The Blue Shutters offers an interesting and fun experience. The wait staff appears to be having fun on shift, they're warm and friendly, knowledgeable, and provide good service. The interior is a little darker than most restaurants with rustic browns and signature blues throughout. Like the hardwood floors, bare tables, brown tones, then the blue drapes or sconces for a nice touch. Pretty classy without being pretentious. The food was pretty tasty too; had the scallop appetizer, decent portion for the price. Five pieces come with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, and a few crostini for a flavorful all in one bite. Dinner was halibut and duck entrees, halibut portion size was pretty big considering, duck portion was really small. Hardwood grilled meats and veggies had a nice smokie flavor. The side long grain wild rice was over cooked and mushy, but the duck came with a pomegranate gastrique that really rounded the dish out. The house baked bread with garlic honey butter adds a nice touch. Desert was passion fruit panna cotta; never had panna cotta before but watch all kinds of chefs screw it up on TV. I'd say the custard was creamy but not too thin. The passion fruit was ultra tart and overwhelming. Probably a different fruit would have been a better choice; came with a giant cookie. This is an expensive restaurant no other way about it, but at least the food is very good. Great spot for milestone events. read more

My family held my surprise birthday 50th party here last weekend - and I'm extremely happy that they did. 1. Food was AMAZING. From delightful and tasty apps to the delicious buffet filled with all my favorite dishes!! 2. Cocktails are off the charts!! Dirty martinis, Lemon drop martinis, great beer selection, etc. No one was without a drink in hand for more than a minute - LIBATIONS were floating. 3. Service - Impeccable, flawless!! Staff was attentive and kept the party moving with drinks, passed apps, buffet refreshers, and tidying up constantly. 4. Management - Stayed onsite and checked in to ensure we were happy with every element of the surprise party. This provides an added level of comfort knowing the establishment cares about its clients and staff. Cheers to them!!!! (BTW - family who planned it with the restaurant said entire team planning the surprise party were SUPER HELPFUL and FUN to plan with) 5. Easy quick ride from Scranton.... Food was absolutely amazing... we had Sarah serve us. She took my expectations to the next level with her perfectionism.

We were looking for a good meal and decided to give The Blue Shutters Inn a try. Upon entry we were greeted and quickly seated with our reservations. We dined in the bar area and they offered live acoustic music, which was well done by musician! The menu has a good variety of meals to choose from ranging from seafood, steaks, bistro items, and apps. Our bartender was friendly and service was good. Beer selection was limited and seemed to be more geared towards mixed drinks. Our first meal was a crab stuffed portabella mushroom as an appetizer. The meal was in a lemon butter sauce. The mushrooms were well stuffed and a good app for 1 if solo, a stretch for 2 people. The flavor was mediocre and really lacking a solid flavor. Our main entree was the special of the night, Halibut. The meal took an hour to arrive, mean while others were served their meals and left before we got ours. The meal came with two sides, quinoa and mixed vegetables. The flavoring in each side, was either lacking or too much flavor it didn't really blend. The vegetables were also over cooked and not as enjoyable to eat. Overall the meals were good portions, but flavoring of the meals were sub par of our expectations. The price of the meals, definitely did not meet the expectations of what you'd expect. Service was good, but overall can be improved in timeliness for night where there were not many tables. Unfortunately, our experience was not as good as we would expect from a restaurant in this category. read more

I dined at the Blue Shutters during a trip to the Poconos. The Poconos has a lot of history so it was fitting to find this gem because it has a lot of history and character itself. First off, the food was EXCELLENT! I was part of a larger group so I sampled quite a few entrees that were all delicious. The staff was welcoming and attentive at all the right times. And the ambience is nicely set before you step foot inside as you are greeted by gas lanterns at the front steps. Lots of nice touches that make for a good evening. If you want to treat yourself to a fabulous dining experience make sure you get over to this restaurant as soon as possible. It's even worth a long drive! As soon as you walk in the front door you almost want to say out loud "this place is beautiful!" There is soft lighting everywhere and quiet music playing in the background which sets the mood for a very relaxing experience. As you are shown to your table you're immediately presented with beautiful leather bound menus. Not the torn stained paper ones or plastic laminated ones that you'll see in so many restaurants today. You'll notice the candle and little plant on a perfectly set table as a very polite bus person will deliver you a handsome decanter filled with water. Your professional neatly attired server will come over and take your drink order and explain any specials for the evening. We had Lindsey. . She was fantastic! There is an ample wine list by the glass and the bottle as well as specialty cocktails. The menu itself is varied with everything from steaks to chops to seafood. When your food is delivered you'll notice everything is beautifully presented ...not just food slammed onto a plate. The portions are very nice. We had the swordfish and I would say the portions were actually large. This was the most buttery perfectly grilled swordfish that I've had in a restaurant! It came with amazingly tasty fresh vegetables and a choice of two potatoes, which were both outstanding compliments to the main dish. As the evening goes on, you'll notice how attentive your server is and how the bus persons continue to circulate around the room to make sure you have everything you need. This place has something most restaurants are sorely missing today....attention to detail. Some have great food, others a nice atmosphere but it is rare to find a place that has it all together. The only thing to be aware of is that this isn't the kind of place that most people can afford to come to once a week or even once a month but maybe once or twice a year as the prices are on the very high side. However considering the quality of the food, the atmosphere and all of the points that I've mentioned, it should absolutely be tops on your list for a visit as soon as possible! read more

