    House Salad

Blown away by the fantastic salad! So many flavor layers and a very generous portion:) Love! My spaghetti with meat balls were also a home run. Are the whole thing before I remembered I should have taken a picture. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

After an afternoon checking out all the fun things we were starving and someone recommended Garbo's . Pizza always sounds good so off we went. I was surprised to see not a soul in sight besides the bartender and a waitress. The location is bright and open. Good size bar area with a large amount of seating both up and downstairs. We ordered a house salad, pizza, sandwiches and pasta. Our salad was so freaking good. Super fresh, just the right amount of veggies and dressing mixed in. Delicious. Our pizza was good, but the crust was more thin than I normally would like. Good flavor though. The salad was my favorite part. My younger kids really liked their pasta and my son said his sandwich was one of the best he's ever had. Service was good and our waitress was friendly.

I noticed this place while walking around one day and made it my mission to eat here! I have to say that it was absolutely worth it! I had a mushroom pizza with half bacon! It truly was delicious. The wait was not long at all & our wait staff was really attentive & nice.

Love this place . Best house salad ever . I have been here only 2 times so far but I just found out about it a week ago . I usually just get the one topping pizza and house salad and always amazing . I tried the bread sticks last time and They was great also . I usually just walk in and haven't had a problem with waiting or anything s

    Garbos baked sub

The debate over St. Loius style crust, sauce and provel cheese blends will not appear in this review. People have strong opinions on who servers the best St. Louis style pizza here in Springfield and I don't wish to enter into that conversation. For me what really stands out here at Garbo's are the baked subs and the salad's. The bread used in the baked subs is very good and holds up to the baking process. Another thing I enjoy is that Canadian Bacon and roast beef are the main meats on these subs. Now I must say if you like Canadian Bacon this is one of the few places that highlight it as a sandwich meat. They also offer a good selection of regular subs and pasta selections. As I said before not going to get into the St. Louis style pizza debate but there sure seems to be a lot of people that enjoy their version of it. The place is clean, with a cozy downstairs dining area, and friendly staff. There is also a small bar area if you are dining alone. For bigger parties there is an upstairs dining area that offers some privacy. Garbo's has been around for quite awhile in the Chesterfield Village center, and has a loyal following. For new comers and those that have issues with street parking, there is a large parking lot in back of the complex that will put you right at the side entrance.

Try the new cauliflower pizza crust - very yum yum and I don't like cauliflower. The crust is thin, crunchy, and just the right amount of sauce. I added hamburger. YUMMY.

This is the second half of my calzone. It's even better the second day! Chicken spinach artichoke calzone with Alfredo sauce!

The second batch came out with an overcooked outside. These could be good for what they are...but simple execution lacks. - Wedge Salad - never had one of these with balsamic all over it. Way too much. Then, no actual dressing and sole blue cheese chunks. I ate it....but sure got tired of the odd balsamic taste. Rasta Pasta - edible but not the good flavor it used to have. Fries - This place used to have the best fries. Well, now, door out of the bag double coating fey version. Uhm....no...notta...not special at all like they used to be. Any number of the old Grad School location menu items...no longer available. Not a place I need to go any longer. Unfortunate....as again....it used to be a killer place.

We were pretty much immediately greeted and told that we can sit where we'd like. We found a table and had a seat. The waitress took our drink order and went to go do her thing. Maybe 10 or 15 minutes later she came back with our drinks at last. I always hate eating dinner at places that are primarily a bar because the service is usually terrible and that's pretty much how it went with our visit. 45 minutes after ordering our food , we were still waiting on it, even our appetizer, and our drinks were in a constant state of needing a refill with the waitress nowhere to be found. I planned to have a couple mixed drinks while I was there, to try some different things, so they literally lost money by not coming back to the table to check on us. I didn't have the opportunity to order more drinks. The food finally arrived. My sad potato with chicken was nothing special and was pretty small for the price. My husband didn't like his food. I can't recall what he got. The manager was nice when he swung by, but by the time he came, the damage was already done. The whole visit was disappointing. We won't be back. This place really hasn't changed from what it was before they changed names and ownership. It was disappointing before and it remains so.

What evidence do I have to support my contention? I'm glad you asked. Exhibit A, and without question the restaurant's Pièce De Résistance, is the lentil chili. Now, I know what you're thinking - chili is supposed to contain meat and only a communist would proffer such a vaunted title on a vegan dish. Right? I used to think the same way, but the delicious balance of chili seasoning and fearless heat of Pickleman's take on this classic makes it one of my go-to late night dishes when I'm hanging out downtown. Exhibit B is composed of the salad selection, which features options to suit many tastes, all of which contain genuinely fresh vegetables in addition to their specific peculiarities. That may seem like a simple thing, but seasoned salad eaters know it can be rare, indeed. It may seem weird to lead off a review of a sandwich and pizza place with two options that are neither, but I've honestly never had any reason to venture beyond that side of the menu because they're both so delicious. And that they do those things so well is more than enough reason for me to juice their rating, whatever failings other reviewers have experienced notwithstanding.
