We went here for a fundraiser in support of neuroendocrine cancer patients. I got a lot of attention because I am a survivor of that. We ordered a flight of beer, chosing from a number of options of their premiere offering - beers created from hops found in a 19th century shipwreck. All were delicious, and I even liked the stout, which I normally do not. Looking at the map, it seemed far away, but we got home in a half hour, so we hope to make a return trip soon. read more

Their tasting room has been closed so you can no longer enjoy their beer on premises. They do sell 750 milliliter bottles for $14, and disposable kegs to the public at their storefront. read more

Why Yelp Gods why!? Oh if I ever needed a half star option to review a place it would be here, at Saint James Brewery. It just fits so perfectly right in between a four and five star feeling. Reason? Well let me tell you! Last Friday I knocked out another brewery on this lengthy Island by hitting up the last Holbrook spot I hadn't ventured to (this one, or course). Nestled in a similar building-setup as its fellow Lincoln Ave brethren (Spiderbite and 1940's), Saint James is arguably a tad smaller (for a taproom, that is). That doesn't take away from it's cozy style. Yeah, you're kinda sitting in what looks like a small warehouse with the actual brewery in front of you, but that little "taproom" area works just fine (better than fine). It's got a little beer flair going which shouldn't be overlooked. I strolled in with my buddy and we were joyfully greeted by a woman who treated us as if we were close friends in her home. She offered to change the channel on the massive TV, raise the music, and even had a charger handy for my dying phone. Service with several smiles! Beyond the hospitality, we were given the rundown about Saint James and it's beer. A farm brewery with Belgian ale roots that's rockin' New York ingredients? Sounds good to me! This meant dubbel and tripel choices as well as a few other palate-worthy brews. With five to choose from, a flight was what we went for, though it was a bit steeper in price ($15) than usual. Hey, it's cool with me. I'll support local beer until my liver craps out (here's hopin' that takes a while!). I digress.... Let's break it down like this. Five brews: Muré (blackberry porter) Biere des Chevaliers (dubbel) Fraise (strawberry fruit beer) Tripel (I think you can figure this one out) Rachelle Blanche (witbier) Those two fruit-based ales gave way to some great original flavors while staying true to the Belgian background. The dubbel hit the spot and was exactly what I expected from it. The downer was the tripel. I don't know what happened here, but something tasted...off. Really off. Great, the thing had a 9% ABV, but it didn't have the heavy punch a tripel usually dances with. Things were made up when I met Rachelle. Rachelle Blanche, that is. She was a wondrous witbier bringing out some fruity notes accompanied by a wheat flavor that balanced things out perfectly. I was torn on purchasing a bottle, but she (it?) pushed me in the buying direction (along with a beautiful glass to add to the collection, albeit a pricy endeavor). Overall, so maybe things sound kind of 4-stars-ish, but Saint James Brewery deserves that extra half of a fifth celestial body. Alas, I can't say it warrants the kick up to 5 though. Therein lies the deadly half star conundrum. In the end, just know Saint James will grant you a brewery and beers almost entirely worthy of returning for. Take the trip and be the judge on the fraction that'll make up that final twinkle. read more

How great is it to give Spider Bite a new beer neighbor!? Just a hop skip and a jump down Lincoln avenue, is a stepping stone between SpiderBite and 1940s brewing companies, St. James Brewery. What I love about this brewery has always been their fresh local ingredients, adding fruits from the farms and sourcing as much as they can from local or single sources; every beer they make is actually the exact same yeast strain! The yeast strain can obviously morph a bit as it's always alive but it is harvested from that same batch from beer to beer. The new tasting room is more or less just a roped off from daily operation, brewery. A slight modeling adjustment in this garage space could change the feel later on but it's good enough for now as they get up and running. Just four beers to try off some handles to the side, so make sure you don't miss this in the ever growing Long Island craft beer scene, and be sure to make a 3 stop trip out of the local Bohemia/Holbrook breweries. (2 additional breweries are set to hopefully open in the area for future reference; Squarehead & Swingset) Happy for the brewery gains in this area for sure. read more

This brewery has it all - good beer good location good folks serving w a smile and a good story. The place needs a bit of interior decorating IMO but hey it's beer not a gallery. Still - a bit austere as we took a selfie when there and while the smiles were bright and cheery The walls were dull like an unfinished canvas. Go and live the place. What can I say, I'm a sucker for new breweries...I finally got a chance to check this place out over the weekend and it's a welcome addition to the other Holbrook breweries (Spider Bite & 1940's)! With a new sign on the road, you won't miss it. We came on a rainy day so everyone was inside the tasting room, but they do set up a little tent right out front so you could sit out there if it was nicer. They had 4 beers on tap which they rotated out once one keg kicks. They don't sell pints, just $3 sample cups...so for $12 you can enjoy a flight of each beer or tap, or mix it up with whichever 4 you like. I tried the Dubbel, Pomme (apple), and Fraise (strawberry). Although I'm not the biggest fan of Belgian beers, they are pumping out some really good, high ABV beers packed with flavor. I fell in love with the Pomme, and will definitely be going back for more and also to try the Plum stout which wasn't on tap yet that day. Very nice people and a real chill vibe makes this a nice new spot to grab a beer or two and hang out. read more

Awesome Addition to St. James! Located right next door to Del Fuego. Me and my wife both tried a tasting flight. My wife loved all the beers and 3 of my 4 pics were delicious. They brew them with local ingredients sourced straight from the farms on the East End of Long Island. Great addition to the neighborhood with great beer will definitely be back. read more

Let me start by saying in a world of breweries focused around New England style IPA's st James brewery is a breath of fresh air. A true brewery in my opinion, with an owner who doesn't just want support from locals but actually supports other local businesses through the use of local ingredients sourced from local farms. The beer here is excellent. There Belgium style beers were delicious and spot on in style. They weren't some interpretation of what they want Belgium beers to be, adding crazy things that don't belong in traditional Belgium beers. They were simply delicious Belgium ales. The stouts and farmhouse ales are also excellent. Local ingredients that don't overpower the flavor of the beer. For example the plum stout has nuances of plum not plum flavor that punches you in the palate like a warhead. I'm thoroughly impressed by the beer here and the friendly service from staff and the owner/brewer. Also when your done here you can walk 50 yards up the block to spider bite brewery and try there beers as well. read more

I am not a huge Belgium beer fan, but that is what Saint James is all about. I do have to say that the beers were all well executed, but the tap room was very blah. I like that they had a guest tap, and I appreciate the fact that they use a lot of local ingredients. I just wasn't wowed by any of the beers, but it was a nice change of pace in a market place dominated by IPAs. read more

Great brewery with 'not your usual beers'. While I tend to favor IPAs and traditional porters, this gem had plum porter, apple ale that was nicely dry, and two others on tap. The beers tasted fresh and Rachel, on of the co-owners with her husband was inviting and explained everything. While the tasting room was small, the brew equipment was sizable so you can see there will be more coming. Growler fills were nitrogen topped to keep the beer fresh (for those with patience), and 22 oz bombers were available for their other varieties. This will definitely be on my rotation of brewery visits. read more
