I absolutely love Pomeroy!  I know I have said it many times.  This past Mother's Day we went to Pomeroy again.  It has become our go-to restaurant for celebrations.  I always consider Mother's Day the ultimate test for any restaurant, and Pomeroy passes with flying colors year after year! As expected, the restaurant was packed, both inside and in the beautiful courtyard. Families filled the dining room, with children of all ages at about 90% of the tables. The team at Pomeroy has been so consistent and professional, that all of our dishes were delivered at a perfect and steady pace, and qualities remained high. Although we got a different server each time we went, they were all very welcoming, friendly, and attentive.  This time, Carlisle did such a wonderful job even though she was super busy, and she wished me a happy Mother's Day several times to make sure that my day was special.  I must mention that the friendly hostess greeted me with well wishes too, and said happy Mother's day again when we left. We had noticed that they had replaced the couch in front of the courtyard fireplace with more tables.  Who could blame them when they had so many patrons to seat.  However, the courtyard still looked gorgeous. Now on to the food and drinks.  I had a mocktail Bleu 75 ($13) that's my favorite, my husband had a glass of chardonnay ($17), our daughter had a Le Spritz Strawberry ($16).  We shared an order of Sea Scallops ($23) and a Warm Tomato Tarte ($19).  I had my go-to dish which was the Mediterranean Sea Bass ($38), I loved the seared skin that was crispy on the edges. Husband and Daughter each ordered a Spring Halibut ($92 for 2) from the Mother's Day menu.  We ordered 2 Strawberry Crème Brulee ($28 for 2), and I shared 1 with my husband.  I also had a cappuccino ($6). The check came up to $283.05 before tips (they add a 3% surcharge to each guest check, which may be removed upon request, we didn't).  As always, our dinner was very enjoyable and it's worth the money.  I had a very happy Mother's Day dinner, and it ended a wonderful weekend with high notes!  We will keep returning! read more

Still a very nice Bistro ambiance, but they lost a star on this visit. We made reservations while on our way to the Chicago Botanical Garden ... close by and very handy. When we got to Pomeroy for dinner, we were seated in the farthest back room, one that was open-air ... the staff never asked us, they just put us there. The room was nice as was the weather, but the open-air room had gnats all over the place. Now we realize that gnats or fruit flies oftentimes come with wine servings ... and the Pomeroy has a bunch of nice wines, but the gnats flying around your face all through dinner was not pleasant. We ordered drinks to start, and found it hit-or-miss. The Watermelon Margarita seemed tempting, so we tried one. It came with a big smear of Tajin powder on the rim, and was not appealing. Once again, we thought they should mention this kind of thing before it appears. They replaced the drink, but it kept us off on the wrong foot. All in all, they still put our good food. Our complaint was the seating, the gnats, and the Tajin powder ... all they had to do was ask for our preferences and these could have been avoided. But alas, they drop to four stars. read more

We went for brunch just to try the place, no special occasion. The atmosphere in the main dining room was nice, the decor is chic but not over the top. The service was also very good, quick and attentive without being too frequent. The main issue was the food, which in my opinion was lacking. Each person in our group tried a different dish, and no one was particularly impressed. Would be open to returning if we heard of a significant improvement, but there are much better places out there. read more

This place was so good we were over an hour early got our 6:45 dinner reservation , but without missing a beat the Wonderful Hostesses allowed me to pick the table I liked the very most! We were one of the very first tables sat for dinner and we were the very last table out ! The TEA was perfect with a pot ! The cheese and pate' plates were super yummy and excellent display. The onion soup was very nice , but the salad was out of this world Perfect ! Not too much dressing but just right ! The steak, potatoes and green beans very nicely prepared . The steak had an excellent gravy . The strawberry Creme brûlée and Macaroons were awesome ! The coffee and wine were fabulous ! Our server Joselo and busboy and servers were Spectacular ! My Date and I are long time Chef's and had one of the best dinners for nearly 3 1/2 hours ! Alex the manager came over to ask how things went . I must say this was well worth every penny ! read more

