The All Hallows Eve and All Hallows Night were delicious. The pizza was the best brewery pizza we've had!

Here we go again, More beer and more good times! Sat at the bar with Frank who is very funny. He knows his beer and will point you in the right direction if you don't know what you want. We had great time with him. As soon as my glass was empty it was full again. The beer is so good here. High quality, very flavorful and the great percentages. Definitely stop in and visit!

Spider bite is a newer to the scene brewery when looking at our beer landscape here on the island, that being said, they've been around longer than just their tasting room; yesterday's party over in the industrial park marked their 5th anniversary. I know a lot of people who love this beer and a lot who aren't too impressed, it's just one of those things. For the anniversary they had a few collaboration beers with the likes of barrage, dubco, and brick house, all 3 were fantastic. The much anticipated chocolate cherry stout was gone fast, it was my first pour of the day but man was it god awful. Some people though, thought it was just what the doctor ordered... I feel similarly in that it was an incredibly medicinal cherry- thankfully though it was the only bad beer of the day. Anniversary pours- *2012 Boris after warming up was fantastic and bested the 2011. * Li to me was the colas with brick house, if you missed it, make damn sure you grab it this upcoming week in patchogue! * the colab with barrage was a bock and I'm sorry that it's in such short supply, good luck trying this one-off while a few drops are still left * I forget what the dub I colas was but I know it was good * cran it in your mouth - yummy but even better mixed with the 2012 Boris * raspberry quake - 9.4% and amazingly easy to drink * peach whatever was absolutely delightful, that was my second pour and I believe I had it again 6 pours later * the rye barleywine was outstanding as well The list goes on and in and on and I'm happy spider bite is around for sure.

Fear of spiders? Love of beer? Well, you'll only find one of those two things at Spider Bite Brewery, and rest assured, it's the latter of the two. This past Thursday marked my second trip into this web of brews and boy was it a tasty one. That first trip was way back in May of 2015 when I sampled some stellar suds and have been longing to return ever since. The influx of awesome breweries (including neighboring 1940's) made this an overdue return destination, and a first time for my duo of chums accompanying me. When you approach SBB, you'll understand why the name works as its tap room is as small as an arachnid. Some counter space and a couple of two-chaired high tops makes up the area. Size laid the caveat egg that knocked this review down to four stars, but more on that in a bit. First the beer! We purchased a Groupon to give us a little extra added beer love/save a couple bucks. It consisted of two flights, a 32oz growler with fill, and $10 to spend on merch. Thanks, Spidey. This worked for myself and one of my buddies while the third grabbed a pint. Nine beers total on tap. I went with 2nd Bite IPA, Doppel Dunkel Weizenbock, Melba's Toasted Brown Ale, and Cran it in Your Mouth. That's one thing you can say about Spider Bite: They know how to name their beers! All four were great in flavor and mouthfeel with Cran being my favorite from its fruity, crisp taste. Unfortunately no growler fills of that so I went with my next fav in the Weizenbock. 2nd Bite had a subtle hop kick and Melba's was mildly creamy yet tangy on the pallet. It was a flight that Spiderman would've approved. The star loss? That darn size. I can't fault the brewers/owners on space, but when we arrived no one was there besides said co-owner and what may have been his wife working on her laptop. It felt as though we were intruding because we were basically all sharing the same tiny web of space. There was no convo either beyond our beer purchase which upped the awkward aroma in the air. The beer still triumphed which is what matters most to us beer brethren. Overall, Spider Bite may not be large, but who wants a giant eight-legged brewery anyway? Local craft beer can often be tiny in production and for the most part I can respect the size of Spider Bite as they concoct some fabulous beer. A semi-larger space would help cram (or cran?) more spider lovers in, but for now, I'll return to this spot, hopefully in a smaller gap of time than my first two visits.

Loved checking this place out as it was local. We had a Groupon which included flights for two people, a take home growler and merchandise credit. What a great deal! The place wasn't too large but there was plenty of seating. There was a decent amount of people there. The bartender was friendly and the overall vibe was really great. Beers were good, just a nice fun place to hang out at!

Real down to earth people. Service with a smile always looking to please. Great brews always introducing new ones. Great for a group gathering or a few. You will probably see them at many different craft new events but stopping by the home base is a must! New website www.spiderbitebeer.com keeps you updated with new taps and events. You can also keep in touch via their Facebook page.

Stopped in for flights with some friends on New Year's Eve. We all really enjoyed everything we tried and I regret that I left empty handed! As others have said, the tasting room is small but don't let that deter you! EDIT: Tasting room was expanded in February and is now twice the size!

Came here last night for a beer & cheese pairing with Slates & Plates and really enjoyed myself! The beers were all very different from one another, and all had a really good depth of flavor. They have a raspberry quake that I could drink endlessly (and I'm not a huge beer fan!). The owner was really nice and knowledgeable, and the cheeses were all really delicious. The owners of Slates & Plates were super nice, and the event was a really good time! Many compliments to both!

It just fits so perfectly right in between a four and five star feeling. Reason? Well let me tell you! Last Friday I knocked out another brewery on this lengthy Island by hitting up the last Holbrook spot I hadn't ventured to (this one, or course). Nestled in a similar building-setup as its fellow Lincoln Ave brethren (Spiderbite and 1940's), Saint James is arguably a tad smaller (for a taproom, that is). That doesn't take away from it's cozy style. Yeah, you're kinda sitting in what looks like a small warehouse with the actual brewery in front of you, but that little "taproom" area works just fine (better than fine). It's got a little beer flair going which shouldn't be overlooked. I strolled in with my buddy and we were joyfully greeted by a woman who treated us as if we were close friends in her home. She offered to change the channel on the massive TV, raise the music, and even had a charger handy for my dying phone. Service with several smiles! Beyond the hospitality, we were given the rundown about Saint James and it's beer. A farm brewery with Belgian ale roots that's rockin' New York ingredients? Sounds good to me! This meant dubbel and tripel choices as well as a few other palate-worthy brews. With five to choose from, a flight was what we went for, though it was a bit steeper in price ($15) than usual. Hey, it's cool with me. I'll support local beer until my liver craps out (here's hopin' that takes a while!). I digress.... Let's break it down like this. Five brews: Muré (blackberry porter) Biere des Chevaliers (dubbel) Fraise (strawberry fruit beer) Tripel (I think you can figure this one out) Rachelle Blanche (witbier) Those two fruit-based ales gave way to some great original flavors while staying true to the Belgian background. The dubbel hit the spot and was exactly what I expected from it. The downer was the tripel. I don't know what happened here, but something tasted...off. Really off. Great, the thing had a 9% ABV, but it didn't have the heavy punch a tripel usually dances with. Things were made up when I met Rachelle. Rachelle Blanche, that is. She was a wondrous witbier bringing out some fruity notes accompanied by a wheat flavor that balanced things out perfectly. I was torn on purchasing a bottle, but she (it?) pushed me in the buying direction (along with a beautiful glass to add to the collection, albeit a pricy endeavor). Overall, so maybe things sound kind of 4-stars-ish, but Saint James Brewery deserves that extra half of a fifth celestial body. Alas, I can't say it warrants the kick up to 5 though. Therein lies the deadly half star conundrum. In the end, just know Saint James will grant you a brewery and beers almost entirely worthy of returning for. Take the trip and be the judge on the fraction that'll make up that final twinkle.
