The mixology menu here rivals some of the best restaurants I've visited worldwide and at a far more reasonable price point. Milkwashed vodka, multiple absinthes, rare bitters like Mephisto, Fontbonne herbal liqueur, black pepper, and muddles like apple-rosemary-thyme tincture are jut a few of the ingredients you rarely see elsewhere. Megan, the mixologist behind this cocktail menu, brings real craft, boldness, and subtle layering here to every drink. It's an inspiring work of art. With started dining with bruschetta topped with balsamic reduction and fresh mozzarella. Simple and perfectly prepared. Dinner dish one was fried chicken thighs with French-cut green beans. The chicken was juicy with a crisp, light breading; the beans were buttery with a punch of garlic. Again, perfectly prepared. Second dish was the medium-rare ribeye which was basted in garlic and herbs. I chose hand-cut fries and from the list of preps for steaks and burgers went au poivre to test their French chops, steak-frites-style. Note to self... au poivre on a burger is one I'd never thought of and is now on my list to try. The steak dinner was decadent. For dessert we chose crème brûlée... which was light and delicious. We also tried the bread pudding and it could stand proudly in New Orleans. Service was fantastic across the board. We'll gladly make the nearly two-hour drive back and we'll be spreading the word far and wide. Six out of five if I could... which I've only given to a Michelin Star restaurant in Portugal. read more

Finally, an upscale restaurant in Fort Ticonderoga! I took a group of eight here and we all loved it. The food was outstanding, yet reasonably priced. The service was great and the location along the LaChute River is very picturesque. The bar is great and the modern bathrooms are incredible. You can't not be impressed with the facility. They even offer convenient EV charging outside. read more

Husb. and I went for impromptu visit to the up and coming town of Ticonderoga-it had lots of new shops and places to explore! The brand new Paper and Pencil was on our to do list and it was such a delight. Welcoming atmosphere right from the start from the manager Tom. We seated ourselves at the bar/chatted with the very personable Connor. I had the Filet which was outstanding husb. had the ribeye and loved every bite both cooked to perfection. We were treated to the macaroni and cheese and it was by far the best I've ever had. This place is a must when in Ticonderoga and it is going to be a regular for us! read more

Very disappointed with this place. First time trying to eat in this place and they have no idea what they're doing. They told us, at first, they have no availability when we arrived, that we need to make a reservation. We ask when is the next availability and that told us in 1/2 hour, we said ok, we'll take it. When we came back in 1/2 hour they told us we are not on the list and they can't accommodate us because they don't have enough employees to cover the tables. Like whattttt????This is very unprofessional and Thomas needs to get his training employees to know how to communicate. This is not how you run a business. I'm glad we didn't end up eating there because we went to Seymour's Restaurant and the service and the food was excellent! read more

Went Saturday night, June 21, 2025 with a 7:30 reservation. My daughter and her friend had gone the night before and liked it so much that they took us there when we arrived at Lake George. Seated on time at a great table upstairs large enough for our party of 6 to be comfortable and it was great to have the space to ourselves as the space is only large enough for six. We had the eggplant frites, the Cajun pasta, the filet, crab cakes and bang bang shrimp, all of it outstanding. The crème brûlée and chocolate mousse were also amazing. They're still getting their timing down but we were a large party with many different orders, and having such a good time that the extra time was much appreciated. Waitress was wonderful and accommodating. Their system has an ordering device without having to go to the kitchen or a terminal which was cool. Host was likewise accommodating and gave us frequent updates on the kitchen. Wonderful spot and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to have a nice relaxing dinner without being rushed out the door. read more

