Fun place to pop into during salem trip. Flight was reasonable price and enjoy eached tasting. Bartenders were helpful and polite. Ample seating
Excellent cider! The selection of ciders is varied enough from dry to semi sweet that most people should be able to find their right fit. It runs a bit sweet for me, but still very good. Service was wonderful, thank you. I like the bar area, very comfortable, but I don't like whatever is going on with the tacky plastic string covered wall. The patio is nice in concept, but it needs some sprucing up, just some barrels of plants will help.
Confusing on where and how to order. No snacks or food. just some terrible cider flights in the pouring rain. Disappointed in all the raves.
I have ordered multiple times from far from the tree cider so when we decided we were coming to the Boston area, I knew I wanted to take some time and come up to actually visit the cider house that I love so much. While this location is located about a 15 minute walk from the main downtown area of Salem, the walk is pretty easy. We got there around 2:30 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and the location was fairly steady. They did have live music as well. We both ordered the honeydew slushy and absolutely loved it. I wish there was a way to be able to ship it to Florida as it was so amazing. I also got a flight so I could try some of the new ciders that I hadn't had before. Or all they were good I think my favorite was the broken heart and the Collab for the dog adoption.
I'll start with the good. The ciders were yummy! We got a flight of 4 for $20. They have a lot of fun flavors, and one for the current zodiac. It seems they rotate them pretty frequently. The bad- the atmosphere. Maybe we got them at a bad time, but it was DEAD inside. The floors and walls were cement, it felt like we were drinking in an unfinished basement. If the place had some more decor and a few more patrons we might have stayed longer. But we drank our flights fast and Ubered out. The bar is a bit far from downtown. It's walkable, but after two days of 20k steps an Uber was in order.
*DOG FRIENDLY* I came here for a Gals Best Pal adoption event, loved the inside and outside space. The peach cider was yummy and next time I'll try to slushie
As major Hocus Pocus fans when I spotted my two favorite things Cider and Hocus Pocus themed flights I knew I had to try it. I was certainly not disappointed! It is outside of the big hustle and bustle but not too far of a walk. We walked in and ordered our drinks and in less than a couple of minutes we were trying our flights. The only down fall is Far From The Tree Cider is not located closer to where I live. Certainly a great place to relax with friends and have a fantastic pour!
The person behind the bar was so friendly as soon as we walked in. We were near by for an event and I had seen their pride flight on instagram and was intrigued. Not every flavor was a 5/5 for me, but I loved the creativity with each flavor! The sour cherry almond was one of my favorites, and my boyfriend really liked the key lime coconut. There were a few parking spots behind the building and there were both indoor and outdoor seating. There's also two slush machines with rotating flavors- perfect for this summer heat. The pride flight was only for the month of June but I'm excited to see what additional flavors they'll showcase in the following months!
If you like ciders this is the place for you. The flight was good but a little too sweet & flavorful for me. I did enjoy the Lei which was a pineapple jalapeño cider & their flagship Massachusetts cider is always nice & refreshing. They also had two frozen ciders you could order at the time. The spot looks to be an old mechanic shop of some kind & they have a nice little out door area off to the side. It does get pretty hot in there on warm days so be prepared for some condensation on your drinks.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at the ciders here! We tried the Hocus Pocus flight and they were all beautifully flavored and delicious! Definitely a "must stop" when visiting Salem!
Stopped by for the Hocus Pocus Cider Flight! The flavors were so unique. This is a great spot that is a little off the beaten path from the main streets of Salem and is a calm retreat from the busy tourism. It was a beautiful spot to sit and relax in between museum tours!
Make sure to venture a couple of blocks away from the hustle and bustle of all the shops and restaurants in Downtown Salem and make your way to Far from the Tree Cider to sit down and take a break while tasting a delicious variety of draft ciders. All the ciders are made from locally grown apple and with some 11 different flavors to try from, there's bound to be a favorite or favorites for everyone. Since I prefer my beverages on the less sweet side, I chose mostly the drier ciders. My friend who has more of a sweet tooth ordered the sweeter flavors and that way we were able to try some 8 varieties of ciders by tasting each others flights. All delicious in their own way we both finished all our pours with my favorite being the Winifred , with hints of tangerine, cherry and ginger. And with it being close to Halloween, there were some seasonal flavors like Extoplasm , bright almost neon green in color like Slimer from Ghostbusters , and a cute Hocus Pocus themed flight, I wanted to try them all but sadly I was pressed for time so had to pass on some of these. The place itself is cute with seating inside and outside with an adorable apple tree in the middle of their outside patio which was decorated with little skulls fitting for Halloween season. What else can one ask for, Cider, Halloween month and Salem, perfect combo to get all the Fall Vibes feel.
This was the number one destination for me when we can to the area. The two things I wanted to do was visit the distillery and the cider. After visiting two breweries by accident and the distillery, we finally made it to the cider. yay! This place was awesome because they had some really good ciders. We were able to sit outside and enjoy our ciders. I had picked maybe 6 different ciders to sample and then got a glass of something that I liked. Juicy Mix was my favorite, it was a low ABV but delicious. Not many hard cideries out there but this was one of my favorite that we've tried. Cheers!!
Had a lovely experience here for the fall season. Bar is indoor/outdoor with awesome Halloween and fall decor. They had a fall theme menu of beers and ciders and are known for their hocus pocus themed drinks! Our bartender asked us if it was our first time and was more than happy to introduce the money and answer our questions. I would love to come back here when I return to Salem! read more

