Short story: would absolutely stay here again, great ambiance, clean, comfortable and great hosts. Great two night stay, could not have been better. Kevin and Scott have done an incredible job since taking over the Inn. It is just what you would hope for as far as ambiance, it is spotlessly clean, very comfortable everything in our room worked, not an easy thing in 200+ year old building. Thoughtful things like an open outlet at each night stand for charging electronics, plenty of room for putting your things away. Breakfast was great and we enjoyed the pub/bar that is open for guests from 5-8pm. Very warm friendly atmosphere, we thoroughly enjoyed it! read more

We just moved to Shoreham from North Carolina and were so relieved to find out about this place. We've eaten here twice in the three weeks since moving and have not been disappointed with the food or the service. The menu is updated regularly and everything from the hot wings to the bean burger to the flatbread has left us beyond content! We are so happy to have such delicious, locally-conscious options so close. We'd go out of our way to eat here if it weren't around the corner! And their Covid precautions are A++ to boot! read more

Enchanting! Comfortable. Luxurious. A sugar bowl of charm. The only things missing are horse-drawn carriages outside and period outfits on the friendly ghosts who might wander inside. The rooms are immaculate and sleep so very embracingly. You can never forget this is a truly historic building with the ship-like steps, talking floors, and long-lost craftsman-level wood carpentry, yet every modern convenience of a Comfort Suites has been added to your room. Save for TVs. TVs would actually feel out of place. If you need a TV at the Shoreham, you are probably missing the experience of staying at an old New England Tavern. The common room feels inclusive and beckoning, and is a joy to enjoy for casual talks or a quiet book. We did both. The tavern side looks like a movie set, and if you don't like their inn-baked breakfast scones & local jams then there's just something wrong with your taste buds. The rest of the menu offerings are equally mouth-watering and belly satisfying. Note: inquire about any evening Tavern offerings when you plan your stay. Middlebury and Ticonderoga are biking distance away and dang near hiking distance. Awash with great restaurants and shops, both have the same charm that the Shoreham Inn reflects of Vermont so well, and the scenery constantly takes your breath away. Burlington is an easy hour north through camera-begging vistas. There can't possibly be more hospitable, professional innkeepers than Elizabeth & Andrew. They juggle the various guests with aplomb yet still make you feel like dear relatives come to visit. You'll be so glad you picked the Shoreham Inn, however long you stay. read more

The place has been an inn since the late 1700's and is now a great B&B with a gastropub. In my mind, definitely one of the best B&B's I have stayed at. During our visit, we stayed in the Lake Champlain room which has a queen bed as well as a day bed for our little one. Rooms are good size and very well decorated with period furniture. Most rooms, including ours, come with shower and bath, although I think one or two of the rooms have shared baths. The real treat is the gastropub that serves very high quality meals, which incorporates local meats and vegetables. I had a tender pork loin with rosemary potatoes and broccoli. Folks at our table raved about the steak they had. Dessert was a free form strawberry pie which was absolutely delicious! On top of that the prices were very reasonable, especially given the quality of the food. Breakfast which consisted of fresh berry pancakes, maple sausage, juice, muffin, yogurt and coffee was just as phenomenal! There is definitely a close eye to detail paid by the proprietors of this fine B&B. We would definitely come back for another stay, if we happen to be in the area. read more

Looked up best places while we were overlooking the ferry at Ticonderoga Ferry. We the Shoreham Inn and decided to take the ferry across ($12 one way). So glad we did! The food was delicious. Sheena was our server and was so kind and patient. We shared the Vermont cheese plate, with 3 different cheeses and 3 types of crackers. And in the middle was mango chutney. So good! I had the grilled honey garlic pork loin with mashed potatoes and substituted carrots instead of broccoli. Everything tasted as though it was straight from the farm. My husband had the Summer pasta with penne, zucchini, summer squash,ricotta cheese and he finished before I did (although I did try some first). Fantastic! For dessert we shared the banana cheesecake and the caramel pots de creme. Both great. We enjoyed the atmosphere on the porch. Just be careful of the neighborhood cat. While cycling through the Champlain Valley, I was thrilled to come upon my evening's destination - The Shoreham Inn. A warm, inviting, beautifully maintained inn with lush gardens. I dined at the bar and was attended to by the warm female bartender. I had the Caesar salad with a homemade, broth-like New England style clam chowder. The soup was fantastic- light, flavor filled and creative. A special treat was fresh raspberry pie w/ vanilla ice cream. Returning to my cozy abode in the rear Sheep Barn, I was given the royal treatment by the neighbor's cat. Or vice versa. She lavished love upon love and demanded more in return. And more. I sat down in a garden chair, she joined me. She wrapped herself around my shoulders, with her face nuzzled behind my ear. I was wearing a cat scarf. One that licked my hand like a golden retriever. Seriously, she drooled in my hand as I caressed her cheeks But I didn't invite her in. This cat has it made - she cudda been a stah! read more

