Simply amazing! Wendy and I knew we were in for a fun dinner when the hostess (Michelle) said, "toodleloo" when we called to make our reservation. When we were greeted by her at the door, things only got better. She's kind, fun, and welcoming. What's not to like?!? Our waiter, Phil, provided background into the concept and how the art/artist's style influenceS the chef's menu. This show is called "Kitsch'n" (sp?) as it's based on kitschy Art. So the menu has offerings with interesting combinations (we had cheeseeburger egg rolls, for example). Wendy has an incredible fish entree and I had what might possibly be the best steak entree I've ever had. The filet medallions were perfectly cooked to medium rare, but it was the combination of flavors and textures (truffle butter, glazed crispy brussel sprouts, super thin extra crispy potatoes, and mashed potatoes) that made It absolutely incredible! The food we had for dinner was amazing. I've only ever have been there for two concerts which the kitchen staff had provided appetizers which were so yummy. We finally went back for dinner with friends of ours who raves about this place. I will say it was a HOT day in Chicago and I moved our reservations inside. The restaurant was a little warm inside. The host was absolutely amazing and came over to say hello to our friends who are regulars. One of the nice things about this place is that the menu is inspired by the artwork on display which is on rotation. So depending on where the photos are from, it will inspire/influence the chefs menu for that specific time period. That night I had the fish tacos which were so good. And the deviled eggs as an appetizer should not be overlooked. Up until just recently this place was BYOB with a corkage fee I believe and just recently got their liquor license that week we were there. So I would definitely call ahead to find out. Reservations are recommended as this is a small place. But if u can get over there when the weather turns cooler it has a sweet al fresco patio in the back! Service that night was a little slow. But overall I would still recommend this place highly. read more

The Gallery is a small art gallery that has a handful of tables, let's you bring your own alcoholic beverages, serves food that is so beautiful and delicious, and has friendly, efficient service. It's surprising you can even get a table here. The only thing I can think of is that it is a bit out of the way and has not yet been fully discovered. If you have the opportunity, I suggest trying this place. We had the steamed pork buns and poke appetizers. Both were attractively presented and delicious. The poses buns were softly steamed and had just a bit of spices kimchee and tender pork. The poke was abundant with fresh tuna, sesame seeds, avocado, and could have been a meal on its own. We had the tostadas and the salmon as entrees. The tostadas were crunchy with perfectly prepared whitefish and a spicy sauce. The serving size of 3 tostadas was significant, we brought one home. The salmon was recommended by the server and she was right. This dish was outstanding. The salmon was perfectly steamed and served with a saffron & carrot purée that was phenomenal. This dish was much better than it had any right to be and went very well with the bottle of Riesling that we brought. We finished with the espresso cheesecake, also lovely and beautifully presented. It had a good coffee flavor but was not obnoxious- you could taste that it was a cheesecake. They replace the menu every 6 to 8 weeks, along with the artwork exhibited and, we were told, tie menu to artwork. The current menu is titled curiouser and curiouser. I am looking forward to the next iteration of the chef's creativity. If tonight's meal is any indicator, it will be interesting an delightful. I definitely recommend a visit to The Gallery if you are in Lake Forest. read more

Absolutely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, and certainly THE BEST on the far North Shore of Chicago. Chef Dominic Zumpano is a total master of cuisine, and creates a new menu with each amazing art exhibition there. He is so skilled and everything comes out perfectly done. My family's favorites are the mixed green salad, the scottish salmon, the braised beef, the black garlic deviled eggs, and ANY of the desserts!!! The wines are lovely, too! I could not recommend a place higher. They are kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and simply delightful. YOU MUST GO!!! read more

We had never been to this restaurant before. We discovered it after reading an article in a local publication. The food and service were wonderful. My husband and I almost share a birthday. I'm June 5 and his is June 11. We always try to do something interesting to celebrate. The Gallery is both an art gallery and a restaurant with artfully prepared food. Apparently the menu changes monthly with the artwork as the chef's inspiration. Everything was delicious and unique. I definitely recommend it. read more

We ate here for the first time tonight after a friend's art show opening and it was wonderful. The staff was extremely attentive and welcoming. We ordered the foie gras and coconut shrimp starters and both were presented beautifully and delicious . Our entrees included with white fish tostadas, the braised short ribs, the filet mignon with frites and the Scottish salmon. All the food was expertly prepared and very flavorful - nothing was left on any of the plates! A lovely addition to the meal was the striking art hung in the dining room which was the inspiration for this iteration of the menu. Please note this is a BYOB establishment, but they opened and decanted our wine excellently. All in all a magical evening and we will definitely be back again soon. read more

