Nestled in the town of Brandon, this place sports old-world charm, warmth and comfort. We were welcomed with excellent hospitality that made me feel right at home. Sid, the owner, went above and beyond to ensure a memorable night. He even gave us a ride on the oldest continuously operated elevator in Vermont! While it is a historic hotel, it's not without modern amenities and comfortable rooms. The room was warm and inviting. It needed a little updating and the doors don't close too well, but you'd expect that in a hotel from the late 1800s! Although we were only there overnight, I can see its potential for all year round stays, and even has the space and amenities for weddings. Brandon Inn is an old historic Inn, in the tradition of grand country Inns. Lest anyone forget, Vermont is a rural state, you're in the country. So as one reviewer said, it's a marvelous change from slick, modern and sterile hotels. If that's not to your taste, maybe just stay out of Vermont. That said, we had a wonderful stay there; in fact, although we anticipated just one night, we kept extending it. The Inn is under relatively new ownership and is steadily being restored and upgraded, and it will take time. So far the ground floor is pretty much done, as is the backyard meadow and outdoor pool and cabana, and they are fantastic. It's a huge place and walking in you feel all the space, several giant parlor rooms with overstuffed furniture, high ceilings, right out of the 19th century. Beautiful floors. A very old elevator, maybe even manual, but we avoided it and used the stairs, big wooden curving bannisters, you know what i'm saying. Upstairs, the bedrooms are slowly starting to be upgraded. As they are, they are perfectly fine but not pristine. Set your expectations. Everything works, the bed is comfortable, great shower; it's not ragged, it's not the lap of luxury with fine Italian sheets, it's somewhere in the middle for now. And so it's still affordable. For us, the lack of cookie-cutter corporate commerciality was refreshing. If that's your thing also, this place will work for you. If you demand pampering and your environment constantly telling you that you're elite and special, maybe not the town of Brandon for you at all. The hospitality is excellent. The new owner obviously considers this a labor of love, the restoration. The potential is huge, and his eye for detail in the process is praiseworthy. He went many extra miles for our personal benefit, and we are grateful. A note on the town of Brandon: It's a small town that exists in the shadow of Middlebury, 20 miles to the north up Route 7. That's where the college, and the money is. Brandon has made great gains in recent years. We'd never spent much time there, and were very happily surprised to find it a lovely place to wake up in. A couple of minutes away on foot is the Morningside Bakery, with 5-star (i.e. real) coffee for the discerning folks, and (real) French pastries, both morning (croissants, muffins, buns) and dessert style, the kitchen is right there in the room. It was originally founded by a French couple who moved to Brandon, of all places, 20 or so years ago for the outdoor life, from Provence, France, and opened the bakery, a wine shop, and also (mainly) a nearby fine dining restaurant. Kind of high end. And somehow made a go of it all and it's wonderful. They passed the bakery on to others recently who continue it just as before, adding a woodfired pizza option, but the restaurant, called Cafe Provence, is a town mainstay and offers truly fine French cooking and wine list. This is, simply put, amazing for Vermont, even moreso for Brandon (talk about nonsequitors). But there it is. There are also a couple of pubs, a diner, a pizza/ice cream place, all on the same one-block walking strip. And some local art spots too. The more you look, the more you find. There's music events, major artists, and even a community of New York artists slowly migrating up there since it's "pre-gentrified" and sort of undiscovered and overlooked still. Naturewise, well, it's in the sweet spot with Lake Dunmore ten minutes north, the Green Mountains on one side and the Champlain Valley and a zillion farms on the other. What more can I say? Try the sticky bun and cowboy cookie at the bakery. read more

My husband and I visited last week and they were great! Before we got there he hurt his leg and had a hard time lifting it into the claw foot tub. The owners were nice enough to move our room and while we were out and about that day they moved our luggage too so all we had to do was go to the new room. They were very accommodating, the place was very clean and everyone was friendly. If I had to have a complaint, the only one I could think of would be the towels, etc. Very rough and not soft but that was very minor! We would stay there again. read more

Built in the 1700's this historical building is now an Inn. The ceilings are grand, nice spacious rooms. The bathroom includes a claw foot soaking tub, just beautiful. Large sitting area in front of a fireplace when you first walk in .. has an old bell hop elevator. If you like history you'll love this well preserved relic! Staff was friendly, beds were comfortable enough. Cute bar area. Breakfast was just grab and go bagels, English muffins, donuts, fruit, toast, yogurt and granola...Nothing fancy-but free nonetheless. read more

