Only place in town to get New York style pizza. Not as good as the since closed New York Pizzeria but are using the same sauce recipe, which is excellent. Service is great as well and it's smack dab in the middle of the south central part of town so it's close for most. read more

The Big Slice is perhaps the best pizza experience in town. Great crust texture, flavorful sauce and freshly grated mozzarella. Being able to get it by the slice is also a Godsend. The Mediterranean veggie is amazing. The pepperoni slices are HUGE (expect grease) and the creamy spinach is sinful. You certainly cannot get "much" better pizza in town like another reviewer stated. You can get somewhat comparable pizza at Garbo's or Pappo's but that's really it. read more

I give this place a 1 star because they have terrible service. I have been a customer for a very long time, since they were the old store called New York Pizza. And the food is delicious, but the service is bad. I was waiting for my pizza today and I waited like 10 minutes and I was one of maybe 3 customers? She finally brought it to me and said "it was just sitting in the oven." It was all burnt and black, but it was still yummy so I didn't complain. Moral of the story, if you come here, expect to have shitty service. read more

Im burnt out on pizza. Especially all the really bad generic pizza around here. But this place is great. The crust is perfect and its like eating really great bread. Its wonderful. Second, their sauce is tangy perfection. I love how you can just stop in and grab one slice. They heat it up in the oven and its hot hot hot and fabulous. You will crave this place once you try it. Found out about Big Slice from word of mouth. People in a microbrewery were eating it, it looked good, and I asked them where they got it. They were from New York and they said Big Slice is the best in town. Had Garden of Eaten and Supreme Ruler. It is the best in town!! Crust is excellent, ingredients such as pepperoni were first rate, sauce was good, and portions were generous. Arras is a distant, distant second. read more

I really like this place and have been going almost since they opened. As of this review though, the service has really taken a hit as has the pizza. Burnt crust, burnt cheese etc. I believe the owners know this and are working to make improvements now. Their nice guys and always friendly. Maybe it's just growing pains but it needs sorted rapidly to keep loyals coming back. I'll keep going and repost once the issues have been sorted out. read more

Total dissapointment all the way around. My friend and I had been talking about going here for a while, so, we were really wanting to like this place. We were excited for some quality pizza. We came in at about 7pm on a weeknight. It wasn't empty but it wasn't too packed, either. The staff behind the counter were too busy to notice us come in because they were enthralled in a deep personal discussion about their personal lives but hey, totally forgivable, right? Sure, if that was the only thing that was wrong with this place. We each ordered two cheese slices. I saw a moderately fresh cheese pizza on the rack, and then 1/4 of an old, stail, dried up excuse for a pizza that had probably been sitting there since they opened. You guessed it, they gave us the garbage pizza slices. They were dry and flavorless. To add insult to injury, before we were even half way through the first slice, one of the cooks pulls two fresh cheese pizzas out of the oven and puts them on the by-the-slice rack. I've been to a lot of these types of pizzerias and I'm used to being offered the option of waiting a little for something fresher or at least given something better than what should've been thrown out after the lunch crowd. Why give potential new, frequent customers 4 slices of your worst product when you could easily have given them something already made and worth coming back for? There is too many good pizza joints in Springfield to waste your time with this place. read more

I am not picky with pizza, like at all, but this place was just awful. Each piece was a sopping mess and tasted like the pizza I used to eat in my high school cafeteria. The cheese is abnormally greasy and all of the ingredients are obviously the absolute cheapest the place can get their hands on. The garlic knots tasted like raw dough. What a mess. read more

The food should be the star here, but it's just typical pizza house stuff. Plenty of creative names and descriptions but truly it's just very old pizza languishing under dirty plexi glass awaiting your request for a three minute reheat in the oven. But if you were to just grab a pie and go you would be happy and that's why I'm giving this place two stars. But two other issues are why I can't be more generous. The first is the staff. And, man oh man, I hate to even mention it because I love and appreciate diversity, but you just *have* to have cleanliness and professionalism in a kitchen. I've given this place three chances and all three times I've never seen more grubby people preparing people in all my life. Dirty sneakers, open toed shoes, open shirts with exposed chest hair, wild loose hair styles, and a tattoo parade. The next thing is atmosphere, which ties back into the staff, as they were banging on the surfaces, slamming the oven doors, and generally creating noise trying to keep beat with the overly loud hard rock radio station playing overhead. This isn't a pleasant dining experience. It's for tokers. Don't bring your kids here, and if you want to get a slice to go that's for the best. Do it quick, they probably won't be in business for very long. read more