Pomeroy brings a little of the Balthazar spirit to Winnetka, which feels especially satisfying in a suburb I still associate with a much quieter dining scene. The steak frites are excellent, the bar has real conviviality, and the terrace gives the place another layer of charm when the weather cooperates. Ballyhoo Hospitality has created something with polish, confidence, and genuine staying power on the North Shore. Très bien! read more

This was one of the BEST brunches we've been to since leaving the city! As you can tell from my food photos everything was so good I forgot to take photos. This restaurant has it all. Ambiance, outstanding service and food that's absolutely delicious. We went over the holidays and it was decorated so nicely it made us want to stay forever. My friend and I decided to try Pomeroy, and overall it was a memorable experience. It had been a long time since I'd had French food, and the quality really stood out. The mussels were excellent, full of flavor, and the garlic bread paired perfectly with the mussel sauce. Service was good overall. The staff member who cleared our table was attentive, checked in on us regularly, and kept our water glasses filled. From my perspective, our waitress wasn't the friendliest, but it didn't completely take away from the experience. The ambiance was a highlight, very clean, cozy, and welcoming as soon as you walk in. The hostess especially made us feel genuinely welcomed. If you're looking for great mussels, this is definitely the spot to try. PS: They offer valet parking, which is a nice bonus. read more

I went here with my husband and my friend and her boyfriend because we've wanted to go and it's gotten pretty good reviews so we wanted to try it out When we got there, we got to sit in the back room, which is very pretty had really good ambiance. Our server was nice. We ordered a few drinks and I ordered a Manhattan which I always do and my Manhattan had bubbles in it that would not go away as in soap bubbles. It was not great and I've never had that experience before. I had the French onion soup. It was really good, and then everybody else ordered the steak frites It was not cooked the way they asked for it to be cooked. It wasn't as good as they thought it would be for the price and overall we were underwhelmed by the food drinks at this place because we thought it would be a lot better for what we paid for the back room is cool though highly recommend it maybe next time we come we'll order something else and have a different experience but the food that we ordered at a French restaurant wasn't what we were expecting. read more

We had a lovely meal here last night. The tomato tart and beet salad apps were both very good. The cheese board was a standout as were the scallops. The fois gras was overall good but the pear financier was too thick and made everything too sweet. For entrees, the Steak Diane, Trofie au Pistou, Trout Almandine, and Steak Bordelaise were all great. For desserts, Crepes Suzette and profiteroles were the star, the red velvet cake was too sweet. Very nice looking place with a fantastic set of menus and some really good things to offer. Service when I went was very subpar, but the ambience, the food, seeing how much everyone else was enjoying themselves while there, that definitely made up for it. Food wise almost everything we had was fantastic, but their warm Vichyssoise was so outstanding everything else paled just a little bit in comparison. The crepes were great, as were the sides like the fries and the frizzy salad. The quiche I could have lived without but there's so many other tasty things on the menu you can probably avoid that one and still have a great time. read more

I was a little apprehensive about keeping our reservations for a special occasion after reading some of the reviews. We are both so happy we did. An absolutely perfect dining experience. Our server John P was skillful and pleasant. Additional wait staff was courteous and promptly removed plates/utensils/glassware no longer necessary. Friendly greeting from the hostess(es). Our courses were perfectly timed. French onion soup and Country pate were delicious. Halibut was a tad bit overcooked for my liking but still very good. Trout almandine with green beans and a side of the most delicious whipped potatoes was stellar. Capped off our meals with mango ice cream and strawberry creme brûlée. The entire staff made our special occasion very memorable and celebratory. Great choice on going to Pomeroy. We anxiously await our next visit. Beautiful interior btw. I had such a great experience for lunch at Pomeroy today. I took my mother-in-law for lunch for her birthday, and it was the perfect lunch spot. It was a beautiful day, and we were seated in the courtyard. Walking through the restaurant to get to the courtyard, I was impressed with the interior of the restaurant, with a beautiful bar and cozy, comfortable looking tables inside. There was also an outdoor sidewalk cafe in the front of the restaurant. We had excellent service and the most personable waiter Hugo, who gave us great recommendations. We both ordered the Colossal Shrimp Louie salad, which was the perfect size and so delicious. I swear we wanted to lick the bowl! We also shared pommes frites which were perfectly cooked and crispy and they were served with garlic aioli for dipping. We ended with the creme brûlée, recommended by Hugo, which was "on the house" for my mother-in-law's birthday. It was served with a sparkler on it. If you are looking for the perfect place to meet a friend for lunch have a perfect meal, and make you feel like you are seated in a French Café , this is your place. It's in such a picturesque neighborhood, you have the option of indoor or outdoor seating and parking is really easy. This is going to be in my restaurant rotation list for sure. read more