We stayed at The Brandon Inn on Oct. 8, 2024 and were sorely disappointed. Our room had no heat (front desk said the heater was broken and being repaired - they provided us with a space heater). The door to our room would not lock properly and there was a past attempt to fix it with brown putty; they were aware there was a problem but did not offer to move us. The breakfast was meager, the "pub" was not in business, and there was no one stationed at the front desk. If you are elderly, choose your room carefully because otherwise you will be lugging your suitcases up flights of stairs. The elevator can not be used without someone from the Inn coming to work it for you. Highly disappointed that we paid $209 for a room without heat and a hotel with almost no amenities. read more

The Brandon Inn appears to be an old hotel, a marvelous change from the slick and sterile hotels in most places. The floors are a bit uneven. The wall paper has a few spots that need repair. The furniture is mostly older, overstuffed, and very comfy. If you prefer modern and perfect, this isn't the place for you. We knew we would be arriving about 1:00 am from the West coast and they had no problem accommodating us. Our room was spacious and well appointed. We slept like logs. The breakfast was extensive, very well cooked and presented. The chef clearly takes pride in his product. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is not often I leave negative reviews but in this case it is warranted and I feel I need to warn others. I stayed overnight at the Brandon Inn which by all accounts seemed to be decent place. While the lobby was clean and staff was friendly, my room had a serious bug infestation - they appeared to be beetles of some type. I found one crawling on the rug next to me before retiring for the evening and awoke to find the bathroom window sill (between the window and screen) infested with hundreds of bugs. I opened the window to see if they were dead and a few started running into the room. I have to imagine that there must have been plenty of them in there during my overnight and the very idea of this is repulsive. My friend, in another room, also saw bugs in her room. When we spoke to the manager upon checking out we showed him the photo. While he was kind and apologetic, we did not get the impression he found this as unacceptable as we did, and there was no offer of compensation of any kind. This in came recommended by some friends in Chittenden. I wanted a weekend getaway to do some snowshoeing, eat some good food and do some antiquing. This in was a great location for all of that. They were close to the Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center for snowshoeing. There are great restaurants in town within walking distance. And there are even great places to go shopping. The Inn itself is a little worn but it is an old place. My room was clean and comfortable. My only complaint was my stay did include breakfast and even though the food was in buffet trays it was cold. Other than that I was very happy with my stay. read more

Just what we were looking for on our visit to Vermont Staff went above and beyond to care for our group .we loved it