Wanted to try a new place for my wife's birthday. I made a reservation for a Friday night at 6:30. We arrived on time and were greeted pleasantly and seated promptly. We both tried a holiday eggnog cocktail which was delicious but heavy on the ice for a small glass. We got complimentary bread with a butter,honey, garlic spread. It was so good I asked for more which was quickly delivered. For dinner I had the red snapper with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I am not an asparagus eater but this changed my mind. The whole meal was delicious. My wife had the eggplant which she enjoyed. It was a large portion so she took half home. Neither of us had room for dessert so I can't comment on that. Fabulous! A must when you are in the area. Beautiful place, top- notch service from everyone. My husband is gluten and dairy free and the staff was so helpful . The food was delicious- the best Caesar salad! My husband and I had the red snapper snd it was seasoned and cooked perfectlyif you like Snapper I recommend you try it here. The entree came with potatoes - I had the chive mashed and grilled asparagus. Unfortunately, we were so full, we passed on dessert. We were looking for a new place and we found Blue Shutters the menu look really good so we made a reservation. When we walked in the door we were blowen away on how mazing this place was were in an of the beat location and never expected this. You think you are in a world class restaurant and super clean. The staff is not stuck up just very good at there job they make you feel at home. The menu is a one of a kind chef creation that a lot of hard went into to create. If you are in the area of even if your are not this is a true hidden Jem and worth the drive. If this place was in Westchester of Fairfield County you would have to wait weeks for a reservation. Upon entering Blue Shutters, I was immediately impressed with the new decor throughout the beautiful building. It was obvious that much thought went into the design of each section, providing a comfortable bar area, the lovely patio, the ambience of dining room, as well as the cozy porch. The waiters were terrific. Our food and drinks were served in a timely manner and with such class! The salmon dinner was prepared to perfection and enough for a leftover meal! Finding a location for a small post-funeral family and friend luncheon / repast was not easy, but our family was so very glad that we found The Blue Shutters. The staff were incredibly thoughtful. The meal was excellent and absent the surcharge so many others wanted for a party less than 40 or 50 people. The desserts were homemade and of excellent quality. Even an unexpected request for some wine for the room was met with pleasant and responsive service. We are looking forward to going back for a "regular" meal, but I strongly recommend The Blue Shutters for any small group gathering. What a hidden gem! We were a party of 5. We shared the Pork Belly tacos & stuffed shrimp, both had amazing flavor. I especially loved the side sauces. My friends had: grilled meatloaf, clam & pasta special & stuffed shrimp with ravioli in a pumpkin sauce. Everyone adored their meals. We shared a chocolate & coconut Bundt cake, which we gobbled up. In the last month, I have dined (and I do mean dined) at The Blue Shutters 5 times. The wait staff are all top-notch, the ambiance is beautiful, and the food is over-the-moon delicious. The chef makes an Atlantic Salmon with a dijon creamed shallot sauce that is prepared on a hard wood fire - it melts in your mouth. Sadly, I think I am addicted to this dish as I order the same entree each time I visit. My friends assure me that the meatloaf, eggplant, and stuffed shrimp etc. are equally delicious. The small touches that make this a true dining experience can be found in the details. The staff are all attired in crisp uniforms, the buns are served with a delicious honey garlic butter combination (sooo yummy), and the tables are beautifully dressed. I heartily recommend The Blue Shutters to anyone looking for a place that should soon be sporting their first Michelin star. read more