Why drive to Chicago when you can enjoy awesome cuisine on the North Shore. This Lake Forest restaurant & art gallery has a seasonal menu which is pared with an artists art collection. The restaurant is a "BYOB", which works great. I highly recommend the following starters; oysters, devil eggs, tuna poke and the asparagus casserole. For entries; I highly recommend the braised beef or salmon. There's seating inside and out. We opened a bottle of champagne and sat at the fire pit before we dined. Enjoy! The food was incredible and the server was sweet as could be. She went out of her way to make us iced tea even though they don't technically serve it. I've been meaning to write a review for my favorite restaurant in Lake Forest, but kept forgetting... I live right around the corner from this place & from the very beginning when it opened (about 3 yrs ago..?) it became our families' favorite! We celebrate our Birthdays here or bring guests & everyone always enjoys it very much. The quality of the food is outstanding & the taste is pure "yumminess". Many dishes remain on the menu, & are Favorites, but also new ones being added with each Art Show. Our favorites: My daughter raves about the deviled eggs, my son loves the fish tacos & I pretty much love everything on the menu. I particularly loved the ramen last winter. The coconut shrimp was also yummy & the braised short ribs are always delicious. They have wonderful desserts which are both "home style" & unique. The appetizers are outstanding: We tend to order 4-5 & a couple of entrees & we eat family style, sharing it all. We also byob & bring our own special wines, which makes the evening extra special & affordable. My teenage kids also like looking at all the art. Note: best to email or call for reservations, they're small & have unique days open & hours. Make this place your favorite "neighborhood spot"! read more

The Gallery combines an art gallery and a restaurant. It recently reopened in Lake Forest, after they closed their Chicago location. I called ahead and reserved a table for six people. We were seated in a private room which was very cozy and intimate. We had a nice and knowledgeable waitress. She was able to answer all of our questions and accommodate everyone in our party. The menu is small, but interesting. It also changes a few times per year. The presentation of the food is a work of art in itself. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ordered scallops, chicken, fish fry and braised beef, as well as, a chicken parmesan appetizer and a beet salad. I have to say that the scallops were my favorite. They have BYOB with a $5.00 corkage fee. The prices were reasonable though entries and appetizers are pretty small. Overall, I enjoyed the food and atmosphere and plan to come back, when they change the menu, so I could try different things. read more

I just had the short rib with horseradish, parsnips, mushrooms and bacon, and it was perfection. The meat was so tender that I ate it with a fork. The way the components worked together could not have been better. The cheesecake with carmelized bananas was also superb. This restaurant is a unique find. It blends an art gallery with the restaurant. You eat among the art which is interesting and the fact that they support local artists is a big plus. The menu changes as the artists change. This is fast becoming my favorite place in Lake Forest. You will not be disappointed. read more

I helped organize a rehearsal dinner at the Gallery on April 25, 2019. Working with the Gallery was fantastic. They communicated with us on a timely basis and their customer service was perfect--a factor that is very important to me. The menu we selected was prepared and served at the highest standard in my opinion. I have to mention that not only was the braised beef and salmon beautifully plated, but the execution and taste exceeded my expectations. I especially loved their 'signature' salad. It's been quite some time since my eyes widened with delight after taking the​ first bite. It was wonderful. I think the Gallery is a top-notch restaurant. Five friends had dinner there last Saturday night. Gave us one of the private rooms, which was great because public dining rooms were very noisy and loud. We ordered a couple of appetizers and had salmon, beef and Korean Short ribs. All fair at best, and small portions, which we knew. Byob $5 corkage. Waitresses were terrific. Had several desserts... best part of evening. Prices very reasonable $44 per person that included generous tip. Would we go back, probably not just because there are so many restaurants with excellent food on the North Shore. The fact this is an art gallery with rotating art was a unique experience. read more

First time here, the food was only ok nothing exceptional. Our group was somewhat disappointed that the waitstaff told us at 8:20 pm that the restaurant had closed at 8pm. Considering we had a 7pm reservation, I still can not understand why they would accept a reservation for 7pm if they need to chase you out the door. If we wanted a quick meal, I think we would have gone elsewhere. I was very disappointed about our experience since I have heard great things about the restaurant. A group of us went to The Gallery last evening at 5:pm. They have a very lovely, very private outdoor seating area behind the restaurant which was simply ideal! The BYOB factor is a great service, and I was very impressed that they decanted the red wine as well as provided a chiller for the white--nice touch. We had small plates that included the puffy taco, octopus, salad and garlic eggs. Salad is salad, but the other three were stellar. For our mains, we went from the fish tostado, to the lamb pasta and braised beef. All were great. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and the cookie. The cookie was a-maz-ing. My only downgrade for the entire event was the cheesecake. I'm still wondering if it was the temperature or---what. Just didn't click for me. That being said, it was very enjoyable, just not on par with every single other dish we enjoyed. If you are looking for a quiet, non-rushed very enjoyable evening, please give this a try. read more

We've been there twice in the past few months. This may be the best restaurant in Lake Forest. A small menu that changes every few months, the menu is imaginative and the food is superb. You need to bring your own wine and there is no corkage fee which is amazing. The prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent.
