We enjoyed our stay at the Mountain Top Resort, and attended a wedding on site. This property is located in Chittenden which might be convenient during the winter ski season, but we found it a bit out of the way and not very close to much. Rutland is the closest town. About the property, it is nice and seems well cared for and has beautiful views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains. Rooms are a bit dated, but clean. All the staff we met were very friendly. We had a chance to eat dinner at the restaurant on site and we were pleasantly surprised at the caliber of the food, well above standard "hotel" dining. This carried through to the food which was served to us at the wedding, again well above what we expected. There are a variety of activities available, but we felt that the property didn't quite rise to the "resort" bar. Again, winter might be completely different. read more

We were given the room near the stairs at the check in building. 1) you can hear people from 2 rooms down screaming 2) you can hear the tv blasting 3) you can hear the doors slam 4) I went to the front to complain about the door slamming and no one was at the front 5) there is no ventilation in the bathroom, so when you take a hot shower there was moisture on the ceiling dripping. 6) no elevators. Yes very thin walls. I could not sleep. NOT FOR SNOWMOBILERS. JUST STAY HOME. Gas is 11 miles from the resort. You have to ride on pavement and dirt to get to the trail. There was a construction site by the main lodge that was all dirt and large rocks that you are made to ride thru. They could have easily taken snow banks and covered the area up again. There is a reason they don't list snowmobiling as an activity, because they don't want them there. They could easily knock down the snow banks along the roads to the houses for us to ride on but they don't bother. They could easily make trails to the trail, but don't bother. This is a strictly Cross Country Skiing resort. I will not be going back unless something changes. On the plus side we stayed in a beautiful 3 bedroom house with 2 fireplace's and plenty of room for the 5 of us to lounge around, make food and soak in the outside hot tub. Please keep in mind at $1000 dollars a night you would expect such a beautiful place to stay. The view from the house is also to die from, as you can see from my pictures included. read more

The Mountain Top Inn is a perfect wedding spot. We had the pleasure of attending a wedding here and had a great time. The food was delicious, the drinks were flowing and the scenery is breathtaking. We stayed in the Lakeview Lodge with 6 other people and could easily have fit at least 3 more people in the spacious lodge. Points detracted as the lodge could use a little upkeep - just about every screen door was broken and other minor things like that. I would love to come here one day for a proper vacation! read more

This place was amazing! We came this past week for a wedding, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful! We originally got a room in the inn but when we got there asked if there was something bigger for the 4 of us. The front desk gave us a house to stay in which was much bigger and only $100 more. It was worth it. The only bummer is the house is very outdated. I wish it was more updated and the carpet didn't have burn marks in it front of the fireplace. Otherwise, this place is amazing. I had two friends get married at mountaintop inn, and so decided to turn it into a long weekend visiting Vermont. The property is absolutely gorgeous, but there were a few items about the hotel room (main lodge) that I'd like to share with you. These included: * A lack of lighting - there's no overhead lighting and were only two lamps, which makes for a very dim room. This forced us to have the windows open for any light (see below why that was annoying). * Workmen outside our room constantly - our room was right in the front, which was fine, but when you're getting ready for a wedding at a specific time and have to have your windows open for light, it's creepy and frustrating. They were right there and we even made eye contact. I've attached some photos. * Same workmen being loud at 7:45 am the day after the wedding! Excuse me, you know we were up late celebrating please do not have loud beeping outside my window that early. It was what is typically a backup noise, so after giving it 20 mins I did call down to the front desk and ask them about it. Ten mins after that (8:10am) the beeping stopped. I appreciated that they were responsive once I said something. Started up again at 8:30, so limited relief. Edit to update: the woman at the front desk was very apologetic when we checked out and comped our breakfast from the hotel restaurant. I really appreciated this. * Activities center hours are not accurate. We asked the front desk where the activity center was and a lovely lady directed us and said it opened at 9, but when we got there at 9:05 nobody was there. We waited until about 9:30, in case they were running late, but nobody ever showed up. * Hotel restaurant food was quite yummy. They had a lot of different options, and it came out quickly and tasted excellent. The waitstaff were also all super helpful and nice. Now the property views and wedding itself were absolutely gorgeous. Some items in that: * We went for a hike on the property, which was very pretty. I know I keep using the word beautiful, but the area really is stunning. A word of warning, there are trails that are not marked on the map, which did cause us to get a bit lost. However, we were able to find our way to a main road. * The wedding, from a guests POV, went very smoothly. Everything was organized and flowed very nicely. Their coordinator, Elizabeth was super helpful when I asked what was in certain foods as I have an allergy. The one odd thing was they did ask us what we had ordered for dinner, even though we filled that info out on the RSVP. Not a big deal, but I could tell most of my table had no idea what they ordered. * Shuttle service back was very nice, as we could celebrate without worrying about driving - a perk of staying on the property. Overall, the area is very pretty and the staff at the hotel were all super kind. However, I personally would stay elsewhere for a long weekend. With the price tag, the standard of our hotel room and the men outside our window was not worth it or up to par. I could see staying here for only the wedding night, to make transport easy. I would summarize this as only a wedding destination, not a place to stay for visiting the area. read more

