Sowams was the perfect stop on our trip to enjoy a few samples of delicious ciders. These ciders are mostly dry and sweet and very fresh! The server did a wonderful job taking us through the complexity of each pour even down to where the apples were grown! They press the ciders on site and have antique presses as decor! My husband and I went to Sowams for the first time yesterday. We were the only customers there, and happened to be served by the owner. The owner, Spencer, was incredibly nice and taught us everything about the ciders from the pressing to the serving. Spencer has his own orchard so the apples and entire process are from him. You can tell he loves what he does, by the passion in which he speaks of everything. The cider was delicious, each one we tried better than the next. We even got a fifth and unexpected tasting, which was delicious. The ambiance is relaxed, inviting and feels like you're in the middle of a mill, which I loved. It's so welcoming! I LOVE this place! I'd give them 10 stars if I could. It's a super cozy spot with a beautiful bar, nice outdoor seating and beautiful homemade tables. The cider is some of the best I've ever had, and they even have fresh apples for eating out of hand. The service is amazing! While we tasted, we were taught about the difference in apples as well as the process of cider making. What a fun little place in the Bristol/Warren area! They took a classic bar and put it in a cider mill, the flow is amazing and the custom swivel seats are unique and highly functional. Our hostess, Meg, was super sweet and very knowledgeable on the apples and the ciders. We opted to try a flight of four and were treated to a very unique experience. They each had very unique flavors to each other, as well as to other ciders we have tried. My personal favorite was the Virginia Crab. My wife preferred the Roxbury Russet. After our tasting we each opted for a glass of our favorite cider and more conversation with our lovely hostess! Not only does Warren Cider Works have delicious ciders to please any palate, they also have great hours for weeknight and weekend fun alike (our biggest complaint with so many wineries that we frequent). I stopped off here on a Fall bike ride--it's right off of the bike path in Warren. The shop is absolutely adorable, with a bunch of cider presses in the back and cider crates as seats. They have a flight of 4 ciders for $10 which is an amazing deal. It also comes with some breadsticks and we got a little free sample of Cabot cheese. The cider is less sweet than you may be used to, but I really enjoyed hearing about the apple crops and tasting notes from the proprietor. It's great to hear from someone who is so passionate about their work. If you're taken with a particular cider, you can buy full bottles and even loose cider apples (just make sure that you have change). Sowams Cider Works is the definition of a hidden gem! This place is super cute. You can get a flight which is more like a wine tasting than a flight. They bring you one cider at a time to try. There are 4 ciders. They explain each one and then you can get more drinks if you like. The flight is very reasonably priced and the place is cute. There's outdoor seating and indoor seating. They have hard cider available by the glass or you can get a flight. My boyfriend and I each opted for a flight so that we could taste all 4 ciders they had on tap for $10. Great balanced flavors - 2 were on the sweeter side, and 2 were dry. If you find a cider you particularly enjoy, they sell them by the bottle as well. Warren Cider Works is an adorable micro-cidery. The owner is friendly and happy to tell you all about what you're drinking if you come in for a flight. During the fall he sells his own apples that you'd be hard pressed to find in any grocery store because his varieties are rare and diverse. The ciders are neither overly sweet nor sparkling so if you're a fan of Angry Orchard style ciders you best go elsewhere. Stopped in for a cider tasting during a vacation to Newport and was very pleased with the experience! Spencer was super knowledgeable about all of the different ciders and their nuances and was very friendly and hospitable during our visit, even giving us bread sticks as a palate cleanser. I read an article about the opening of Warren Cider Works and out of curiosity and a desire to support a local business I stopped by the store. I received a warm welcome and loved the simplicity of the place. I am not much of a wine drinker and the idea of drinking fermented cider did not have much appeal but even so I bought a bottle to bring home. After a brief discussion I decided on the Winesap 67. We opened the bottle this evening and my preconceived ideas of what hard cider would be like were so wrong. The cider was light, dry and refreshing. This is a must-see for locals or visitors. The space is quite attractive with art, old presses, a comfortable bar and bar stools, standing tables made of their apple crates, and outdoor seating as well. The bartenders know everything about the ciders, which are of the highest quality, and made with local apples and no preservatives or other chemicals. We stopped in on a Saturday night. This was not our destination of choice. Never thought this was our type of place. We couldn't find an empty barstool anywhere in Warren. We figured there was no better time than now to try it. We had a flight and a glass of cider each. The 2 flights or tastings whichever you prefer to call it and 2 glasses were 45 dollars without tip. The woman behind the bar was very friendly. She explained everything and was very engaging. Not sure if this is the Meg that others refer to, we did not get her name. I was not expecting the ciders to be so similar to very dry wines. If you are expecting them to taste the same as the off the shelf hard ciders there is a real difference. I was also not expecting the high alcohol content. The 4 ciders offered the night we were there ranged from the low 7% to low 9% in alcohol content. I found only one of the ciders that I disliked enough not to order. The other 3 were actually pretty good. I remembered the bar from many years ago when it was located in the Blue Point restaurant on South Main in Providence. Overall it is a very small and inviting space. We will try it again at some point. read more