When new owners take over a well loved community restaurant, it's easy to be skeptical that the food may not be as wonderful. Owners Elizabeth and her husband (the chef) have made an excellent inn even better. The owners have kept old favorites like bang bang chicken and banaffi pie, but new editions are welcome and fabulous. Tonight I tried the vegetarian special, bow tie pasta with creamed corn, fresh basil and cheese. My meal was a delight in every bite. My partner had the bang bang chicken, a boneless chicken breast over pasta with a tangy sauce and green beans. The food promotes local produce every evening there is something new, creative and wonderful. I have to say, Elizabeth and her home made desserts is a Vermont treasure. Do not leave Shoreham Inn without trying her homemade banana cheesecake with whipped cream and caramel sauce. I was in heaven and ate it slowly to savor every morsel. The Shoreham Inn continues its long legacy of superb food, traditional New England charm, and warm friendly proprietors. Bravo!!!! Since my last review 7 months ago I have to say how pleased I am with the Shoreham Inn. The food is just amazing. We walked in late and the fireplace was not lit. Our server went right over, put on a few logs and in no time a blazing fire. Tonight we had Indian Butter Chicken. Delicately spiced served with Naan bread and perfectly cooked green beans. For dessert we tried the Hummingbird cake. A delicious blend of pecans , pineapple, bananas and drizzled with cream cheese frosting. I am wondering what brings someone to Shoreham VT. for us, it was a race in the nearby state park - so it was completely random we landed here. and dammit are we happy we did. this ain't your mama's B&B - this is straight outta English/Irish countryside joint that would have been featured in a Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.... except it wouldn't because there isn't anything needing saving by that loud fool. walk in, Molly the proprietor comes from the pub area to check you in. cozy rooms upstairs with none of that over-the-top crap you can get at some places. settle in, head down stairs to the sizable pub and grab a perfectly poured Guinness. then, when the crowd allows, grab a table and order some of the finest food you are going to get just about anywhere. it's pub-like food, but without all the heavy bland flavors that tend to accompany such a menu. not a single disappointment with a table of 6. and we are tough bastards. like i said, not sure I would ever have the need to be in this particular area of VT again - but surely I would stay here again, even if my plans take me within an hour's drive. it's just that damn good. read more

The atmosphere is top notch. As others have mentioned it is an old school inn in the truest sense of the word. Really does take you back to the John Adams HBO miniseries. There is nothing like it in the lower Champlaign Valley area. If you are by chance coming from New York, if possible take the wonderful little ferry across the lake. The food I believe is overrated. I do not have a single bad thing to say about it. You will never ever get bad dish here. However I feel that the fact that it is one of the only quality restaurants in the area it gets accolades beyong what it deserves. My go to dish is the cheese platter and the hamburger. Both very good but not over the top which is the reputation this place carries. The Shoreham inn services a small but needy surrounding area and serves it well, just don't expect greatness. read more

A lovely and historic old inn, run by the wonderful owners who live on the third floor. My room was very cute and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. They even had a pretty good selection of Vermont beers. My family and I are regulars of the Shoreham Inn, and usually we only have very high praise for it. However, yesterday we had a truly dismal time. We had planned to have a nice outing for Mother's Day, as it is my grandmother's favorite local spot (until last night), and were left waiting perhaps half an hour after our reservation food order . Granted, it was pretty packed for the holiday, and everyone present had served their time as a waiter before, we were ready to forgive. An hour later we had still not recieved our food, had not been told what the hold up was, and had not been given the opportunity to order appetizers. I hesitate to say our order was lost, but several groups that came in after us and had similar orders were served long, long before we were. We were never told what the problem was, and although the waitress and manager (both very nice, though understandably harried) both came to apologize, with no explanation and no 'it'll be another 20 minutes, can I get you an appetizer to hold you over?' my poor grandmother became very upset, worrying about my grandfather not eating until late and then getting a really terrible nosebleed due to the stress. There was no concern or offer of help from any of the staff, and overall it was a really upsetting experience from what we'd come to think of as a family place. We probably won't write off the Shoreham Inn - the food is very, very good and up till now we've only had very pleasant experiences - but it definitely tarnished our thoughts on it. Frankly, I'm pretty shocked, and very dissapointed. Pros: Very good food, usually good service, a very decent bar and wine selection, polite and friendly waitstaff and managers. Cons: Does not handle a rush well, and once a meal has gone wrong, very little is done to right it on their part, will not offer an explanation or come clean about what's happened. read more

