This hidden gem is amazing. The atmosphere alone is relaxing, laid back, and fresh. Cushioned chairs and couches circle various small tables in a bright open room. There is a bar with seats and a lovely outdoor sitting area. Everyone there was attentive and very friendly. Then... the drinks! What a fun assortment. There are their regulars and specials. May I suggest the Lavender Bees Knees. The menu has a large variety of bar type food. We had a charcuterie and the spinach artichoke dip. Cute place off of patchogues main road area, so it has a lot of seating. The outside looks a bit industrial/not much parking but there is parking in the back. In the winter they have the snow globes that people reserve. There's an old fashioned vending machine that you can actually buy Better Man drinks from, you just get coins from the bar. I am giving this a three star review basically because of the service we receive when we go there. My wife and I literally live on this block. We have tried to stop in there many times Unfortunately, due to their limited hours and many private events, we've had trouble getting in to the establishment . We have literally been turned away more times than we have actually entered. That being said we have had several experiences at The Better Man. We definitely enjoy their spirits. Particularly the lavender gin, and I really love the Negroni as well as the new fashioned . The problem comes with the service. When we enter this establishment, we are typically greeted by a confused server who says can I help you? As if they don't know why we're here. This bewildered greeting has confused me since day one. Are we annoying you? Do you not know that we're here for drinks? Do you think we are lost? Are we a little bit older than the demographic you like to serve? The smug greeting Makes no sense to me. I can tell you this , our age group tends to typically like to spend a lot of money and hang out for a very long time. The fact that they make you feel like you're bothering them is very odd to me. On one occasion, my wife and I sat outside, the outdoor seating is very pleasant and the scenery is very pretty. My wife ordered the bees knees, which is her preferred drink here. However, when she ordered the second one it was substantially less full. This is basically a $20 cocktail so when we questioned this fact the ridiculous response from the server was that it was a bigger glass? No, it wasn't. Seriously? I just truly don't understand the confusion and standoffish attitude we get when we enter this establishment. We have been to many many places over the years. We are typically greeted with friendly service and a warm smile. When we enter this place, they almost act as if they have no idea why we would be there. Maybe if they acted a little bit more pleasant we would be there more often. Attended a wedding shower in mid October. Great weather and we were able to utilize both the inside and outside areas. Robust and colorful, the layout of tables, chairs, couches, gardens and more make it easy to gather and connect with other people. I would just like to say since I've written this review, I've had discourse with the manager privately where she was very friendly and offered agreement and explanations with solutions. Well, the last two times I've been there since I've had amazing experiences. Most recently went in with a group ordering honey deuces and pizzas. First we were GREETED by a friendly woman, The honey deuces were $10 (amazing!!) we ordered a dozen of them and they were coming quick(!) and the food was delicious, as always, and speedy! So delighted with the changes they've seemed to make. Cheaper drinks, friendlier staff, and speedier service = happy customers! read more

Excellent drink creations and interior design. This place is such a beautiful spot for delicious drinks with friend groups or for a date. It can get super packed and noisy on the weekends or when a popular food truck is outside (you're allowed/encouraged to bring the food in with you). They do have their own kitchen too for when there is no food truck. Be prepared for some extended wait times for your drinks when it's busy. They were definitely understaffed during my last visit. One bartender and two servers for the entire inside and outside area on a packed day on the weekend is just not enough and puts so much stress on the employees, who were super sweet and friendly despite the high fast-paced workload. So sit back, enjoy your time, and maybe get in the order for your next round a little ahead of time before finishing your drink. A favorite spot of mine for sure! read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate a friends birthday. I have been very excited to try this place out since sampling some of their spirits at a liquor tasting at my local liquor store. The decor is very 70s inspired and it was fun to look at all of the different details that they had and the seating is also very cozy with couches and coffee tables. My husband, sister and I arrived a half hour earlier than my friends did so we attempted to go to the bar to place our order but the bartender