it easier for them to close up @ 9. We started talking to Chef Tony and learned about his incredible journey through South America, trying local dishes from hundreds of areas over several years. He took what he learned and brought a special flair to even the simplest if dishes, like empanadas. This is hands down the best restaurant in Highwood/Highland Park and that is reflected in the prices. But good lord is the food next level. The lamb chops are on a different plane of existence - they're almost too good to eat. I just wanted to put them in a museum so future generations can enjoy looking at it. Chef Tony also brought out some of his special Mezcal that he makes himself. It was a real treat. If you come on a busy night make sure you have a reservation because this place gets absolutely packed on the weekends. read more

It's perhaps the most mild so if you are tasting every one, start here. PERUVIAN - CHEESE, ONION & PLUM TOMATO. The tomatoes are chunky! But none of the others had 'bulk' so that was unusual. A friend suggested this place and it did not disappoint. Cozy place..maybe a bit too cozy that you can actually hear the next tables conversation...but the food and service were par excellent! We did s family style eating so we got to try a lot of different dishes and it worked out really well. My favorites were - lamb chops, drunken mushrooms and the complimentary plantain chips and dip (brought some home ). Our server was sweet, attentive and patient with our big group - thank you! The place was loud, so we fit right in! Downsides were the parking, the little too coziness and the cheese dish we ordered was a little burnt at the bottom...oh well...I'd still go back for sure! read more

We had been planning to have dinner here for quite some time. When we finally made it, Longitud315 surpassed our expectations. Nice restaurant in Highwood along with others but this has a bit of an unexpected twist. We started with the drunken mushrooms which were sauteed nicely swimming in wine. The ceviche was offered as shrimp or fish cevishe but we opted for a mixture and there was no problem combining them. The shrimp and fish ceviche was fresh and tasted like it just came out of the ocean. The shocker was dessert. We wanted a little something sweet, but were simply not prepared for the delicious homemade vanilla and chocolate gelato - smooth as silk, freshly flavored and simply divine. It was heavenly and put the flan in second place. What a pleasant surprise of an ending. Just decadent and fabulous. I shall return. read more

Let us get this out of the way up front: the prices are shocking. Now, the food is meat-centric, so that does factor in, but the Drunken Mushroom small plate (absolutely delicious, BTW) was $20. Now, how was the food? Interesting, sometimes great, sometimes not. Definitely South American food done well. I had the "signature dish" which was skirt steak, pork sausage, and grilled chicken. The steak was very good. The sausage was a bit spicy, but not too much; also very good. My daughter and I had different experiences of the chicken. Mine was overcooked, her's was perfect. The atmosphere is casual, but I found it too loud for a place this pricey. Latin music in the background. Not my favorite. I cannot say I am a fan. If you like South American food, it is a good choice, but bring your wallet. read more

I am so impressed! My husband and I decided to do an impromptu date night last week and I scrambled to find some options for dinner. I gave my husband 5 options for Italian because he said he wanted pasta, but just threw this restaurant into the mix to be random. He chose Longitud315 though they do not have pasta and I'm so glad he did. The parking in front of the restaurant is tough if you come before 7PM because it's only 30 min or 1 hour parking. When we walked through the door I was a little confused because there were stairs going upstairs to the left and a curtain blocking another pathway. My husband suggested we see what's past the curtain, and it was indeed the restaurant. We were seated soon after being greeted and we were given (what I think is) fried plantains with chimichurri. SO GOOD. I could not stop eating them. For appetizers my husband and I ordered one of each type of empanada to split. While they were delicious, it started to taste too bread-y and greasy after a while. I really liked the chicken one but did not like the ground beef one. We also ordered Argentinian Montaditos which were FLAWLESS. I would eat those EVERY DAY if I could. For entrees, I ordered the Churrascos while my husband ordered Moro a la Sao Paulo. My dish was good and very filling but I did not like the skirt steak on this dish as much as the skirt steak on my husband's dish. My husband's dish was so good, I just kept stealing his food. I really believe this restaurant should be booked and packed every moment because of how good the food is. I just wish their menu had some more options. Food was good and service was ok. However, we were sat upstairs at a tiny table pushed back in a corner that didn't event look like a regular table. It looked like they dragged it in from outside and draped a tablecloth over it. We were given mason jars for water glasses when every other table had nice, large "normal" water glasses. The cocktails are ridiculously overpriced $18 and up. The overall pricing on the menu doesn't make a lot of sense either - 1 empanada is $4.95 but 4 is $20.95. So there's that. To add shrimp to their version of risotto was an extra $20. That's insane. A can of diet coke was $4.11. Yes, for A CAN. And then we got the bill and there's a cash price and a credit price. Super, super tacky. We had high hopes but leave disappointed and will not be back. read more
