The Birch Ridge Inn is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Killington. Though it can be a little hard to find if you don't know where you are going the entrance alone is grand! You have to enter up this little covered bridge which is pretty cool. Once entering the Inn you are greeted by the owner or his wife usually and brought into the dining room or the bar if you choose. the decor is very welcoming and has a very cozy feel to it. You truly feel like you are visiting a friends home. The food was excellent the drinks were well crafted and the evening was memorable. Can't wait to come back! read more

My husband and I had a beautiful anniversary dinner at Birch Ridge Inn, and I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a cozy, delicious experience in Killington. The ambiance was very memorable -- from the adorable covered bridge you drive through, to the architecture of the inn, to the sweet greeting from innkeeper Bill. We felt like we were visiting someone's home, and we could definitely sense Bill's passion for the place. We visited around Christmastime during Covid-19, so Killington wasn't as busy as I'm sure it usually is. We had the choice of eating in the dining room or in their lounge in front of the HUGE and beautifully decorated tree. Christmas music was softly playing, and the romantic cabin aesthetic really made me feel like I was living in a real life Hallmark movie. The food was good, not SUPER memorable, but very yummy. We had the brie (my favorite), ravioli and NY strip steak. Overall, the experience was fantastic for our anniversary. Try it out! read more

I am reviewing the restaurant only, as we have never stayed in the inn, but have visited the restaurant numerous times. Bill and Mary have created an amazing dining experience in a area that lacks fine dining. The food, service, and ambience are excellent. Since the menu changes frequently, I cannot comment on all the dishes, but can discuss what we had on our most recent trip. Appetizers included the duck, spinach and strawberry salad, escargot, and cheese plate. I did not sample any, but family said duck was great, as was the salad. The spinach was slightly wilted, which gave it a delicateness that it rarely has. Dressing as great as well. Escargot were not excellent. They were adequate flavor-wise, but grainy in texture. For entrees, my family had the rack of lamb, vegan stuffed bell pepper served on a bed of mashed potatoes. and pesto gnocchi. All were excellent. Tiramisu as well. This place is not cheap, but the pleasant, romantic, yet surprisingly not pretentious atmosphere, in combination with the attentive service and excellent food make it worth it. For food, dessert, wine($80), and a few drinks, the price was $350 including tax and tip for four people. read more

I can't recommend this inn and restaurant high enough. We stayed here for two nights (a homemade, full breakfast is included with your stay) and also had dinner here on a Saturday night. The restaurant is open to the general public. Everything we ate was delicious and the environment was one of fine dining, but still cozy. If I am in the area again, this would be my number one pick hands down. FYI: Only one room at the inn has a mini fridge, most do not. read more

The high ceilings of the A-frame paired with the gorgeous Christmas tree make it my favorite spot to dine at during the holidays in Killington. Cute little old school spot. We tried it out on Valentines weekend. You have to drive under a low clearance tunnel when you go so be careful if you've got the Suburban loaded with a ski rack. Very friendly owner run small inn right on the Killington access road. We didn't have much in the way of expectations especially given the reasonable price for the room. The room was small but had a gas fireplace and a large bathroom. Breakfast was included in the price and was different every day we were there. Nice way to start the day before hitting the slopes. The inn also has a gourmet restaurant with a small menu that changes every week. The restaurant isn't cheap but it was well worth the price. We came back for dessert the next day because after eating sea bass and duck after a salad starter we couldn't eat anything else that day. Not a great place with kids because it is a small inn, but a nice intimate inn for couples. read more