This Inn is old and most obviously historical. That often relates charm or a "cozy" feel, but not in this case. The Brandon Inn suffers from a lack of maintenance, a lack of features, and an overall lack of comfort. Though where it is lacking, it makes up for it in price. When we arrived there was heavy construction on the road, which is not the fault of the Inn. However, with their sign taken down, the Inn did not put up any temporary signage for guests to easily find it. The Inn had an elevator from the turn of the last century with a sliding gate, but it required someone from the front desk to use it. It is very old and cramped, but the experience was fun. The historical novelty wore off once we saw how inconvenient it would have been to actually invoke the front desk and use the elevator. With our room on the third floor, we decided to simply take the stairs. The room's door was warped or simply hung crooked and the old fashioned keyed locks barely kept the door latched. When closed, the door jostled to and fro a good half of an inch, letting hallway light bleed into the room trough the large cracks and gaps. In general the latching of the door seemed like more of a formality than a true security measure. The room was a good size with its own bathroom and two very small closets. The overall color scheme used subdued greens, muted pinks, and floral patterns. The worn green carpet barely disguised the settled and un-level floor, and did nothing to muffle the creaking. There was debris underneath the bed that somehow survived the most recent cleaning. The bathroom had a toilet, sink, tub, and shower head. The toilet seat was broken and shifted to the right along with the floor's uneven slope. The shower head was fairly low and as a 6'2" man the water sprayed below my chest. The water heat was spotty and you could tell when someone else on the floor was showering. The shower head also dripped non stop when it was off. The bottom of the shower curtain had dark spots marking the beginning of mildew. A small complaint is that the sink's mirror was not above the sink, but on the adjacent wall to the left, forcing us to crane our neck while brushing teeth or hair. Thankfully there were countless mirrors all over the room. Amenities: I was told there was a pool, but did not investigate it, mostly because the theme of the Inn so far made any pool sound terrifying. The room had no television, but a small AM-FM radio sat atop the far dresser. A tan phone was available in the room, and a small hair dryer was under the bathroom sink. The window A/C unit worked but was clearly small for the room and loud. There was WiFi, but it was so spotty and had such poor connectivity, it is best to say there was no WiFi. The wall outlets are 2-prong, and at least one by the bed was attached to the overhead light circuit so it would be off at night, and was unable to be used to charge devices. Also, there was little to no mobile/cellular service in the town in general, so be prepared with books or other analog entertainment. There was no iron available in room, but the instructions made clear that you could inquire with the front desk about their "ironing room" which is pictured and consists of a closet on the second floor with an old, stained ironing board with some melted wax or plastic on the end, and an iron. There was a "Pub" attached to the Lobby, but when I asked about it, I was told it is not open unless a group reserves it. If you want a drink, you'd have to go to the nearby grocery or really search for a liquor store. There was no restaurant attached to the Inn except for the continental breakfast. Even so, if you were to find a place to eat in town, don't bother bringing back leftovers because there was no refrigerator in the room and any ice had to be obtained from the front desk. The breakfast was highly touted, but again suffered from high potential but poor execution. Locally sourced yogurts and fruits are a good idea, but there was something unappetizing about a community bowl of yogurt when you are in line and observing the occasional fly zip around. The available hot food was served in heated trays, but the scrambled eggs, specifically, were not simply moist, but actually wet and soggy eggs. The breakfast meats were fine. The waffle was good, and the complimentary Vermont Maple Syrup was delicious. For two people to stay two nights, the cost was ~$350.00. For what was available (or not) that price was unacceptably high. Overall this Inn does have the potential for historical charm and to be a quaint experience, but fails due to the lack of maintenance and features. The general experience was made worse due to the fact that there is very little to do in town and so time spent in the room felt exponentially more bland. Generally I assume that in it's current condition, this Inn would be mediocre even in 1900. read more

We stayed here as part of a Roads Scholar tour. The hotel needs significant upgrades to even come up to minimum standards. Poor quality bedding, sheets, towels, furniture, lamps etc. Furnishings mismatched with thrift store quality at best. Breakfast buffet however was very good and the dinner was ok. We have stayed at a lot of historic inns with charm and quality furnishings. Sadly this one has neither. read more

Joel McClaren and his staff run one of the most beautiful, old, classisc inns I have ever visited. I've stayed there three times, and each time left totally relaxed and happy. The inn is full of objets d'art and wonderful antiques like a grandfather clock in the reception. Adjacent to the reception is an old ballroom in which the literati gathered for special occasions during the belle eopoque,, and the anteroom that one walks through to enter the reception is spacious and tastefully renovated with bright, new paneling. It is a very inviting space in a very quaint town with plenty of diverse dining options. I have always had to depart before the breakfast service, but I understand it is gracious, and carefully looked after by its host. Especially in an age where most inns and hotels no longer serve breakfast, this is a wonderful attribute in a lovely, historic inn that is centrally located in Brandon and offers very resaonable rates. The kind, personal touch by the staff and owner to all guests is unique and special. There is also a pool out back and spacious greensward for the guests' pleasure. read more

I visited The Brandon Inn with a large group for a conference. The hotel itself is a grand old girl with many original features, tall ceilings, and loads of charm. Don't miss the chance to ascend in VT's oldest, staff-operated elevator. I stayed in a spacious double room nicely furnished in antiques. The bed was simple but very comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean, even the old-fashioned ruffled curtains were crisp and dust-free. While it did take a few minutes for the shower to come up to temperature, once it did, it offered good water pressure. The meals we had were all excellent, but breakfast was amazing. The bacon--and it's not easy to cook bacon correctly--was irresistible. The staff members were unfailingly welcoming, helpful, and friendly all day long. The Brandon Inn was established in 1786, but that's where the charm ends. The "historic elevator" was broken. The floors in the entire building, including the rooms, were not level. The "furnishings" resembled items from the Island of Misfit Yard Sale Furniture more than anything historic (see photos). The bathtub backed up each day that we were there and the front desk pretended that they had no prior knowledge of the issue, but not to worry, as they'd send their maintenance guy up (it was Saturday at 8pm). We knew they were lying. Guess what, the problem persisted after that (see photos). The towels were tattered and threadbare (see photos). All in all, our money could be better spent at the Motor Lodge down the road (where our friends loved it) than here. read more

