It was last year we made an unscheduled stop at this vineyard, and noticed it was also a nursery. What we didn't expect was to discover it to be the most beautiful well kept nursery we've ever seen. As we walked around, we were amazed by the rows and rows of flowers. Everything was neatly arranged, healthy, and obviously cared for with pride. These were some of the finest flowers I've ever seen anywhere. While we were there, we spoke with a gentleman named Steve. He caught our attention when he pulled into the place with his vintage muscle car. I made a promise that day to return this year and buy his flowers. So yes, as promised, we visited this past Thursday, and purchased what we needed for our front and back yard gardens. There planted and by far are the nicest flowers we've ever had in our yard. The quality is outstanding, and the guidance Steve provided made all the difference. Whispers Vineyard & Nursery has earned our business for years to come. This place has a nice space inside and outside. The seating isn't that comfortable but for the short time we were there it was fine. Their selection of wine has a good variety and was decent. The only downside is that there is no descriptions of the wines so we had to ask. Basically the older wines are lighter, then medium then full body are the later the years. Really don't think it would take much for them to at least update that so the customers know. Overall the tasting was good and the atmosphere was nice, even live music on Sunday when we were there. For a local winery they got a lot to offer and even have food if you want a light bite. My husband and I would definitely come back and try some other wines and maybe even the food. read more

It was a beautiful, bright fall day, and the winery we had planned to go to closed. We headed for Whisper as they were the only place around that didn't require an advance reservation. I'm not sure if this is true for every weekend, but this was truly not the vineyard experience I usually have out on the east. First off, half of the place was turned into a pumpkin patch/corn maze, so there were so many little children running around. The seating area looks like someone's junkyard. We had to lug chairs across the whole place because the workers were too busy to seat patrons. The wine was honestly average. There were no flights offered for the entire month of October, so my table ordered separate glasses. None of it was worth noting. We got some cheeses and soppresata. Again, fairly mediocre. The Gouda was ok, but the rest of the board was bland and even the crackers were dry and flavorless. The pizza was also so boring. This place really shouldn't poise or advertise themselves as a winery that people could come and do tastings and have a fun outing in. read more

Short staffed! I waited about 25 minutes to get seated then another 15 minutes for them to take my order. Honestly this was not a good experiences for a vineyard as all I did was wait wait wait. They really should have more staff in the place. Also not to mentioned the vines are across from where they seat you. Both were good - but the pinto was great! And I am not usually a Pinot Grigio girl. I was slightly disappointed that they only offer wine by the glass or bottle at this time. First winery/vineyard I've tried out here in Long Island and I got to say, I've enjoyed it! Great service and options (but due to COVID flight tastings is suspended ). Due to the restriction and other tastings lined up, I had the 2009 Merlot, 2009 Red Cape Blend and the 2010 Cabernet Franc. 2009 Merlot was by far my favorite of the two! It was aged very well, smooth, a not so overwhelming sweet lasting taste, and the aroma was phenomenal! (My family and I love Merlot then Cabernet Sauvignon but they only had Cabernet blends, so we got a bottle of this!) 2009 Red Cape Blend, as you can see on the picture the colorations marvelous and the taste is smooth but not as much of a sweet after taste as the merlot but still a great piece! Some sediments on the bottom but overall a great wine. 2015 Cabernet Franc, this was what they're known for out here and the taste was very unique, and I may know why, I originally sat outside to enjoy some outdoor weather and it wasn't sunny so I took the risk, but it sat in the 88 degree heat for a good ~5 min which I feel gave it that hint of sour taste. Was very unfortunate because the color and initial aroma (smelled it right as it was served) was just amazing! I will definitely be back to try this again but this time I'll sit indoors PS I forgot to take the picture of everything because I didn't want to disturb the huge party there but definitely was worth the hour and a half drive out. read more