This inn charged me for BOTH days of my reservation after I canceled the reservation through Expedia due to a maintenance-issue flight cancellation that left me no viable option to get to the event I was trying to get to in that area. Maybe I could understand charging me for the first night, but both?? A gentleman who was going to be on my flight lived in that area and said due to several large events taking place they should have had no problem reselling the room, at least for the 2nd day. So just be prepared to be charged for your entire reservation if something happens beyond your control and you can't make it... read more

All I can say is this place is beautiful. I was part of a team who came to Whistle Pig Farms there in Shoreham. They were gracious enough to book three of us there at the Shoreham Inn. It is fantastic, beautiful, and majestic all wrapped into one. I had the privilege of staying in the Bear Room, and it was fantastic! The breakfast was fantastic, the owners are very friendly, and go above and beyond for guests. I will say our three arrived before 10pm :) I suggest you do the same. This is someone's beautiful house that they are deciding to share with you, not a hotel. Be respectful, simple as that. We visited this place for dinner with family members. The location has a good cozy pub atmosphere. We sat down at a table in the bar section on antique wood table. The furniture varies by type and appears to be collected over time for a unique look. I ordered a great Guiness for my first drink and then a hand poured black and tan for my second. The black and tan was poured with a great dividing line and tasty. We started off dinner with a Caesar salad that I shared with my wife since it was a good size. There was shaved Parmesan cheese place on it, a good amount of dressing mixed with all the greens so it sticks to just the greens and not pooled on the bottom of the plate. For my main dish, I had a spinach and mushroom risotto. There was a good variation in the types of mushrooms in the dish. The spinach was nicely wilted as well. There a good flavor in the rice with good tenderness. All in all, it was a good experience with a good meal. read more

This was a disappointing evening on a special family outing. Where we were seated was not a cozy inn corner as we had expected. Part way through our meal a very large, very loud chatty crowd were seated next to us. The end of our conversation. This was a first time visit long awaited. Needless to say, it will be our last. The food was nothing to bring us back. The bill took a long time to be paid because it was half gift card and half credit card which the manager(?) or the machine couldn't make work. The gastropub in the Shoreham Inn is one of the best I've ever eaten in. They have a new menu every week, so it's tough to give a review of specific items, but they always have a cheese platter and the Shoreham burger on the menu along with the banoffi pie for dessert. I booked this hotel with a group of parents for the football game. We traveled from Maine and Boston. Unfortunately, my son was injured at the game. I called the hotel, from the ER, to cancel my room, which was reserved for one day, to cancel and the OWNER literally told me, "tough luck, you reserved it and it could have been given to someone else. I'm not refunding you anything." This was his immediate response, there was no empathy about my son or the situation, no apology, not even offering to reimburse half of the cost. This man was uncivilized, rude, inconsiderate, and I can't believe I was treated with such disrespect. I would never ever book a room here again. read more

My husband and I have stayed at the Shoreham Inn twice and eaten in the pub three or four times. During our two stays, we were in Sheep Barn Suites which we really liked. Both suites were spacious, well appointed, equipped with refrigerator, microwave, French press, coffee and tea, and hot water kettle. The bath is stocked with locally made, organic, and paraben-free shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. And there's a fireplace! The suites are kept as clean as possible, but given the location, a variety of bugs find their way in. Wireless is free and works well, but cell phone reception is dicey at best. The food served at breakfast is terrific-- there's always freshly baked bread or muffins, yogurt, cereal, tea, locally roasted coffee, and an entree if desired (e.g., pancakes, frittata, eggs & bacon). Molly couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. Dinners are also of high quality and generous quantity. We have family in the area, and they really love the burgers. But, everything we've had there has been quite good. We'll be back!!! read more
