    Great Cabernet

Really enjoyed our dinner. Everyone had something different and we shared appetizers. All very tasty. It was nice to see Pazzo di Vino Cabernet on the menu too!

The food we had for dinner was amazing. I've only ever have been there for two concerts which the kitchen staff had provided appetizers which were so yummy. We finally went back for dinner with friends of ours who raves about this place. I will say it was a HOT day in Chicago and I moved our reservations inside. The restaurant was a little warm inside. The host was absolutely amazing and came over to say hello to our friends who are regulars. One of the nice things about this place is that the menu is inspired by the artwork on display which is on rotation. So depending on where the photos are from, it will inspire/influence the chefs menu for that specific time period. That night I had the fish tacos which were so good. And the deviled eggs as an appetizer should not be overlooked. Up until just recently this place was BYOB with a corkage fee I believe and just recently got their liquor license that week we were there. So I would definitely call ahead to find out. Reservations are recommended as this is a small place. But if u can get over there when the weather turns cooler it has a sweet al fresco patio in the back! Service that night was a little slow. But overall I would still recommend this place highly.

The Gallery is a small art gallery that has a handful of tables, let's you bring your own alcoholic beverages, serves food that is so beautiful and delicious, and has friendly, efficient service. It's surprising you can even get a table here. The only thing I can think of is that it is a bit out of the way and has not yet been fully discovered. If you have the opportunity, I suggest trying this place. We had the steamed pork buns and poke appetizers. Both were attractively presented and delicious. The poses buns were softly steamed and had just a bit of spices kimchee and tender pork. The poke was abundant with fresh tuna, sesame seeds, avocado, and could have been a meal on its own. We had the tostadas and the salmon as entrees. The tostadas were crunchy with perfectly prepared whitefish and a spicy sauce. The serving size of 3 tostadas was significant, we brought one home. The salmon was recommended by the server and she was right. This dish was outstanding. The salmon was perfectly steamed and served with a saffron & carrot purée that was phenomenal. This dish was much better than it had any right to be and went very well with the bottle of Riesling that we brought. We finished with the espresso cheesecake, also lovely and beautifully presented. It had a good coffee flavor but was not obnoxious- you could taste that it was a cheesecake. They replace the menu every 6 to 8 weeks, along with the artwork exhibited and, we were told, tie menu to artwork. The current menu is titled curiouser and curiouser. I am looking forward to the next iteration of the chef's creativity. If tonight's meal is any indicator, it will be interesting an delightful. I definitely recommend a visit to The Gallery if you are in Lake Forest.

    The short ribs

We ate here for the first time tonight after a friend's art show opening and it was wonderful. The staff was extremely attentive and welcoming. We ordered the foie gras and coconut shrimp starters and both were presented beautifully and delicious . Our entrees included with white fish tostadas, the braised short ribs, the filet mignon with frites and the Scottish salmon. All the food was expertly prepared and very flavorful - nothing was left on any of the plates! A lovely addition to the meal was the striking art hung in the dining room which was the inspiration for this iteration of the menu. Please note this is a BYOB establishment, but they opened and decanted our wine excellently. All in all a magical evening and we will definitely be back again soon.

Why drive to Chicago when you can enjoy awesome cuisine on the North Shore. This Lake Forest restaurant & art gallery has a seasonal menu which is pared with an artists art collection. The restaurant is a "BYOB", which works great. I highly recommend the following starters; oysters, devil eggs, tuna poke and the asparagus casserole. For entries; I highly recommend the braised beef or salmon. There's seating inside and out. We opened a bottle of champagne and sat at the fire pit before we dined. Enjoy! Best regards, Brett Moore Lake Forest

The food was incredible and the server was sweet as could be. She went out of her way to make us iced tea even though they don't technically serve it. We came back at night for a local art showing and it was so fun! The art was all incredible and so nice being able to view it. Would definitely recommend to anyone. And it's BYOB!!

The grilled garlic chicken and asparagus was pretty good and the server was great! I would definitely go back if I had a colleague staying at the hotel; however, wouldn't seek out the Oaken otherwise for a night out. The ambiance is lively, with background music and the bar offered a variety of cocktail and wine options.