This place gets an extra star for being unique to the area and for being much closer than wineries out east! Spontaneously, we decided to visit here on a late Friday afternoon. The interior is spacious, rustic, and welcoming. There's also an outdoor patio area, which is perfect for summer evenings. We chose the long table inside because of the AC. We sampled the reserve, just Merlot, and estate flights. They were all pretty good with my favorite being the red cape blend. Our server was friendly, helpful and informative. We also had the French cheese platter which was fine but definitely overpriced for what was given. I would definitely return especially when I need an hour or two of relaxation sipping on good wine. We've been to Whisper vineyards several times over the years. We live in Smithtown and its a quick trip. The wine has always been ok. The draw for us is the ambiance of a winery so close to home. We enjoy a glass a wine with a cheese platter, without the hassle of driving out to the north fork. It was in this vein that we decided to spend a couple of hours of an early autumn Sunday afternoon at Whisper. We were terribly disappointed. We ordered two glasses of the Reserve Red Cape Blend. It's their best red in my estimation and not very expensive for a Long Island wine. The waitress told us that the cheese platters we had previously ordered were no longer available. She insisted that we each had to purchase individual wraps because of the governor's COVID order. I questioned her about this because I had been to the vineyard before and am familiar with the governor's order. Instead of a nice wrapped platter of cheese and pepperoni, we were forced to choose among an offering of roast beef, turkey, or eggplant wraps. The wine was good, but the glasses were poured to about a quarter of the glass or what I estimate to have been at about a 3 oz pour for $12.50. Then as we were enjoying our small pour of wine while trying to pair the rich blackberry and licorice flavors with a turkey wrap, I saw that the table next to us had received a boxed cheese and pepperoni platter. Bottom line is that I can't recommend this winery. Good wine and good service is an important part of winery experience. Today we experienced extremely bad service and will not be returning for quite a while. read more

I came here in-person to ask about holding a potential bridal shower. The owner was incredibly curt and answered our questions in a way that insinuated we were annoying her and/or couldn't afford the site fee. Reading some other reviews, it seems like the owner will give anyone who has a larger group a hard time. If slightly bigger events are so bothersome to host - to the point where the owner tries to dissuade potential customers - it would save everyone a headache to clarify that Whisper isn't an event venue. I understand local restaurants such as this one still may be recovering from the pandemic, and that time & resources are tight. However, catching an attitude with customers sure seems like a good way to lose a sale. Please do better. read more

If I could rate this 0 stars, I would. I have never had such poor service. After ordering a bottle of wine, which she verbally confirmed, she e were served the wrong bottle of wine and were also wrongfully charged for this bottle. When served, we didn't check the label on the bottle, since we assumed it would be correct. After seeing the bill, we made a comment since the waitress had obviously messed up. After saying this, they refused to take difference in price with the wrongfully charged bottle off our bill. We spoke with the waitress, as well as the owner. We were essentially extorted and they were extremely rude. We didn't even mention the bottle she charged us for, it was the most expensive bottle on the menu. Would not recommend to a friend or honestly anyone. Not to mention we were served water in plastic cups and the menus were crumpled paper. read more

The wines we tasted were very good. I even brought a bottle before we left. The inside of the store was very pretty looked like a classic winery you find on Long Island. However the outside patio is shared with a nursery and is EXTREMELY HOT. Do not sit out side if it is at all warm out. The view is not worth it either. Behind us was the nursery that was empty and the vines are across a very busy street. So you are really sitting in a parking lot on a very busy street. It took For ever to get our food order which was cheese and crackers. That's after we waited forever for a frozen pizza to be warmed up. Only to find out the toppings on the pizza were not what the menu had said and we had to return it. That's probably because the menu has NO information on any of their products wines or food just a list and price. The workers all seemed to be new they tried but didn't really seem to know anything about anything. They were very friendly and welcoming and set a great mood to the place. Beautiful wine boutique ! They have plenty of parking which is great. The Inside is cozy and has a wonderful atmosphere. They sell all wine merch, glasses and beautiful bottle toppers for every season/ holiday. The staff here are so sweet and made our experience even better ! They sell wine by the bottle and glass and even do tasting flights where you pick 4 wines to taste if you're unsure of what you want to order. They also have a build your own cheese board and personal pizzas. The food here is so fresh and beautifully plated on a slate board. The wine is even better ! Laura and Steve (owners) make the wine from the vineyard across the street. They are also the sweetest people who love to come around to introduce themselves and make sure everyone is having a pleasant time. They made us feel very welcomed. This place is freakin' awesome - it was a VERY long wait for all of us in the area, and after much ado, it's finally open. Feel free to read their story on what they had to go through, online, and even a site to dispell all the stupid untrue rumors floating around. The tasting room is gorgeous, it's easily accessible, and when you don't want to go to the NoFo for wine tasting, it's right in your back yard (assuming you're within reasonable distance). Cheers to those who finally got over themselves for allowing such an amazing place to open. My favorites are their 2007 Merlot & 2007 Red Cape Blend. It's what you would expect from a LI Merlot and their Red Cape Blend has a great black pepper / licorice finish going on that is truly enjoyable. Visited a week or so ago, its so great to have a nice winery thats close enough to get to without having to drive all the way out east....and then sit in traffic. They have a nice selection of wines which are steel aged which I prefer, its a cleaner taste. The prices are good for the flights and by the glass. Whats really cool is that they have a NY spirits tasting too!!! Also a few beers on tap. They have some small plates I thought they were a little pricey for the quantity but the quality was very good.There is an indoor tasting room and small gift type shop and a covered outdoor patio which was very nice. Its actually across the road from the vineyard so its scenic. The service was very good too. There isnt a lot of parking if this starts to get busier that could be an issue but it was really enjoyable. All in all a nice way to spend a relaxing afternoon. read more

