It has been a million years (exaggerate much? Yes, yes I do) since I've been to Athina but I'm so pleased I returned. Searching for some pre-Storm grub, we decided to return to Athina. So, so glad we did. The food is actually better than I remember, reasonably priced and quite delicious. I'm a falafel snob and Athina has some special magic sprinkled into these nuggets of love. Each falafel was perfectly fried, had tremendous flavor (not always the case, bland falafel is the bane of my eating existence) and was perfectly proportioned on my sandwich. I added some Greek salad for a few bucks, which was tasty except for the dressing bath. Next time I ask for it on the side, to take it to 4.5 stars. Other restaurants add chicken. Not here. Gyro had very little meat and was served warm not hot. Food taste was also mediocre. I thought a gyro and staple soup would be a good bet. The restaurant has twelve tables. Only one table was seated at 7pm. That should have been a warning sign on a Saturday night. I think there are better options. I'd pass on this restaurant. read more

I'm a huge Greek food lover and was excited to try one of the few Greek places I hadn't yet sampled in Seattle. After one lunch here, though, I'm not sure if I'll return. I ordered the Greek salad with gyro meat. If you're hungry, this portion size is no joke--I was totally full. But the quality is what I found lacking. I make Greek salad at home almost every day, and one thing I never thought I would find in a Greek salad was sweetness. Are they sugaring the sauces here? Weird. Also, there was no tzatziki. I'm sure if I'd asked for it, they'd have brought me some, but usually every gyro salad I've had came with tzatziki. Last but not least, the gyro meat was ample but overcooked. What's not to like about generous portions at reasonable prices? So far, we've tried the following: - Greek Salad with Gyro - This salad is easily shareable with its large serving. The dish comes with a side of pita bread, and I added gyro for a little protein . :) I loved how light, and yet filling it was and enjoyed the vinaigrette dressing immensely. - Gyro Pita - Your traditional gyro pita sandwich, the dish comes with a side of fries, which you can upgrade to Greek fries if desired. - Gyro Dinner - It's essentially a "deconstructed" gyro (haha!) - a great option if you aren't really looking to use your hands :) - Greek Fries - How do these fries stay so crispy?! As people say, it's "betta with feta". ;) Another great dish to share! Every time we visit Athina, we leave with happy stomachs and wallets. The sizes make each dish easily shared - a side of Greek fries and two Gyro Pitas would be more than enough for my boyfriend and I. I want to like this place, I really do. It is convenient for me to walk to from work. They used to be better. While I don't think it's great to leave a negative review for a restaurant right now during this time, I'm hoping they will change their ways. The staff is always nice and helpful. I was very disappointed last week. I ordered a Greek salad with gyro to go. It's pretty large, and plenty of meat. A bit overdressed for my liking, and the meat a bit greasier than usual. I ate half of it, and then was over it. Unfortunately, I was very uncomfortable for the next 12 hours or so. Something was not right and my stomach was in slight pain. Greek salad is worth ordering but very basic yet flavorful. As a french fry connoisseur the greek fries perfect and laced in feta. Makes me want to yell OPA! To the server who waited on us.... I am sorry you hate your job, your life, the restaurant, and being social. It makes your customers uneasy that you do not smile, you are not friendly, and that you serve food that tastes like it was from 9:00 AM (or earlier) when it was 6:00 PM that I ate.... I want to like this place... I kind of do but kind of don't. It's a cute Greek place that is known for their lamb burgers. I personally think their lamb burgers are good, but not the best thing ever. It is tasty and juicy though for less than 8 bucks. I ordered their gyro dinner plate ($10.99) which comes with a lot (meat, rice, veggies, tzatziki sauce)... however, it did taste old. Nothing tasted fresh about the dish at all. Food had tons of flavor, but still tasted close to a rubbery meat texture. It was not fresh at all. The rice had flavor and I the pita tasted like a pita. The hummus was a dollar extra, and unfortunately, I have had better. I didn't even eat it after ordering it. The bathroom--I heard was so unique and almost nostalgic-like.... but to be honest, it's just a bright-blue painted bathroom that tries to take you back somewhere....but it's just a blue room with a toilet. Lol... sorry, I don't really find it special. Overall, the service was just okay. A very unenthusiastic and angry looking server made the experience a bit lacking