What a f----cking disaster dealing with this auto shop. I was referred to John's Auto Pros from my warranty provider MaxCare. They were a "preferred" auto shop and I would get a discount on my deductible if I used them. What a nightmare. They couldn't come to terms with the warranty company regarding the amount covered, the protocol to getting the covered part, and I wasn't sure who was lying to me...my warranty company or them. Now I know. After 2 weeks of my truck sitting at their shop while they went back and forth with the warranty company, they finally said that they won't work on my truck and they're going to "close out" the work order. I could have paid $2,800 out of pocket if I wanted them to proceed with the new transmission...or I could pay approx $1,000 and have them put things back and have it towed to another auto shop. I chose option 2. Apparently they have now been dropped from MaxCare's referral list. My truck is at another auto shop now and the warranty issue has gone smoothly. However, the new shop stated that there were many missing parts and the workmanship putting things back together was sloppy and careless. My decision to visit John's Auto Pros was a MISTAKE! Trusting them with my vehicle ended up costing me over $500 in unnecessary repairs, the loss of 2 1/2 days of work and my vehicle was even held hostage when the mechanics closed the garage while I was being handed my estimate. The owner said they did not have the ability to open the garage until morning. I couldn't even have my keys and I wasn't able to get into my home that night. Last week I visited John's Auto Pros to check out my grinding brakes. The inspection revealed that my pads were low but not the source of the grinding. Myself and my friend heard this and we were told that the problem was a front wheel bearing, an urgent repair that needed to be replaced at a cost of $409. The next morning I contacted John's Auto Pros and told them to proceed with the bearing. They had my car anyway and was being told it was not safe until it was replaced. Only after inquiring, they offered me a free oil change as compensation for the mass inconvenience that I had experienced the night before. It wasn't until close to 5pm. that I got the call that my car was finally ready and when I went to pay I showed them my AAA card and requested the 10% discount that my membership offers. I was told that I could not get the 10% discount since I had already gotten a free oil change. When I inquired with the other owner she told me the same and even had the nerve to tell me that it was my fault my car and keys were locked in the previous night saying that I had arrived too late and my car was taking up space on her lift. Wow... I had arrived exactly seven documented minutes after they had called me and had been waiting half a day to hear from them! Eventually they obliged and gave me the 10% discount that I was entitled to but told me next time to go to Pep Boys! I shrugged and said okay and when I offered to leave a positive review I was told that they prefer I do not.. Okaaay... and let's just say I got out of there quickly. It was only after driving my car several miles that the horrible grinding sound came back just as it existed prior to this $409 repair. I had to take another day off of work the next day and it wasn't until early afternoon that I received a call telling me that the problem was my brakes and that they were only going to charge me $107 more to fix the problem. Only per my Mother's strong request I politely said okay and didn't mention the fact that the inspection two days earlier revealed the brakes were not the cause of the grinding or that I had my pads changed only 8 months earlier and even still had a warranty on them! I waited the rest of the day and as it approached 5 p.m. and I still had not heard from them I became nervous fearing my car being locked in again. It was around 4:45 when I arrived to see my car sitting in the front of the parking lot. I went straight inside and paid them another $107 (which by the way they volunteered included my 10% discount) but everything after this is a little confusing. When I inquired further about what the problem really was, I received a very vague explanation. I definitely heard him tell me "at some point I would need the bearing replaced anyway" (despite the fact that their job was to diagnose and fix the grinding and not a future repair). And while we all knew I didn't need brake pads, I'm still not understanding where this came from. So what was the problem then? Turns out the cause was simply A LOOSE PART. A simple fix with a few twists of a screwdriver ended up costing me $516. If I could only go back in time! I don't like leaving negative reviews however when you visit a mechanic you trust that they are knowledgeable enough to diagnose the problem correctly the first time or accept responsibility and offer to negotiate for their mistake. $517 dollars is a lot of money to pay for nothing