    four different types of cid

My first time visiting their new location since they opened. Have a lot more space than they previously did in Rochester. They have indoor/outdoor seating with a covered garage like area with some lawn games. Build your own flight with as many tastings as you like. I still think nothing compares to their Firestarter however, their Blue Crush was a new one I enjoyed, can really taste the tropical fruit flavors of the pineapple and mango.

This is a hidden gem! You drive through town and keep getting farther into town, thinking is this right? But it is! And it's gorgeous. Although full disclosure I was there during high fall color in mid-October. It's a small tasting room with a little counter. Even on a Wednesday early evening (about 5 pm) the limited indoor seating was crowded. I ordered 4 4 ounce tastes: (I prefer sweeter cider. Was informed they don't add sugar so I was a bit apprehensive.) Original press- nice basic cider with a really nice apple flavor. Sweetie pie- could definitely taste the strawberry. Not overly sweet but I could definitely drink lots of this. Pollination- this was OK but not my favorite of the bunch. It was sweetish, but an extra flavor I didn't love. I could still drink a good amount, but not my favorite. Fire starter- this was a huge surprise. I tried it because you have to, right? But I really liked it! I like spicy but typically don't like savory drinks or spicy drinks. This definitely had some finishing heat, but not overwhelming. But it was surprisingly good. It would probably be better with food, but I really enjoyed it. Overall this was a great venue, lots of tourists like me and locals, with a great selection of in house brewed ciders. I'd definitely come back regularly.

Great variety of ciders. We got a flight to try them all. A lot of them were on the tart side, and they had a couple unique ones with ginger, rum, and bourbon. Our favorite was Wulf Kitty! We ended up buying a 4 pack afterwards. It would have been nice if there was a discount for buying cans or growlers after trying a flight. There were a few picnic tables for seating. Luckily, it was a nice day out and not crowded.

Only 40 minute from our home, we come every other week as they have new cider brews! They have 9 coders on tap and you can get cans or growlers to take home. Great outdoor seating at the end of an old warehouse, next to the river. Great place, bring food with you and take a break!

My best friend and I ...mostly her did some research. We had dined at a restaurant where they served Honey badger cider. Our waiter informed us it was local...why there was research. She discover North country was the creator and the following Saturday road trip to the very amazing gem of a find. The place was busy as soon as the doors were open. There were several returning patrons refilling their empty growlers for new ones. My best friend her husband and I decided to take advantage of their tasting room! We all ordered flights. It was a great way to try all they had to offer. There were 9 flavors on tap. BFF and I tried the same 7. Her husband all 9. They were wonderful I chose not to try Rye or Hopshire. I am not a fan of beer and I felt these two flavors of cider would be in the flavor profile. There original press.. is semi-sweet and very clean tasting. Honey badger the flavor that started our journey was clearly my favorite very crisp and clean apple flavors. Bitter Brothers was sample 3 and was good but my personal least favorite it was a bit on the tart side. Then there was Phil... refreshingly tart and made with green apples was good reminded me of green apples right before you bake them in a pie it was the perfect balance of sweet and tartness. Wulf Kitty is a combo of cherry tangerine and ginger! This was my first glass emptied it was the perfect balance off flavors and very refreshing! Sugar shack.... yum! It has notes of maple, ginger and black walnut. It was dessert in a glass. Then there was Fire Starter. Cinnamon, pomegranate and Viel's habaneros. Another great flavor profile and that last sip has quite the bite! Can't wait to return!

I love North Country Hard Cider so much! The combination of its location, which is right along a river, with their delicious cider, is unbeatable. Just thinking back to sitting along the river and drinking a flight of cider brings me joy, and it's been quite a while since I went. We shared a flight of their pollination blend (fermented with apple blossom honey), original press, double down, wulf kitty (cherry, ginger, and tangerine zest), and sweetie pie (strawberries & rhubarb). My favorite flavor was the sweetie pie, which tasted like a refreshing version of strawberry and rhubarb pie. I also loved the wulf kitty blend, which had a great balance of sweet and tart. My least favorite was the double down, but I'm not a fan of smoky, aged flavors. The original press was solid- not too dry nor too sweet, and their pollination blend was also really good. I'd highly recommend checking out North Country Hard Cider whether or not you're in the area. It's absolutely worth a drive.

Cute place near a small river. Fall leaves were so pretty. The place is small but it wasn't busy so it was fine. They do have outdoor seating. The guy who works there is so friendly and comforting. You can get a tasting menu of all 10 ciders for 24 bucks. The strawberry rhubarb one was so good and different. They have snacks worth chips and pirate booty but I think something more substantial would be good since it is a lot of liquid.

    Welcome !

Why are you not closer to my home! What a hidden gem. We were driving home from a quick weekend away, and decided we wanted to see your brewery. Then, we said hey! I wonder if there's a cider taproom around. So we googled it. And found this wonderful place. We each got a flight. Flights are 4,5 or six choices. And each one was more More flavorful then the next one. There were some special offerings when we were there as well. Even the chips were yummy. We left with two bottles of fire starter cider, and one bottle each of the branch cider and one of the wolf kitty. Loved it here. Love the vibe, love the people, even love Jack the dog. We will definitely be back if we can find a way

I love this place! Amazing cider, friendly staff, and the best location right on the water! Will always support this biz!

