Cider & wine flight
Sarah S.

Stopped by on Friday and I tried all 6 wines! My friend tried two wines and two ciders and it came out to $38 -- tips only accepted in cash Sufficient parking and there weren't any bugs to be found in the cedar chairs near the building. Tons of outdoor seating and the indoor seating is rustic and cozy. Cute bartender :) Pretzels were my only complaint.. they were clearly microwaved and after a flight of wine, I didn't care TOO much but I wouldn't order them again. The temperature and floppyness and speed indicated they were just not *it* but this wasn't Auntie Anne's... (Note they had tons of chips. Get those instead). Peach wine was sweet and I loved but my friend hated. I'm not a cider girl but I had a few sips of hers and I might try a few the next time I stop by!

Been twice now, awesome place! Ciders are tasty (some experimental flavors are better than others), prices are reasonable and pours are generous! Really nice rustic atmosphere, very laid back. I plan to return and I tell my friends to check it out!!

What a cute, cozy cidery. We were going to sit outside but decided to stay indoors. They had a great fire pit going and it smelled great. We had a flight of ciders, honey crisp, caramel, Apple Jacks, dry, blueberry and best of both. Squidward loved the first three and I enjoyed the last three, with a close 4th for the caramel. Great place to hang out and relax. Bring your own snacks, they have chips, cheese and I believe pretzels. Staff were great very friendly and happy to help. I of course got my hoodie!!!

I love Yankee Cider! I've been here a few times now and usually order a flight. There hasn't really been a cider I didn't enjoy, but I will say that I've tried some of the wines and don't particularly care for them. The location is pretty secluded with plenty of seating outside during warm weather. It can be busy inside with limited seating, especially if there's an event going on, but there's enough space around the bar to stand. The staff is always super nice, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the various ciders. During my recent trip, I chose the Captain Coit Blueberry, Rochambeau Raspberry, Concord Grape, Birch, Caramel Cider Donut, and the Apple Pie Sangria - I enjoyed them all. In all, I'm always looking forward to future trips to try new flavors. If you like hard cider as much as I do, then I highly recommend a visit!

I was very impressed! Great seasonal cider with quite a few varieties. I recommend their Jack O Lantern Cider and Rhubarb wine. They had a fried chicken food truck that was "farm to food truck." We loved the two massive fire pits on the property- kept us there for hours!

The perfect fall adventure! Their hours right now are Thursday, 4-7PM, Friday 4-9:30PM Saturday 12-9:30 PM and Sunday 12-7PM. We went on a Sunday and it was the best time. It was only a 40 minute drive and so worth it! It was decorated for Halloween and that made it even better. Yankee Cider is Connecticut's first farm cidery tap room. Pretty sweet. The original orchards date back to the 1950s when Emil Staehly came to East Haddam from Colchester. A long-time sweet cider producer, his knowledge was passed to his son and grandson who both started Staehly Farm Winery. Check out these hard cider amazing flavors that were available this week: New England Dry Hard Cider - #1 Honeycrisp Blend Hard Cider - #2 Captain Coit Blueberry Hard Cider - #3 Rochambeau's March Raspberry Hard Cider - #4 Tart Cherry Hard Cider - #5 Devil's Hooves Hopped Hard Cider - #6 Peanut Butter Hard Cider - #7 Concord Grape Hard Cider - #8 Best of Both Hard Cider- #9 Caramel Hard Cider - #10 Applejack O'Lantern Hard Cider - #11 Stone fence Rum Barrel Aged Hard Cider - #12 I went for the #5 Tart Cherry and it was delicious! I ordered a flight and also had the Peanut Butter Hard Cider with the Concord Grape Hard Cider as a chaser---hello Peanut Butter and Jelly! So good! The Caramel and Applejack O' Lantern were also favorites. Great fall flavors! We really hit a homerun in flavor selections and setting. Roaring fire pit on premises, friendly people and they even have food. I got apple dessert nachos! Talk about fun. Bring your friends, grab a table and enjoy the day at Yankee Cider Co. Kevin, the owner was there and couldn't be friendlier. Great business. Support local.

Yankee Cider Company is a craft farm cidery that opened in East Haddam, Connecticut in August 2019. It was founded by father and son Chris and Kevin Staehly. The orchards that supply the apples for the cider date back to the 1950s when Chris' father Emil Staehly came to East Haddam from Colchester. A long-time sweet cider producer, Emil's knowledge was passed down to his son and grandson. Chris founded Staehly Tree Farm in East Haddam in 1985 as a choose and cut Christmas tree farm. The property was originally owned by the Diamond Family and dates back to the 1700s. Staehly Farm Winery was added to the tree farm in 2014, with a primary focus on high-quality fruit wines. In 2016, the Staehly Family purchased the nearby Protz Family Farm (a 20-acre parcel). Yankee Cider Company was officially founded in 2016, but it would be a few more years before they opened a tasting room to the public. The Staehly Family began renovations on the original barn on the Protz property and transformed it into Connecticut's first farm cidery tap room. My wife and I visited Yankee Cider Company for the first time this past weekend. It was a crisp Autumn day. The converted barn was beautiful! In addition to carrying bottles of their cider, Yankee Cider Company also carries bottles of Staehly Farm wines. I decided to order a taster flight. My flight consisted of "New England Dry", "Honeycrisp", "Rochambeau's March Raspberry Cider", "Devil's Hooves" (a double hopped honeycrisp cider), "Peanut Butter", and "Applejack O'Lantern" (a pumpkin spice cider). I thought that all of the ciders were delicious, but I especially liked the last two. My wife had a pour of the Apple Cider Sangria which was served in a cinnamon-sugar rimmed glass; she loved it! I ended up purchasing a bottle of "Applejack O'Lantern" to take home. The bottle even glows in the dark! Overall, we had a very nice time at Yankee Cider Company and we look forward to returning in the future.