Aside from the bee swarm this place was super cool. Loved the seasonal menu that included the hocus pocus cider flight which I enjoyed! There was a vendor that I was looking forward to seeing who didn't show last minute which was a bummer. This place is a little long walk from the main square. I found out after that they do have a shuttle that runs not sure if that was just for the season. Went here after finishing a very long walking tour so some steps saved would have been nice. I can't wait to visit again! read more
Leave it to the Witch City to have an entire brewery devoted to ciders. I was first drawn to FFTT by their social media advertising all of the fun and creative events they put on. One of the most impressive things about FFTT is how often they feature new ciders. Follow their Instagram to get the updates but it feels like at least once a month they have new offerings. They have live music on the weekends and are expanding some of their weeknight events and offerings. FFTT has become my favorite brewery in Salem and I look forward to all they have in store. read more

A small bachelor party, four of us, came here on a hot and humid Wednesday evening to round out a day of fun for the groom-to-be, and we had a nice time here! We pulled in around 5:30pm on a Wednesday to plenty of parking spots, which we ended up parking in the lot closest to Jefferson Ave. We walked in and were greeted by the wonderful bartenders who went over the cider menu with us. Once we grabbed our drinks, we grabbed a picnic table outside with an umbrella (thank goodness, we had enough sun for the day haha). I ordered a glass of the "Rickey", a cherry-lime flavored semi-sweet cider. This was excellent, just what I was looking for after a walking around downtown Boston all day in the sun and humid air. It tasted very much like a cherry-lime soda without being tart at the end. Now, I'm not a big hard cider drinker, but I was very pleased with Far From the Tree. Friendly staff and tasty hard beverages, hard to go wrong. Next time I'm in Boston, I wouldn't mind stopping by here to get away from the city for a moment. read more
Highly recommend for October / Halloween! I walked from downtown Salem area, about 10 minute walk through a pretty neighborhood. It looks like they have parking if you want to drive. Ample indoor and outdoor seating and such great attentive staff. They have an amazing hocus pocus special with 4 flavors around the characters, they were actually so tasty too. Binx was my fave! I even bought a 4 pack to take home. 10/10! read more

