I've visited this place twice, we ordered the house chicken Döner and Berliner lamb and beef Döner as well as the lamb and beef Frye Kreuzberg und Berliner chicken Döner all with the recommended house bread. The Döner is very delicious. I have to say though, the house bread is amazing. It's always fresh, I believe they make it in house, and it's so filling. That's my next point, the food is very very filling and the meat is very generously portioned unlike some of the other reviews are saying. I was originally discouraged from trying this place due to the few reviews complaining about small amounts of meat, but I didn't experience that in the two times I've been. The staff is so very friendly and very helpful. The place itself doesn't have any seating inside, it's a grab and go establishment, so I'd suggest eating it at a nearby park or something. Overall, I'd very strongly recommend the Berliner Döner over the house Döner in either choice of meat. Personally I liked chicken. (Tip: order it with no tomatoes so it's less messy!) I've been here a few times and tried a few of their chicken sandwiches and I have finally found the sandwich I like! I like their house chicken sandwich due to the garlic sauce--I have found their fiery sauce a bit too sweet? And the more medium sauce too flavorless. The house chicken isn't spicy but I manage. But service is great. You order on iPads in the story, and they make the sandwich pretty much right away. I've never had to wait too long. This is my go-to lunch spot in SLU for a quick and easy grab and go (albeit I do always order ahead prior to going). Their chicken berliner sandwich is my favorite and full of garlicky goodness. Beware that you will definitely smell of garlic after, so plan accordingly. Prices are fair at $10-11 per sandwich and pick up is easy. It's definitely a bit of a hole in the wall, but consistently good food and highly recommend checking out. read more

I ordered a beef and lamb sandwich and a beef and lamb plate. Food was ready super quickly (under 5 min at 12:45pm on a weekday). When I came in to pick up, the two people working the counter were very friendly. The food is good especially for the price in this part of town. I think the best part was the bread: it was substantial enough not to disintegrate, but still soft and not tough at all. The meat was fine; it could be a little more flavorful but it wasn't bad. This tastes accurate to what's sold in Germany -- I liked the house Turkish bread that reminded me of the Döner in Germany (crunchy exterior and soft interior). Meat was cut pretty finely and had lots of crispy bits, which I like (but some might not like). I gave 3 stars due to the portion size and value (I was just satiated by the double meat portion). Fantastic $9.25 meal for a Berliner chicken sandwich. Highlight was the homemade bread which was crisp on the outside and not too dense on the inside. Reminded me of foccaccia bread. I cant speak to how authentic it tasted vs those available in Berlin. As a mediterranean food/donor lover however, I can say I will definitely be back! I hate to give bad reviews, but this was really disappointing. The beef/lamb combo was the toughest gristliest doener meat I've ever encountered - about half was unchewable, and had to be... discarded. Maybe the chicken is better? The yogurt sauce tasted more like mayonnaise, but that, I suppose is pretty authentic to the German-style. Not great if you have a soy-allergy, though. The "recommended" bread is heavy, dense, and tough, almost like a ciabatta. I've never had doener in Berlin - only where I lived in southern Germany, where doener were served on light fluffy pita bread - so maybe the tough bread is popular in Berlin? I hope not! They actually do offer pita as an option, but since this was my first visit, I went with the recommendation. I don't think I'll go back, but if you brave the place, be warned! It's been 6 years and I'm still loving this place. They've since streamlined the menu, offering either spicy, garlic, or parsley/dill sauce options. I bounce between the garlic and parsley/dill depending on my mood, but ALWAYS get a side of hot sauce - it's so great. I've firmly decided the wheat wrap is the way to go, but the salads here are also great. In preparing for my trip to Germany, I have been trying out numerous German eateries to get acclimated with the cuisine served there. Fortunately since I work in South Lake Union, I have been able to try a couple which are located in this very neighborhood. One of those eateries is The Berliner Döner Kebab which specializes in döner kebab which is basically rotisserie meats rotated vertically instead of horizontally like it often is for rotisserie chicken and barbecue. Meats are then served typically as a sandwich. While döner is Turkish, it is a popular fast food item in Germany. There are 4 varieties of sandwiches here served with your choice of chicken, lamb & beef or tofu & feta. You can also choose between different bread options. Aside from sandwiches, they also offer salads. While the sandwich prices here are higher than a sandwich at the nearby Jimmy John's, the size of the sandwiches here are considerably larger. If you are in the area from 3-6 on weekdays, they have a happy hour special in which you can get a döner for only $4.99. I have tried two of the sandwiches thus far, the Lamb & Beef Fiery Kreuzberg ($8.65) and the Chicken Berliner ($7.50). The Fiery Kreuzberg is supposed to be a sandwich with heat, but I didn't find it too terribly hot fortunately. The peppers inside the sandwich are just a little spicy. Taste of the lamb and beef was decent, but I liked the Chicken Berliner more. The Berliner has pieces of rotisserie chicken in it with a mix of cucumber, lettuce, red cabbage and tomato with the X factor being the garlic sauce. Take note that the sauce is super garlicky, so be sure to have some gum or mints on hand when you finish your meal. It was great to try döner before heading to Germany for my trip. Looking forward to comparison testing to see if the döners in Munich taste the same as the ones found here. read more