told us to sit down and order from the server. It took the server about 20 minutes to come over and take our order and another 20 minutes to get our cocktails. I ordered the lavender haze mocktail; it was delicious. My sister also ordered a mock tail which she enjoyed and my husband enjoyed his cocktail. When our friends finally arrived, there were too many of us to fit inside so we sat on the outside on the large patio which had lots of space for us. They continue to discourage us from ordering at the bar so we had to wait for a server to come see us outside. This took about another half hour. My husband sister, and I decided not to order another drink because of how long it took to get the first round and it also seemed like we couldn't pay for our drinks separately this time so we decided to not order anything to not confuse the bill. If we had been able to order separately at the bar ourselves, we probably would've ordered two more drinks each. When the server arrived for the first round of drinks for our friends, he spilled one of them and the glass broke. He promptly returned with a replacement however he left the glass shards all over the table. Our friends finished up their drinks and we were very excited to leave to go grab lunch and more drinks at Blue Point. Maybe it was just a staffing issue, not sure, hopefully they can rectify the disorganization for the future. read more

A small distillery that you might accidentally drive by but should definitely stop in. They have a great outdoor patio with lots of seating for customers and make specialty cocktails that are fun and unique. They are a little pricy, but if you want the experience, you are paying a little more for it. Talk about a moment of revelation, but upon my first real understanding of the location of Better Man Distilling, I realized it is in fact the old Blue Point Brewery. Huh. That was kind of cool (and a little jarring) to see as my wife and I pulled up this past summer for an outdoor movie night, but hey, I'm glad the place is being used for libation purposes. Let's back track a bit and fill out the intro as Better Man Distilling hosts some fun events at their indoor/outdoor distillery including film features such as 13 Going On 30 (a favorite of my female and one I was willing to watch to check out the entirety of BMD). Although not spending much time inside, the interior is definitely a more open space than Blue Point ever was with a retro yet cozy vibe. The exterior has a decent amount of tables and seating though where they show the movie (a projected screen against a storage structure) might not have been perfect viewing for some. Luckily, my wife and I got to Better Man on the earlier side and we were able to snag a relatively close and centered spot. Better Man has that internal bar, but the rest of the place runs on wait staff who were friendly and did a nice job checking in throughout our time there (including during the movie). We were never truly looking for someone to help us out which is nice. It was also pretty cool to see that the menu of items they had featured food, drinks, and a handful of movie-themed/named choices. It added a little pizzazz to the evening. What was also "pizzazzy" was their happy hour pizza deal. You get two drinks and a pizza for $25 which is a nice price, though BMD has some really creative cocktails (which are not part of this deal) though we were still able to do a little up charge dance and make those drinks work. Let's talk food first because the pizza, spreads (we got a trio of different types) and chocolate/strawberry popcorn (a movie item) were all quite tasty. I'll even quickly mention my wife's second drink (a piña colada based off of the movie menu) was also tasty and quite big. And therein lies my one big gripe with Better Man and a factor that takes the review down a star. Better Man's signature drinks come out looking like art. The colors, toppers (I had a toasted marshmallow on top of mine), and glassware creates some beautiful drinks that are indeed quite tasty and well-balanced...except half of their drinks are ice. Yeah, a giant circular ball of ice looks cool in a small glass, but a lesson on volume will quickly tell you that this cuts out quite a lot of liquid. So does a giant rectangular slab of frozen water in the middle of a tall glass. Both are examples of the ice found in our (my wife and I) drinks. I mean I don't expect any place to necessarily dole out huge libations, but those ice shapes just made me feel a bit slighted on the price and amount of drink I'm actually getting. Maybe that's just me. Overall though, Better Man Distilling is a pleasant spot to chill out, catch an outdoor movie (in the warmer months), try some tasty grub, and definitely get some well made cocktails (albeit with a lot of deceiving ice in them). That frozen factor won't stop me from returning because I did enjoy the setup, staff, and everything Better Man had to offer. Now if only they could do a retro Blue Point Brewery evening. What a great movie night with my daughter and neighbors! First, I love that Bettermans provides such a nice space that's