How does one properly spend a nasty weather Sunday? Visiting breweries, of course! Better yet, why not check out one of Long Island's newer locations in Lindenhurst. 27A is the brewery name and beer is the game (duh). My buddy and I made the recently rainy trek to this tiny spot and came away with both impressed and mixed feelings. I do emphasize tiny because 27A is mostly just a small storefront that could almost be confused with a coffee shop. A couple of comfy seats and a table or two makes up the place so be weary of buying a flight without an area to put it down. Luckily for mi amigo and I there was one empty, little standing table that we were able to claim as ours for the length of our beery time. Did someone say beer? Oh yes, that was me. 27A featured eight brews of varying degree, though I must say I liked the strong nod to the current seasonal selections. Two pumpkin beers and a Fall-named jam (Sømmar in October) were three of the selections, two of them ended up on the flight I split with my friend (the other pumpkin brew was tried on the side as an extra taster). Side note for the flight as this was the second time I've come across a flight consisting of four 6oz pours for a little more than $10. Honestly, I like my flights at four or five ounces just to give myself an opportunity for more tasting, especially for a first time of trying a brewery's beers. But I won't badmouth the setup if/when I know what I like. Having said that, I'd gladly guzzle down another 6oz (or full pour) of that aforementioned Sømmar/October brew as it had nice autumn zing to it (I think cinnamon?). Both pumpkin brews were reasonably solid in their hints of gourd-esque flavor while the Coffee Shake Ale was blonde in color and smooth in flavor, adding nice subtle notes of coffee taste. Second favorite in my book. The only outlier (and boy was it an outlier!) was the Favorite Shortcut IPA. Maybe it was my tastebuds or perhaps that tap line wasn't the cleanest, but something seemed majorly off about that beer. I thought about saying something (probably should've), but chose not to. This might've been because the initial staff members seemed welcoming although a little preoccupied with the swarm of friends/family hanging out that day so I didn't want to rustle any beer feathers. Eh, that's mostly on me, but I still didn't like the mild feel of being of lesser importance to the staff due to their folks being present. A knock on the review star total. Overall, 27A is still a pretty solid brewery with their cute (albeit small) setup and an array of beers that really don't miss the mark...well, mostly (I'm just not sure about that Shortcut one). Despite the solid suds and reasonable enjoyment, I get a notion this could be one of those breweries that falls in the middle of my radar when in search of beer, getting glossed over as a place to stop amongst the ever growing LI beer scene. Only time will tell if this new brewery can hold it down. For now, I'll verbalize 3 1/2 stars but give it the four star treatment and a cheers for good luck going forward. read more

Really cute local brewery. Owners grew up in the town- husband and wife couple. Good beers- everyone liked them. I was a fan of the rainbow cookie stout with a yummy rainbow cookie topper. I mean who doesn't like a rainbow cookie?Everyone's our group like the Blonde Ales. The Strange Times beers have flavors added to the Blonde ales. They have chips and hot pretzels for snacks. The excitement and support around 27A Brewing Company in Lindenhurst, NY is like electricity running through the air. Lindenhurst was home to one of Long Island's first breweries: Linden, which opened in the late-1800's and closed in 1949. It's safe to say that Lindenhurst is pumped for the return of a hometown brewery and the opening of 27A. I've heard people talk about it while out and about doing errands. When I stopped in last night for my first visit I bumped into parishioners (who came straight from the 5pm mass!) who recognized me from work. They were so excited to be there--to be supporting this new local business that they followed via 27A's email list--that they bought beer coozies (made by Points East Surf). There were people of all ages enjoying the excellent beer and the chill atmosphere. I love the decor and the smart touches to make your time there comfortable, such as bag hooks and outlets to charge devices. They have a projector playing old movies on the wall and cozy window seats to relax and enjoy your beer. They have a sweet playlist of rock and alternative playing. I also love that they feature Lindenhurst history by framing old posters for dances and events. It's such a full-circle sort of sentimentality that it warms my heart. Melissa and Ryan really made the space special and so cool. Now on to the beer itself! The Devil's Food stout was so delicious I was shocked I loved it so much, since I usually don't go for stouts. With flavors of chocolate and Entemann's cake, it's legitimately one of the smoothest and most enjoyable beers I've ever had. The Coffee Shake, featuring cold brew from fellow new Lindenhurst business Muni's Coffee Joint was also super tasty. In short, the addition of 27A to not only Lindenhurst but to Long Island as a whole is a game-changer. Stop by for the excellent beer and the super pleasant atmosphere. Bravo, 27A! read more