I don't write reviews often - they usually sound so "Karen-ish." But this was truly a subpar experience - BOTH times we visited - and the restaurant really needs to hear it. There are almost no fine-dining options in Ticondaroga, and we were in town for five days, so we ended up eating here twice. The food was quite excellent, but the service was simply horrible BOTH times. 15+ minutes to get first drink order placed (not received), 20-30 more minutes to place order (which should be done when drinks are delivered by the same server, but she scampered off), no bread delivered until entrees arrived (waitress actually apologized for this) about 45 minutes later, several items on the menu were unavailable. I asked to have the beverage menu re-delivered so that I could order wine with my meal, and had finished 3/4th of the way thru the dish before we saw our server again, by which time it didn't make sense to order the wine. I had to harangue another waiter to find OUR waitress to deliver our check when we were done (and had waited 20 minutes after we finished eating). What should have been a 90-minute meal turned into a nearly 2:45 waiting ordeal both evenings, Thursday and Saturday. The place had only three servers, and could have used three more - even on the Thursday night we went. They were only moderately more busy on Saturday - not nearly busy enough to justify the lousy service, but I was willing to make more allowances that day. Do your excellent chef a favor and bring the service up to the level of your menu (when you have the items, that is...). I'm sure this is somewhat of a "seasonal" issue, but when you're the only game in town, you really shouldn't rest on that. read more

House "specialty" was a pasta dish that was supposed to be in a cream sauce. I did not expect the cream sauce to be like water and the pasta chosen (oversized elbow noodles) to be almost impossible to pick up with a fork. Beggars cannot be choosers though as it was the only place open on a Monday night in Ticonderoga (except for McDonald's). Nice looking restaurant though. read more

Was here with my family and service was so slow. Was told they were out of pasta, which is fine however they didn't tell us until almost 40 minutes into us sitting there. Ordered our food and waited over an hour for our food to come and everything was cold. I ordered the fried chicken meal and sent it back to be heated up and it came back 30 minutes later piping hot and everything was mushy as if they put it in the microwave. The fried chicken was like mush. My son was so hungry waiting that we asked for a bread basket because every other table had one and it took over 20 minutes to get it. We had high hopes for this place and left extremely disappointed. We would've left earlier however our kids were so hungry we decided to wait for dinner. Definetly will not be coming back here and do not recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the area. read more

Tragedy of errors dinner experience...you can't make this up! 1. 4pm Wednesday reservation, party of 4 adults; arrived and seated promptly, only patrons in restaurant. Good start, but don't be fooled, it's downhill from here. 2. Waiter only filled 3 glasses and started to leave...called back to fill the 4th. 3. Drink orders taken...about a 30min wait for 3 drinks to be served. Nothing complex: 1 root beer and 2 cocktails. 4. Appetizer orders taken. Menu states 1/2 price appetizers from 4p-6p. Dinner order also taken. Out of short ribs, out of fingerling potatoes... Chicken marsala ordered with request for extra broccoli instead of rice. 5. No bread basket provided for table. Didn't realize we were shorted on this until noticing it on subsequent tables. 6. Apps served... bread was requested at time of ordering Irish steamers to use for dipping in the sauce...never provided. Waiter apologized and went to get it-never returned with it. Sauce is described as being Guinness steamed with garlic, herbs and drawn butter. It was a vinegary, burnt-tasting brown liquid. Just as well waiter forgot the requested bread as sauce was inedible. Crab cake app was meh. Bang-bang shrimp was the winner. 7. Waiting for dinner... 8. Apps consumed, a 2nd cocktail requested by one person...after waiting over half hour, her husband went to the bar to get it for her. Waiter in the wind. 9. Salads served for the 2 whose dinners included them, but wrong dressing with one of the salads. Corrected with apologies from the waiter. Decent salads. 10. Another half hour+ wait for entrees. Chicken marsala was served over pasta?! and no broccoli in sight...waiter took dish back to kitchen to correct. Again with apologies. Clams fra diavolo ordered by 2; only 6 clams in each dish and sparse sauce (extra sauce was requested but never provided...waiter said it is prepared to order, so unable to obtain more, offered marinara which was accepted, but also never provided). The sauce provided was delicious but inadequate in quantity to fully coat the the pasta. Chicken marsala with generous portion broccoli. Broccoli was was the highlight...crispy-tender roasted with some charred edges. The filet was cooked as ordered but seemed small for the $48 price tag. 11. It is now 6:30 pm, dinner consumed, dessert declined. Waiting for checks (2 separate checks were requested at the onset). Also note 3 of 4 water glasses were empty and no attempt to refill. Still mostly empty tables in the restaurant. 12. Waiting for checks... finally check arrived...all items on single check. Waiter left to correct to separate checks as initially requested. Throughout all the delays and errors, profuse apologies from waiter, but this really grew old. 13. Separate checks arrive... Irish steamers charged at full price ($24 for 12 clams!), other 2 apps at half price as per menu...waiter questioned and said the steamers are excluded!! This is not stated ANYWHERE on the menu or the listing of appetizers. He offered to adjust price after I expressed my annoyance, but husband said not to bother as we were already so delayed and waiter was obviously inept. So, we paid cash, other couple used credit card. 14. Waiter returned with card and we see that he applied our check to their card. Not sure how he could mix this up... cash was with our check, credit card with theirs. Tangled mess!! 15. After much delay, finally straightened out, sort of... they ended up applying the difference to the credit card. In the meantime, waiter said he would have manager come to our table. Never happened. Finally departed @ 7:29pm. Almost 3.5 hours of disaster in a not-busy restaurant for early dinner on a weeknight. 16. I'm now kicking myself for leaving a tip. We are locals and will NEVER be back. Word of mouth is worth a lot. 18. As a small town we crave a few decent places for dinner out. Sadly, this one does not fit the bill. Management needs to manage, train and monitor staff. Especially with moderate to high menu pricing, service should be flawless. 17. Suggest: travel to Schroon for Flannigan's or Pitkins, or the gem in Pottersville: Cafe Adirondack-we've had many, many meals there...always delicious and fair priced, competent and friendly service. The food was very good but their online menu and restaurant menu didn't match plus the service was unacceptable. The online menu had a picture of the pork chop sitting on a generous helping on mashed potatoes which is why I selected the restaurant. The online menu description said au gratin potatoes which I didn't read until I was served the pork chop with no potatoes. When asked about it, the server said she'd check with the kitchen but did not return with a response. When I was about 3/4 finished, the server asked if I was having dessert and when I said no, dropped the check and left, never to be seen again. read more

