My husband and I own two cars, a BMW 328i and a Jeep Patriot, and for years we struggled to find a repair shop we could truly trust. I had stopped taking my BMW to dealerships after one charged me over $2,000 for services I never approved. That was the last straw. I knew in that moment, it was the last time I would utilize a dealership for my cars' maintenance. Since finding Star Autohaus, we finally have peace of mind. Preventative maintenance is very important to us since both of our cars are from 2011 and 2014 (though still with low miles). My first impression of Star Autohaus was through a phone call with Alex, the Office Manager. She gave me a rough estimate over the phone, explained the process clearly, and emphasized that the final cost would be determined only after evaluation. She was professional, a great listener, and never pushy -- which immediately gave me confidence. When I brought in my BMW for evaluation, I met Jolver, one of their mechanics, who confirmed that the radiator needed replacement. Alex reviewed the estimate with me, and it was a nice savings. Most importantly, the whole process felt transparent and respectful. What stands out most is the professionalism and sincerity of the Star Autohaus team. Unlike dealerships and many shops, we've dealt with, they treat you like family, not a transaction. Thanks to them, we no longer have to search for a service provider we can trust -- Star Autohaus has become our go-to shop for both of our vehicles. read more

Rude and quite un professional over the phone, misdiagnosed my car after a 160 inspection fee.

Brought my 1998 SLK230 in to Star AutoHaus after struggling to find someone who could diagnose and fix an overheating problem. Jolver was very upfront about what was going on, and how long it was going to take. Problem was electrical and took some time to diagnose, but Jolver got the job done and I'm back to having my SoCal convertible on the road. Have only had the one job so far, but the price seemed more than fair. Given the great care that they took with my car, this will be the place I go back to for anything else regarding my Mercedes needs, and I wouldn't hesitate to refer them to anyone else needing Mercedes service. A big thanks to the Star AutoHaus team, the only thing is that I wish I had found them years ago! read more

Absolute amazing service great prices and so fast!! I take all my mercedes here and referr all my friends!! I absolutely love this place!!!

Heike, Jolver, and Alex were super helpful with my E320 CDI. I would not have known that the dealer had warrantied the SBC unit on my car for 25 years had I not been told that by Jolver. Will definitely go back when needed. Definitely recommend them. read more

This place was super helpful with my BMW car AC. They were reasonably priced and very ethical. Plus it didn't take them long to fix it! I would absolutely use them again and highly recommend them! read more

Steve was great, his price to change the plugs on my Audi Q7 couldn't be beat.

Brought my wife's Porsche here for an oil change because the dealer canceled my appointment. I always take my car to the Porsche dealer. So I was skeptical at first because of the low price I got over the phone. I met the mechanic here. They are top notch mechanics that work on German cars. They only use OEM parts and oil. I cannot believe after all these years of having BMW,Porsche and Mercedes I have never heard of this place. They have been in this hidden spot for years. These guys are a hidden gem. I highly recommend. read more

Worst costumer service! Super rude Only reason for 1 start is because They answered the phone! All down hill from there, mocked me for trying to get a second opinion from this shop when I told them my Audi was at the dealer. And hung up on me saying he's time was more valuable then this. read more

Best service I have ever found. They did my brakes on Mercedes plus replaced bulb without even charging me. They did several extras that were complimentary. They did great job at a good price. Very honest and so great. Definitely recommend them. read more

When I want here. I had a problem with my gas tank. My car smelled like gas. They told me it could be a factory defect. It turned out it was and they referred me to a Mercedes dealership. This was the only place I could get a walk in oil change (excluding Jiffy Lube and the sort, of course) and everything went great. Price was exactly what he guesstimated over the phone and they diagnosed my check engine light and fixed it (only a bad gas cap seal, but still) free of charge. And even though I still have warranty and knew I wouldn't get the work done there, he still looked up notices for my car to show my SA at the dealer. He's also very knowledgeable about German cars; I'm a BMW guy but he knew Mercedes extra well. Chatted about cars for the whole duration of the oil change. He obviously knew way more than I did. read more

