I've come to visit this place a few times and I thoroughly enjoy it! The ambience is great, they often have great bartenders and the staff can be great! I will say that last time though, one of the waitstaff made it very clear she did not want to be at work and it was a very awkward situation. When I asked when last call was, she said "right now" which was interesting as no one had shared that with us. When asked if we could have a minute or two to decide our final order, she responded with "oh sure, it's not like I want to go home" and then walked away. By the time someone else came back to us, we were informed we would no longer be able to order drinks. So, usually a top recommendation from me but I wouldn't want someone to encounter a situation like this as well. read more

Had the BEST time visiting The Better Man Distillery!! Happened to be walking by when we saw a wedding inside and stopped by after it opened to the public. Best cocktail I've had in Blue Point/Patchogue by far. Ambience, design, lighting, furniture is 10/10. Would think you're in a high-end modern hotel lobby. They converted the bar/distillery from the original Blue Point Brewery. Comfortable seating, super friendly wait staff. Best part is that it's owned and run by a local Long Island family. So happy to support this small & upcoming business. Go for the dirty Martini or ask Stephen to create a drink for you based on your preferred liquor (gin, vodka, and whiskey made in house) and taste (cucumber, orange, mint, etc...). This place has such a great atmosphere inside and out. Just loved the outdoor seating area! There are many places to sit and keep warm with heaters. There was a live band inside and they opened the doors and we were able to enjoy the music as well (since we sat outside). The staff was nothing but very nice! The drinks were really unique and delicious except when it came time for the bill. We had a group of 4 people and we each had 2 drinks. We got the bill (or shall I say she told us amount and did NOT provide us the bill) and it was for $197. 8 drinks for $197? Drinks are delicious however not the price. It also didn't quite calculate because no drink was over $20 that we ordered. With that, we won't be going here again but if you don't mind spending a lot of money on drinks, it's a great place to hang out and drink! read more

This is by far my new favorite place in the Patchogue scene, and I have been a local resident of the patchogue area for 27 years. The vibe, aesthetics, and service of The Better Man Distilling is so amazing that you will feel the need to tell everyone you know about it! They have an ever changing menu of amazing drinks, made with expertise and only the top quality of ingredients as well as a ton of special events that feature local musicians and chef's. They also are extremely diligent in following all of NY State Covid-19 protocols, so you will feel extremely safe there and still be able to have an amazing time. This place is absolutely incredible. Amazing staff, amazing service, incredible & unique drinks in a beautiful cozy environment. I will also like to add that they have different type of events such as trivia night. Which me and my girlfriend attended last night and had a great time. The only draw back was that, there was another group of people who weren't very nice to the staff and made others feel uncomfortable. Later on I went on Yelp and seen a very negative review which was obviously written by that group of people. Almost everything they said was blatantly untrue. They claimed they weren't paid attention to, when in reality staff consistently goes to all the tables regularly and make periodic checks, to make sure everyone is satisfied. Me & my girlfriend went there and had a great time as always. The worst thing I noticed in the review was that the person claimed the establishment and it's staff had some sort racist or discriminatory inclinations. Reading that part had me absolutely appalled, considering their servers & staff are of different races, ethnicities and color. I am a white man, born and raised in Russia, my girlfriend is Of Jamaican & Dominican decent. Me & her had plenty of racist and discriminatory experiences at some establishments , but not at Betterman. If there is one place that makes us feel welcomed, treated fairly, and as part of their family, it's the Betterman Distillery. I want to make a very strong point & emphasize the fact that this place is a part of a very diverse community, and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Never they have nor they will, discriminate against anyone, based on their race, religion, skin color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or as much as a difference of minor opinion. The discriminatory comments written by the unhappy patrons are absolutely false, and made me feel very unhappy to read about a place that I know for a fact, treats everyone with great respect and love. The racist inclinations and allegations are absolutely false. Me & my girlfriend attend the established for such cool and fun events, and yet to have a bad experience. We need more establishments like the Betterman Distillery, better yet, we need more people like the owners and staff of that company in our communities. read more

I've had three great experiences with Better Man now, so they're due for a glowing review. Their cocktails are absolutely delicious. Spot on for every palette during every season. The decor and atmosphere is fantastic- come here to relax and unwind in a lounge setting. Their igloos look adorable and each has their own theme and special cocktail too I believe. I most recently came by to pickup some bottles during their special 20% off promotion. Service was just as great then as when coming in to have a drink. I look forward to more trips here. read more

Obviously, COVID 19 has made things difficult and strange for small businesses and consumers but I'm happy to have become a "regular" for this distillery in these odd times. I typically review places after multiple visits, multiple times, and multiple offerings and I am happy to report back positive consistency here. So to give the skinny in a condensed version, this is the old Blue Point Brewery location (see my review of old, new, forever). This will become a regular rotation as it's not quite on Main St for Patchogue but close enough to chain with some other spots for a great weekend gathering. Love that the cocktails menu has even changed up in the span of a 3 week period which will definitely keep things fresh. Definitely seem biased to vodka/gin specialties but if that is your thing, this place is a must try/no brainer. Truthfully, vodka/gin is not mine but I still really have a deep love and respect for this place. My personal recommendation is the "morning Manhattan" or Cucumber cooler. Cocktails will run from $8-$12 but ingredients are fresh and I haven't had anything that I disliked! Really happy to see that this is a business that is also bringing in local music acts and local food vendors. We've lost a lot of this support on Long Island so honestly being able to see this is a great thing for our area. Really easy to see what's in the scope via their active social media pages (Instagram). Staff as said in other reviews from the bartenders, to servers, to managers are very friendly, accommodating, and will make multiple check ins. Courtesy chips, nuts, and popcorn have been provided in multiple instances which is always a nice touch. Outdoor area is in the back parking lot where Blue Point's tables used to be but it's dressed up nicely and a nice spot to end up on a summer weekend. People that are concerned with the virus outbreak and the steps taken-- it is REFRESHING to see that even in 90F+ days everyone who works in any area of this place is wearing a mask at all times. No it's not a "chin guard" or daggling around their neck but over the area's it should be CONSTANTLY. Area's are cleaned promptly and sprayed down once patrons leave. Sitting area's are definitely at the minimal 6 feet apart... An obvious attention to detail is shown here in this new protocol. I would highly recommend this place if you frequent Patchogue village. Again, location is convenient to the town, parking lot is free and plentiful, and where it counts with the cocktails makes this a highly enjoyable spot for any age, scene, or demo! read more