My daughter came back from a semester in England with a new found love for hard cider, so we've been checking out different cider spots. This place is a rustic barn with indoor and outdoor seating. They offer cider flights so you can sample a few flavors. They range from dry to sweet and we each found something that we liked. The staff was welcoming and informative. The day that we went, there was a pizza truck on-site. It is a nice place to relax and enjoy the company you are with over some yummy cider.

Very knowledgeable staff on their ciders and wines. Barn tasting atmosphere. Very friendly. The non alcoholic cider is delicious, hard ciders were fair. I recommend getting the flight of 6 to try as many as you can!!!

Hidden gem near Gillette Castle. Delicious cider especially the one that is 1/2 cider and 1/2 hard cider. Do the sampler

Ronald lived in London, England for a time and worked as a graphic designer. While in London, he saw how popular hard ciders were and it sparked his interest in the beverage. After returning to the states, he began making his own cider at home and enrolled in programs at Cornell and Oregan State Universities. He won numerous accolades over the years from his homemade ciders. Eventually, the Sansones decided to open their own cidery that featured hard ciders made from locally sourced apples. The cidery officially opened to the public in 2016 inside Middletown's old Remington Rand building. The historic building complex opened in 1896 as the Keating Bicycle Factory. Throughout the decades, motorcycles, automobiles, typewriters and even military missile parts were manufactured there. The building closed its doors in the early 1970s and fell into disrepair. The city later took it over and by 2009 it had been refurbished with several new tenants renting space inside. Sansone named the cidery 'Spoke & Spy' as a reference to the building's history as a bicycle factory as well as the Northern Spy Apple (one of Sansone's favorite varieties). I first visited Spoke + Spy in August 2019. I was training for the upcoming Closer To Free ride, so I decided to cycle from my home in North Haven all the way to Middletown (21 miles). By the time I made it to the cidery, I was very thirsty. The taproom is decorated with all sorts of bicycle memorabilia. I decided to order a sampler flight that consisted of six ciders ranging in flavors from pear to grape. I liked them all, but my favorite was a tart, semi-dry strawberry-rhubarb cider called "Love Shouldn't Hurt". I ended up purchasing a growler of it to bring back home. If you plan on visiting the cidery in Middletown, I must recommend making it a craft beer afternoon because the Remington Rand building is also home to Stubborn Beauty Brewing and Forest City Brewing.

Cool place. I guess new thing in CT is touring breweries…read more We did 3 brewery tour while we were visiting CT. This place is located right next to Forest City Brewery. I never tasted cider as beer, but liked them a lot. We tried a flight with 8 different ciders. Some tasted like apple juice with bubbles, but pretty good. It was 20F below out side, in side of this old factory converted brewery was not much warmer, but extremely good ambience. Definitely we will visit here again whenever we are in CT.

I was in the area on a beautiful day and decided to pop into a new-to-me local spot for a drink…read more That's how I ended up at New England Cider Company. It's tucked inside an old industrial park. If you're not looking closely, you'll drive right past it. Outside, there's a casual setup with a tent, whiskey barrel tables, and some umbrellas, which sounds nice in theory, but the grass really needed a cut. It kind of took away from the whole outdoor vibe. I was planning to sit out there, so that was a bit of a letdown. Inside was a pleasant surprise. It's much bigger than it looks from the outside. The bar is right at the entrance, which made it feel like a high-traffic zone, so not ideal for lingering. There was a private party in the main room, so I headed back outside to enjoy the sun. Now to the cider: I asked for 2 samples and ended up with the cider that I didn't actually choose, but hey, I'm not one to make a fuss so I went with it. The cider I wanted was actually pretty tasty, so I might return just to give the menu another try. You know how some ciders are sweet and yummy? The one I got was the kind that tastes sour but has a higher ABV. Still good, but my goal was sweet and yummy. Service was fine but not overly warm. Nothing bad, just not memorable. Would I go back? Sure, on a really nice day. If they had live music, I'd absolutely give it another shot. There's potential here, especially for cider fans, but it's not quite my go-to yet. They did have a very cool bathroom sink. Points for that!