We moved to So. CA in 2010 and were fortunate to fine Star AutoHaus. We've been doing business with Jerry ever since for several reasons. We TRUST him with all 3 of our Mercedes. He is knowledgeable, fair, honest, and just a great doctor of Mercedes. I'm a self-proclaimed fanatic when it comes to keeping my cars in top running order. Jerry, Steve and Robert have always taken care of the essentials, without going overboard. They've never done unnecessary work and frequently tell me that things can wait. Along with doing a great business, his wife Heike is a pleasure to be around also. A great family business and team. JUST GOOD PEOPLE. You bought the best - so service it from the best. I won't take my car anywhere else! I've had my Mercedes c-250 serviced here multiple times and always leave knowing I got a great service and a great price. I drive 1 1/2 hours to come here because I refuse to take me car to any other shop! I had a major service due and wanted to try to keep the cost below a certain price point... the guys at Star Autohaus FAR exceeded my expectations, kept the price well below what I was expecting to have to spend and were done with my car within a few short hours. It can be hard to find honest and fair deals sometimes, especially when it comes to cars but these guys are definitely the best out there!!! read more

We have an old model Mercedes SUV. It has had the "check engine" popping on an off for months but we haven't had the time or means to get it looked at. We are due to have a smog check this registration year and finally were able to drop it off with Jerry at Star to check out. I really was fearing the worst and had braced myself for impact. They took a look at it and discovered the spark plug wires were original/ OLD changed them out and then took it to get it smogged for us! "it passed with flying colors" When I dropped it off I had told Jerry about all the weird things it had been doing and kind of game him carte blanche. I told him "I want to feel safe to actually drive it again. When I picked it up yesterday he assured me that after taking care of this single item it was ready to go and safe to take driving! It rides great and we are on the road again. We will return for any additional needs. Jerry was great! read more

Was told to drop it off. Took two days to respond. Was told it was a bad plastic connector. No estimates or heads up. He does some work I didn't approve. Charged over 400$ for simple DIY job. Not a recommendation read more

Great service at a reasonable price. They know what their doing and get you the best deal they can

I have finally found a mechanic who is a great guy, dependable, knowledgeable, reliable, gives great service and very reasonable prices. Jerry is a class-act kind of guy. If I had a daughter, I would send her to Jerry to take car of her car, as he does all of mine. Recommended 100%. I drive from Kearny Mesa, to San Marcos to bring my cars to Jerry, because I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. read more

Jerry and his crew are great. I have a 20-year-old Mercedes that no one in North County San Diego (except the Dealership, maybe...) was able to help me. I called mechanics around and they referred me to one person that specializes in older models. He had it for several weeks and nothing. He couldn't figure out what was wrong and suggested a service that's beyond the car's worth. I remember Jerry in San Marcos because he had worked on my first BMW. I went to Star AutoHaus as my last resort to get my ride fixed or sell it. To be fair, Jerry also took a bit of time to figure out what was wrong. For me, it was the conversation that I had that he wouldn't give up until he can figure it out. I think that this type of approach is welcoming to future customers because he cares about the vehicle and, it shows that he's willing to put the effort into finding a solution. I'm the same way in my profession so I was happy to see that he is the same. Initially, I worked on the car myself and changed all the parts e.g. spark plugs and wires, coils, and even the injector that was causing the Check Engine light. So, coming in, I knew it was something more than the basics. I know how time-consuming it is to eliminate each possible cause so the time he spent trying to do the same is an illustration of what kind of service you'll be getting under his care of your vehicle. I know that he had spent above and beyond the hours to get to a solution. I truly appreciate that. The cost of the transaction is more than fair for the service that I experienced. The work that he and his crew did to my car was thoroughly explained which gave me the confidence that the service was exceptional and driven with a goal to solve the issues the car had. I don't know much about how the schedule of the cost that mechanics or in this case, a specialist would incur in doing their business but, I can assure everyone that Jerry's expertise and knowledge about the vehicle's proper engineering did not show up in the bill. Lastly, he's a good guy. When you're on the same side with your mechanic in terms of your goal as an owner with regards to cost, quality, and service experience, it sits pretty good as a customer. I believe that this alone should be a reason to give Jerry and his crew the opportunity to earn your business. For a regular guy that can't afford much and shouldn't be driving luxury vehicles at all, it's a great comfort to have Jerry to call on when things don't go well with your car. Final point, I've been there, looking for a good and fair mechanic, call these guys. I'm not saying don't call others but, I think you'll find that these guys will be on your side in what you ultimately want to achieve. That's it - all the best. read more