Before anything else let me say that the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly and the breakfast is great. Sadly thats about the end of the good things I can say about the experience. The problems started well before we actually checked in. We where coming into town for a wedding so we made our reservations months in advance. At the time of making the reservation we where told the booking system was offline, we didn't get confirmation from the reservation system that our booking was confirmed until two and a half months after making our reservation. Now this didn't really matter to me since I had been assured we had a reservation, it just seemed a bit odd. Our reservation confirmation provided the statement that the Inn gets locked up at 11pm so if we would be arriving after this time to let them know so arrangements could be made for checkin. While I expected our arrival time to be earlier, the drive was longer than expected and at about 4 pm the day of our checkin it occurred to me that we would be arriving late. We wanted to get into Brandon around 5pm because we had a wedding rehearsal dinner at 7pm to attend, but our arrival time was going to end up being right at 7pm. We called to let them know the situation and advise the Inn that we would not be arriving until after the dinner which would be about 10pm (a full hour before the stated need to be there time in the email). We where told it would be best to check in before since no one was going to be there that late. It was decided my wife would drop me and my daughter off and then handle the check-in. It should have raised a major red flag for me when the Inn had a payment policy of full payment is due on check in. I have stayed at a lot of hotels and there are only two reasons a hotel does this. Option 1 is they don't trust the guest to actually pay there bill or option 2 is there are so many things wrong with the hotel the owner knows that guests are going to complain and request a reduction in cost before the end of the stay. My wife arrived at the rehearsal dinner about 30 minutes late because of having to deal with the check in process. When she arrived she gave me my room key and said we would need to use the back door of the hotel to get in since it was after hours. I assumed this meant the key to our room was used to open the back door. Since we had already checked in we ended up going to one of the local bars after the dinner and dinner end up getting back to the hotel until about midnight. The first thing I noticed when we walked up to the back door was the hand axe that had been left in the window, clearly used for chopping wood but nothing says child safe environment like a hand axe just left hanging around for anyone to play with. Having had a few drinks I fumbled with my room key trying to get it to fit the backdoor, but it wouldn't but somehow it magically opened the door, I thought it was just I had magic powers in my drunkenness. (turns out they don't bother locking the back door overnight when people need to get in late, seriously go buy a keypad lock if you can't afford the cost of a universal key lock). There is no elevator that can be used after hours so I lugged all three peoples worth of bags for a week long trip up the third floor. Nothing is more fun after a couple drinks than this! As we went up stairs i noticed most of the rooms on the second floor had there doors opened and the rooms looked decent. So knowing we had booked a suite I was excited to see the room that was costing me $500 for a three day stay. When I opened the door to our room I was amazed, and not in a good way. First of all the room was about 95 degrees (that was the actual temp) and was super dry. Second it was not even remotely close to being a suite. It was two rooms attached to each other, neither of which had any living space in it. Owners need to learn the difference between a suite and attached rooms. Putting to rooms together does not make it a suite. We immediately cracked open all the windows to drop the temp. The beds where comfortable and it wasn't long before I was asleep, it would be a restless sleep though due to extremely high temp (no individual temp controls in rooms) and dry air. In the morning I awoke and went to take a shower. The water pressure was basically zero and the water stone cold. Its a old building so I waited expecting the water to heat up, then I waited some more, then I waited some more. After about 15 minutes the water was warm enough to shower in (it never actually got above luke warm). We headed down to breakfast. The food was the first good thing about our stay, the only objection I have and it is major was the fake syrup! Seriously its VT! The second day the second floor was being painted so the entire hotel smelled like paint. The issues continue on like this but there is only so many characters allowed in a review. Long and short staff is great but for what you get the cost is way to high. read more

