Walking into The Hill -- Springfield's all-you-can-eat Italian spot -- I wasn't totally sure what…read moreto expect. I pictured something like the love child of Olive Garden and Golden Corral. Thankfully, it's not that. Not even close. The interior leans cute and slightly rustic, with a New-York-Italian soundtrack of Sinatra and Dean Martin covers setting the tone. The buffet itself is smaller than you might imagine, but it gets the job done: grab your drink, grab a plate, and dive in. You'll find the usual starters lined up -- soup, salad, breadsticks, fried ravioli, chips with spinach-artichoke dip -- then move on to the fun part: à-la-carte pastas and sauces. They've got everything from classic white sauce and marinara to vodka sauce and meatballs. There's even fried chicken pieces so you can build your own take on chicken parm. Vegan and veggie-friendly options are surprisingly solid: roasted Brussels sprouts, glazed carrots, and a legitimately tasty butternut squash casserole. The sausage risotto was another pleasant standout. Desserts aren't homemade (and they aren't pretending to be -- they're still in the cardboard trays), but they do offer hand-scooped ice cream from the staff, which is a nice touch. Service-wise, the greeter was great. The rest? Fine. Our server didn't look thrilled to be there, but honestly...it's a weekday lunch buffet. Expectations adjusted accordingly. Overall, The Hill delivers a charming vibe, some solid buffet options, and a few dishes that are genuinely worth going back for. If you're craving casual, customizable Italian comfort food, it's worth a stop.

It's a small place, but also had plenty of room as well. The decor was mostly art for sale from local artists. Our orders were taken quickly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I liked that with the bread you get a plate of garlic, and there are bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table. My wife got the crab cakes and pasta, while I got The Momma. Both were very good, and with good-sized portions that we were able to take in leftover boxes. Service was mostly good, except our college-age server was slow to get soda refills. But otherwise everything was great

We got in after 30 minutes of arrival, which is fine. We got our food after 45 minutes of ordering, which is ok. They gave us some white bread that looked good with a plate of minced garlic. It looked so good and we were excited, as soon as we touched the bread it was cold to the touch. We were expecting at least warm bread. So it wasn't great and we didn't even eat it all for the first time of our existence. Then we order an appetizer, the garlic cheese bread... I had one piece and was done my husband at 5 pieces and was done. The bread had an ok texture but the flavor seriously lacked, there was 0 taste of garlic and it had a strange cheese taste, definitely regret ordering it, debating whether we should box it up to go or not... yikes! I don't know how you mess up cheese bread but they did. My husband order the New Yorker panini, he stated that the bread was bad and it was way too salty overall and he loves salt. He only ate one half, and the pasta salad he got as a side, it was ok to say the least and lacked flavor as well. I ordered the toasted ravioli appetizer as my meal, and it was kind of fine. It was barely lukewarm, the crust was crunchy and good but the beef was barely seasoned. Plus side it is big portions, bad thing is it wasn't good so now we're left with bad big portions. The ambiance is chill and it gets very loud where you can't hear the other to converse. The only Italian thing about this place is the name. We will not be back and we wasted our money because it was not cheap at all. Very sad and disappointing. If I could give it .5 review I would.

Off street parking availble around the building. The ambiance was nice overall. Restaurant downstairswas dimly lit. We took the stairs to the 2nd floor event space (there are plenty stairs, no elevator up). The space had a dedicated bar with private bartender for the evening. The tables were covered with black tablecloths, however, the chairs were left bare. I would have brought chair covers if I had known. The table settings were also done nicely. Our bartenders/server was great!!! She was able to handle both the bar and food service without a hiccup. She was very attentive to our needs but not overbearing. Great service from beginning to end. Now the food. For the space, you get to pick what menu items you want for appetizer, salad, entree and dessert. Service is available two ways: buffet or plated. The buffet option comes with one pan of whatever food items you choose and guests serves themselves. They don't designate servers. So, we chose the plated option to ensure even portions among guests. A printed menu with our selections was created and placed for guests to order. The food was amazing. Each meal came out fresh and hot. The portions were a nice size, some large enough for two people to share. Everyone was pleased with their choices overall. The food was seasoned and paired well. The only dislike of the night was the peas in the veggie pasta. Everyone who ordered this dish mentioned it and ended up picking them out. The highlight and meal of the night was the pork chop. Cooked to selected temp, the chop was juicy and full of flavor. The fresh mango pico de gallo topping was an added bonus that made this dish top of the list. Overall, the experience was great, well organized. If I'm ever in town again, I'll definitely revisit.

The meatballs: These are an excellent meatball and an excellent sauce. These aren't some rolled meat with salt and pepper. These meatballs have an excellent herb accented flavor and taste wonderful. Alfredo Carbonara: Again, a fantastic dish. Very rich flavor with a good dose of prosciutto accent. Tomato Bisque: This isn't some Sysco product they're putting out - this stuff is a real deal, made from scratch bisque. A very balanced flavor with a good depth of texture....not some watery kind of soup. Cannolis: desert will (not) disappoint. The cannoli cream is a nice flavor...with a slight orange zest touch. I've always loved this place. The food may not always come out super fast. But so what, so long as the food comes out right....and I'll sure say....the food comes out great!