My wife and I walk by this building most weekends. I was not sure whether the place was closed up due to virus concerns. But we popped in anyway. It was a beautiful day and the owners had the side garage door open. Great tasting room, great spirits and delicious cocktails. They even gave us some "hand sanitizer" made from the spirits. Usually really like this place but this time I went in with a majority brown group for trivia. We got every question correct as we were enthusiasts on the subject matter yet our scores were not counted correctly. To reconcile, we asked for our submissions back to show we did not get an incorrect answer, but they never gave it back to us for proof. Our waitress/employees did not come to explain the situation even though we asked multiple times. They took our complaints and said nothing in response. The drink are unique but overpriced. The ambiance is nice but left a bad taste in our mouth when they didn't give us an answer/proof/any response to our scores. Sorry to say I will not be returning. read more

Went for trivia night multiple times. I've always been treated well with my white friends until I went with a majority brown, non-white team for the first time ever. From the get-go, service was very unfriendly compared to when I went with my white friends. They did not really pay attention to our table at all. The night just got worse from there. They purposely miscounted our trivia score and wanted to give prizes to white patrons specifically. We got the majority of the questions right. Questioning our score, we asked to see our answer sheets four times politely. They never returned it even after numerous requests. When asked about the points, they always shrugged us off as if we were dirt. They even walked by to snoop on me when I was on my phone assuming I was cheating when I was just browsing restaurants on Doordash (they welcome delivery to their spot.) After all of this, they didn't even come to the table to collect the check. They made us go up to the bar to go pay. Do not support this establishment if you are POC or care about POC people. EDIT: Seeing as how the establishment has responded, let me clarify I have been here many times before with mostly white people in my group. They were even friendly to my white friend who brought their own food and did not even order any drinks while seated with us at a previous time. Suddenly I come with a majority brown group and the service takes a huge dip? Something is clearly wrong there. It could have been an off-night, but it still feels weird. And yes we went up to the bar to pay because you did not even come to the table for over 20 minutes. My team has been here for trivia multiple nights and multiple nights we do not win without a care, we have won a gift maybe once or twice total. If we wanted to cheat to win, we would be winning a prize every single week we go. That's not the case. We go for the fun of gathering on a Thursday night and the unique cocktails offered. If your employees walked by multiple times to look, then why was service so off? If they're nearby our table so often, then our complaint should have been that the employees are hawking too hard. Instead we felt neglected at the end of the night and the only time we felt this way was when we were with a majority POC table. You can have all the great initiatives and inclusive menus, but the experience is what matters at the end of the day. read more

We went to this place and got here at 9:15 when they close at 10. The hostess said it was last call when they seated us and said we could order food if we ordered quickly. We barely got a chance to sit or look at the menu when the waitress came over asking what we wanted naturally we asked her to come back. 10 minutes goes by and we were waiting for her when we already had our order and she comes back and says the kitchen closed an hour ago. So then we ordered only drinks and they took like 20 minutes to bring our drinks. Our waitress Allie was not friendly. I will wait a long time till I come back here again if ever. While researching where to host my Baby Shower, I wanted somewhere that was a bit more unique and veer from the "banquet hall" venue style. As past patrons of Better Man Co., my family and I decided it would be the perfect place to host this memorable event and we are so thankful we did! Abby, Allie, and all of the staff were incredibly responsive, informative, and accommodating during the planning process. Our family and friends absolutely loved the mingle-friendly environment that Better Man provides and were raving about how great the food and cocktails were. On the day of the event, the staff had the indoor venue set up beautifully, with charcuterie boards at each sitting area along with custom menus designed by Abby. The bartenders created a custom "mocktail" for the event and the chef was accommodating with the catering menu. Our guests were in awe at how unique and beautiful the indoor and outdoor spaces were and made mention of coming back in the near future. I truly cannot say enough about how amazing our experience was with Better Man & their incredible staff. What a fun place with beautiful ambiance. The betterman is a new spot close by and decided to check it out (I chose the place and I am a black woman). When my friends and I entered the employees let us choose our seating which are either comfy couches or modern plush chairs. Went with a small group and this place makes it very easy for their guests, self seating and the menu at your fingertips literally on your phone. The server pointed out to us that this months menu is focused and interactive for women's history month. The drinks are so creative and DELICIOUS true craft cocktails. @Katilyn, Maddy, & Ameer it is very hard to believe the statements that you have made about this place. Upon entering the staff is ran by noticeably young professionals and if you have visited more than once how can you say that they are racist? Between the patrons who come to enjoy and the small staff it is apparent that they are inclusive and welcome all... even dogs! You should take the time to know more about them but since you haven't...It is family owned, managed by a Latino male or young woman, and they treat everyone the same. This isn't the kind of place that is going to hound you to keep ordering drinks more like catch a vibe and enjoy yourself. I feel bad for the 3 who will be missing out on this thriving new beautiful place in patchogue. More room for everyone else who wants to visit!!! read more