and this is just not what you expect when doing business. As an added bonus, before I had the chance to post this review I noticed something is rattling under my hood! I have not opened my hood once since taking it to John's Auto Pros! I take my car in to John's for all my auto repairs. And it's because they provide excellent service for me and don't over charge like some other do. But this review is because of their honesty and integrity. I recently needed my air conditioner unit fixed. And the owner took time and looked up some of the warranties that might apply to my car. And found an extended warranty, that he thought I should ask about. Well sure enough the dealer found out that I was completely covered after the inspection. John's honest saved me a lot of financial loss, because of that extended warranty I had no out of pocket expense to fix my air conditioner in my car. Look some auto repair places will not do the home work for you, and take time out of their schedule to help customers out. But John's is different their customer service is a step above. I took my Tesla in for alignment after getting a quote at a reasonable price. John got the alignment completed quickly and gave me the detailed alignment printout when I picked up my car a few hours later, which showed how it was out of alignment when I brought it in, but all in the green now. Unfortunately, the car pulled to the right afterwards. I took it back the next (business) day, and John and team spent a couple of more hours working on it, including at least 2 test drives, to dial in the already-within-spec alignment to drive without pulling. I text messaged John the (owner) to ask him, how much will he charge me to do (2) different Oil/Filter Change Services plus the 20 Point Inspection and the Inspection on checking the wires on the Alternator on my mom's 1998 Honda Accord Car and my 1995 Honda Civic DX Coupe Car? John text messaged me back with his response. John said he would charge me for the Oil/Filter Change Service and the 20 Point Inspection for each car the quote was $59.95 that includes the tire rotation. For the Inspection on checking the wires on the alternator on my mom's 1998 Honda Accord Car. John the owner said the Inspection for the alternator in checking the connections on the wiring system would be a FREE INSPECTION. Then I asked John, why does he want to give me a FREE INSPECTION? John said to me that he wants to help me out and he doesn't want to charge me to just check the wiring system on the alternator on my mom's car. When I heard John the owner of John's Auto Pros tell me that information, I realize that John really cares about his potential new customers to NOT charge them. I was charged $65.00 for the Inspection on the alternator and to check the wiring system on my mom's 1998 Honda Accord LX Sedan Car. On the Oil and Filter Change Services and 28 point inspection at this current shop I am with now charged me for my 1995 Honda Civic DX Coupe Car was $59.43. I would go to John's Auto Pros if his shop was a closer commute to my home in Oceanside, CA. John's Auto Pros is located in Escondido, CA that is a long distance from my home. I gave John's Auto Pros a (5 star - excellent rating) because he would have given me a FREE INSPECTION on checking the wiring system on the alternator on my mom's 1998 Honda Accord LX Sedan Car. It would be a savings of $65.00 for me to receive a FREE INSPECTION. That other shop wants the profit from charging me $65.00 since this is the Covid-19 Pandemic now. I went to Johns Auto Pro due to my air conditioning not working properly. I scheduled an appt with John very nice chap. I brought my children and we sat in the lobby while we waited. After the work was completed I was told they put die to see if it would leak. My car has a closed loop system so the Freon shouldn't leak if there was a leak the dye would reveal the issue. It was fairly priced and I was a happy camper. At the end of my service I was made aware of a potential issue that one of my tires was low pressure and maybe needed a repair. I thought that was strange because the tire was brand new. He said I wouldn't know if the tire was flat because of they were run flats. I told them thats fine my tired are insured at America's Tires so anything I can go get it repaired no charge. I made an appt for America's Tired next day they told me nothing is wrong with my tire and run flat make no difference. If the tire is flat the tire pressure gauge test would reveal that. This is when I started to not trust John's business. I received a text from the business asking if my car was running smoothly since my work. I decided to stop in and get a quote for 2 strut replacements. I had other quotes but since I was already there to come back to check if the air conditioning system was leaking dye. I decided I could kill two birds. Interesting I went through all the question make model etc... Let me explain I got a quote for 900 from Sam Tech for both and this part was complete strut coil everything LOL. I also got a price of 460.00 from another place in Los Angeles for just strut KWB brand but this quote from John's was a whopping 1401.98! I'm well versed that these places try to take advantage of women but this was straight no lube tomfoolery. I told the guy about my other quotes and he told me they can't compete. Little does John's business know that I too can look up a part number on my quote Bilstein Strut part#22-183750... 