After a beautiful day out and about, my wife decided to continue our time with dinner outside at The Boathouse but I forgot that means looking at the very tight parking lot. As for the meal, Fried Calamari app was great, my wife's crabcakes were excellent, my clams po-boy was terrible. It was just bunch of over done fried clams on roll with no dressing on the bread... really disappointing given the other dinner elements. Service also has a lot to be desire. Great location, right on the Hudson next to a marina! You can watch the sunset, and catch a glimpse of some fish jumping. However, service is slow. We were never asked if we would like a beverage the entire meal, and was never offered bread. We finally asked for water when we asked for the check. our server did not check up on the table after any dish. Food could be a lot better. The shrimp Po boys, and lobster roll were ok. If you want a value order, order the lisa Marie, it's a big bowl of Mac and cheese mixed with chicken and sliced hot peppers. This dish can also be an served as an appetizer. Came here for the first time with a girlfriend. Overall we thought this was an awesome spot on a nice day for lunch or evening for dinner... Pros: House dressing was awesome (as recommended by the waitress), my friend's fries looked crispy and delicious, she really enjoyed the California wrap, bubba gump Bloody Mary came with 2 grilled shrimp great Bloody Mary; I asked for it to be made spicy and it came out great. We also got a bottle of rose for the table which was excellent! And such a pretty bottle which was left on the table for us in a bottle holder... just the way I like it. They have tables both in and out of the sun so everyone is comfortable. Cons: The building where the restaurant is isn't exactly on the water, you're set back in a parking lot. Unfortunately my friend and I showed up too early so the back beach bar wasn't opened. The kitchen forgot an ingredient on my salad, although when I told the server she quickly went and got it. The chairs outside are nice looking but uncomfortable if you have shorts or a dress, our waitress was great but all the sudden disappeared and we had a male server after that, he was nice too but as a server myself you always let your table know you're heading out and ______ will be your new server. Boathouse has a great environment and consistently good food. All of the servers are very friendly and professional. The view is amazing and the back patio is the best spot to watch sun sets in the summer time. Very cozy feeling inside. Came for lunch. Food was not good. Crab cake was not fresh. No flavor and it was mushy. My wife's food wasn't very good either. We sat outside and it was dirty. Wednesday for lunch at 1230 and there were cigarette butts all over the patio floor. This wasn't lunch after a Friday or Saturday night. Either way no reason for the owner not to make sure their restaurant is clean. Outside dinning tables were also filthy. Old food and crumbs stuck under the glass tables. The house wine was in a small glass, 1/2 filled, and tasted like it was from a $6.00 bottle. The service was odd, we walked in and were ignored for a bit, then a guy stepped from a bar stool wearing a t-shirt (that did not specify boathouse) and shorts asked how many. I asked to sit outside and it was like they didn't want us to, they were dissuading us when it was a warm evening and the sunset was going to be spectacular which it was. We ordered and as the food came and we were halfway finished, bread was delivered to the table! My tuna salad was not impressive. The mandarin oranges tasted like they came straight from the can, the tuna was dry but cooked rare the way I like it, the spinach was dull, it just looked very cheap for the $18 price point. Ok ... So I am not from the Ossining area , I'm a New York City girl. Let me tell you my experience. First I will say this is a nice venue it is located near the Hudson by the marina and it is a wonderful and pleasant sight to see. My girlfriend and I went to this venue, she is from Harmon. Anyway , on my visit I ordered a salad with chicken for 12 bucks and two glasses of wine which was nine dollars each therefore, my bill was $30.00 with tax $32. 84. I gave a 15% tip at $4.00 making my bill $ 36.84. To my surprise when I logged into my bank account I was actually charged $47 instead of the $36.84. I had my original receipt which And I contacted the venue and shortly after I contacted my bank because there was no one available to speak to me at the boathouse. My bank filed a claim for the amount as I explained to them what the charge should have been versus what they charged me. Shortly after I received a call from a woman named Loreen Who checked the check number and confirm that my bill was the right amount and that I left a $15 tip which was not the case because there was no one at the venue when we went since it was so early after work and the way they do and have to do much with one salad and two glasses of wine. The woman had been