Stopped here on the way back from vacation. Most hotels in the nearby towns were booked, so we decided to make the drive to Rutland. Once we saw this place, we decided to stop and check for available rooms. It definitely has curb appeal! Overall, I was fairly pleased. The inn is obviously very old (they boast the oldest operating elevator in Vermont), but is clean. The rooms could use some serious updating: think green carpet and floral. Wifi was free but I had some connection issues. No TVs in the room. Bathroom was new-ish but tiny. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast came with the room and it wasn't fabulous-standard continental. I expected more given the cute and historical facade. read more

This historic and refined Inn has an amazing event and catering service. We were treated in best possible fashion for a "greatest generation" birthday party luncheon on this past Independence Day weekend. Sarah and Lea were bend-over-backwards helpful and accommodating for food and drink selections. We were treated exceptionally well in the Garden Room setting - with a fine wait staff. Our hors-d-oeuvre were perfect. The squash soup and fresh green / apple salad courses were great warm-ups for our delicious salmon and stuffed eggplant entrees. We were spoiled by an amazing birthday cake creation. The Inn receives the best possible rating from all fifteen(15) celebrants. THANK YOU! read more

I have only wonderful things to say about the Brandon Inn. We stayed for the weekend to attend a wedding nearby. Our room was large and full of charm. The important things were updated - bathroom, mattress, etc..- but the overall feel was original. The staff stayed past midnight to welcome us. The breakfast was complimentary and delicious. Extremely over priced. I think they pride themselves on the age and "charm" of the place, but while keeping the "charm" they should still be maintaining the building. The only place to stay besides a moter lodge, and with it being a popular wedding location i think that's why they get away with charging crazy amounts of money. It cost $350 for a 2 night stay. No bar, no restaurant, a loud window unit air conditioner, no TV, barely working WiFI, no fridge, no iron in the room, they dont lock the place up at night, loud, you must get an attendant to even use the elevator. Nothing luxurious, or convenient about the stay. I've stayed at 5 star hotels in vegas for less than that per night. Only positive thing is the breakfast was pretty good for being free. read more

I wish I had read the reviews here before I reserved the room at the Brandon Inn. I was really looking forward to going there because I grew up in Brandon and I worked at the Brandon Inn one summer after college before I started a teaching job. When I worked there it was busy, albeit with old people. But I'm an old person now so I thought it would be nice. Back in the day It had a busy lobby with people coming and going and a popular restaurant. Now it's dead. We saw 2 other parties over the 2 days. No energy at all in the lobby. Everything is dark and dingy (charming to some) and the room wasn't comfortable. The bed was fine but the bathroom small with tiny fixtures. The shower hits the chest. You have to hold down the toilet handle and watch your business swirl before it goes down to be sure the next user doesn't get a surprise. And no one checked in to see what we thought about the room or our stay. I emailed the management about my experience and essentially was told I should have checked the website to see the condition of the room! read more

Having our wedding at The Brandon Inn was an amazing experience. Sarah and Louis accommodated us every step of the way. They allowed us lots of freedom with how we used their space to achieve our DIY theme (cosmic/space theme!) but took care of all the important things like amazing food, our choice of bar offerings, and a wedding cake. The massive building is set up perfectly. The first floor contains their large dining rooms, an onsite bar, a ballroom, and a large lounge, which allowed our 150+ wedding party the space to mingle and hang out together. They have around 35 onsite rooms all with different configurations and layouts. The big backyard and back patio/pool areas were fun to hang out in and we noticed lots of well kept gardens, stone work, and Sarah was even picking fresh berries at one point. It gave us a sense of Vermont heaven. If you are looking for a wedding venue, consider the Brandon Inn because of its charm, space, experienced innkeepers, and location (right in the middle of town). While the building is old, Louis and Sarah have taken great care in updating and maintaining the space. Thanks for such a memorable wedding! read more

The other review on here is well accurate. It felt and smelt as if you were staying with someone else's great grandmother in her big old house with well used everything. My wife and I had to find somewhere to stay in the area that night and everywhere except there was booked up go figure. It is far far from worth the $150 or so paid. LOVE this charming historic inn in Brandon, VT. I had a nice spacious room and slept soundly. A great breakfast is included and it was lovely to meet up with family there for our family reunion during Labor Day weekend. Brandon has some wonderful shops including Blue Moon and Found Objects, and a restaurant as good as any in NYC called Cafe Provence which also has a French bakery in town. The inn is about a 20 minute drive from Rutland where I came in via Amtrak from NYC. There was a wedding at the inn over the long weekend so fresh flowers were everywhere. I think this would be an ideal place to host a wedding in the country. There's also a pool in the back of the inn and short walk to pretty waterfalls in the area. A country store is next door that sells candy, ice cream and antiques. What more can you ask for?! read more

