    Cup Clam Chowder
    Cindy Y.

Nice cozy atmosphere, good menu selection for food and drink, friendly service. Had a cup of clam chowder and a Rueben. Both were tasty. The French fries were fresh cut, but soggy. All in all a decent experience and would come back if ever in Newport.

Went back and talked to Patrick as requested. Had another drink and really loved the second experience. Love the outside area especially when the weather was so nice!

Popped in here during our stay in Newport for a light lunch and my first time trying clam chowder, I heard this place was the best! It did not disappoint! I got a cup and it was large and decently priced but I wish I got a bowl because wow!!!! I didn't even need the oyster crackers, there was so much clams in it! I'm gonna be thinking about this for the rest of my life back in Texas!

The Black Pearl is a great spot on Bannister's Wharf for a meal or a cocktail. They have a large outdoor patio perfect for alfresco dining. The staff was quick and nice. My husband and I decided to split a few appetizers so we got the crab cakes, fries, Caesar salad, and clam chowder. It was a great lunch and I would definitely recommend eating here on your trip to Newport!

Went for Sunday brunch in early April. Nice crowd for off season. Sat outside in tent. This place is not cheap. Breakfast potatoes were incredible We paid the check, then waiter says he f'ed up and forgot to charge a round. How does a server get alcoholic drinks at a restaurant without ringing them in? Not very professional after the fact. A reasonably priced lunch turned into excessively priced one.

Good spot overall. Definitely came for the outdoor patio, as it's in a prime location and is covered in case of inclement weather! I got the challah bread to start, pictured here, which was to die for. So light and fluffy, cooked to perfection, and buttery smooth as well. Melted in my mouth and I could have eaten four or five of these bad boys! Also got a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp - thankfully there were four shrimp but the salad portion was smaller than expected, for what the salad cost, I expected more than a side salad portion of lettuce. It was delightfully tasty, though, and the perfect dinner after a long adventurous day! Service was phenomenal, and again, the outdoor patio has a great atmosphere.

This place does not get the best reviews and as a tourist spot i guess I understand but I can tell you that my clam chowder and little neck clams were spectacular. Our service was great and the ambiance in this place is very rustic and feels like it fits the vibe it is trying to portray. Our waiter was so good at suggesting items and working with us. My experience could not have been any better.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. Right on the pier in a very old and historic building. Had clams and Cesar salads and both were excellent.

Came here off of a recommendation from a friend. We got the Garlic Parmesan Frites, Spinach Artichoke Dip, and Crab Cake as apps. The aioli that came with the fries was delicious and so was the crab cake (though it was a little pricier). I tried the Mussels Black Pearl and was decently surprised! The butter/broth was delicious with the mussels and the bread and the mussels tasted fresh, not fishy at all. Our server was very nice and attentive, always checked up on us. However, there are only two single women's restrooms which led to a long line down a very narrow hallway in the middle of the restaurant.

The absolute best chowder of my life hands down. Apple cinnamon mimosa! Classic decor. Super friendly staff. Highly recommended

Visiting Newport? This is the quintessential wharf spot- but the service has much to be desired. However, the food is fairly priced and freshly prepared based on our party's experience. We made reservations for the Annex to eat outdoors on a beautiful July evening. We were seated early, but service from there was not as pleasant. Our party included a friend with serious food allergies and our server was short with us on our questions. We ordered drinks and an appetizer for the table- our server alluded to forgetting to send the app in while passing. When we asked to add something to the order she informed the table that she was "kinda busy" and when checking in or delivering items, she walked and talked in passing rather than being attentive. We, unfortunately, were made to feel that we were a bother rather than guests. The food was fine- the highlights: spinach and artichoke appetizer had a lovely bread to dip with, cocktails were tasty, and two of us got the lobster salad croissant and it was very tasty. Everyone has tough nights, but when there are so many options along the wharfs and in town, customer service is what elevates the dining experience in the high season. Try it out- maybe your service will be better than our- I highly recommend that you make reservations if visiting in the summer!

This year was no different than the other years and I love how the menu continues to evolve and change and everything that comes to life from the menu to the table is well thought out and bursting with harmonious blends of flavor. The presentation is gorgeous too! Plating is also important and they nail it! Okay let's gooooo! Come join our dining experience! We tried a bit of everything! We loved every bit of it. I'll mention my faves but that doesn't take away how hard it was to choose a fave! Everything was DELICIOUS ! Raw bar: Jamestown oysters . We had 10. We can't get enough east coast oysters. We live in the west side and I cannot say enough how much better oysters are on east coast! Slurp ! Mmm! Snacks: 1. Shartner's Farm Carrots: pea green pesto, pine nut, n'duja . If you're a meat, potato and pasta person and try to avoid your veggies, don't do that here. GET IT! It's such a great melody of textures and flavors that pair well. It doesn't feel like you are eating carrots and regardless it's a very dressed up bougie delicious carrot plate ! Mmmm . One of my faves out of the snacks. 2. Narragansett Creamery Burrata: green strawberry, speck, basil. Creamy, vibrant and just delicious Pasta: only had room in our tummies for 1 but every year we try different pastas and never disappoints. This year no exception. Maltagliati- hopkins southdowns lamb sugo, swiss chard, harissa, umbrian chickpea. Excellent! Pasta was perfect texture and consistency!! Little touch of spice from harissa which I loved (not overpowering). The Swiss chard was cooked to a crispy texture which I loved. I was a bit nervous about the lamb because it really can vary from place to place. However, I should have known better being from here they cooked/braised it to perfection: melt in your mouth type of soft and no weird or gamey taste. Definitely delicious pasta I recommend. Plates: 1. Duck Leg Confit- japanese turnip, spigariello kale, huckleberry conserva, duck jus. Personally my faves of the two plates but both delicious. The crispy skin from the duck and tender flavorful duck meat was just to die for. Loooooved. Plus the turnips and the amazing huckleberry conserva! Thinking about it makes my mouth water. So so good. 2. Beef Short Rib-swiss chard erbazzone, sunchoke, hazelnut. Loved it. Tasty as expected. Great flavor and tender. Dessert: 1. Olive Oil Cake- strawberry, rosé, lime curd, basil gelato. Wow! Oh wow! I'm so happy this time around they have some cake options. I love olive oil cake and now to pair with a basil gelato sounds insane right? Holy cow! Soooo good! Not what I was expecting. Strawberry, rose, lime and basil gelato flavor all work well together in this dessert. My fave dessert of the night! TRY IT! 2. Cookies N' cream: narragansett creamery ricotta, chocolate biscotti- yummy! Tasted like an elevated cookies and cream ! We loved our experience! Hopefully when you visit here, you can enjoy it as much as we do year after year. I absolutely love this place. We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. The steak was a beautiful cut of meat, well marbled, cooked to perfection and seared so nicely. It was sooo tasty and seared with Malden salt. We are pretty snobby when it comes to steak and this was probably the best steak I've ever had out at a restaurant. The scallops similarly were cooked and seared perfectly and seasoned correctly.