This is the third time I have been at this restaurant and although the food is good, I will not be returning. I was just there last night for Mother's Day dinner which we made the reservation four weeks in advance. It was 55° out, which is only important because when they went to seat us, they wanted to seat us outside!!! We said we would not sit outside and they did reseat us. It was so incredibly crowded in there I'm sure it was breaking some kind of fire code. People kept bumping into our table as it was in the corner between where they go downstairs for the food and the second bar in the back. The last straw was when my daughter left her credit card there and we called and they said they would have it ready for her. When she went back and it took 20 minutes to get her card back. I understand it's busy when it's Mother's Day but I saw many management working and should've been limiting the amount of people in there. The bar was certainly very overcrowded at 6:30 PM . For this price point I expect much smoother service. read more

First review where I wrote it, then changed it, then changed again. This was an overall neutral experience. The waiter was helpful, accommodating, and courteous. Seating looked inviting but was surprisingly uncomfortable. We didn't come for the seating. We came for food, and a drink. The drinks were the biggest disappointment. We are not wine people, so maybe we came to the wrong place. We like our hard liquor, which can be done creatively. Not here. Not bad, just nothing special. Presentation was good. Good size. Just nothing special that makes you want to order more. Underwhelming. The food was good. Didn't care for mussels. Lobster roll was awesome. The burger was good, but nothing memorable. I've had burgers which made me lose patience and I just had to dive in with both hands and byte hard into bacon and messy beef with spice and cheese that melt in your mouth. Not here. The steak was similar. Not bad, Just nothing special. This is probably a decent place. I can't (and don't want to) point to any specific faults. Just don't expect anything special. For these reasons, giving the benefit of the doubt and rounding up to 4 stars. However, I don't see many reasons to come back. Maybe to get a lobster roll, possibly to go. read more

The service and the atmosphere of this restaurant are immaculate. It's like walking into a bistro in Paris. That's why it pains me to give a less than stellar review. We had two big complaints - 1) The specialty cocktails were cloyingly sweet, the blood orange margarita was not finished, neither was the Manhattan. My Aperol spritz had too much aperol and not enough prosecco; 2) Two entrees missed the mark by a long shot. One person had the special Dover sole, which was $72 and the waiter really pushed it. It was wildly overcooked and underseasoned. Everyone at the table tasted it and the dish was not finished. For $72, it better be spectacular. The lobster rolls were not good, over cooked lobster, stale rolls. Two people at our table had them, neither one of them finished them. That tells you all you need to know about how the lobster roll was. My Scottish salmon was delicious albeit lukewarm. The trout was excellent as were the two steak dinners. I don't review restaurants until I've eaten there at least three times. This was the third time. There were issues with the food all three times. But I'll keep coming back because I love the atmosphere, and the appetizers cannot be beat. It's really hit or miss with some of the cocktails and the entrées. I would give the food 3 1/2 stars and the service and atmosphere 5+ stars so I guess I'll land at four reluctantly. read more

My family took me for my birthday. We made a reservation, in advance and they were so awesome when we walked in. They went out of their way to ask whose birthday it was, and wished me a happy birthday. They even had custom menus that said "Happy Birthday Finley". Our server was great, he always made sure our water was full even though the refill glass was on the table for us. He also brought out champagne, including non-alcoholic champagne for the kids and non drinkers. The food was outstanding. We got the seafood towers and they were incredible. I ordered the chicken and it was the most phenomenal chicken I have ever had. The seating was also incredible. We were in the patio area and the lamps and the vines set the mood very well. When we ordered dessert, our server took note of what I ordered, and stuck a sparkler in it for my birthday. What an amazing time. read more