We were surprised when visiting from CT and searching for restaurants in the area that Paper & Pencil was not appearing on YELP. This is by far the best restaurant within many miles of the area. We are surrounded by 5 star restaurants in the Fairfield/New Haven counties of CT and consider ourselves true foodies. This restaurant reflects what you would expect when visiting a high end dining establishment. Great service, excellent food and a family owned business that cares about their guests! read more

My wife and I, along with another couple stopped in for dinner here last Saturday evening. The food and service were exceptional! Understanding it's a new business just getting itself established, we did experience a few hiccups along the way... But nothing that would preclude us from stopping in again for a delicious meal in a beautifully renovated setting. I know there have been other reviews that were not as positive as our experience... But it's easy to understand how difficult it must be starting a new business in this area without a few "issues" . We are seasonal residents in this area and wish them all the best as their intent is to be a year-round business... Which this area desperately needs more of!!! read more

In. Concept, Paper and Pencil seams like a welcome edition to the limited restaurant offerings in Ticonderoga. However our recent dinner experience reveals that the execution was lacking . To cut to the chase, on Saturday Oct 5th at 6:30 we sat down for dinner and it took approximately 1 hr and 50 minutes to receive our entries. This is simply unexceptionable. While my short ribs were very tasty, and one of my party's steak was a nice cut and well cooked, the smoked peach salad for $14 was little more than some semi grilled peaches, a few Cherry tomatoes and iceberg lettuce with a bland buttermilk dressing. For that price I expect more. Finally given the challenging economic demographic of the area,, it would be nice to see some lower cost hand-held menu offerings such as a burger. read more

We found the experience of the Paper & Pencil outstanding. From the moment we entered we were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm from the staff. We oohed and aahed over the clean lines and aesthetics in the architecture as we were led to the patio upon our request. We found the menu exciting! I settled on the Sweet Reds (summer red berries, roasted beets, goat cheese, arugula, balsamic) and the chilled Beet Soup. Companions settled on the Crab and Tomato soup and Salmon and green beans. All were hits!!! We are already talking about what we will order next when we return. The dishes were put together with care and attention to great detail but the best part was the flavors in each and every bite! I am so impressed that the produce is all locally sourced. Ticonderoga needed this, thank you Megan Cunningham for having a vision and bringing it to fruition. read more