I am SO grateful to Jerry and his team. These guys are so awesome! I had my car looked at, at the Volkswagen dealership in Carlsbad and was quoted 3-4k to fix. I knew that couldn't be right, I called around a few shops and no one would talk to me it was a bit frustrating. Until i came across this shop Jerry was so helpful over the phone and made me feel very comfortable bringing my car in. They quickly figured out the issue which didn't cost nearly a fraction of what i had been quoted a the dealership. These are the most honest mechanics i have ever come across and not to mention the fact that they make you feel like they've known you forever. I will def continue to bring my car here. Thank you guys!!!! read more

My husband and I brought our car here a couple times and the service is just phenomenal. It has a great mom n' pop shop vibe ran by people you can trust. Jerry takes really great care of us. I had my car towed to Star AutoHaus because it was suggested by the tow truck driver and it was close to my house. My car was overheating from moderate driving and upon googling the symptoms I discovered that it was likely the water pump which tends to fail around 80k miles. Star AutoHaus diagnoses the problem and gives me a quote for a water pump and thermostat replacement that was on the high end according to the bimmer threads I was researching. Thus, like most smart shoppers, I started calling around for additional quotes at other local shops (with stellar reviews) to make sure I was getting a fair price. Upon calling other shops, I received a quote that was cheaper than Star's quote by about $75 and asked Star if they can price match. The person at Star (whom I presumed was the owner of the shop) became very UNPROFESSIONAL when I asked about price matching and said "Pick up your car!" before hanging up on me. I was shocked that anyone in their right mind would run a business this way. It was a difference of $75. If you can't price match, just tell me you can't. No need to be a jerk about it! In my past experience, every shop that I have ever called was either able to price match or cordially declined. I was not only disturbed by the shop's handling of the situation, but due to the rude nature of the owner I began to have anxiety that my car might be tampered with before I had it picked up. I'm not accusing Star of doing this, but who wouldn't wonder if they were put in this situation? On the positive side, Star AutoHaus' unprofessionalism ended up saving me close to $300 because I found an even better quote at a more reputable shop. Unless you want to deal with a shop that charges higher prices and sorely lacks customer service, I'd steer clear of Star AutoHaus. read more

I have utilized Star AutoHaus' services for nearly five years. Initially I brought my '05 CL55 AMG in for routine maintenance but over last year it required more assistance. DO NOT GO HERE. This is the first negative review I have ever left on Yelp. But I couldn't in good conscience let others go down the same rabbit hole I did. Although the warning signs were there before, in that actual costs always came in far above their quote, I continued to use Star because I have always liked independent mechanics as opposed to dealers. And ultimately it came down to "better the devil you know than the devil you don't". However this latest episode went too far. I took my MB in for the 78,000 mile service and Jerry didn't seem to know what was required. He said he would look it up. Against my better judgment, I also mentioned I was having a steering issue too. I should have waited to see first if they could have diagnosed it while doing the required Service 2 and 3. Of course, they came back and said I needed to replace the rack and pinon to the tune of $1,400. In my haste to correct the problem I accepted the diagnosis and replaced it only to have the same issue still. To that he said it must be the pump so that will be another $500. I was pissed to say the least and hung up. He called back and said he would buy the part and I pay for the labor. Again, in my haste and wanting the problem to be solved I agreed to bring it in. Of course, when I came to pick it up he charged me for the part "because it cost more than he expected". What a guy. Now, I am officially done with Star and hope all of you heed my warning, as Jerry seems to have one foot out the door and is just cashing in until the other foot follows. It's too bad, as I am a loyal customer (see how many times I returned to Star) to those that deserve it and like I said I usually move on from bad experiences without leaving reviews. But this was too much. Please consider other honest mechanics before considering bringing your car to Star. read more

Jerry is absolutely a Meister mechanic. He earned a certificate in Germany, from MBZ and is an expert with all things German. Moreover, he is a great guy. I LOVE taking my car to Jerry and his mechanics at Star Autohaus! They are professional and he takes the time to go though the car and lets me know what will need to be done in the next couple of months to make sure I can budget accordingly. He really knows his cars and will not price gouge you like the Mercedes dealers do. Don't believe me? Next time you get a quote at the dealer, call Jerry and have him quote you for the exact same thing, it will be half or less, and he will never go one penny over the quote. I take my Mercedes to him, my parents take both of theirs to him, and I have 3 friends who go to him as well, and I have never heard anything but positive, glowing comments. Friendly, informative service and a car wash too! read more