They have daily specials as well as regular options you might expect from a French restaurant such as escargots, bouillabaisse, filet mignon, trout amandine, cheese plates, and pate. Somewhat casual atmosphere, best for business casual. Fancier than a family restaurant, but not super fancy. Has two bar areas (one very small), two areas of indoor seating, and two areas of outdoor seating. Phenomenal selection of wine. Along with some house cocktails. I'm so happy that we tried Pomeroy! We've been searching for a good French restaurants and nothing has lived up to my expectations until Pomeroy. Everything about this place was amazing! FOOD: We started with the French Onion Soup and the Escargot. Both appetizers were great. I like that the soup had a thicker broth and large slices of onions. My favorite was definitely the escargot. I've tried escargot at multiple restaurants and find them overly salty but at Pomeroy, it wasn't salty but super buttery and had so much flavor. For the main course, we ordered the bouillabaisse and the steak a là bordelaise. The bouillabaisse was good and had huge chunks of shrimp, lobster meat, mussels, and scallops. They did not skimp on the seafood! BUT the steak a la bordelaise was one of the best steaks I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection. It had a nice crust on the outside but super tender on the inside and the gravy was delicious. SERVICE: our server was super nice and he gave us great recommendations. He was the one that told us about the Steak a La bordelaise. He was very attentive and checked in every so often. AMBIANCE: the atmosphere was super cozy and romantic. Gets a great place for date night. Overall, we're really happy to find a French restaurant that lives up to our expectations. We loved the food there and will definitely be back soon. read more

We went with a small group for my wife's birthday, and Pomeroy made it very special. The hostess treated us at checkin with a heartfelt "Happy Birthday", the menus were all customized with Happy Birthday printed on them, and we got a complimentary dessert with a sparkler to cap off the meal. If there were more stars, I would select them. I have dined here before but never for dinner. Service was still amazing. Our waitress, Zoe, was wonderful. I had the Halibut, which was the Saturday special. If it ever appears on the menu again, just order it. There was this cold crab soup that my friends ordered. It was rich and tasty. Just dined here for the 2nd time!! So glad I returned! Their awesome hostess, Rosie, even remembered me from my first visit last November!! She sat me in the front dining area, which was so nice, airy and cozy--and great for people watching! I ordered almost everything in the photo from my first visit from last November (Boeuf et œufs/steak and eggs and Quiche Lorraine) --except this time, I didn't have champagne, but instead, I had Crème Brûlée for dessert!!! Everything was awesomely delicious!! My server, Hugo, was wonderfully quick and efficient! He and another colleague - Mary Rose - did a great job recommending the Crème Brûlée for dessert (glad I listened to them)! I will of course, be back! Disappointing. We were excited to go there for my birthday! I ordered the special halibut and asked that the asparagus to be well done. The server asked me if I still wanted the sauce on the fish, I said yes. The asparagus was not so I sent it back and it was still not done. The fish was dry and I realized there was no sauce. We ordered a scoop of ice cream with chocolate ganache sauce, it came with no chocolate sauce! read more

Sat in the covered patio in back it was a little warm and humid when I first got in there, but either I got used to it or it got a little bit cooler. My server was Oscar and he steered me towards the brussels sprouts to go with my filet that I ordered. Great service all the way thru. . I love the filet so much- perfect temp- buttery and very tasty. But you know it was really outstanding with those Brussels sprouts?! Everyone who orders something that would vaguely go with brussels sprouts is missing a trick if you don't order them honestly . I thought the potatoe purée had a great consistency and you could taste the butter in there, but I think that chef missed a step when adding salt. They were a little bit bland and lacked a little of salt. In fact, I couldn't taste the salt in there, at all. They were still delicious and I could put salt on them, but yeah, they weren't seasoned the best. I ordered the Demi baguette to go with dinner. I was dining alone so I didn't really need to stand on ceremony however, I do like a sliced bit of bread. They only provided me with a butter knife, which God knows what I'm supposed to do with that. ( well butter, ok) I had to ask for a 'bread' knife, which still was not up to the job- you need a serrated blade to cut bread. I assume you're just supposed to use your hands to tear it apart, but if I was dining with somebody else that would be super clumsy, nobody wants someone else's hands all over their bread. In fact, I watched the two gentleman in the next table, struggle with their bread and cutting it into 2. There's not any way to do this without grabbing the bread with your hands . The butter that came with the bread was really good. I assume they want to get a bit of branding in with the presentation because it comes in a bag that doesn't do any good at all except for say "Pomeroy" . I guess if you forgot where you were, now you know. It seems kind of wasteful of trees. Anyway, my complaints are pretty small and I overall I thought it was five stars, not enough to deduct one star for the silly bread presentation or the lack of salt in the potatoes... I would go again and I would probably order the exact same thing. read more