Far From The Tree is a craft cidery that opened in Salem, Massachusetts in August 2015. It was founded by husband and wife Al and Denise Snape. The two first met in 2007. As a hobby, they experimented with wine that they made from home winemaking kits. After their passion for wine deepened, they decided to quit their jobs and move to England. Al enrolled in the B.S. program in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Brighton, Plumpton College. It is the only European winemaking degree taught in English. Al lived and worked at various wineries throughout Europe while on breaks from school. Eventually the couple became more interested in making cider. When they realized that it would be easier to grow apples instead of grapes in New England, they decided to open their own craft cidery. My wife and I first visited Far From The Tree while we were visiting Salem in October 2015. It was a really cool place that was close to the center of town, but far away enough from the large Halloween crowds. I decided to order a flight of five ciders: (1) a dry traditional cider that was barrel fermented and barrel aged, (2) a saison cider with coriander and Orange rind, (3) a dry-hopped mint cider, (4) an oaked maple cider, and (5) a French style Keeved cider. My favorites were the mint cider ("Sprig") and the oaked maple cider ("Cord"). I decided to purchase some growlers of them to take home. We also got to witness a demonstration on an antique cider press and were even treated to some freshly pressed sweet cider. A couple of years later, I was at a package store in Sturbridge, Massachusetts where I found some cans of their cider called "Ectoplasm". This cider (which they only make around Halloween time) is made with semi sweer, green bell pepper, jalapeño and kiwi. The ingredients give the cider a neon green glow. It looks like something that was left behind by Slimer from "Ghostbusters". More importantly, it tastes delicious! read more

Such a great assortment of Ciders! My husband loved the hot mulled cider and keeps talking about it! The bartender knows his stuff and really helped narrow things down. It's a cool industrial type of space, fun to bring friends and play some games while enjoying your cider! read more
Cool space with a good variety of interesting ciders. Nothing else like it we saw in the area. Gated outdoor area with an apple tree. Lots of space and artwork. They allow dogs so you can bring yours or make friends and creep on their dog like we did. My wife and I got a tasting fight of the entire board (we weren't driving, don't judge us), here it is in order from our most to least favorite: 1)Guava - guava with a spicy kick, so nice, warm ans good 2)Chai - very nice apple chai. Great, goes very well together 3)Cherry - tassty 4)Mac- tasty and drinkable. The most plain/ straightforward but probably makes sense for most people 5)Rye - can definitely taste the rye but still light 6)Nova - drinkable slight hop 7)Hammer - def watermelon but like watermelon gone bad 8)Rose - grapefruit rose cider, some liked it, i didn't read more

The ciders at far from the tree cider house in Salem, Massachusetts were so delicious and refreshing! We had so much fun here enjoying each others company and enjoying a variety of unique and yummy hard apple ciders! We tried the "pocus flight" which of course was named after the Sanderson sisters and binx! Let me tell you this flight was completely on brand and the best hard ciders I have ever had! Our second flight was also incredible and unforgettable! The second flight of ciders included cherry bomb, candy apple, macachusetts, and nova. All of these flavors were so bussin and we had a blast trying them! Swipe to photo #6 to see the menu which includes a flavor profile of each of these hard ciders! Side note: I still can't believe they played party like a millionaire! Sam and I loved the millionaires so much in high school and still do! Lol we were shook! Great music, amazing service, yummy drinks and the best people to enjoy them with! Thankyou so much to @farfromthetreecider read more