This place is amazing. The food is delicious, from the Sausage pizza to the garlic knots. I am from NY and this is just like a pizzeria from home, from ordering a slice to a whole pizza pie. Funny story, my father has been waiting and waiting for this place to open, he drives by it every weekend and has been watching the place at the corner of the shopping center, finally he comes home Monday and looks it up online to see when they will open and sees that is it is open now. We drive over for dinner last night, pull up (in front of the "new location") to see that it's still not open.....we never even noticed the "old" location 2 doors down!!! My mom sees it and thankfully we finally get to try a really big slice of pizza at The Big Slice! He was very happy. The pizza's are humongous!!!! The crust is delicious, the toppings good! I had the supreme ruler and really liked it, one slice is all I needed. Dad had the Jamaican Me Spicy and said it was very good, not as spicy as he'd like it but he loves super hot foods so understand that. Mom had the lasagna and garlic knots and only ate 1/3rd and was full. The only thing I did not like was the Pepperoni Pin Wheels, way too greasy for my tastes and just smelling them gave me heartburn, but that is just my personal tastes. All in all, we will be back, glad to see they are open and now my dad is kicking himself for never seeing the original location (its been open for 4 years! LOL) read more

Pizza is ok, but the employees need much better training. Every time I've been there, I constantly see all of the employees wearing gloves in the dining room, wearing gloves while taking money, and touching their clothing with gloves on. That alone would have stopped me from going back, but my husband really likes the pizza, so I decided to give it another shot. I showed up 45 minutes after calling in my order, as I was instructed to do. After taking my money, the cashier didn't check to see if it was ready or ask anyone for it. After sitting there for 20 minutes, someone came and asked what my order was and then told me they never received it. A minute later, someone found it on top of an oven. It had been there the whole time. Now I've wasted 20 minutes of my life and I have old pizza. In their defense, they did offer a refund, but I knew if I stayed there any longer, I would start going off about the lack of basic hygiene, so I declined. This place could be good with some type of management. Until then, I'll get pizza elsewhere. read more

Walked in and immediately got off on the wrong foot as the girl at the counter didn't greet us, just kept working on what she was doing. That's just irritating. They were swamped, we placed our order and sat at a dirty table that the same girl promised she'd come clean. She did, 30 minutes later. Finally got our pizza, a very inexpensive 12 inch cheese (2 slices had pepperoni on it per my request, which I wasn't charged for). I was annoyed with the service and wait and wanted to hate the pizza but I totally couldn't. Even my extremely picky kids, hence the cheese pizza, said it was amazing. The crust is so deliciously crispy and chewy at the same time, it's just fabulous. We also got garlic knots, which I wanted to love because they are so cheap, but just wasn't impressed. We will definitely be back, though will probably carry-out. Staff is friendly, even the girl at the counter who seemed simply overwhelmed with the volume of business they were doing, was nice despite the lack of a greeting when we got there. The rest of the staff didn't seemed fazed, and were able to work and hold steady streams of conversation with people dining in as well as coming in to carry-out. I can't wait to go back without the kids and get something more grown-up than plain cheese. The only thing that would make the pizza better would be some garlic butter dipping sauce for that crust! read more

I felt that this place warranted a second chance as I visited early in it's entry into the market. We visited on a Sunday afternoon about noon, and didn't experience much of a wait but weren't the only people in the building by any means. We ordered an 18" Burt Reynolds (I hate the awful names, but whatever) and frankly, it was delicious. The service was fine at the register, and all the staff was friendly. Honestly, I was pretty impressed with the pizza. They make everything as you come in (unless you get a slice or the knots) so there is a little bit of a wait, but nothing more than a normal restaurant. The crust was chewy but not burnt and it had a good proportion of sauce and toppings. We will probably be back! The 18" is huge- like I had one piece and BF had two, then we took the other 6 slices home. Give them a shot! The only reason for 4 stars is that I am not a fan of the paper plates- I think there are more creative ways to present your creation than paper plates but that's just me. read more

My husband and I have had our eye on this place for awhile and our only regret is that we wish we would've tried this out sooner! It was so delicious! I had the Supreme Ruler and my husband had The Mongo! It was served hot and fresh and did not disappoint! And you can't beat the price! The staff is super friendly!