the. Nerve to tell me that the staff gets huge tips so they assume I left a $14 tip I explained to her that I've already contacted my bank so by this time it was not necessary for me to speak with her though she tried to argue that there was a one in front of the number and I changed a digit I made the check more than what it was. She told me that I should proceed with contacting my bank therefore I would never ever visit this venue again I would pay attention to my bill and what's actually charged once your credit card processes!!!! Never ever again would I come to this crooked dishonest establishment , by the way, the salad was dry with a limited amount of dressing!!! For the woman Loreen to tell me it is difficult to read the tip is absurd because the total said $36.00 not $47.00 so please tell that to a dummy who is use to getting taken advantage of! Sorry, but, my mother did NOT raise no fools!!!! Once I saw the TOTAL then It would of been clear to assume what the tip was... Either way it doesn't matter , my money or present isn't needed or wanted at this establishment! And I am not reluctant to revisiting!!! Love the bartenders, and the servers. To bad the chef is a jerk he was really rude and just killed it for us for the whole summer! I guess our money and opinions don't matter! Normally you can only judge a chef by the food which comes out of the kitchen, but not in this case. My friends and I pulled up in two boats. We ordered a few rounds from the outdoor tiki bar. Though we didn't like the FOOD the last time we ate at the boathouse based on the quality of the service, we were debating giving it a third chance. Well three strikes and your out didn't even happen the Chef came out and hit us with the pitch! As I mentioned we had been getting great drinks from the outdoor bartender (nice guy by the way), and the Chef who gave us all food poisoning the last time we ate there (don't order the lobster mac and cheese) comes outside. He proceeded to tell us that the boat docking was for paying customers of the restaurant only... Apparently buying several rounds at the bar is not good enough! So in discussion, we asked what the profit margin for a meal was? He stated "if your NOT eating you shouldn't be here"... Sadly, not too many places along the Hudson where a Dude might stop for some food and drink. From the first person we met, the valet, to the hostess who squeezed us in to a table sans reservation on a gorgeous sunset Friday afternoon, to Jessica our waitress and the surrounding ensemble, we had a fabulous time. I'd offer a five star since today is all about writing reviews on places that inspired and offered Dude and Mrs. Dude a respite from the hot sun and the bustle of road tripping. The portions of food were well balanced and ample. The ginger sesame sauce on the scallops delightful. Slightly overcooked whilst the asparagus was mos def too well done. Garlic mashed flavorful but needed to be a bit creamier. Looked like they had been sitting for a bit. If you label something po boy, it needs all the fixings of a true po boy. Otherwise it's just a fried clam roll. Clams were delicious. Fries tasted like home made, seasoned well and perfectly crispy and tender. We'll be back. It got hopping as we departed. 2 stars for beautiful location and good service. As for the food, the food was not that good. I had my first lobster roll here and I will not be trying a lobster roll anywhere else. I didn't like it. The crab stuffed avocado is $14 but you get half a haas avocado removed from it's skin but the crab is in the skin. My margarita was watered down. The french fries that came with my lobster roll were good though. We loved the view, however, that is not enough to make us want to go back. At least we can say we tried it. read more

I actually found the Boathouse based on other Yelp reviews. New to the Ossining area, we searched out area's with high ratings. The Boathouse is a great little find, and is right on the Hudson down the way from the train station and Sing Sing housed in the Yacht Club. I had the lunch special - the Duck and Mango salad and my dining companion had the grilled vegetable wrap. Both were very well prepared. We were dissappointed because we asked to substitute out our fries with macaroni and cheese, (which they declined); but all in all it was a great meal. So if you came for the 'glamorous view', turn yourself around and head down to Harvest on Hudson or some place with a real view. Ok, so the view is a joke...how about the food? Can you say 'overpriced meh' three times fast? Alright, well how about the service? You mean the servers who stand around sizing you up from afar but don't actually invite you to have a seat? Well, what about the chef/owner? I don't know. I never met him. But if he was rude to my friend Keith -- who just might be the nicest guy on the face of the Earth -- he probably deserves to rot eternally in a Sing Sing prison cell with a view of a bunch of dry docked boats and get served meh food in exchange for a