Far From the Tree Cider is a far cry from your typical preconceived notion of what cider is or should be. This little gem is nestled in downtown Salem and delivers tons of ambiance, attitude, and aspiration in what is becoming a crowded market of craft cider. While there is not a lot of parking, or available food (they have food trucks and vendors always present to make sure you can have some small bites or food to pair), they deliver some of the best combinations and experimental batch cider I've had anywhere in the country. One of the other really interesting things they do is only tap small or pony kegs of the experimental which means no two visits (unless you're a frequent flier) will likely be the same. This goes for not only the seasonal varieties such as Margarita for Cinco De Mayo, the Pumpkin Spice for the fall, and Apple of My Chai (holidays), but they frequently experiment with different types of apples, yeasts, and ratios to see if they can improve upon. Flights, draft pints, and 4 pack cans are all very reasonably priced (be careful though, some of the offerings are higher than 7% ABV) compared to some of the local shops that carry their cider. It's cheaper than most of the craft beers in Cambridge (including if you buy at the brewery) which is also a nice bonus if you stop in and buy straight from the source. Since the food is not made/served by them I omitted those considerations in my ranking, but when we were there a doughnut shop was there and they looked awesome and drew a huge line. HOWEVER, if you enjoy cider that is not too sweet and a little on the crafty side you should hurry up and get closer with Far from The Tree. You won't regret that decision. read more
Went here on a whim last weekend and so glad we did! The ciders were good, outdoor patio was great, and overall just a fun experience! We brought our dogs and a few blankets which made the afternoon so relaxing and easy to enjoy. Other people brought their own food to eat from elsewhere. The patio looks like it would open directly to the inside if the weather was warmer and garage doors could go up, which I think would make the atmosphere even more engaging! A couple things to note for when you do visit: off-street parking is limited, and they don't do tabs (so be prepared to pay for each individual round of drinks while you're here). But overall, still worth it to visit if cider is your thing! read more

Went to Far from the Tree Cider during our trip to Salem. So glad Jack was working when we went. He recommended the Honeydew Cider Slushies, and they were AMAZING. Moreover, Jack was friendly, helpful, and gave us great customer service. Thanks for the suggestions Jack, and thanks for these BOMB ciders. read more
Not being familiar with Salem, I have to admit this place seems kinda sketchy from the outside. But as the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. Far From The Tree is a cool place to hang out and have a drink. The parking lot is small, but there's a good amount of free parking available on the streets. The inside was dimly lit and a bit cramped, but I went on a Saturday night for an event so of course it was more crowded than usual. They have a nice outdoor area with tables, which I'd like to check out another time when there isn't snow on the ground. Now, the ciders: excellent. Great variety of flavor profiles from traditional dry cider to sweet fruit-infused ciders. For $14 you can get a flight of 4 four ounce pours of cider, which is what I opted to do. I got the Heritage and Earl ciders (regularly on the menu) as well as the special Flambeaux and Cordial ciders. The staff served the cider from dry to sweet which I thought was a nice gesture. I enjoyed all the ciders I tried. Heritage: a refreshing cider, dry but not too dry Earl: my favorite of the flight - a cider steeped with earl grey tea with a citrusy bergamot flavor Flambeaux: a special Mardi Gras cider infused with peach and Serrano chili pepper for a nice spicy kick Cordial: inspired by the cherry cordial candy with cherry, chocolate, and vanilla flavors for a subtle sweetness They sell growlers and many of their ciders in cans, as well as some exclusive ciders in bottles. Oh, and they allow dogs, which is always a plus in my book. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the Salem area and enjoy a creative hard cider. read more

oh my lord...why have i been to salem 2 times and just discovered this place now?! where the hell have i been? to be honest, its a bit off the beaten path, but i highly suggest taking that path. theres a great outdoor patio, plenty of seating and tables. the inside is cool too. i died and came to cider heaven. nice flights, a little high in price, but you are getting unique and tasty ciders. friendly staff too! love the merch! i will GLADLY come back a 4th and 5th and 6th time. read more

Really nice stop in Salem! A bit out of downtown so it was a bit of a walk but not bad! Really big space and 8 different Cider options. I paid $38 for 2 flights that let me try each type. Our bartender was really nice and chatting with us. Didn't feel rushed going the hour before close & overall good vibes. read more
I hate to give this place 3 stars because it was a good atmosphere and good service. I decided to go with a flight to get a taste of everything and i wasn't a big fan of any of them. The reason i decided to go with 3 stars was because there was a hair in one of my beers. Otherwise they would of gotten 4 stars since my own tastebuds shouldn't define their ratings. The beer was quickly replaced but it just left a bad taste in my mouth since it was the first cider i tried. Otherwise, the outdoor patio is really nice and the indoor ambiance is good too. I do recommend coming here to try their ciders out. read more