family friendly. It's great to give my fifteen year old a girls night out with mock tails and food. Let's talk about the food! I failed at taking pictures because we were hungry and the food looked so good we just jumped in. The harissa steak and bulgar risotto is by far a top item in the menu! The pizzas are great too, the vegetables and the prosciutto were both perfectly flavored with a nice crust! Outdoor movie, we'll, it's a cute idea but no regulation. The table next to us had 2 dogs, and the one kept begging for food from our table, they were actually quite annoying and the two women were trying to yell over the speaker which they sat right in front of. I would suggest for movie nights, have some kind of courtesy rules in place because it would completely change the experience. Poor staff was sweet as can be, but they looked like they could have used another person on tonight! On Sunday 15 of us arrived here from Queens, for our friend's 40th birthday.. Such an amazing place! I will start off by saying Gabby and Mike! Phenomenal staff. Our drinks were delivered fast even during the tour and our tour was amazing with Mike. He's such a great communicator. It wasn't dry or boring he kept us interested, answered questions! The past few weekends I have been getting drinks to go. The cocktail list is creative with fresh ingredients. The vodka and gin are both gluten free. This weekend they opened the outside area for social distancing seating. Abby and Steven were there making amazing drinks. Basil Smash is one of my favorites. Seating was spread out. After someone left the tables and chairs were sprayed and disinfected. I haven't been comfortable going out with covid and I feel VERY comfortable here. They also have a taco truck, oysters, and brunch. I hope to see a gluten free option on the brunch in the future. I highly recommend visiting. My daughter and her now husband found The Betterman right after they got engaged, and from the first moment they walked in they were impressed. The drinks are spot on, creative, and downright delicious. The decor is that of a high class hotel lobby inside and a cozy getaway outside. My daughter and her husband discovered they host weddings. They brought my husband and I back. We were hooked. What a different, fun, fabulous wedding. It's been almost 2 years since and we are still getting compliments on the uniqueness and fun place, with fabulous drinks and food. Okay everybody, last night I had an experience. You know those certain times you go out, they are just a notch above other nights.... the twinkling, shooting stars in the night sky? The ones that burn red instead of fade into the rest? Last night we were on that shooting star, we were burning red, and it was all thanks to Better Man Distilling! As a group (about 20 of my closest friends) we all managed to get to the same place at the same time, and you know, I think I can speak for all of them with this review. Upon walking up to the old cold box (I say this because the buildings they reside in is our old beloved blue point brewery) I was hit with a heavy dose of nostalgia; the tasting room still has quite a bit of time and work to be done until it's open and I cannot wait to see how they improve the space! That being said, on Saturdays for the time being they are hosting wonderful events in the side warehouse; last night wound up being trivia and guess who's team won!? Not mine, but the woman on the winning team was the baby momma to the old owner of the brewery! Ha I loved mark and Pete and they've really done a lot for me over the years that they don't even realize, but it's a new place now, a new vibe, a new set of ambitious owners and distillers and they are all awesome!!! So out with the old, in with the better man. We didn't win the main trivia but I did win a big movie night prize bucket for my fancy dance to rocky horror picture show- my girlfriend didn't watch but she did make fun of me so I'll be taking someone else to a movie with all my snacks (hit me up) What else did we win!? We won the super crazy fun lightning round! And that scored us all tickets to the PMAC in Patchogue! So excited. Oh geeze I forgot to mention the actual booze! The staff was so great but guess what!? They certainly know what they're doing because all the flavors were mixed to perfection. I started with an Aviation which was fantastic, since it had a violet liquor in it this could have been too flowery, but no it was perfect, I also tried an Elysian & tonic I loved that too. I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. We decided to have a girls day and book an igloo. When arriving there is a lot of parking but we were really confused on where to enter. After finding out where to go we waited a while to check in. Allie was our server and she was awesome. She explained how everything worked and was very sweet. Their drink menu is extensive and they have a bunch of holiday drinks. They did offer a Sunday brunch. We heard it was great but ended up just getting a charcuterie board and hummus. I've had the privilege of visiting the Better Man's "temporary tasting room" twice