pack of smokes. The Boathouse will remind you of a Seaside Jersey Shore hangout for adults without the madness. On a fine comfortable afternoon we ventured with friends to the patio / deck area where the views of yachts on the water horizon defined comfort. The live summer music from a young jazz performer was a perfect compliment to the setting. As for the food: This isn't fine dining here - but it doesn't have to be. Everyone found their assorted burgers / salads acceptable...once we finally received them. The Boathouse has a serious service issue by its patio area. Once seated our waiter simply never came by. After 40 minutes or so we practically "mugged" him to get his attention. After finally taking our orders we were then advised that drinks had to be purchased at the yacht shaped bar. This should've been mentioned upon seating. (Note: Greatly unique - the yacht bar is a nice added touch) Upon food arrival we found two orders missing. A guest from another table comes by - "Anyone order Tuna?". Bingo - "That's mine" I say. (Note 2: All deck orders are received in a closed Styrofoam container ). It turns out the 2nd missing order was also given to another who - probably starving - decided to take anything given and devour it. Needles to say - another 1/2 hour - the last order was finally received. The Boathouse has a lot to offer however a few things do need to be corrected. My wife and I and various friends have eaten here easily over 100 times over the years. Too many good times to list. They do great burgers and tuna steaks and wraps and salads, lobster rolls and so on. We sometimes get tired of the menu which hasn't changed much in years, but we do have our favorites. They also often have specials. Some of the appetizers will change seasonally and the offerings can be quite good. What makes this place really special is the ambiance and the staff. The overall vibe of the place is great, being in a quaint little building near the water though it's unfortunate to have a parking lot between you and the water. Most of the servers are outstanding, always smiling and making each meal special. We usually feel very relaxed while we're there. They have a nice little patio outside and when temps are not super hot we love to eat out there. They also have a really neat outdoor bar made of an actual sailboat, on the land but at the edge of the water. What a nice place to enjoy some drinks and oysters and watch the sun set over the Hudson. Cons: The indoor bar crowd can get pretty loud and obnoxious. The acoustics of the dining room cause it to get extremely noisy even when it's not full. On any nice summer evening the place is PACKED inside and out. In the colder months they have a hard time keeping the interior at a comfortably warm temperature. Nevertheless, the colder months are a good time to have some quieter/romantic meals when the crowds are gone. Overall we like it and we keep going back. It's kind of a local gem and there are really hardly any good restaurants in Ossining so we're grateful that it's there. read more

Despite the fact that NY passed a law in 2017 and despite the fact that we were the ONLY patrons sitting in the outdoor seating, this restaurant owner decided that our choice was to leave our dog in the car on this sweltering 90 degree day or take our business elsewhere. Really? A dead empty restaurant that we have set there 20 times before with the dog and you would choose to not take our $150 for lunch - so we took our business elsewhere. 3 Stars from us. I was down and out for a week and unable to eat, leave the house, etc, so needless to say by Sunday I was craving real food and some out of the house time. I also had a hankering for fried clams. Service was efficient and pleasant (opted to sit inside) and food was okay. My husband's burger was most likely from a pre-formed frozen patty and I'm pretty sure the clam strips were frozen too. None the less, everything was cooked/fried well and it satiated my hankering until we head to the Cape in July. You could see the water/boats from where we sat and the cute bar beyond the parking lot seemed nice as well. A live band was gearing up to start but we opted not to stay. They do charge for soda refills, so beware of that. 4 sodas adds up quickly and it's just ridiculous to charge for refills in my opinion. read more