Love this Inn! We stay here often and it is always a pleasure. The Pattis family who are the innkeepers are wonderful people. The Inn is a beautiful old Historic Inn so don't expect modern conveniences. The food is prepared fresh by Chef Louis (Austrian trained) who prepared delicious meals for group dining. Breakfast is a full hot buffet choice, not a cold continental cardboard one. As with all older buildings, some things run smoother than others. If you want cookie-cutter resort room decor and need your Netflix fix, then this is not the place for you. I joined my husband while he was traveling on business and I expected to pay for the extra dinner and breakfast but did not expect an additional charge for the room since it was not upgraded. The room was furnished with early Salvation Army furniture and a double bed. The mattress was like sleeping on a small rock with a cheap blanket. The toilet ran all night and the towels were old and warn. The dinner was wonderful and the breakfast buffet mediocre. Pancakes and sausage were cold. The eggs were very good. Although most of the staff were very pleasant and accommodating the innkeeper had quite an attitude and was prone to exaggeration. The only plus is that it is a cute little walking town with lots to explore. My advice, stay someplace nice and drive into town. They nickel and dime you and you can do far better for your $$$. read more

I've been a guest at the Brandon Inn solo or with groups at least a dozen nights since 2014 and it is my favorite hotel in VT. (As a tour manager- I've been to a lot.) The staff is very friendly and hard working. One complaint I saw in the reviews was the breakfast was not your "standard continental", which it is not. It is so much better with homemade granola, locally made yogurt & pastries, rotating hot items, fruits, juice, and more. The place really is a history buffs dream, the building is from the 1790s, and the elevator is from 1901. All the rooms (I've stayed in a good amount of them) are unique, clean, and comfortable. There is a pool and bar on site, and the inn is in the heart of town, and easy walk to shops and the farmers market. I most often escort groups of seniors to stay here, who can be notoriously hard to please and the inn and its staff are always a hit. I'm heading back next week and cannot wait. read more

"Let's start with check in. Show up at 4pm to check in. We are third in line to check in. By the time the woman at the desk is done with the first person there are 6 people in line. The elevator requires that an employee operate the elevator. The first person in line was asked by the check in woman if he wanted to take the elevator up. Mind you, 6 people are in line and she has taken 10 minutes to check him in so far. He declines the elevator ride. She insists. He says no again, she insists again. So she leaves 6 people standing in line to operate the elevator taking another 5 minutes as we stand there cooling our heels. At 4:50 we finally are checked in. We had two rooms, one for adults one for the kids. The room for the kids was supposed to have a cot set up in the room." No cot. It turns out the woman checking us in put the kids into the wrong room. The room with the cot was given to another couple who came down wondering why there was a cot in the room. So it took her 15 minutes to check us into the wrong room. Normally I would not bring this up, but coupled with all the other problems, I will. The toilet in the kids room was out of order right off the bat. Now for cleaning the room. The towel my wife used after her shower needed to be cleaned. So it was dropped on the wet floor to be replaced with a new towel. When we returned to the room the soaking wet towel left on the floor had been returned to the towel rack and was still quite wet. The evening before we had a glass of wine each. The dirty wine glasses were still in the room after the housekeepers left. Additionally the water glasses we had on the bedstands were still there undisturbed by the housekeepers. Essentially all the housekeepers did was make the bed and pick the towel up off the floor and hang it up. All in all, the hotel staff was substandard. While the setting in romantic and in the center of town, better hotels can found. After bashing the check in staff and the housekeepers, I have to say the servers at breakfast were top notch. Helpful, eager and willing to do what it takes to make the guest happy. read more

Just attended a phenomenal wedding here! Amazing food - great cheeses, whole pig roast, delicious salads. Beautiful area behind the inn for the ceremony, including an outdoor fireplace for afterward. Friendly, out-going staff was extremely helpful! I can't wait to go back! read more