Cozy place with a small selection of beers made in-house. I like the fact that I can hop off the train and grab a beer after work. Big plus is that they collab with other local businesses. I wasn't a huge IPA fan until their Every Town Has an Elm Street (Any other horror fans out there?) helped make me a believer. I'm hoping to try their rainbow cookie stout soon! read more

I'm happy to see a brewery open in my hometown. It's a small place on the main road. The tasting room is quaint and filled with Lindenhurst nostalgia. They had 4 beers on tap when I visited so I got a flight to sample them all. I suggest you do the same. Each beer was a different style, pale ale, IPA, stout, and a coffee shake. Original establishment used to be a butcher shop - the new owners kept the nostalgic decor framed on the walls. Original marble from the 'butcher days' still as a serving point. New business and hoping they do well in the long run. Only one downside: it's a small brewery. Don't expect a seat at 8 PM on a Friday/Saturday. They do offer growlers to go! read more

Disclaimer: casual craft beer drinker. This place is great- It's very cozy but their service and beers are good. The rainbow stout and strange times series are super tasty. They take their Covid protocol seriously unlike other places, which always makes me feel comfortable despite the small space. I wouldn't recommend coming here with a larger party, and they don't serve food (though, they do have snacks). But, overall a good place with good vibes and I look forward to seeing what they release next! read more

With all of the breweries opening on LI (or really anywhere) you really need to be on your A-game to ensure you outlast the hype. When I hit 27A, they had just opened, and due to the crowds they were out of their NEIPA (which is pretty much all I drink). I ordered a flight of the remaining beers, though I was skeptical because I typically don't like stouts, summer ales, or anything sweet. Each beer tasted better than the last, and I was shocked to find even the their Horchata was amazing (kitschy beers usually lack the complexity and depth I'm looking for and substitute sugar). I live in Levittown and I probably pass 10 breweries to get to this one, but the drive is well worth it. Also, they allow dogs, so that's another huge plus for me (and Bastian). read more

Went to check this place out with a group of friends, actually was enjoying the beers and atmosphere, up until we were wrongly accused of stealing another patrons coat. (That was placed at my groups table and our friend had an identical black coat as well). This "business" posted surveillance footage of my group exiting the bar on social media and promoted their followers to harass me and my fiancé. Totally appalled. They continued to reach out via social media after I apologized and explained I took the coat as i thought my friend left his since it was at our table. They have yet to apologize and continued to post about this on their social media page. Total joke. Will not be returning- unprofessional, accusatory and immature. not sure how this place is running if that's how you conduct business. read more

I drink a lot of beer. I go to a lot of breweries. 27A is by far the absolute best brewery on Long Island. The owners, Ryan and Melissa, are unbelievably friendly and generous. The. Beer. Is. Outstanding. As brewmaster, Ryan excels at making varied well crafted beer. There is always something on the menu that you will love. The blonde (macaron is to die for) is so delicious. The IPA's are so flavorful. I'm not even a fan of stouts, and theirs are fantastic (look out for the rainbow cookie stout)! Melissa has wonderful taste and the decor of their tasting room is very stylish (your girlfriend/wife is sure to find it very cute). All in all, if you want local beer that blows away the competition and is crafted by wonderful people, 27A is the only destination you need on your radar. No brewery even comes close to theirs. The owners and other staff are incredibly friendly, to boot. The decor has lots of local history with some punk rock flavor (to match the typical playlist.) Love this little gem. We all waited for them to open and then haven't been disappointed at all. The beers are all amazing, though the ones with fruit are my favorites. Came here with 3 friends to check out Long Island's newest brewery, but unfortunately the beers missed the mark. Given that they had just opened when we went, they only had 4 beers on tap: Coffee Shake, Cinnamon Horchata, Cruel Sommar, and one other that I can't remember. We each got a flight to try all 4. All of the beers had a weird taste, almost like cleaning fluid. I thought maybe the glasses weren't rinsed good enough after washing them but other people in my group tasted the same thing in their own flights. The Coffee Shake, which I was expecting to be a dark beer but was actually a blonde or golden ale, definitely had that cold brew flavor, but the cleaning fluid taste dominated the beer more than anything. My favorite probably would've been the Cinnamon Horchata had it not been for that awful taste. The other 2 beers were pretty basic and lacked any depth. The one redeeming part about this place is the cozy ambiance, but when I go to a brewery, I go for the beer and not the atmosphere. read more
