While eating i overheard a customer debating with an employee about a charge that she definitely was not supposed to be charged. The young lady originally setup her order for delivery but changed it to take out, they took off the delivery fee but not the tip for the delivery. The employee questioned her "why would you want to remove the tip" and the customer explained exactly that there was no delivery done. The employee look totally disgusted, asking to rerun her card for the refund and customer questioned back if the delivery fee can be removed why can't the tip? Best pizza in town. New York style thin crust is perfect and allows the fresh sauce and toppings to come through. My favorite is the plain cheese. Having grown up in the New York metro area this is the kind of pizza I expect. No cheap imitations here! You must try it. I recommend trying a plain cheese by the slice first to set the standard. Add toppings later. Hint: buy more than you will eat the first day. Bake leftovers at 425 in a preheated oven the next day. It comes out perfectly!! So disappointed. Visiting Springfield and craving NY style pizza. Dough is thick. Pizza not bad but the place is a disheveled mess and looks like no one has cleaned it in years. Flour on the floor in dining area. The back rooms look like horrible mess. It is so run down. Clean it and organize it. No trash can by the beverages to throw your the paper off your straw in.Their baking supplies are stacked all over the place in a mess not neat and are in the area you eat in. Lots of staff. No customers. Lots of time to clean! Staff not friendly or inviting at all. They are friendlier in NY. Plants in window are dead! Get rid of them! Staff burping out loud. Very loud. They gave me the wrong order. I'll admit I haven't had a completely wrong order in so long I did not think to check before driving away. I went back and got the right order, they did not offer me any kind of special service as an apology. I did not ask for anything and would have turned them down if they offered, but it's courteous to make amends for a mistake. The pizza was very tough and chewy, and somehow so was the cinnamon roll. I don't even know how you manage to make a cinnamon roll tough. The pinwheels were alright as the dough they use for those was paper thin. One slice is almost always enough to hit the spot, but if not the cinnamon knots will always satisfy me. They have tons if drink options too. I have not been to every pizza joint in Springfield, but I have been to enough to know that this is one of the best. The slices are big, and delicious even when they are cooked a little crispier. First visit, heard about how wonderful the pizza was from several friends. We told the employee at the counter it was our first time and asked how you ordered. Order at the counter, menu is on the wall. Go find a seat and they deliver the food. Pizza is already cooked if you order by the slice, they heat it up. Have to walk by several food coolers to sit, tables were dirty, customer service was poor. Food was decent. Strange experience, eating in, salad is served in to-go container. This is by far the best pizza in Springfield. They have an excellent variety of individual slices or you can order a whole pizza if you prefer. The pizza is always fresh and they are generous with the toppings. My favorite is the Burt Reynolds which is their take on a BBQ chicken pizza except there is Canadian Bacon instead of chicken. While the pizza is consistent the salads are not. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I get take out from this place a lot and I have ordered Cesar salads that were fresh and flavorful and crisp and I have been given others that were mushy and half frozen in places. If it only happened once I wouldn't have cared but it has happened a few times. You are welcomed by the greeter behind the counter and they are friendly! Lots of dining in the back of the restaurant. Super friendly staff! I live a little outside their delivery zone (which is amazing they deliver now!) and they made an exception for me just because it was a holiday weekend! Frankly, I cannot for the life of me figure out why people are just absolutely raving about this place. I think a lot of the reason I was so let down byThe Big Slice is because it was so hyped up. When you're built up to believe that you are going to have the most amazing pizza you've ever had (especially being a pizza connoisseur) and your initial experience is sub-par, save downright disgusting, it is a real dissappointment. I will admit that at its core, the pizza is pretty good, even quite a bit above average. The problem is all of the layers of muck that one has to peel through to get to the core experience. I feel that with some alterations, TBS could be an enjoyable dining experience. The very first thing I noticed when walking through the door for the first time was a blast of an aroma that, quite honestly, can only be described as body odor. Now, it's a scientific fact that the human nose, when subjected to a smell consistently for four minutes, will adapt to that smell and it will no longer be noticable. Therefore, I was able to overcome this initial "inconvenience" in order to achieve my primary objective. Once greeted (which I will admit, the workers are friendly and polite, so that's a plus) I ordered a slice of supreme, an order of garlic knots and a Coke. Upon receiving my order, I decided to start with the garlic knots, only to discover where the smell of body odor was originating from. The first thing that needs to change is the garlic knot recipe. That, or completely do away with them. The next problem was the grease. Katie D. pretty much sums it up. You fold it up and the grease just comes pouring out both ends. I'm no culinary expert, but whatever ingredient is producing all that grease needs to be changed to, well, not produce so much grease. The final problem is the flimsy paper plates that they serve the pizza on. As my wife pointed out, its pretty disgusting when you realize that you're basically eating the pizza right off the table because the grease has pretty much soaked through the plate and left nothing in its wake. Beyond that, the pizza is actually pretty good. You'll notice I have rated this place 2 stars. If they manage to fix these three things: 1) nasty knots, 2) overly greasy pizza and 3) flimsy paper plates, I'll gladly award the remaining three stars. Heck, I may even eat there again (assuming I'm not run off by an angry mob). read more

I don't think Big Slice makes the best New York-style pizza, but they are definitely the best in Springfield and my preferred pizza place. Oh. My. Goodness....best pizza ever. I ordered the Sicilian and had to wait 30 minutes, but absolutely worth the wait. The crust was chewy and crisp, sauce was delicious and the cheese stretched all over the place. The staff told me that if you call ahead and order the Sicilian, they will make it right away and the wait will not be as long. They will do that even if you order just a slice!!!!