As our server for our first time there, We sat in the courtyard, ambiance was amazing, we came in a bit before 6pm, beautiful atmosphere as the sun sets, We had Jordan recommendations for food; Lobster Risotto and Chicken as our entrees, split between me and my partner, he also recommended our wines and cocktails. Service was amazing and would definitely recommend him, he's easygoing and fun to talk to. I made reservations for Father's Day dinner and it was my first time trying Pomeroy. We were seated at a booth table as soon as we checked in with the host. The place was busy and had a fun vibe. Our server was friendly and helpful. I tried the BOUILLIABAISE, COUNTRY PATE, and the FUSILLI AUX CHAMPIGNONS. Everything was delicious and satisfying. I really loved the pate, every component on the plate all came together so well. My Agave Old Fashioned was also made just right. The clean bathrooms are located at the lower level. The place was neat and lively, the service was efficient, and the food was great. I will for sure come back to try the other dishes and drinks on their menu. Til next time! read more

Came here on a Friday night and luckily made reservations almost a month ahead of time as this was for a birthday celebration. Prior to the actual day of the reservation, I was receiving automatic text from the restaurant asking about the birthday celebration and their name. Upon arriving, I realized why they were asking because they took the liberty of printing, happy birthday, as well as the name on all of the menus of those in the party for the dinner that evening. That was a very nice special touch. This place itself as a, and the ambience definitely fits into that. Expect to see the leather and the old-school styling and hardware as well as the volume level to support it. It has indoor seating as well as a back patio and the front patio for seating. We sat inside and luckily, even though it was a very hot and humid day the AC was definitely not hot. The menu has all the classic dishes available. Bread and butter service comes at a fee. Portions overall are fair and if not a little bit generous, considering it is French cuisine. Everything came out very well and very freshly out of the kitchen as well. The only disappointment I have is that the escargot did not come in its shells. I have to say that I would definitely come back here because I have no desire to try the French restaurants in the city as well as paying city taxes and paying for city parking . read more

Went to Pomeroy for the first time this week with my wife and thought it was really impressive. The north shore needs more places like this that rival the quality of restaurants in the city. The restaurant itself is super well put together. It is a solid sized space but feels cozy, the lighting and vibes were perfect. The food itself was quite good too - for starters my wife and I had the East Coast Oysters, the Tuna Tartare, and the onion soup. The oysters and Onion soup were solid, but the tuna tartare was super fresh and tasty. For our mains, we split the burger which was solid as well, but not mind blowing. I will say the fries they use are fine but I would assume Kennebec fries at a French restaurant. For dessert we had the creme brulee which was good but was chilled which was surprising. The service was stellar, our waiter didn't miss a beat, had solid recommendations, and was friendly. They even have free valet which is a nice touch. Will definitely go back. read more

We came by for dinner on a Tuesday night and the restaurants was packed! We didn't have a reservation as we figured Tuesday night wouldn't be too crazy. Thankfully we were able to be sat anyways. The hostess was able to seat us on their heated patio, and with how chilly it was outside we were rather nervous but it was super warm and the patio is stunning. The fireplace had cozy seating and it really took to the appearance of a French cafe. Our waiter was an absolute delight. Giving us the low down on the menu and sharing with us his favorites. We gave it a go to try the special the beef but unfortunately we were just minutes shy before they sold out. I ended up getting the steak frites and they did not disappoint. The tenderness of the beef and the au jus on the steak was incredible. To drink I had their nonalcoholic lemonade which was a delight, it was similar to a blueberry spritz. By the end, we were too full for dessert. But overall loved our experience. We can't wait to come back to try brunch one of these days. read more

Had a late lunch with hubby while driving through the neighborhood to visit a friend. All I gotta say is y'all have a great thing here with this restaurant available right in the neighborhood.