We were quickly seated with a reservation and the tables were lovely - gorgeous wedgewood china (even for the kids!). Greeted with prosecco for adults and sparkling juice for the kids. Service was really friendly and helpful with tea selections. There are about 4 options for children if they want tea as well. Food was good and there was a tower for the kids (their the older child at our table wanted the adult sandwiches...). Plenty of sandwiches and sweets. The scone actually was the standout though - orange cranberry - very soft and delicious. Customary lemon curd, jelly and cream - delicious. All in all, this was a nice, fancy time for tea but there were some negatives namely: no one ever asked if we wanted more drinks (I would have had a glass of champagne but no one returned or asked - I could have flagged someone down but was surprised at this level of hotel that service wasn't so helpful). We also felt rushed - I would have stayed longer to enjoy but get they were cleaning up our table quickly. Instead, we brought some of the treats to go. While the staff was friendly, they weren't really there a lot - I saw some tables get asked if they wanted more sandwiches - but we did not... and it wasn't because we had kids at the table because I'd say at the time we went, more than 50% of the tables had kids with them. We did get a nice little to go gift of tea, chocolate and a tea strainer. I'm conflicted upon returning just due to feeling rushed.... I always go for tea once a year at least and I've been to every fancy hotel in the city (and other restaurants) for tea and multiple hotels in Europe (Ireland, England) and this was the most European feeling but really felt less relaxed even though the surroundings were gorgeous.

It made the experience feel impersonal from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was very dark and gothic, which may appeal to some people, but it didn't feel warm or inviting to us. Between the unwelcoming first impression and the overall vibe, it's just not a place I would choose to visit again. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be back.

We shared the Warm Hand Made Bread Service (creme fraiche goats butter, roasted pecan hummus and matcha sesame butter) and Crispy Mushrooms (dusted with matcha, sesame togarashi black garlic aioli) from the Small or Snacky section. I had the Inovasi burger (1/3 lb CDK Farms beef) and my companions had the Grilled Ocean Raised Salmon. My burger had a good flavor but they cooked it well done instead of medium. Fries were good. Our server Chad explained the menu in detail, offered recommendations, and took great pride in the restaurant. Everything is made from scratch, and they have a beautiful open kitchen. They sous vide it so it's super tender, then crisp it for that little crunch you want in an octopus appetizer. The romesco and chorizo combo had us scraping the plate clean. For dinner, my husband had the hanger steak served with a large bone filled with bone marrow, along with brioche, truffle butter, and the Aligot and Brussels sprouts for sides. We came for an evening with friends and decided to take advantage of the Sunday "per la famiglia…read more(serves four)" special when we saw the menu. What looked like a generous offer of comfort food at a reasonable price, at a lovely Italian restaurant, was actually a gimmick worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge. Dinner started with a tasty chopped salad that would have been a reasonable entree for one or enough to share as an appetizer for two. It was a large spoonful each for four. The four garlic knots that accompanied the salad were each about 2x2x2 inches, and when we asked for a refill of both the salad and bread we were told "that's all you get." The spaghetti came with 2 meatballs in a portion size that looked like it was enough for an entree for only 1 person. We waited a moment and when no more came realized we were screwed. Later, seeing our disappointment, the waiter was kind enough to secretly get 2 more meatballs out of the kitchen for us to pretend there were portions for each person at the table. Had they been serving Italian tapas, maybe we could have pretended it was a fair approach. The 16 inch cheese pizza was good but nothing special and the tiramisu provided 4 small pieces a little larger than the garlic knots mentioned earlier when cut into squares. I don't know what kind of "famiglia" Salvatore "Sal" Lo Cascio, the culinary director at Ballyhoo Hospitality, or Ryan O'Donnell, the CEO, have; but they probably don't each very much. Perhaps they expect the famiglia of their guests to be a single parent with young children or a group of little persons. In short, the food tasted good, the dining room was lovely, the service was outstanding, and the portions and prices were a complete rip-off to the point that the place should be put out of business. With two iced teas, a glass of house wine, tax and a generous tip the bill came to well over $100 and this morning when checking the receipt for this review I found out that they charged us for the extra meatballs. Not very nice!