Our most recent visit to the Mountain Top Inn was this weekend. We live in the area and visited the Mountain Top Inn on various occasions to eat or for special events. We were in the mood to go somewhere for lunch where we could sit outside and enjoy a good meal; I also wanted to either try a new place or go to a place we haven't gone to recently. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Mountain Top Inn. It was a perfect day for sitting out on the back patio, where we could enjoy the view. Our server, Amy, was excellent. We both enjoyed our dishes and were very satisfied. I had their burger (Angus blend of porterhouse, brisket and chuck) and my husband had the Pad Thai. We also had the house salad; I highly recommend the house maple vinaigrette. Although we haven't stayed at the Mountain Top Resort, it looks like it would be a fun place to stay. We could see people enjoying the outdoor hot tub, horseback riding, the volleyball court, and the tennis/pickleball court. They also have an outdoor pool and disc golf. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. After we ate, we took a few minutes to walk around inside the main building as Amy had told us there were photos inside from when President Eisenhower stayed there in 1955. We also found photos from when Jennifer Aniston was there for a wedding. As an FYI, cell service is sketchy in this part of Vermont. While the Mountain Top Inn does have WiFi, I recommend using your visit there as a chance to unplug, relax, and enjoy. read more

Maybe an off night but food was bad and service pretty mediocre. We all unfortunately ordered the risotto which was so overcooked it was more like porridge than risotto and had mushrooms that tasted like artificial smoke flavor. Server forgot bread order but did not apologize and was cheering for the Yankees on the TV next to our table. Also did not let us know that the dining room side of the restaurant was unavailable and we would need to eat on the bar side. It was my mother's birthday so a baseball game on the tube and some drunks screeching at the bar was not the best vibe either. After taking some time to reflect, I would like to share my experience planning my sister's wedding at this venue. I do professional event planning at my place of employment for conferences and working in conjunction with the entertainment industry and my friend is a professional meeting and event planner by trade who chose to plan this wedding instead of working at the world cup in Qatar. We understand the hiccups and inconveniences in this industry and typically will let small grievances slide. From the moment my sister chose this venue, I could tell from the site visit that it was going to be a bumpy ride. They sold out the entire hotel over a year in advance with no warning to us so we could reserve more inventory for our guests. The staff on-site was unprofessional and disrespectful, making snickering remarks behind our backs and being extremely rude during our meeting with the event manager. In the meeting itself, the events manager was short with us and made us feel like we were inconveniencing her, she didn't even care to take a moment to greet us upon meeting us in person for the first time after several emails and phone calls. Unfortunately, the poor treatment continued during the actual event, with the onsite coordinator openly complaining about the after-party in front of the mother of the bride. As someone who works in the event industry, I have never felt so disrespected by hotel staff and event coordinators. Although the restaurant staff, florist, event set-up team, and contracted vendors were exceptional, the negative experience with the hotel staff overshadowed any positives. The cost of the hotel did not justify the level of service received, and I would not recommend this venue for corporate events or weddings. If you are interested in the view, I suggest enjoying lunch at the restaurant rather than paying to stay at the resort which offers little to perks and operates more on a boutique hotel level. However, if you are planning an event, I highly recommend considering a different venue where you will be treated with respect and receive the service you deserve. read more

We had a great time at MTR! We took advantage of one of the packages and enjoyed XC skiing, sled riding on the snow, sleigh rides by horse drawn carriage, ice skating, and the food there was amazing. We loved the truffle fries, enjoyed the chef specials, breakfast was great also as a self serve buffet with great food. We never left the resort the entire stay. Best part was soaking in the hot tub overlooking the mountains after a long day of XC skiing. read more

