I saw the 3.5, and had to leave a review. This place is the best in Springfield. I spent at least 4 days of lunch here growing up as a kid, and the quality only continues to amaze me. I love that everything in this location is original, still miss the Sunshine location. I pray it never disappears in my lifetime. I highly recommend stopping in and try the house dressing. Never compromising quality compared to other nearby restaurants. Mandatory stop if new to town. read more

Not great. When we got there we were the only two people in the restaurant for quite a while, then a party of 20 people came in that they weren't prepared for. Took way too long to get the food, it was not hot, and they got my order wrong (they were quick to fix it, but the fact that when we placed our order the place was basically dead and they still got it wrong...) The waitress was nice, but I think they genuinely forgot we were there for a good while, and the food is definitely not good enough to warrant the price. read more

You can turn this review into 4+ stars very simply! Go back to using the high quality ingredients that were used in the 1980's it was awesome back then. Make the salad the same way and don't run out of sprouts! Make the homemade ranch! Use the old school sauce recipe! If you go back to what works you can regain the following you use to have! Got Cardboard? I was visiting Springfield and we were in the mood for pizza. I remembered eating McSaltys wheat crust pizzas growing up and how good they were. Well NOT anymore. The staff was friendly but the pizza was horrible. My first clue should have been when there were only 2 people dining inside and the 2nd being how light the take out box felt. The pizza had little to no sauce, cheese or toppings. We each had 1 slice and threw the rest away as it wasn't worth the calories. Very disappointing. read more

We moved out of the area quite a few years ago so haven't been here in a while First off the bear pie had an excellent taste, was fully cooked and included the toppings we requested. Secondly we ordered it easy on the sauce AND cheese. It arrived with normal cheese and easy sauce. Cheese is difficult for some to eat so when a customer asks to have less don't make it the same way you always do or at least use LESS cheese! I pulled half the cheese off my pieces before I could eat them which is messy, wasteful and annoying. Thirdly we saw our server when we arrived to get our drink order, when she brought the drinks, when she took our food order, when she brought the order, a quick fly by to see how we were doing then to bring the check. If I had wanted to return the pizza for the excessive cheese I would have had to do her job for her or go find someone else to help us. Lastly please offer more than one option of soda that doesn't have caffeine and caramel color. Not everyone likes or can consume tea, coffee or other drinks that are heavy and some people are smart enough not to consume caffeine so close to bedtime. Disappointed. Came in the the lady for date night. Was promptly seated to a nearly empty dining room. The hostess / waitress brought us the menus and took our drink order. The menus were pretty much falling apart but readable. We ordered a single topping 10 inch pie with burger as the topping. Plus a salad for the lady. About 5 minutes later the lady got her salad around 15ish we got our pie. Lady said the salad was good for a standard salad and we both really liked the Pizza. Where thing fell apart was the service and experience. The server wasn't around much. A few other tables came in and we pretty much got forgotten. No refills, even with the hey eye contact, no visit. Literally had to go ask for a check. So service hurt. While we had time to look around this place has gotten rough. Christmas lights for decorations need to go. Not sure what color the carpet use to be but its looks very bad these days. Ceiling fan paddle things are cool looking but one is broken off with pieces of duct tap still hanging from the empty pole. Lights were kept pretty dim and we were starting to think we knew why. Love the pizza, service needs a wake-up and the location needs a refresh. I like the wheat crust pizza here. Mcsalty's has been around a long time. I like the food. The owner is a very nice guy who is humble and appreciative of your business. Most of the staff seem to be college students. They are friendly and pleasant. The only downside is sometimes they are not as attentive as you might want. That aside I like Mcsalty's and they have good food at a good price. Great place for families and extended family get togethers. read more

The pizza is very good, lots of toppings and very good crust. We ordered the "cheesy bread" appetizer which was a disappointment. Basically a small hoagie bun with melted cheese, could not taste any seasonings, very tasteless and for $4.59, not what we expected. This pizza place could do much better. I've heard so many people say to go to McSalty's. I've lived here for 8 years, but I'm from New York, so I'm a very bad pizza snob. People said: "this place will shut you up!". Well, it didn't. Compared to New York pizza: 0 stars. Awful. So if you are visiting from such places, avoid. Compared to Springfield area pizza: 3 stars. Nothing special. If you are a local, it's probably okay. The dough is under-proofed, leading to a cracker like crust. For a place in business so long, you'd think they wouldn't under-proof. They also use a wheat flour, which is interesting in theory but it was unremarkable in taste. The sauce was virtually non-existent - I could barely taste any. Was there any on the pizza? If there was, they used an eye-dropper to put it on. They put cheddar on the pizza (good lord) and the other cheeses were sub-standard and cheap. The mushrooms were clearly out of a can (seriously?). The meat (sausage and beef, I think) were boring and lacked in much taste. Essentially, it was like a decent frozen food section pizza. Not impressed. You might also be interested to know that given the sub-standard pizza, it's also very overpriced. Very. Save your money - if this is the kind of pizza you like, go to Pizza Hut or some other chain. You'll get the same thing for less. read more

The best things about this place was the service- we had a group of 16 of us and they were very accommodating and incredibly nice. We had the cheesy bread app which had no flavor and was quite boring, and the sauce was cold. My cousin got a salad and she had said it wasn't like it use to be. Our pizza was okay- we just got a supreme style. It was like eating a frozen pizza. Nothing special, I wouldn't recommend this place and I wouldn't return. I was disappointed. read more

We have been coming to Mcsaltys for years. It has recently gone downhill. The amount of food as well as the quality has decreased. Burnt sandwiches with little to nothing on it. Not sure what happened but hopefully it gets sorted out soon. Waitress was not great and did not have appropriate clothing on to be serving food. read more

My review is similar to many others that are on here. Good food. Good atmosphere. Horrible customer service. Call in orders are a pain and take forever. They offer delivery but tell you it's a 2 hour wait. Then when you pick up your food it's not ready and they are not even busy. I will only go here anymore as a last resort. read more

OK we all agree, they have great Pizza, They've been making them here since '79. The Bear Pie (by far my favorite) is the perfect combination of Canadian Bacon, Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, Onion, Green Pepper and Black Olives on a thick Wheat Crust, wonderful. Nick, Ruell, and Ned the Band Use to play every Friday and Saturday Night at this location but stopped a couple months ago. There was a rumor I heard that they might be coming back soon but the restaurant would not confirm this. read more

Just walked in for a late lunch at 1:36 pm. They weren't busy. Was seated and sat there for 13 minutes of my lunch hour. No one came to my table. Not very impressive service.