Which is why it pains me to have to complain here about their customer service and cancellation policy. Yesterday, I made a reservation for tomorrow night, and last night I learned I couldn't travel right now. I called first thing this morning to cancel, more than 24 hours advance notice. Most places only require you cancel by 6PM the night of your reservation. I was told that I would be charged $75 cancellation fee. When I asked what the minimum notice was, they said 20 days. Seriously??? They don't require 20 days advance reservation time. They are willing to take my money within 20 days, why won't they refund it if something comes up even more than 24 hours in advance? And $75? The room was only $119, I might as well have sold my reservation to someone on the street for $50 and made a profit. And the person on the phone was indignant that I wasn't pleased about this. What a scam. I guess I would just say, if you make a reservation, you'd better hope nothing happens to you in real life. Don't treat this like a real hotel, treat it like a stranger's house where they don't keep up the place for guests unless they have literally three weeks notice you're coming, and then will be pissed if they actually have to clean up a room for you and you tell them only 19 days in advance you can't make it. We went here for a wedding. The wedding was really beautiful in a adjoining ballroom with wood floors. The reception/dinner was like high class old europe, extremely nice. The rooms were very large with tall ceilings, but the walls are thin, we could hear people talking next door a little. The radiators (heat) comes on in the middle of the night and it will wake you up, there is no way to turn them off and they make a clicking sound, and then it got too hot so we had to open the windows. Ask to go to the very top floor if you want the baseboard heaters and to actually sleep in, but those rooms are smaller. Breakfast was a very, very good buffet but ends promptly as scheduled so don't miss it. The coffee was fantastic too. Really cute town, and this hotel/B&B is centrally located. The elevator is so old that you have to ask for help to use it. There are many rooms here and the building looks 1980s remodeled but I think I read it is over 100 years old. Really long hallways and tall ceilings. Great people at the front desk that want to help you with information. A cute patio that is glass enclosed, you can sit out there and read or have coffee all year around and watch the cars go by. I heard there is a pool in back, we did not have time to use it. There is a bar that is open after dinner and there was a DJ in the ballroom at their reception. The bar was a nice size and the drinks were awesome. The front door locks after a certain hour so you have to ring a bell to get in the building (we went down the street for more partying.) The only thing that might surprise you is there are no t.v.s in the rooms, but there is a t.v. viewing sitting area on each floor. There were no children there maybe because of this lack of t.v./babysitter in the room. I would stay here again, and if you are in the area go for the food for sure. read more

Overpriced! The common areas of this inn are quite nice. Our room, on the other hand, was shabby. The rug was stained and the shower was phone booth sized. Breakfast was average and included fake maple syrup. Our room was $175! Very disappointing! read more

Have been staying in Vermont inns all over the state every August since the late '80s with a bike touring group of about 30 cyclist friends. The Brandon Inn is one of the very best and is reasonably priced compared to others where we've stayed. Management was easy to deal with. This year, ours was a three-night stay with dinner and breakfast in their bright, large but charming dining room; our rooms were comfortable and spacious, the staff were competent and friendly, the food was excellent. It is true that the floors are not level and the bathroom fixtures are probably more than 50 years old and if that is a problem for you, don't go to Vermont, you surely won't enjoy it. Brandon is in my opinion, the best starting point for great bike rides in the state: the roads are in good condition, traffic is light, and the rides are picturesque and varied. Our three days at the Brandon Inn this summer was one of the highlights of 40 years of Vermont cycling trips. read more

What a fabulously wonderful place to stay. I had the opportunity to attend a quilt retreat this past weekend that was held at the Brandon Inn. The staff was so friendly the moment we walked in the door of this comfortable, quaint building. Every single moment of our time there was incredible. The food was amazing for the entire weekend. We were treated like royalty which included an afternoon tea with scones. Breakfast buffet was delicious and the dinners were even better! The rooms were adorably (and old fashioned) decorated, clean and perfect for sleeping. There are no televisions in the rooms and unless you want to wait for the staff to run the elevator, you need to take "healthy steps" to go up to your room, but I am telling you that it is worth it!! Those things added to the charm! Take a moment to step back in time and relax in the picturesque town of Brandon at the Brandon Inn. read more