If you are going to Killington, you must stay at the Birch Ridge Inn! After spending a long weekend here, I don't think I would stay anywhere else unless I scored a deal at the Grand Hotel (and that would just be for the ski-in/out convenience). Bill and Mary, the owners, have set up a warm, welcoming, quiet place to lay your ski boots at night, and they are truly wonderful and gracious hosts. Spend some time in the great room/bar and get to know them; you will feel like you are staying in a friend's home. This is what an inn/bed & breakfast experience should be. This is not your typical ski lodge overrun with kids and college students. With your room rate, you are getting an immaculate room with a comfortable bed that is uniquely and thoughtfully outfitted. You are also getting a cozy, comfortable place to eat, sleep and unwind with free Wifi and a real, wood-burning fireplace. Oh, yes, and you are getting a full breakfast every morning (starting at 7:30am) of your stay, and it is a homemade, complete meal. We had stuffed French toast with bacon, veggie or ham and cheese quiche, and apple pancakes with sausage. Each morning's meal also includes fresh fruit (told you it was a complete meal!), your choice of three juices, and coffee or tea. We did decide to dine in the restaurant for dinner one night (not included in the room rate). While dinner is served in the same room as breakfast, they really manage to transform the space so it feels more like a fine-dining experience. The service is excellent, and the menu is well-inspired. I had trouble deciding what to order. I started with the potato and mushroom soup, which was good -- what you would expect from a potato soup. For my entree, I had the special seafood risotto, which included shrimp, mussels and lobster. It was delicious and satisfying; I had trouble finishing it all, even with a little help! The seafood was prepared very well, which is always a concern of mine. A nice glass of sauvignon blanc and some apple pie for dessert rounded out a hearty meal. I will say that this is not an inexpensive meal, and the pricing could stand to be rolled back a tiny bit, but you are supporting the local economy in a big way. I highly recommend a visit to the bar, which closes around 11pm. They have the coolest martini glasses -- just don't misplace your base, as Mary warns! If you're skiing, definitely chat up Marissa, the bartender. She knows the mountains in the area inside and out and back around. Mary and Bill can also give you some pointers on conditions and good trails to ski. I have two minor suggestions for improvement. First, there is no hot tub here, and with the secluded, beautiful location, it would be a nice addition to the back patio area (which was otherwise unused in the winter). Second, we stayed in room #3, which was lovely and very comfortable... except for the bathroom sink. It was so tiny, like something you would expect on a cruise ship! And that wouldn't be so bad, except there is a glass shelf right above it, which is nice for storage but terrible for using the sink to wash your face or brush your teeth. You just can't bend down over the sink at all. I would just suggest to move the shelf to the wall next to the sink to save a little frustration and mess. I will definitely return to Birch Ridge whenever I return to Killington. It is top-notch. read more

Of all the restaurants I have been to, this is by far the best. Who knew such a treasure was tucked away in Killington. Everything was absolutely perfect. We had a dinner for 2 and the dining room happened to be empty that night. We started with the chicken soup and who knew such a simply dish could be so surprisingly delicious. Then we had the pork chop and duckling breast. I have had duck before and there are so many ways to go wrong in preparing but this dish was PERFECT. Moist, tender, and flavorful. We finished with the creme brulee for dessert, which was fantastic since it wasn't overly sweet. Everything was wonderful down to the dinner rolls. I am not exaggerating when I say I wanted to carry out a barrel full of their dinner rolls and butter. This restaurant will give your taste buds an awakening they have never had before. You're missing out if you don't give this place a chance because this restaurant has set a completely new set of standards for us. read more