in ambiance of any particular sort. Stopped here for a late night dinner because it was one of the only places open and it was right near the hotel I was staying at. Boy, am I glad I did! I absolutely love Greek food, and did not have too high of expectations for just a hole-in-the-wall place like this. The service was not too bad. I did have to wait for what felt like a very long time for the food, and the place was pretty much empty. However, that could have been because they were about to close/ they were understaffed/etc. I got a Falafel Platter, asked for no cheese. They put cheese on my salad, and then gave me a separate salad? It was not a big issue though. The food was very very good. Best part? Got the whole freaking plate for just $5! It came with a Greek salad, hummus, rice, falafel, hummus, and pita bread. A TON of food for that price. Falafel can be hit or miss for me, but that is some dang good falafel. My boyfriend, who does not really eat Greek food, got a Gyros pita and enjoyed it too. I also noticed the plate did not have the traditional roast potatoes either. Instead, it had this weird bowl of peas and carrot soup. It tasted like it was out of a can and something I have never been served in a Greek restaurant before!!! I asked the waitress about the missing roast potatoes - and apparently, they don't make those either. To be honest, the lamb was seasoned and cooked okay - but nothing to write home about. The only item that was traditionally Greek was the two glasses of Retsina wine I drank to lessen my disappointment. I don't understand some of these comments overusing the words "Awesome" and "Amazing" to describe the food here - because it's absolutely NOT! Either these commenters have never had REAL Greek food before or their taste buds are too accustomed to eating fast food? It does not look like this restaurant is Greek operated either. However, the restaurant itself is clean and painted in the traditional blue and white colors and there's also Greek music playing in the background - all of which you will find in a traditional Greek restaurant. This is one of a handful of the best Greek places in town. Yes, they do serve gyros, but they serve a lot of real food too, and they do it in a real sit-down restaurant setting. It's a bit of a diner, with the menu up on a big greaseboard near the counter, and the menus being laminated two-sided affairs. The seating is mostly banquette with facing chairs. But that doesn't detract from the fact that this is a real sit-down place, especially since you're paying very reasonable prices on Queen Anne. Most importantly, the food and the service are both pretty great here. Our server was friendly and fast, never missing a step despite getting a steady runup of tables continually right after we sat down. The food was great. My buddy had a gyro (he often goes for the familiar), and I had the lamb souvlaki meal (I often go for the familiar, too, it just often involves grilled lamb when I can get it). The lamb was tender and flavorful with just enough little streaks of charring on the outside. There was some tasty tzatziki with it, along with some good saffron rice and some peas and carrots and pita points. Nothing revolutionary, but a good value for $12--great value for that price in this neighborhood IMO. They have a couple decent beers, a couple Greek wines, and fountain pop. The gyro was really tasty, and the lemon-rice soup I had beforehand was delicious. All in all this is a place I will hit again and again, especially with a good theater being right across the street. First off, there are no better gyros in this city. Some come close, but these are the best. Same goes for the hummus. A cold Mythos and a gyro (or the yummy gyro salad) has become one of my on-the-way-home-from-work meals of choice of late and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I think I've tried every pita by now and each one seems better than the last, with the Lamb Souvlaki rising to the very top of my favorites list. Wow, they give you mighty plump lamb kebobs at a good price. You know, I really may have to succumb and get a IPhone with GPS. We found Athina based on Yelp's Iphone app, which gave us the locations of nearby restaurants as we were walking. It also updated the results factoring in where we were right at that moment - and it did this in just a couple clicks! This past Sunday was Liz's and my first visit to a very smoky Hempfest at Myrtle Edwards Park. I had no idea how huge this event was, or how much law enforcement would totally look the other way. We both started with a side Greek salad. It came sprinkled with Feta cheese and a nice vinagerette dressing. Our souvlaki plates arrived with yellow rice, a pea and carrot dish, pita bread, tzatziki dressing and two lamb kebobs. The peas and carrots came in a nice sauce. I also liked the tzatziki.
