Our bill was brought to us right away and we were helped frequently through lunch. What more can you ask for?! Oh good music, they had that too :)

We sat there for about 20 minutes before we were even noticed by the bar tender. All I wanted was a hot cup of coffee and some hot pretzels with cheese sauce. My husband just ordered a water. The coffee was so nasty that I sent it back and swapped out for a hot chocolate, which was also horrible and pretty much brown water. We sat and waited patiently for our order as the place was busy. 45 minutes later, the bartender informed us that she forgot to put in the order and that they are out of pretzels. I was pissed. The bartender comped the lousy beverages and my husband's undercooked Italian pizza bites. Will never go there again. Such a wasted day

Our server came promptly and got our beverages quickly. After that, not so good. Our food took longer than we thought it would, since the kitchen wasn't busy. After it arrived, we were very disappointed. The burger was well-done instead of medium, and had cheese, which was NOT asked for. The "TOTS" that seem to be a popular item tasted like Ore Ida tater tots, were cold, and there was no condiment service (salt/pepper) on the table. Carnitas tacos. Hmmm. I expected the corn shells to be crunchy, but they were moist, and the filling was a drab lump of something gray. Cold as the tots. We just ate because we didn't have the time to wait for 2 meals to be recooked. Sorry, but we'll enjoy other local eateries in town.

We got the veggie risotto and the summer grain bowl. We did not get to try any drinks. I wish the risotto was better and it was actually risotto. It was more like cheesy rice with a few starchy vegetables in it. The summer grain bowl was heavy on the arugula and quinoa, and somewhat stingy on the additives (grapes, strawberries and almonds). The staff had a hard time figuring how to take my payment, though were very nice and apologetic about it. No napkins or eating utensils were included in our take out bag. Perhaps if we came in the late afternoon, we would have had a better experience. I really wanted to like them. We would be open to another opportunity to try it.

Still, I only got to two of the places. Since I already went to Downeast recently I wanted to try Far From The Tree in Salem. But with an itinerary that defied the laws of physics I had to cross off some spots and I'm grateful that Downeast mixed it up with new seasonal offerings and non-store exclusives. The flight started with white peach, a perfect light and summery creation. Then strawberry rhubarb brilliantly deployed a note of earthiness to reduce the sweetness. As for black cherry, to quote Some Kind of Monster, I would delete that one, as it lacked the distinction of its neighbors. But the finale was a success, the proudly non-traditional cider donut, an epic blast of sugar and cinnamon (?).