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Paper and Pencil. I went just eight days after they opened and the place is gorgeous inside and out. The atmosphere was just what I was looking for in a new restaurant in the Adirondacks. It was the perfect location for a fancy dinner with my grandmother. The food was phenomenal. Everything I tasted was perfect and delicious. My favorite above all else though was the jumbo crabcake. It is so decadent and flavorful, and felt like it was melting, gooey, and warm in my mouth. The service was also amazing! Everyone was so nice and the owner came out to chat with us for a minute and told us the background on the crabcakes. It was a wonderful experience and a fantastic dinner and I will definitely be going back. read more

Really wanted to like this local restaurant - but not only did it seem like it was being run by people who had never run or worked at a restaurant, but by people who had never actually been to a restaurant. Came in with a reservation and was seated quickly - we were a large party but there were only 2 other 4-tops occupied. Then the trouble began. First, it took about 15-20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge that we were there. We finally called a waitress over and she took a drink order. About 15 minutes passed and the three sodas showed up (two with NO syrup so essentially colored soda water). Another 15-20 minutes passed and finally started getting cocktails. Mine was 100 proof - no tonic, all gin, completely undrinkable - even Johnny Depp would send that one back. Other cocktails seemed fine. We asked for bread and water and pretty quickly two small trays of what appeared to be tiny scraps of bread pieces from other tables were cobbled together - about 6 pieces of crust - at this point we asked if we could order appetizers and the waitress said she'd be right back but then disappeared into the kitchen for another 15-20 minutes. When she resurfaced we decided that we had better order apps AND entrees before she vanished again. It was at this point she informed us that 3 of the 6 entrees were unavailable. So we all quickly regrouped before she could flee the scene and ordered what was left on the menu. She headed to the back and another 15 minutes passed before she returned to inform us that actually one of the remaining entrees had only 1 serving left. So 2 people reordered what can only be described as "on the fly" entrees made up of what ever sides and meat was remaining in the back. Some people ordered more cocktails and they showed up at some point. We are now 1.5 hours into this ordeal. Another 30 -45 minutes go by and finally the apps start showing up - but not everyones! The crab cakes were cold but good and the shrimp was fine. Then another 20-30 minutes pass and the entrees start to arrive. All were cold - the "medium rare" steak they put on the "made up" mac and cheese dish looked to be cut up shriveled side pieces from someone else's steak. My "Apple Walnut Salad' came with no walnuts, brownish sliced apples, a couple of leafs of lettuce and some triangle sliced american cheese. At this point it was just funny - completely inedible. I pushed it to the side to keep my undrinkable cocktail company. People ate whatever they could stomach and we decided to get the check - but no one ever came back. Finally, someone went searching for employees and found them all drinking at the bar. Nice. Meanwhile, tables full of old food sat on the other two tables collecting swarms of flies. So gross. In all, we spent 3 of the longest hours in this place sitting in the most uncomfortable chairs we've ever sat in - pretty sure most left with varying degrees of sciatica and spinal cord injuries. It seemed as if the employees were there under duress - like a group of hostages working against their will to serve people they despised. Over priced horrid food, horrible service - but really pretty bathrooms. This experience was like an episode of Twilight Zone where we were suspended in time. I wouldn't have been surprised to find that 30 years had passed when we got outside - we were all the same age but everyone we knew was 30 years older. If you dare to go here, bring your own food and drinks. read more

New local treasure with a contemporary rustic vibe in an 1820's building. The cocktails are imaginative and delicious. We had a great tomato basil soup for an appetizer. I had the short rib that was delicious and my husband had a miso salmon dish cooked perfectly. We were so pleased with our meal that we booked dinner for the next night. Four of us went for dinner. One dish, the pork chop came out about five minutes after the other meals were served. It was raw inside and needed to be sent back. Took a long time to get the server's attention. We finished our means before the pork chop ever came out so we asked for it in a takeaway dish. No one checked on us at all during the meal. The apology felt forced and awkward. It seemed like they didn't know how to run a restaurant. We'll give it another try, hopefully they will figure it out. read more