so far (in advance of the official tasting room opening and before going out became a thing of the past for the foreseeable future.) The first time was for an indoor market - think mini LI version of Smorgasburg with a great selection of unique local food vendors. The second time was while participating in the Nancy Brew International Women's Day Scavenger Hunt. Both times were a ton of fun! The marketplace they organized had a great selection of local vendors - my friends and I got lunch and plenty of goods to go. And the specialty drinks they planned for the day were a treat - especially the Zombie (a delicious hot beverage for a cold day). The distillery was the last "stamp" stop of the scavenger hunt, so my friend and I decided to hang out, try their specialty drinks for the day, and chat in their groovy chairs. 10/10 would hang out there again. Excited to see what other col events take place here in the future! Since the weather has been getting nicer, the Better Man has been doing some awesome lemonade stand style curbside to-go drinks on the weekends, and offering delicious freshly made tacos, corn, oysters and more thanks to local vendors setting up shop in their parking lot for the day. The Better Man family has also been the driving force behind organizing "Virtual Bar Crawls" on the weekends in Patchogue by coordinating between local food businesses to bring drinks, apps, and live virtual entertainment to town residents in the comfort of their homes during these unprecedented times. This review might be a bit early seeing as their main room hasn't even opened up - but I suppose that's a testament to the service and the drinks. I first came by here for their Sunday Market to try a bunch of different foods - and of course their drinks. The prices are about what you'd expect for drinks of their caliber. I particularly appreciated their drink called "The Zombie" on this cold day, as it was a nice, warm fruity drink. Upon coming back on an off day with no events for "Nancy Brew" I had a sampling of their vodka, which was rare in that I didn't make "That Face" after drinking it. It was an incredibly smooth vodka. The current tasting room is a little rougher looking, unsurprisingly, but it is still a nice warm, inviting room with plenty of seating for groups of all sizes. The staff who had been their both days that I stopped by were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the product. If you're in the area and looking to try some liquors, I'd definitely recommend checking out this cute and inviting distillery. read more

Finally got the chance to check this place out over the weekend with our large group of friends, our baby, and a dog. Needless to say, I think we all had an awesome time! Located on River Ave where Blue Point Brewery used to be, it brought back so many good memories and really set the tone for the time we were there. Being a distillery, they're serving up some real classy and crisp cocktails made with their own brand vodka and/or gin. The menu had a lot to offer and being with a big group I think we managed or order one of everything so we were all able to sip and taste along the way. I ordered the Tony Negroni - the owners namesake which was equal parts sweet and bitter made with their gin. it was served over a nice big ice cube and was a real tasty drink. Others ordered martinis, while others tried some other out of the box cocktails (one even had glitter)! Cocktails will run you $12 but they also serve local beer for $7 and wine for $12. We were in luck and participated a bit with trivia which was fun for everyone! Everyone working from the bartender to the owners were incredibly nice, helpful, and very informative about the product they're making. We recently held our wedding at Better Man. Incredible. Better than I even dreamed. My husband is already talking about wanting to rent it again for another event. That's how unique, exciting, and all around awesome this place is. From the minute we walked into its fabulous mid-century modern tasting room, we knew it was perfect for our intimate wedding. We had use of the entire space, indoors and outdoors. The eclectic seats and couches were perfect for our guests to mingle, and the outdoor space had tons of charm. The firepits kept the party going all night! Serving dinner in the distilling room among all the different contraptions was such a cool experience, and we had use of the barrel building as a storage space for our items throughout the day. The food packages were really flexible. We did a buffet as well as passed apps and a grazing table. Everyone loved the chicken sliders (they were HUGE) and spanakopita. They also were able to easily accommodate my groom's nut allergy and my friend's gluten intolerance, which was super important! Of course, the star of the show was the cocktails! About two months before the wedding, we were able to come in and try ten different cocktails and choose our six favorite to feature on the menu, along with their standard included ones. That's right: six!!! We had such a fun date tasting and choosing the names together, and our guests LOVED them.