I really love the history of this place. I hate to give the shutters a 3 star rating. I have been told by locals that the shutters has been around for a long time. On the inside of the shutters a lot of the originality still stands. Original couch and shutters (blue) as well as the old heating radiators and windows are still in place. I have to say one of my fav things about this place was the music they played big band, jazz and swing even some Sinatra, Louie Armstrong I feel the nostalgia of that era is disappearing. Our drinks came quickly. Our appetizers came quick also. The people close to us had complained because the waitress forgot to place 1 of the orders. It took close to an hour to get our food. We ordered nothing special as our main entrees. I got a burger and the other person I was with got pasta. The food was excellent. That's why I feel bad giving a 3 star rating. As we were waiting fir our check. A couple on a date night sent there food back. I felt bad for them I felt it ruined there mood. The food in this place is great. But it wasn't like there was a packed house the night the night I went. There was maybe 7-8 tables full. The food was great but I don't know if it was worth the 1hr after appetizer wait. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to the shutters unless friends suggested it. It's nice ambiance with the candle and music. But the wait killed it for me. Awful. I went there with my family for Mother's Day and it was a major disappointment. First off, we had a reservation & had to wait for over 10 minutes because they weren't set up. The food was dreadful; I got the fettucini, which came were charcoal burned shrimp on top, noodles that were completely overcooked and swimming in a watery sauce for $27. I ate about 1/4 of it until I was just plain disgusted. My sister ordered the same dish, exactly the same mess of a bowl came out. My grandmother got the $35 lamb that came out black and she couldn't cut through. We also waited close to an hour for the food to come out, which is pathetic. Don't host big events if you don't have a big enough kitchen for it. The waitresses were also not very attentive- never came back to refill water. We will not be going back, ever. A major disappointment for Mother's Day. read more

Let me be clear I am giving two stars not for food, which was delicious, the rating is for the incredibly SLOOOOOOW service. Dear chef, please get your kitchen act together!! We waited well over an hour for our appetizer, which was simple soup,salad, and stuffed mushrooms. All was tasty, and the garlic/honey butter that was served with the bread was to die for....BUT it's not enough to make up for interminable waiting on food. We had a party of six next to us walk out without paying, and although completely unfair to the waitstaff, we understood their frustration. Dinner was served about 40 mins later, and was delicious, but again, late, and tired at this point, we packed up most of our food, paid the bill, and went home. We looked at eachother and said well?... I will give them another chance, perhaps during the summer when hopefully they have figure out their timing issues. I have gone to the Blue Shutters as a regular for almost a year now. The service from three select wait staff is great. If they are not working get ready for an unpleasant time. We went there and ordered a special that was on the menu, when it came the portion was large. Thinking this was great cut into the fish and could smell it was bad. Felt as though they were trying to unload what was left on us that night. The specials are the same everytime that you go as well as the desert menu. It was busy this time last year and now is totally empty. Food is hit or miss depending on if the chef is in the kitchen or walking around talking with everyone. I will not be surprised if the location closes soon at the rate things are going. Not a good spot anymore. read more

Great food, perfect setting. Everything was fantastic. I have seen a few reviews on here about slow service but if your not used to eating fine dining and its not done in 90 minutes like McDonald's promises than you think it is slow. I have been eating fine dining now for several years as well as have several professional chefs in my family. The service times seemed just about right for the type and kinds of food prepared and offered. I would give five stars but the parking and location need to be worked on a bit. There are no parking markers and some cars were awkwardly parked which made for interesting maneuvering when leaving. Fine atmosphere, good service, great food. Blue Shutters is a wonderful place to go if you're tired of chain restaurants and mounds of pasta. Arrive before 6PM and the price of the entree will include soup or salad and dessert. The soups are made in house from fresh ingredients and delicately seasoned with fresh herbs. Oak plank grilling added a special touch to the wonderful flavors of our entrees. Dinner for two with generous cocktails before dinner was $70. Food was excellent.....presentation was beautiful....food selections were limited but with more than a acceptable variety.....Hostess and wait staff were very pleasant...building looked good, hardwood floors are very nice and bathrooms were clean.....that is the good news...the bad news is the wait staff needs to be better trained. You do not carry the steak knives out to the customer in your apron pocket...that is not hygienic nor very professional looking....make sure the table is properly dressed (flatware and napkins) before customers are seated.....try to bring the bread with your visit to the table with the customers drinks this avoids you forgetting it and having to be asked for it during dinner.... To the Kitchen staff ...while the building is set up to avoid sound spillage into dining areas it is not avoided in the ladies room (which I would guess shares a common wall with kitchen?) dropping the f-bomb and loud raucous laughter while sounding fine to the kitchen staff is a bit disconcerting while trying to use the facilities. (Whisper to owner) you have a great place here work a little on training your staff and you will be fine. I know I intend to return. read more
