Athina Grill is very reasonable, compared to other Greek restaurants. The grilled lamb souvlaki is so delicious! When I'm in the lower Queen Anne area, I try to come here for dinner. It's a great place if you have a party of 6 or less since it's a small restaurant. But during the nice days you can sit outside. So it's a nice quaint place to bring a date and if you are on a budget. They play lively Greek music in the background. The walls and restrooms are very colorful, as if you are transported to Greece. It seems to be family owned and managed. But it's not too noisy and I don't ever have to wait for a table. I don't like going to popular restaurants where you have to wait more than 10 minutes and it's noisy. read more

Let me start out by saying one thing: fries. The biggest part of this review is going to be about the fries. They are seriously delicious! I probably could have orders just fries and still given it a four star review. Okay now back to everything else, the restaurant was very clean and the staff was attentive and friendly! What caught my eye was "Lamb Burger" who ever thunk this up was a GENIUS! I know that this was my fate to try this... I enjoy this place a lot! They have cute blue and white decor, and always have good food. I usually get chicken souvlaki dinner and hummus platter but went with lamb/beef gyro dinner this time. Hummus platter comes with two pita and three choices of spreads. I had hummus, garlic hummus and eggplant spread. Their hummus is fresh and not too salty and I love it the most. Garlic hummus can be a little salty, but it does give nice flavor. As far as beef gyro goes, the meats were bit too salty for my taste, but sides(rice with tamato sauce, beens,salad) are as good as they were in chicken souvlaki. We stumbled across this place while wandering around the foot of Queen Anne. We started with a sampler of three of the spreads with warmed pita. We tried the Terokafteri (spicy cheese), Melitzanosalata (eggplant), and Hummus (chickpea) spreads. My favorite of the three we tried was the spicy cheese spread, something new I had not tried elsewhere; the other two were worthy rivals, however. For the entree we had a dinner plate with the Lamb Souvlaki. This came with two skewers of grilled lamb, a side of stewed vegetable (peas and carrots), tzatziki, warm pita, and rice. The lamb was excellent, full of flavor and succulent. The tzatziki was cool and garlicky. The rice was a nice addition. The side of vegetables I could have done without, a little bland for my taste; I would prefer a side salad perhaps. The atmosphere is pretty quiet, but it was slow our first time here, so I don't know if that's usual. We sat ourselves, but our waitress greeted us immediately and brought out menus. Probably the most reliable Mediterranean meal day to day in the Queen Anne area. Personally, I love the souvlaki and the tzatziki sauce is delightful. Went here for dinner. I think the air conditioning may have been broke/unused as the door was open and there were a couple fans, but it was a nice day so we were comfortable. The decor inside is nice, with a ceramic tile rooftop and vines hanging down. Makes you feel like you're dining outside in Europe. Love this place. Their number is literally programmed into my phone so I can easily call takeout orders. I have been going here for years, and have always found it to be super delicious and consistent quality with the food. This is my work lunch spot, and also great for ordering out when you need a meal at home. I've also used them for catering for family or group events and it has worked out great. Nice little place that makes you feel like you're in Greece. I would say the highlight of this place are it's dips. We haven't found another Mediterranean place that has dips that are as good. For starters we got the three dip sampler. For mains we got a vegetarian falafel and a chicken gyro. Both of these were ok (I'd rate 3*). Disclaimer: I'm from out of town, so I may misinterpret some of the foods. I ordered the dolmades (not pictured) and a combination chicken/gyro pita sandwich with fries. I've gotta say, I wasn't impressed with the dolmades, but I recognize that they are often prepared differently based on the region/culture they are trying to emulate - for that reason I'll simply say they were too soggy for my liking and leave it at that. The pita sandwich on the other hand was simply wonderful. The chicken was perfectly moist and flavorful while the gyro provided an energetic crunch and spice. I'm not sure why the combo isn't on the menu, but it was perfect. The Greek fries were about par for what I expected. I'd give that plate a solid 8/10. This is a good spot for a simple gyro and fries fix. I can't speak about the rest of the menu, but the gyro is always very flavorful with the right balance of sauce and toppings to go along with the beef/lamb mix that they use for the meat. Honestly, these are some of my favorite fries around. They always cook them up nice and crispy and they taste great with the gyro. I've also tried their salad a few times. It isn't too heavily dressed, but I always wish it came with a few more of those kalamata olives. Another good choice with the gyro, and not quite as heavy. The space is fine, nothing too special. Lots of tables, a few booths. The folks that run it are always pleasant when you come in. At lunch you just order at the counter and grab your own glass of water. Not sure if it is full table service at dinner, or not. The fries were good but the gyro may have been the worst I've ever had. Maybe it was an off day..... the chicken cubes were so over cooked it didn't seem like food. There were a few onion strings, 3 tomato slices, and about a cup of sauce in the gyro. I ended