This place is quaint, terrific million dollar view, nice people, good food (ok it's not gourmet 5 star) but remember you're in Ossining, NY right next to Sing Sing where shit on a shingle is the meal of the day! Myself and a couple friends stopped in for a bite before the pumpkin blaze yesterday evening and had a great time :) I had the French onion soup which was delicious, one friend had the Shepard's pie which was also great and my other friend had the crab cake sandwich that she said was good too. The food was good but the service was even better. We had an amazing server - wish I got his name... he was wearing a raiders shirt I think... he was so sweet and attentive we kept bringing up for the rest of the night how great we thought he was and how he has such a kind and lovely energy The Boathouse is really lucky to have him! I've been on a mission to find food with a water view in Westchester/Fairfield. It's kind of a fun mission, but usually pretty expensive. I remember reading a review of the Boathouse that mentioned it would perfect for a summer evening and tonight I tried it out. Though not cheap, the menu was reasonable for the entrees (all below $25) and there were several wraps and burger fare, as well. I went for the seafood, including amazing clams casino!!!, their Shrimp Luciano with risotto, and crab salad in avocado shells. All was fresh and terrific. There was a good selection of wines from the glass and an obscene carrot-cheesecake for dessert. The service was friendly and relaxed and the setting is as beautiful as everyone here has described. Set in a yacht club, the modest restaurant is completely unpretentious, though. And, a Sunday dinner on the patio while the sun sets across the river is indeed a fairly perfect summer evening. read more

It's really a 2.5- I don't think two is fair, but "A-OK" is not really accurate. I brought my family here last year for mother's day. We had a great time, but I had forgotten that we waited over an hour for a table we had reserved. Granted they were extremely crowded and busy last year, and I had made the reservation last minute. I expected there to be some wait. I really enjoyed my time there, and the food was decent. This year, I called several days in advance for a 7pm reservation. I had a slightly larger party of eight this time and did not want to have the same experience of sitting in the bar area in excess of an hour. We sat in the bar area for 35 minutes. It was not until I said something, that I was acknowledged and informed that It would be a few more minutes. There were two staff members helping our table. One was pleasant, affable and made our experience okay. The other was rude and abrasive. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. My meal was not really cooked as I had requested, but I guess I could have sent it back if I was really that put off by it. Probably going to choose a different restaurant next year. read more

No bread plates no share plates for our appetizers water glass constantly empty. Although we asked our waiter Dan for plates he never brought them. Dan our waiter asked if we were finished with our meals we said yes but wanted my daughters dish wrapped up. He said he would bring a box and we can do it our selves. He drops of the to go box and our CHECK. We never even asked for the check. How incredibly rude and unprofessional. He never even asked if we wanted dessert. We all did save room since it was a special occasion. He ruined our night. And when I asked for the manager the host said that would be her. Nothing was said or done and I left so disappointed. The service was okay. The food was disappointing, especially since the prices are high. The prices seem to reflect a great waterfront view, but there really is very little view. The stuffed mushrooms were excessively oily. The fried clams in the clam po'boy had so much batter of them you could barely find or taste the clams and the bread was huge. The sautéed soft shell crab ($30) was drenched in butter and otherwise flavorless. In addition to the lack of flavor, I was unhappy with how unhealthy everything was. Very nice little place in a not so easy location in Ossining. Bartender was very friendly, attentive and helpful, drinks were well prepared, reasonably priced and well made. Food was very good, above average for sure. I had a fried shrimp dish with risotto that was very good, extremely rich but that was to be expected. Fried calamari was pretty good. Our waiter was not great. He was very friendly and brought our food out fine and was helpful in taking our order, but he was not attentive at a all during our meal. I had a drink from the bar when we sat down, but my wife did not. He never asked us if we wanted drinks. My wife asked for a coke and he never brought it. She asked again and he finally brought the drink but we sat there with empty drinks for the majority of our meal. Overall the experience was good, but would be a 4-5 star dinner if the waitstaff was more attentive. The boathouse is not cheap and they should be treating their diners as such. They may have been too busy or understaffed, or our waiter may have been new, so I will definitely be visiting the again. read more

Since my last review was written a very long time ago, and we've been numerous times since, it's only fair to make an update! I'm almost always happy with the food these days, especially the spicy mountain of deliciousness that is the Angry Val pasta - I generally have to carry half it home as the portions are massive, but I'm just delighted to be able to keep on eating it later :) Knocking off one star for the fact that they use dried, rather than fresh pasta (though at least they don't claim that their pastas and spaghetti are made fresh), and for the fact that some entrees are still way overpriced for what you get - it can be a very expensive meal out! However, service is generally quick, efficient and friendly, the ambiance is great, and on a warm summer's evening absolutely *nothing* beats relaxing with a cool beer on the patio or at the cute boat-bar on the pier, watching the sun set over the glittering waters of the Hudson... :) Our favorite restaurant in Ossining! read more

