Just used The BMW Guy for the first time after obtaining a bid from the BMW dealership in Carlsbad to repair an oil leak. I brought our car in for a 2nd opinion & ultimately found out that the BMW dealership mis-diagnosed the source of the leak. I don't know if the BMW dealership would have ever come clean after working on the car. However, I can confirm that the cost to repair what The BMW Guy found/repaired was about 1/5th of what we were quoted by BMW of Carlsbad to repair what they claimed needed to be done to repair the leak. Well, most places would charge you hourly these guys kept working on it until they knew what the problem was and then just charged me for the time to fix it. To anyone reading: and honest review I have been to the bmw guy a couple of times but I highly recommend this place to take your bmw to for repairs and for advice. See why below: 1. The customer service and transparency is unlike other places I have been too. Most of us growing up have heard the line it's hard to find an honest mechanic. It's true that mechanics and auto places are business and to make money. However, Alfred is a genius with his skills sets and knowledge and has a staff that all feel like they know what's up and treat customers with the golden rule. 2. The owner of the shop spends the time to talk to you and explains things in a simple manner. I don't feel like I am being talked down to or that he is using mechanics terminology to upsell me. From my experience with taking to the owner a few times. He's genuine and knowledgeable but also humble. I believe he is a great person to work with on your car issues. 3. His mechanics and staff are all on the same page. They all seem to know pricing, they talk to you like a human and a value customer. Remember how that felt like to be appreciated as someone who is spending your money on their business? Customer service again is top notch. 4. Time: they dont waste time. You set appointment. You show up give keys and they work on it right away. They know how long something is going to take via labor and you can either stay in the nice waiting area or go on with your day. You don't have Toney about the car taking longer then what they advise you off. 5. Technology. They take photos of everything. They explained new suggestions for issues you may not be aware of and show you in person and send you copies of invoices, photos, estimates, etc. so theoretically if you needed a second opinion you could validate the cost and service. They text or email you copies of thugs you may need for future repairs and have all the costs put upfront. 6. There are certain thugs they don't do. And the he's part is that they tell you. They don't try to just do the work because they want the business. They focus on what they are good at and can refer you somewhere else if they can't perform it to their standards. Side note: Colin was awesome. Andre has always been great and Alfred is the real deal. I was impressed by the team as soon as I met them the first time I brought in vehiclenpreviously. I took my car to the BMW Guy to get it diagnosed. The car had smoke coming out from the hood. Alfredo was able to pinpoint what the problem was. Also, he was very kind and honest. He informed me that the broken parts were still under warranty. This repair could have cost me a lot of money. Most shops would have given me an estimate and tried to sell the repairs instead of letting me know about the warranty. Alfredo, Andrew, and Colin were very friendly, honest, and professional. Horrid customer service. Owner has a temper problem and should not be in the luxury car repair business. I don't trust this shop to do repairs correctly the first visit. I've been coming to this shop since I purchased my BMW Z4. They have done excellent work on my car in the past, hence why I returned for additional repairs as a loyal customer. I brought my car in for a simple fix, my passenger door would not unlock. I left my car with them overnight, and picked up my vehicle during my lunch break the next day. I didn't try to unlock my door until after work that day, the same problem persisted. I called the shop and told them the door still wouldn't unlock. The phone was handed to Alfredo (owner), who had worked on my car. He started arguing with me telling me that the problem with the door was "intermittent" and "couldn't have been fixed the first time." He then began to explain how it worked for him flawlessly in his shop, and that my experience is irrelevant to what he saw before the car left his shop. He proceeded to explain what he replaced in my door, being extremely condescending and making me feel incompetent that the door wasn't working (as if it was my fault). This is a BMW, not a Toyota or a Honda. I don't care about how much the repair costs, I want the repair done correctly the FIRST time. It costs me more money to take time out of my day to go to the shop over and over. Instead of handling the situation professionally, and putting the customer first, Alfredo chose to argue, disagree, and not take my experience into account. I will not be returning to this shop based off the owners awful temper. Andrew, the manager of the shop, was extremely understanding and willing to work with me going forward. The problem is, he doesn't own the shop. Andrew even mentioned to me that the owner has an anger problem. This kind of treatment doesn't belong in the BMW business. I'm going to take my car to the dealership going forward, and be treated with respect and kindness. I know and TRUST that BMW in Carlsbad will fix the issue the FIRST time, and not give me a giant headache when something goes wrong. The BMW Guy may be a good mechanic, but if something goes wrong or you're not satisfied, they fundamentally lack in customer service and customer retention. These guys are absolutely incredible! My BMW had an oil leak. I texted the number on their website for an appointment and very quickly received a response. I had an appointment the next day. I dropped my car off in the morning and not long later received a text with a picture of the estimate. Then Alfredo called to explain in more detail. They also recommended other repairs that I said I could do and applied zero pressure. They sent videos as they did the work and kept me up to date. I picked up my car and everything looked great. My 2015 M4 (33,000 miles) experienced the worst issue from my perspective, as my electrical system just died. It took a new battery and a FEM unit that manages the charge from the battery and distributes it to the car. 1) The BMW guys came to my house to install the battery with the intent to save me towing charges. 