Beautiful resort on a picturesque mountain overlooking a lake. My son had his wedding here on a perfect Fall day. You couldn't ask for a better setting for a wedding. They were married in the Wedding Knoll on the top of a hill (see picture). The cocktail hour and reception were held in the Inn and adjacent barn. Both overlook the lake. The food was very good. My one complaint was the lack of food at the cocktail hour. Every 5-10 minutes a waiter would come out with a small tray of hors d'oeuvres - enough for maybe 15-20 people. Being that there were over 100 people there some people never got any food at all. But the dinner was delicious- the filet was very tender and perfectly cooked. The swordfish was excellent. And the chicken was a creative dish- bone-in chicken wrapped with bacon. My son enjoyed that very much. The Inn rooms were nice- clean, reasonably spacious. Decorations were a bit odd- we had snowshoes hanging on the walls. And the shower required a degree in mechanical engineering to be able to turn it on. But overall a nice play to stay. If you're looking for a memorable place to have your wedding, the Mountain Top Resort is a great choice! read more

The aesthetic is on point, think rustic ski lodge. Warm and cozy. Food in the restaurant was good. That being said, you can hear literally everything from your room if you stay in the main lodge. You hear every step through the ceiling from the room above, every door closing, conversations from down the hall or nearby rooms, and music from the tavern or wedding receptions. We came here to look it as a possible wedding venue and even though we last minute called they were more than happy to accommodate us with a tour of the premises and the houses we could use as well. We ate on sight and the view was incredible in addition to the food being amazing. Everyone was super nice! There is also a beach/lake access point just for the resort that was really nice which appears that you can use kayaks and canoes to enjoy. To include they also have horses on the premises. We cannot wait to come here in the Winter to see what it looks and feels like. We weren't too impressed with how the rooms looked in the main building however they have plenty of houses you could rent on the grounds as well which were really nice. We look forward to staying a few nights during the winter season to see if it will be perfect for our wedding. read more

We stayed at the Mountain Top Resort for a family reunion. The food was amazing and the wait staff was excellent, attentive, and friendly. We saw a bald eagle fly overhead while we were kayaking and playing beach games. We opened our windows at night to hear the evening critter ambiance. Several in our group enjoyed the horseback riding, the clay shooting, and the spa services. There were over 60 of us and the Resort did a phenomenal job accommodating us. We were here for a wedding and we rented a house with family. The resort is pretty spread out so walking from the house to the resort was not necessarily feasible. They do have shuttles. The wedding was beautiful and all the food was delicious. We did try out the on site restaurant and sat outside on the patio, and we enjoyed all our meals. They made a snafu and charged us for a more expensive bottle of wine than the one we ordered but they fixed the check when we brought it to their attention. It is a good thing we looked - I would never order a $100 bottle of wine at a restaurant. We did go down to the lake and took out kayaks and paddle boards. Recommend that you paddle out just past the little bay to the open water. It's beautiful! read more

The two stars are for the restaurant staff and the view. The restaurant staff were extremely friendly and the food was good. Although, it was a bit expensive for what it was. I also witnessed a busboy inform someone that didn't have breakfast included that there was a charge per person after they had started to eat, which I thought was a bit unethical. Overall, though, the restaurant staff were the highlight of our stay. The view was amazing even though it was raining. We were lucky enough to get some sunshine for a few hours to really take it in, but the banquet staff were setting up for a wedding ceremony on the terrace and they made it seem like we were an inconvenience even though we weren't in their way. They muttered "We'll just have to come back later" and carried on complaining about the company that they work for while setting up benches. The front desk staff were great to work with over the phone in the months leading up to our stay but were less than pleasant in person. Interacting with them was a very disappointing experience to say the least. The person that I checked out with didn't even ask how my stay was. We did not feel welcome. Our "Luxury Cabin" (Saddlebrook) was far from luxury. The walls were paper thin and we could hear everything in the adjoining space. There was no privacy because of the way that they were designed. People could see in every window and we had to keep the blinds closed. The view from the cabin was terrible: We overlooked the service entrance for the barn/wedding factory. The mattress was in rough shape, probably ten years old, and there was sand in our bed when we arrived. The water pressure in the bathroom was also weak. The majority of this place is disappointing - save the restaurant. It is a poorly decorated, dated, and overpriced wedding factory that targets both couples that don't understand that there are better places to get married and an aging out demographic. The wedding that was there over the weekend was very loud and we could hear dogs from the wedding party barking next door for several hours. Their owners didn't even check in on them and they barked nonstop until well after 10 PM. They say that they're dog friendly, but that's only true to a very limited point. We take our dog everywhere and were happy to pay for her to come, but we could only take her into our "luxury cabin" or outside. I would have at least appreciated the opportunity to sit with her in the main lodge by the fire while it was raining. We were not impressed to say the least. It is their loss because we were considering renting one of their larger houses with our friends and their dog later this year. We will be looking elsewhere. read more