up squeezing a huge amount of sauce out of the gyro but still couldn't eat it. I love Greek food and Athina Grill was no exception! My chicken souvlaki gyro was not only tasty, but at a mere $6, quite affordable. The chicken was tender and delicious, but the shining star of the dish was the amazing tzaziki sauce. I loved the aroma of the dill they put in it! I also ordered the avgolemono soup, which is basically a Greek version of chicken soup with lemon. It was terrific and would be perfect when you are sick in bed. First off - I do not have a ton of experience with great greek restaurants. I am spending the week in Seattle, so I have been leaning on Yelp to help me find some solid lunch and dinner treats. I gave this a shot today, and was more than impressed. I had the Chicken pita, with the added feta cheese(extra charge). The chicken was all white meat, and seemed to be fresh off the skewers in the back. The pita was pretty flavorful, but I do have to say that there was definitely too much tzatziki sauce for my tastes. To be fair though, I do not like yogurt much, and since it is a yogurt base take that with a grain if salt. Now the fries - These fries were quite possibly some of the best I have had. They were thin, crispy, and still light and satisfying. The staff was very friendly, and we discussed the french fries for a bit before I left. If I'm in the LQA and need some excellent Greek food, I now know where to go. I came here for lunch on a Sunday with a couple friends after we'd spent a few hours at the Seattle Center. We were starving and Athina really hit the spot. Their food is delicious and the portion sizes are generous. The restaurant is clean and has a friendly, casual atmosphere. I ordered a gyro sandwich with feta and by the time I had finished it I was stuffed to the gills. It was overflowing with strips of succulent meat, slices of tomato, crumbled feta and their delicious tzatziki sauce. The pita was fresh and warm. My lady friends split a gyro salad, which was a huge plate of chopped romaine with cucumbers, a light vinaigrette and topped with a giant mound of gyro meat. We also got a yummy side of beets, hummus, walnut spread and tzatziki with pita to share. I've only been to the Athina Grill once, so this is a preliminary review (I prefer to review after about 3 visits). On this visit the food was really good, but not amazing. My falafel was tasty and filing, but a little "one-note", I guess I've gotten used to the amazing falafels Cafe Vios and it's hard to compare. The fries are just a-ok. My companions had larger meals than I did, the gyro meat was good (but pretty darn greasy, I can't imagine eating a whole sandwich of this), and the platter meals looked good (he cleaned his plate, so must have been!). Athina Grill has entered the battle to become my favorite Gyro place. The other two contenders are Aladdin Gyrocery on the Ave and Gyro World in the QFC on the north end of Broadway. What sets Athina Grill apart is when you order a meat gyro, you are gonna get a shit ton of meat. I know shit ton isn't the most delicious of phrasings, but that's exactly what you're going to get. In my Gyro pita, I had bit of lettuce, one slice of tomato and a frothing mountain of cut lamb/beef with Tzatziki sauce all over it. It was great for a blood thirsty carnivore like myself, but even I found myself wanting a little bit more salad mixed in towards the end of it. The great thing about this is for $6.99 you get a Gyro and a ton of fries. They also give you a mountain of Tzatziki Sauce for FREE (the gyro sauce) which tastes awesome with the fries. That monster size helping of the sauce alone makes this place on of the best Gyro places around. Coupled with the comparably cheap prices, how can you go wrong? The answer is, you cant! The girlfriend got a Eggplant pita which tasted completely different from my gyro. It had Eggplant and some olive oil sauce base which tasted great, even though I'm usually adverse to eggplant. They have a large collection of salads as well that looked really good based on what I read off the menu, but since I was in the carnivorous mood, I didnt not get a chance at it. Next time though, for sure. The girl at the counter was more than friendly today. She was juggling rewriting the menus from lunch to dinner, while getting us water and answsering our various questions about Greek food. Service was great overall. The one thing that bothered me about the place was the decor. I read somewhere a long time ago that yellow and green are the colors that mostly responsible for getting your hunger juices flowing. Places like Subway, Mcdonalds to an extent, and most other restaurants are evidence of this. The yellow wood, or the earthy green tones in most restaurnats. However, Athina Grill had that blue color which is mostly responsible for NOT making you hungry. It was odd, the girlfriend and I were standing at the front of the door, obviously hungry, but a bit confused about whether or not we should actually try this place out. My boyfriend and I recently booked a trip to Greece and in order to get into the spirit we decided to come over and try one of Seattle's many Greek restaurants. We wandered in to Athina Grill for lunch on a Saturday, around noon-ish. They weren't too busy so we placed our order at the counter and our food came out really quickly. My boyfriend ordered the gyro and thought it was pretty good. I ordered the veggie hummus pita, which was pretty much all hummus, with a few cucumbers mixed in. It would have been nice if it had more veggies...lesson learned, next time order something with meat! Overall we had a decent lunch, but I don't think I can rate any higher than three stars until I've tried some more of their menu. read more