Tasting what's on tap. The gluten-free drink of choice right in our back yard!!

I recently shifted to following (mostly) a gluten-free diet, and one of the hardest things for me has been giving up the beer. BUT North Country has really turned me on to a new drink alternative that is really delicious, crisp and refreshing, and comes in just as many varieties as a typical bar with beer on tap! My husband and I shared a flight with all varieties they had on tap that day, and they were all good and unique in their own way. There were a few that I REALLY loved and a few others that my husband preferred. We ended up buying a couple growlers to take home! And the space on-site is really nice and cool to hand out for a bit. There are tables outside with beautiful scenery around, or you can sit inside at tables in the tap room, or you can sit in the back with the machinery. The place has a very hip vibe, and the people were very friendly!

Did some tasting in the afternoon out in the patio area. Great location by the water. Dog friendly outside :)

The place to go on a summer or autumnal afternoon. The location next to the river and charm of the old brick make this place special. The outdoor area is great to bring your own food and the pup. The ciders are great and have a lot of variety. Anyone can find something here.

Outside (far end of the building. You cannot see this sign until you've driven down the path!).
    Andi B.

I love a good cidery and, let me tell you, this is a damn good cidery. None of the ciders were too sweet and they had some amazing flavors! The best was old forest-- a nice dry cider. I also liked the spicy cider (but as a gal allergic to habaneros, I had to limit my sips!). The biggest challenge is finding the place. Tip: turn into the parking lot and then follow the whole way down and around. It took me at least four tries to find it. Persistence pays off!!

Outside ordering window since tasting room is closed.
    Bucky B.

What an interesting place. Was too bad the tasting room was closed on this blustery fall day. Had a good flight, would have been better if they offered seats along the river if you ask me. Very nice staff. Enjoyed 3 of the 4. The Fire Starter hit the spot! Berry Patch was a fun cider with a different flavor I enjoyed. Original Press was ok, nothing special. Apple Press I guess would take an acquired taste for that; it wasn't for me. Dog friendly, and he even tried to order a flight, but they wouldn't accept his word on how old he is. Ended up with a few growlers so not bad all together.

Tasting flight of cider...she wants more of her favorite: Honey Badger.

While this location is located about a 15 minute walk from the main downtown area of Salem, the walk is pretty easy. We got there around 2:30 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and the location was fairly steady. They did have live music as well. We both ordered the honeydew slushy and absolutely loved it. I wish there was a way to be able to ship it to Florida as it was so amazing. I also got a flight so I could try some of the new ciders that I hadn't had before. Finally, Freedom's Edge has found its way to the city and, if you love real, authentic cider, it's a destination spot (in what's quickly become a trendy, destination neighborhood). Better apples make better cider. That's their saying. And their knowledge of cider history in Maine, and the apple varietals (bittersweet and bittersharp) that grow best here, is impressive, encouraging, and enlightening. The ciders you'll find here are full-bodied and full of interesting flavors. In the spring/summer? Icy cool apple cider slushies. In the fall/winter? Hot mulled cider with spices. All year round? So, let me state my assessment of this place from a layman's point of view, straight and simple. The concept of a place that specializes solely in making and selling hard ciders of all types is rather brilliant! However, it can be somewhat overwhelming for newcomers who aren't familiar with the tones of sweet, semi-sweet, semi-dry, and dry ciders. Frankly, I'm only familiar with the sweetness and dryness of wines. Ciders? They're a different fruit entirely! Since I was totally clueless about the world of hard ciders, my new friend Steff recommended I sample a few. In hindsight though, I shouldn't have gone with a flight of drinks. Because all ciders ain't created equal. I swear some people merely pretend to like every single vintage of cider they try. But I'll tell ya what - ciders are like wines, in a way; each with their own unique tartness, sweetness, whatever flavor that could be considered detectable by your palate. With that said, I will tell you (much to my surprise) the Sweet Mullet ended up being my favorite drink of the night. Matter of fact, I'm kicking myself for not just getting one regular sized glass of that instead of the flight. Everyone swore up and down the Mac Daddy was an all time favorite and it probably is. This one came in second for me. But at least I was able to finish it, along with the Sweet Mullet. As for Pied Pippin and the Cherry Bomb....eh, I dunno. I can't quite explain it. But something about these two ciders offended my palate in a way that made finishing them virtually impossible. Pied Pippin for sure was too sweet for me. And the Cherry Bomb simply confused me. In the end, it was a semi-sweet cider that won my heart for the day. Whodathunkit, right? The way they have their restroom area set up is pretty interesting. The sinks sit outside the actual toilet room, which is wicked smart when you stop and think about it (IYKYK). Btw, shout out to the employee who made sure to leave a note inside one of the toilet rooms instructing the patron to pull the door closed so that it could lock properly. As they say in the 'hood, you da' real MVP! Would I return? Maybe. That is....if a had a good enough reason to. I'm not exactly in the neighborhood all the time. Drives like this....I gotta have a really, REALLY good reason to take the elongated day trip. And we will leave it at that. ;) All other things considered, the staff here are amazing and knowledgeable of their craft. If you're a cider enthusiast, I could definitely recommend this place to anyone in that category. I think I'll give Freedom's Edge Cider 4 innocuous yet tasty Sweet Mullets out of 5.
