Loaded nachos - $9 as of 9/19. Unfortunately it wasn't layered well so all the toppings were... only on the top.

Came here with some friends on a Friday evening. Parking after 6 was plentiful for me near the pub since the meters run until 6pm. This review pertains to the food only. They updated this place since I was here last and I do agree with the other reviewers that it lost a lot of its charm in the process. Menu is very simple and sparse though the price is reasonable (at the cost of some quality unfortunately). Ordering was done exclusively through a touch screen for food. It's cumbersome and I would advise to research beforehand what you want because the line can get long. Seating is a free for all and on a Friday night it was only by sheer luck that me and my 3 friends were able to get one. Items that I tried: Fried chicken sandwich - $9 as of 9/19. One word... dry. No sign of any brine used for the chicken. It was dry and very tough to chew. Would not recommend. Tot-Chos - $9 as of 9/19. It's tater tots. Nothing special but at least it was palatable. Loaded Nachos - $9 as of 9/19. Again this was average. It wasn't layered very well so the chips on the bottom had nothing on them. Chips were unsalted and very plain tasting. This being a university pub it was obviously filled with students. It was LOUD in there so forget having a audible conversation with anyone that's not immediately next to you. Also there wasn't anyone I could see that would clean the tables up so expect to clean up the table you want if the previous party didn't bother. Overall I feel that while a bit nostalgic I guess my age is showing because I found the experience too noisy, too crowded, too messy and just overall blah.

Overall, a nice spot. Decently priced food and drinks. They mostly provide sandwiches and salads. It was recently renovated, and the current menu is fairly limited compared to its offering prior to the renovation. The renovation really improved the inside space, though. They enlarged the seating area, and there's plenty of natural light due to the windows overlooking the Charles. It lost a bit of its underground charm - the new space is a bit sterile. But happy for more seating. You can order your food at a kiosk, which is a cool addition. Drinks all have to be ordered at the bar, though. There are TVs, but mostly in the cramped bar area, so not a great spot to watch a game. Good hang out for friends though.

Boston's best kept secret! What a great space inside and out. I love that you can view the Charles from the outside patio. The man at the bar was very helpful! I'd like to see what this place looks and feels like packed. It was pretty much empty when I was there. I'm so glad I know about this place and that as a BU masters student, I can visit whenever I want... too bad I'm in So Cal. I will have to go again sometime!

BU Students are so lucky they have this gem on campus. The sandwiches here are delicious and cheap. They have fun sandwiches named after different professions, or you have the option of making your own sandwich. They have a ton of breads, meats, toppings to choose from. You also get a side of chips or pretzels with your sandwich. The bar selection here is pretty fantastic. They have so many bottled beers and beers on tap that they created the Knights Quest. People who try all the beers they have at the bar are "knighted." Plus the beer here is SO CHEAP. Extra brownie points for that! Seating can be limited sometimes. The line for beer can get kinda long, and there is usually only one guy behind the bar. The sandwiches can take a while, but they are totally worth the wait. I love the look and the charm of this place. It's definitely one of my favorite spots in Boston.

Another great choice while in Boston for my mom who loves burgers! This was a last-minute decision,…read morebut I read reviews and decided to stop in for lunch. Unfortunately we did not book a reservation, so seating was either at the bar or outside. We found a two-seater at the bar and all was well. We ordered salt and pepper wings and BPH burgers for lunch. The food came out piping hot, the wings were seasoned just right and the burger was better than the "GR" burger we had on our first day. As for the ambience, it started off with a few patrons, but soon we noticed seats filling and understood why the hostess said "i know It looks empty now, but we have those tables reserved'" an unnecessary statement, but I guess she saw us looking around when she mentioned bar seating. Def give this place a try! It's going on my Boston Eats list if I'm ever visiting again.

Great meal to end the upper US marathon vacation!!…read more We had no idea where we may end up eating but the trusty Yelp app led us to another victory dance!! Yay for Yelp!! We had just cruised the nearby mall center thingy and were hungry on our last night in Boston. We saw the sites and did the things. Boston is a one of a kind place for sure. This was the choice. It was a great choice! Beautifully decorated and oh so chill inside. We have a thing that we do at places with great appetizers. We just order a bunch of those and feast. That's what we did here! We started with some raw oysters. They were very nice indeed. Island Creek Oysters from Duxbury MA. is where they came from. We love the little local Junts a lot and had them all over the northeast while we were there. We also had Crab Rangoon Dip. Very good, lots of fresh lump crabmeat, with a house chili crisp, scallions, and wonton chips. Loved it! They we had some fantastic mussels to close the deal! The flavor was amazing! I wish I could have them every single day! We also had a bowl of BPH Clam Chowder. CC is one of my favorite things and this place did not disappoint in any way! Delicious!! The server was great. She took great care and made our last night in Boston an unforgettable experience. If you are near, you should go right now! Why aren't you there yet? '26 - 108

My order: 1 chicken taco, 1 grilled fish taco, 3 carnitas tacos…read more The Review: Five horses tavern has a lot of gluten free options, which is very inclusive for a bar/tavern! The server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The tacos were pretty good, but if you're a taco maven, don't get them. To be honest, the fish taco had too much Mayo/sauce on it. They each came with two corn tortillas, which were a little stuck together as if microwaved. It was definitely my mistake because they are definitely not a Mexican restaurant. I would be interested in their salmon dish, as well as their bowls. Four stars for good options (gf included), good portion size, and good vibes. Will definitely be returning to try more!

Five Horses accommodated us very quickly without a reservation, which we appreciated so much! There was something on the menu for everyone, we all opted for sandwiches and pasta dishes. The crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer blew us all away, as did the cocktails. I had a delicious raspberry Benito, and my cousin's blackberry crush was so good as well. Everything was delivered fast, and it was the perfect amount of food for us all. My only thing was that the "crispy fries" side dish was not very crispy - a thinner version of steak/wedge fries that I personally am not a fan of. I liked that these were thinner, but I was expecting a crunch. That's not going to turn me away from coming back and I will be recommending this place to others! I can't wait to show my friends.