Hostess and server were very nice. Decor and atmosphere is quaint. Appetizers and small plates were good, we had baby arugula salad and an assortment of cheeses. The reason for the 3 star would be, filet came out medium, I ordered rare, this is fundamental. The other reason would be, there is a staging area for wine bottles, instead of leaving the bottle at the table, and the table next to us topped off a bunch of glasses with our bottle. This was not the servers fault as they took it upon themselves and I wasn't positive it was our bottle till our server grabbed the same one that had been used to top us off. We ended up getting a free extra glass, but that's after it was used to top off multiple glasses previously. Annoying to say the least. I asked he leave the bottle at the table after. We stayed here for four nights on a skiing trip to Killington and had a great time. The owners, Bill and Mary were so welcoming and helpful, with great local knowledge about the mountains and the weather, and they managed to get our car up their driveway after a particularly bad snowstorm for us! The rooms were very clean, and the communal areas really cosy. There is free wi-fi throughout the inn. They had pretty large bar area - but it was more like sitting in the living room of a friend's house. During the week the bar was pretty quiet, with only ourselves and another couple sitting with Bill and Mary, however at the weekend a few more people were there and they had hired a bartender rather than pour drinks themselves. The wine selection seemed great, and as we were staying a few nights, Mary was happy to let us keep our opened bottle of wine rather than be forced to drink it in one sitting (we didn't need to take her up on the offer suffice it to say!!) Breakfast was included in the rate and consisted of tea/coffee, fruit juice, warm muffins and sweet tasty breads followed by a hot entree which varied daily but was usually egg based but we did have waffles on Sunday! There was no choice of entree which might put off fussy breakfast eaters like myself, but on the whole the food was tasty and the baked goods really were delicious!! We also ate here for dinner on two of the evenings and the food was absolutely awesome - especially compared with where we ate in Killington the rest of the time (though to be honest, if the restaurant was in Boston I would definitely still choose to go there). Possibly not so good for vegetarians, but everything we ate was amazing (in particular the rack of lamb , the duck, the rolls served pre dinner, the crabcake... really all of it was good. ) It may be considered as expensive by some, but really it was no more costly than the wobbly barn steakhouse across the street. When we booked we got an offer to have a 3 course meal for $90 including gratuity (and gratuities were included in the overall price of the room). This was awesome value and I would recommend booking it at the time. The menu changes on a weekly (I think) basis, but unless you are vegetarian, I would certainly say that there was enough choice to eat here at least two or three nights in the week. The accommodation was pricier than some, though no more so at the time of booking than the killington mountain resort and I am sure that we got much more personal service at birch ridge. We would love to come back when we are skiing for a longer time, but the price might just squeeze us out if we are looking to go to killington for a cheap and cheerful weekend of winter fun. We chose Birch Ridge after reading a few other YELP reviews. It is a winner! We were a little tentative as we arrived for a Saturday night dinner; there was only one other couple eating. Also, the place was rather dark, making the menue hard to read. We had great service from an attentive and knowledgeable wait person. We had roasted tomato/pepper soup, BBQ shrimp, chicken Caesar salad, and grilled filet. It was all excellent, fresh, and hand-made. My filet was perfectly cooked! Plus the chef was pleased that i ordered the filet rare/medium-rare; we agree it's the best temperature for filet. The final delight was dessert. I made have had the best creme brulle ever! A warm, delicious and delightful experience - the staff are so friendly they make you feel at home immediately. The food is amazing - fall-off-the-bone lamb, scrumptious gravy and potatoes, a tantalizing charcuterie board. And the interior is as cozy as can be - high ceilings and open windows, comfy chairs and a warm fireplace. After our meal we moved to the couches where they brought us some desserts - delicious. I came to this place on a golf package that they offer. From the time we drove in through the covered bridge that's there to help guests go up the steep drive to the inn in the snow, to the farewell dinner three days later, we were treated with easy friendliness and made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The place has the feel of bed and breakfast and yes the breakfasts are wonderful. Serve dinner Tuesday through Saturday night and the little restaurant - seven tables - is impeccably European gourmet. I don't know whether the feel here is Austrian or Swiss, but it sure feels nice. My favorite restaurant got flooded out and the Birch Ridge Inn was recommended. I ate in the bar but it wasn't like eating in a bar. it was more like being a guest in Mike and Mary's home. I was welcomed by both. By the time I left it felt as though we were friends. I had a salmon dish. Very nicely prepared and presented though I thought slightly over cooked. While I was generally very pleased with the meal, I wasn't blown away as I feel I would have been at my first choice. But this meal was nearly half the price at $70.00 tax and tip included. Wow, this place is a gem! I went here for dinner with my husband and it was a fabulous experience. The Inn's restaurant is worth a visit even if you're not staying overnight. It was a plus to find out that much of the menu is locally sourced with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. That tells me the Executive Chef really cares about the ingredients and the "bigger picture" of where our food comes from. Many different flavors and textures are represented on the menu. However, there are classic offerings that provide a "comfort food" appeal. Standouts for me were the seared scallops over a beet puree (so pretty!), the lamb loin chops, and the Hokey Pokey dessert. Each dish was expertly prepared, as if a gift from the chef. Also noticeable was how the food was presented--very artfully! I can't wait to go back and try more. I think the menu will be adjusted as the seasons change, so it's exciting to think about what else this chef will think up! read more