2) unfortunately the car didn't start and needed to be towed to the shop. It turned out I needed a part that came directly from the BMW Factory from Europe. It took 3+ months before the part came in. The BMW guys thru this time stayed on top of the suppliers every week looking for status as they kept me statused. When they finally rec'd and installed the part, and delivered to me the car worked like it was brand new. Takeaway - The BMW Guys are the real thing, Quality of Service (BMW certified mechanics), Transparency, Friendliness, Honest, Fair pricing. Alfredo,could be a good mechanic I can only base that on other reviews that I read here. To me personally he gave the runaround and I never had the opportunity to let him service my car. I drove over an hour to see him, he examined my car and told me he's very , very busy and will get back to me with a price quote within one or two days. Few days later when I received nothing from him I texted him and he ignored my text requesting the price quote. Now a week later (Sorry, six days later) I texted him again told him I still receive nothing and I intend to write this review on Yelp. Within few minutes he got back to me ,and told me he's apologizing and he's very busy. Reliability is everything in life and in business life, if I cannot trust someone to do something so basic as sending a price quote, how can I trust them taking care of my car? My car had a loud annoying rattle and I was worried it was cost me a fortune to diagnose and fix. I canceled my appointment with the dealership and took my '09 X5 to Alfredo. What kind of mechanic is this knowledgeable, friendly and reliable, sends you video updates on your car, and doesn't way overcharge you? Before he worked on my car, I thought that technicians like this were like unicorns or Bigfoot, a mythical creature; but now I'm a believer! He even explained things to me on a way I could understand and was patient. His problem solving skills and willingness to continue learning as new models of BMWs come out or new problems are discovered are unparalleled. You would think that because he has done this for so long and everything has become second nature at this point, that he would not be as meticulous and would be careless, leading to mistakes. That isn't the case because he genuinely loves what he does no matter if it's a simple brake job or completely replacing the clutch. And when someone does something they enjoy, they do a better job. I found Alfredo when I bought a used BMW in Encinitas. He is the most honest and hard working mechanic I've ever come across. Ive called him to review suggested work from local dealers and he's provided good advice to seperate out the BS from real issues and explained in detail what to tell the dealer to get coverage under the extended SULEV warranty. I went online looking for a mechanic who could diagnose my car after my A/C started blowing hot air. Within the hour, Alfredo responded and I booked an appointment a few days later to see him. After telling him the issues with my A/C, he knew exactly what the culprit was and ran tests to confirm his theory. Alfredo saw that my CPO warranty had just expired and said, "I'm not going to sell you a compressor that I know you can get from the BMW dealership at a significantly-reduced/free cost." What an honest guy! As a former service advisor and Master Technician for BMW, Alfredo told me what I should emphasize to the dealership. I went into the dealership the next day and told the dealership exactly what Alfredo had told me. BMW quoted me ~$1900 for repairs, but I ended up only paying $90. Alfredo did not charge me a dime for his diagnosis and his time. Even when I offered some cash, he did not take it. I can't thank him enough for saving me ~$1700. Usually have such great experiences here - usually VERY honest about the work and fair prices. Brought our X1 in for a check engine light today. Got the news it needed a new turbo. Not great news, but not surprising for a 2915 X1. But after we talked to our tax person about just donating it since it's an older 2015 and getting a tax credit, we asked the mechanic for a valuation of the car on recommendation of tax person. They said they could but then offered us 2K to buy the car, which was less than the $3600 write off, so we declined. Then they said the couldn't write the valuation after all. We took it to the dealership for a valuation same day. Dealership bought the car from us on the spot for $5800 - like had to go home in a Lyft! We were very honest with the dealership about the problems with the car because we are honorable people - explained all mechanical issues. As the dealership pointed out, the brand new roof racks, new roof rack pads, and the 2 brand new run flat tires together alone were worth more than 2k. Essentially, they said the parts of the car alone were worth more than they offered us. We aren't people that needed to make a lot of money on the sale of the car. Last week we bought our daughter another car for cash and just haven't had enough time to have it delivered yet. This was the first weird experience we have had here - BMW Guy manager said with the mechanical issues no way the car was worth more than 2k. We are not letting this experience outweigh all of the other positive experiences/reviews. We will still give them another chance, but this certainly raised an eyebrow. And then when I created a review on the link sent to me to review for the business, their response was that they spoke with "my husband" and there must be some "miscommunication" between us, not realizing that I am "the husband" who wrote the review. Really strange all around. Not sure if there is new staff and Alfredo is more removed from the day to day management or what, but this was not the normal experience we have here. read more

Amazing customer service. Already been here twice with my X5d for oil changes and brake pads. Alfredo personally attends to each customer, clearly explains everything beforehand, works quickly and efficiently, and does it at reasonable cost.