169.99 flat for both from Shock Surplus. Ok I understand they need to pull a profit but the quote for the parts was 463.88 and 772.20 for Labor with an alignment for 129.95 not sure if it was a four point computerized alignment didn't want to ask after the price gouge, 90% sure it was because I didn't even see a alignment rig so basically 129.95 for a toe and go? LOL! Ya I guess they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine business is business and I'll take mine elsewhere. I'll drive to LA for 460 with GLEE. I will NOT be returning. Not even an oil change but thanks for the Air conditioning it's going great for now. read more

Let me start with a positive note- the owners here are VERY kind, honest people. I really like the owners. However, I had an issue with one employee. I used to come here for all my car needs but the last time I was here, a younger male (this was a while ago, I'm not sure if he still works there), was the reason I decided not to come back. I needed an oil change and tire rotation and this man got oil/dirt hand prints on my passenger seat. They do put down plastic car seat covers when they need to sit in your car but he had already removed them, then put his hand on my seat to put my tire locks back. I later had to take my car to a deatailer to get it cleaned inside. He also did not put one of my tires on properly and when I was leaving I drove off and it felt like my tire was going to fall off my car. It literally was not put on properly and I immediately reentered the parking lot to ask him to fix it. He fixed it and then told me the air in the tire was low but I do not believe this was truthful because he reused my tire locks and flat tires do not feel the way this felt when I left the lot. I was very upset when finally leaving. I understand this is not the owners' fault but it was too wreckless and felt dishonest to me so I have been going to other places since. I hope this never happens to anyone else and I hope that person doesn't work there. read more

I was in San Diego for a 3 day workshop & the water pump in my wife's 2013 Ford Explorer needed to be replaced. Not a fun job, as you have to drop the engine on this car just to get to the water pump. Ford dropped the ball on the placement for the water pump on this vehicle...Anyway, Obviously cost was a key contributor to me choosing John's Auto Pros; However, the timeliness for when the job was going to be completed was also a contributing factor. I was with my wife and daughter's and needed to stay 2 extra days in San Diego to get this work done. Went is for diagnosis of front suspension noise. The advisor told me my suspension arms were broken. I wants to see the broken suspension arms. This irritated the advisor, he scoffed at me. Irritedly he had the car lifted up, then pointed to the lower arm. I looked at it, everything was intact. No torn boots, nothing else wrong. I said it's not broken. He got more irritated, then told me the mechanic was out to lunch. So of course I called foul at that point. Then he brings another mechanic over with a crow bar. True story!!!! Can't make this stuff up. He then cranks on the front thrust arm, saying see how this moves, indicating that was the source of the noise. I tried to explain, there is no way that was causing the loud metal to metal sound I was experiencing. I asked if the new mechanic want to go for a test drive to hear the noise. The advisor , Tall guy dark hair, then tells me, I'll have to pay another diagnostic fee. I asked if he would garuantee the diagnosis that was given to me. He said no, and scoffed off. This place is obviously a ripoff artist. Don't go there The issue was diagnosed correctly by another service. It was the shocks making the horrific noise. read more

Family owned & operated store, very nice & super helpful people, providing satisfactory service. I found them thru my CarMax warranty, I am not into cars but my husband & his father are. They listened my complaints very carefully, diagnosed the issue and brought up the solution. My husband was very happy with their solutions. We ordered the pieces and they (halfway) fixed my car. (it needs more but they could not see until they open that specific part.) John told me it is okey to drive for now but suggested me to order a couple of more pieces to make it at its best. Even it is not fixed 100%, my driving experience was elevated right after I left their parking lot. My husband check the bills and he said the prices are fair.
