    Lake Champlain Room
    Tim F.

The place has been an inn since the late 1700's and is now a great B&B with a gastropub. In my mind, definitely one of the best B&B's I have stayed at. During our visit, we stayed in the Lake Champlain room which has a queen bed as well as a day bed for our little one. Rooms are good size and very well decorated with period furniture. Most rooms, including ours, come with shower and bath, although I think one or two of the rooms have shared baths. The real treat is the gastropub that serves very high quality meals, which incorporates local meats and vegetables. I had a tender pork loin with rosemary potatoes and broccoli. Folks at our table raved about the steak they had. Dessert was a free form strawberry pie which was absolutely delicious! On top of that the prices were very reasonable, especially given the quality of the food. Breakfast which consisted of fresh berry pancakes, maple sausage, juice, muffin, yogurt and coffee was just as phenomenal! There is definitely a close eye to detail paid by the proprietors of this fine B&B. We would definitely come back for another stay, if we happen to be in the area.

It's well-worth the drive to the village of Shoreham, Vermont to experience consistently top-notch cooking and a great atmosphere.

Super thinly sliced and a big let down. My Middlebury cut was great. For the price of the English cut I should have sent it back. They no longer have the great salad bar, soup station, cheese board or bread station. And Sunday brunch is gone also. The decor and service was great as before. We are not likely going to have it as a destination anymore. Very disappointing indeed. We have been customers for over 15 years and made the long trip because it was so good. Sorry for the poor review but we dine many places and we get much more from other establishments.

The restaurant has been around for more than half a century and has an eclectic decor with walls covered in black and white photos, hundred year old Hackercraft motorboat, biplane propellers, and wooden skis that likely were used to carve up Stowe and Killington. We started with a watermelon margarita and an extra dry Hendricks Gibson up. The drinks were perfectly chilled and hit the spot after a long day touring Fort Ticonderoga. We were told that their prime rib was the belle of the Fire & Ice ball so we made that our dinner. Roasted slowly overnight, the meat is perfectly medium rare inside with a delectable crust. Served with a range of sides and a generous dollop of freshly grated horseradish, we could not have been more pleased with the quality and quantity of the prime rib. They have an interesting dessert cart but, after 40 ounces of delicious prime rib, we gave the sweet course a miss. Fire & Ice is a compelling option for those spending time in Middlebury. We highly recommend this venue.

They were voted 2019 #2 Best Restaurant in the Rutland area and I think they were robbed. My husband began the night by choosing a menu option that allows customers to buy the back of the house staff a round of cream ale which causes them to erupt in kitchenware percussion and celebratory hooting. The Potato Leek soup was velvety and delicious. They served us the best fried Brussel Sprouts that I have ever eaten. They were crispy, well seasoned and the aioli was also good but they didn't even need it. I am not much of a drinker but their specialty margarita was so well made (and strong) that had I not already gotten quite precious after the first one, I would have ordered another. My husband liked the cauliflower, squash mac and cheese special. My mushroom ravioli with capers and cream sauce were also delicious. We finished up with a house made lemon-lime cheese cake. Usually, citrus is not welcome in my dessert. I prefer chocolates, cookies and caramels in my cheesecake. I want to know that my Diabetic Ketoacidosis Emergency admission to a backwater hospital was well earned. However, it was delicious. The service was friendly and unpretentious, in my adorable, slightly drunken state I became absolutely thrilled when one of the waitresses was publicly gifted with a Plague Doctor Squishable (look them up). I ordered mine in September and cannot wait to receive it. I felt an immediate, margarita and plague doctor inspired, affinity We'll be back

For instance, if you get a burger, it's a good hearty size with nice fresh toppings and a pleasing amount of fries. Other options are lackluster. For instance, the chicken & french toast has so much promise. I expected 2 or 3 nice juicy chicken tenders with a couple pieces of homemade french toast, all eggy & cooked on a griddle. Nope. Three 3" hard "tenders" and a bunch of deep fried french toast sticks that arent all that dissimilar from those sold in the freezer section of the grocery. It was more of a kid's meal but it wasn't listed as such. I had hoped for something more elevated with a more homemade touch. Was it bad? No. Was i disappointed? Yes. That said, this place feels very homey and that I like a lot.

It was a very short drive and the parking facilities were good .. the interiors and seating were good too. Lots of space inside to sit and drink. Service was good, and the waitress was always smiling and took care of us well. Being a brewery one thing that surprised me was they just had one IPA on the tap.. just one IPA.. can you believe it? I was eager and waiting to drink a home grown New England/Vermont IPA but all we had there was one variety... it was a hazy IPA and don't get me wrong. It tasted really well... but I wish they had more options. They also had a wheat ale and some wine varieties.... Even in the food front, the menu was limited and less options.. We ordered chicken wings, and it was ok. Sauce was a bit sweet .. one of the sauces was really good and spicy . Overall, it fell short of my expectation and wish they had more food and drink options.. 3 stars ...