The food here is wonderful! We ate dinner here at the end of the 2014-15 ski season, so the menu was different from now (I think it changes each season), but everything was high quality. The pork loin was perfectly cooked, very juicy, not over-seasoned. The mushroom tart was crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, I had to order another one. The salad was very fresh. This Inn has a gourmet restaurant. The present chef has been there for about 2 years. Primarily locally sourced ingredients and ecologically aware, it was a lively evening made even better by the astute attentiveness of the server, Sally. An ideal getaway with a challenging drive up the road for outlanders which the owners are happy to help you.The owners are engaging and present. The blackened scallops were delicious, ; blackened on one side , cool in the center and spiced well. The wine list was excellent with decent pricing though I was momentarily surprised when my Prosecco was poured from an individual serving screw top bottle- but it tasted just fine. I happily saw an Old Vine being served at a per glass affordable price. The mains ranged between about $28-40, appetizers, soups, salads, and desserts hovered between 10-12 $. The menu changes constantly with nightly specials so it's impossible to become bored. The server was natural and the lack of defensiveness was extremely pleasant. If I were to nitpick it could be argued due more to my personal preferences such as a lighter reduction or use of the bourbon with the venison tips, lighter spice on the halibut but the execution was perfect. For the complimentary guest breakfast, I would perhaps have hoped for a bit more as it was hyped up to me before I stayed as a must. The coffee choice was brewed and attention given to preferences of milk or cream. The zucchini coconut bread and blueberry muffins brought warm and scrumptious. My singular issues were that none of the juice choices were fresh squeezed ( which can actually be more economical), the main was another carbohydrate of pancakes with bacon( which looked wonderful but I declined) with no option of eggs mentioned( though boxes cereals and oatmeal were). The only concerns with the room were the heating took over 3 hours to rise from a setting of 63 f to 69 f and the beautiful bathroom floor was very very cold to the feet, but to be fair I didn't mention it to the hoteliers I highly recommend a stay here and definitely try the restaurant.i will be back for certain! read more

Regarding Dining Experience - Go for special occasions, since it's so special. So not pretentious but oh so elegant !! All to perfection. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Birch Ridge Inn for MLK weekend, and we had a wonderful time. The Inn is very cozy, and Bill and Mary are extremely good hosts who ensure that their guests have everything they need. It really is a mix between a bread & breakfast and a larger Inn where you have all the privacy you want. We especially loved having the home-cooked breakfast every morning, with a basket of freshly baked bread and Mary coming to your table every 15 minutes to refill your cup of steaming hot coffee. Definitely book straight through the Inn because it's cheaper than going through the Killington Reservation website. Also, don't worry that there's a small drive to the slopes, since parking is free! read more

The ambiance is what makes this place lovely, and I would go back for that. The food was good, but I think slightly over priced. We started with the baked bried, which was good but it didn't taste like a high quality brie. We next had the gumbo which was good and spicy but a pretty small portion. Outstanding Inn. My wife and I have stayed here regularly since a friend recommended the place to us about 4 years ago. I think our favorite part is the focus on adults and couples. The Innkeepers, Bill and Mary, are warm and friendly, and have a wealth of info on local activities. Great accommodations for the adult crowd. The rooms are comfortable and inviting. The restaurant is one of the very few places you can go to on the access road for a quiet, upscale dinner. My wife and I recently had the duck and filet meals, and both were very good. Mary's breakfasts and afternoon fresh-baked cookies are always fabulous. Of course, fine dining, comfortable accommodations, delicious breakfasts and warm cookies are just part of the story at Birch Ridge Inn. The cozy lounge area has a nice fireplace, a great bartender (Marissa), and usually a pretty good mix of guests and locals. Beware, though, many a skier's first chair aspirations have melted like ice in a glass of bourbon as a result of late nights at the bar with Bill and Marissa! read more