It's all about "location, location, location!" I want to clearly convey that I have only been once & only for cocktails/dessert. We docked a friends boat (very convenient/nice option if you are out on the Hudson) for cocktails/dessert. A view of the water (Hudson River) while dining al fresco is always nice. I like the paper lanterns & the container gardens & candles- romantic & relaxed. A mixed crowd. It was busy. The bartender was slow/confused (not good on a Saturday nite!). The hostess was very nice/accommodating. We had to wait for a table outside but she was most helpful. Espresso was hot & yummy. The raspberry almond tort was good as was the rich peanut-butter pie. But the chocolate raspberry crepes were dry , not fluffy & they skimped on the Nutella & over did it with the raspberry drizzle. I have had wonderful crepes in my life- and these didn't even come close- avoid! We were told by the hostess that they had recently lost their pastry chef. It showed- how unfortunate. read more

My family and i had lunch yesterday at The Boathouse. it was the worst dining experience we have had in a number of years. The fish taco was a flaked fish thrown on tortillas, It had no resemblance to any fish taco we had ever served at other restaurants. The clam strip po' boy was a bigger joke, fried clams on a bun, no lettuce , no tomatoes, nor any type of sauce. i think the clam strips were frozen. Truth be told, when I think Ossining riverfront, I think of the sketchy train station and Sing Sing, not a cute restaurant tucked away in the Shattemuc Yacht Club. But The Boathouse was an excellent surprise - Jen F. (my sister and fellow Yelper) and I got dinner here as we didn't want to venture too far from home. Because the restaurant overlooks the Hudson, this would be the perfect place to dine during the summer around sundown. In the winter, the glass makes the place downright cold. The service was very friendly, from the moment we walked in to the moment we got our check. Our waiter kept the bread coming - which was so warm and fluffy - we must have eaten about two loaves! Both of us ordered from the specials of the day - I had the Lobster Risotto and my sister had the sesame tuna over salad. I was a little bit disappointed with my risotto - there wasn't as much lobster as I had envisioned and the consistency was a bit soupy. Jen's tuna was cooked to perfection though, it was so good. For dessert, we shared a chocolate cake which was most likely outsourced and not prepared in their kitchen. It was okay, but not something I'd typically eat though. I should have more to say. It's been nearly a week. Basically, we LOVED it and I almost don't want everyone to know about it. But i don't want them to go out of business either. Tenuous affair. Awesome location. Heck, I almost felt like I was on vacation. Why aren't there more lovely restaurant locales like this along the Hudson River in Westchester? This one was excellent, unassuming, local, low key. Food. I'm watching my diet so I had soup and a nice salad. The soup... okay not diet fare: a bowl of NE clam chowder: OMG spectacular! Husband says maybe best he's ever had. I can't argue. I wont rave about my salad (it was a salad after all and although it did have avocado and crab and stuff nothing to write home about but good), but the duck breast special my husband had was SPECTACULAR!!! On Easter Sunday my husband and I decided we really wanted lamb for dinner tonight. We had a wonderful meal at the Boat House. We had eaten here once before and had enjoyed it. My lamb was very, very good. My husband's chicken dish was also very good. We skipped the appetizer but enjoyed the little loaf of crusty bread that was delivered warm to our table. For desert I had a delicious bread pudding with cranberries. Hubby had a "chocolate bomb" that he thought was very good, if a little rich. The coffee he ordered was so slow in coming we cancelled it when we asked for the check. (They forgot to take it off the check.) Apart from that the service was very good, very welcoming. The ambience is not the greatest. The part of the restaurant that we were in was small and the acoustics were loud. We were unfortunately seated next to a party of 6 who were very loud and it detracted from our experience. All in all a good experience - we thought the prices were good for what we got. I would eat there again. I like that they have outside seating for when the weather is nicer and the burgers we saw being delivered to another table were huge and looked good read more