I'm so glad to have a winery that isn't an hour drive from my house! After a long time overdue we finally made it to Whisper Vineyards on a Saturday afternoon. The tasting room was bigger than I expected and had a nice rustic feeling to it. There was an outdoor patio with tables where you could sip some wine, but it was so humid and muggy out we decided to get a barrel-made table closest to the bar. Justin and I each opted for a flight first. I went with the steel and he did the 9'9'9 flight. Our server was very nice and attentive - our glasses were never empty for long. However in Justin's flight there were red and white wines - but our server kept using the same glass for every wine in his flight (and mine also) (cue nails scratching chalkboard). The wine was okay it was nothing special but I did like the Pinot Gris so I ordered a nice tall glass of that. Overall we had a very nice time and enjoyed our experience here. On Saturdays they have live music which is nice to accompany one while sipping some wine. This place will probably be a spot that I frequentl in the future. Cheers! read more

Good choice for a vineyard if you're from the NYC boroughs, and don't feel driving out 2/3 hours into LI. Not a destination vineyard, but more like stopping by if you're nearby. The wine choices are ok and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is very quiet, not crowded with nice staff. Would probably take the drive deeper into Long Island for a more authentic vineyard experience, and for possibly more interesting wine choices. read more

International Cheese Platter w/ Soppressata...& Crackers It was served on one small slate ...We asked for small serving plates and was told they don't serve with plates. They gave us "TWO" bar napkins and a look as if asking for plates was an oddity! All in all, an OK place if you happen to be in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

Terrible...terrible...terrible. Wish I could give zero stars. Practically the entire staff has an attitude. Customer service is non-existent. A group of ten of us went there and sat at the big picnic table outside. In the 3 plus hours, we were there not one person from the staff ever came to see how we were doing, get us a drink, or even offer us a menu. Not that there is much food to choose from. The small meat and cheese board we wound up getting was overpriced and not very good. We had to get all of our own drinks and menus. They also do not offer flights of wine for sale. They expect you to buy a full glass of wine for $13 plus without knowing how it tastes. When some of the ladies in our group asked to taste the wine, the bartender gave an attitude. I believe in tipping generously if it is deserved. They didn't. At the end of the day, one of the servers actually chased down two of the women who were with us while they waited in line for the tiny bathroom demanding to know why they didn't get a tip. Awful place. There are so many better places to go with better wine and better service so don't waste your time or money going here. read more

The man serving us was friendly and knowledgeable and took the time to really tell us the nuances in the wine. I thought long and hard about writing this review, but I really think it needs to be said that this is a "winery" with a poor location, worse parking, and horrible wine (even by Long Island standards). Atmosphere: The "Winery" is basically a little building and patio attached to a farmstand/greenhouse. We sat on the patio in chairs that were dirty and a little bit sticky. Wine: This is the hard part because we went here with pretty low expectations for the wine and we still had our socks knocked off by how bad it was. The high points (if you can call them that) were the Chardonnay and the Reserve Merlot, but only because they were identifiable as wine. The real problem was everything else some members of our group had the "steel tasting" which included a Rose that tasted like vinegar (and not like a good balsamic more like something you would mix into a salad dressing. It was so bad that we assumed it was corked and pointed this out to the person who worked here and her response was "that's what it's supposed to taste like," which had us completely floored. Bottom line: Why anyone would go here when they can get (at least marginally) better wines and a much better locale at Harmony Vineyards around the corner is beyond us. I have been to 17 different vineyards on the island hoping to try them all. Whisper is a lot more convenient to go to distance wise compared to the north fork vineyards. The tasting room has a cozy country vibe to it and there is an outside seating area surrounded by flowers that they sell. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the wine was good. The only problem I found is while the wine was good (sampled the reserve and estate flights) it wasn't spectacular. After the flights my girlfriend and I ordered a glass each and we went on a Thursday when it's 25%off glasses. The glass of wine cost as much as the flight which I thought was a little ridiculous. Overall I would prefer out east for more flavorful tasting wine but wouldn't discourage anyone from trying this place for themselves. read more

You can taste wines, beer, vodka, bourbon, and whiskey! the amount of tastings is limitless.
