I reside in the BelAir area of MD and oh, there's a Dicks Sporting Goods too...((nope)). My Bike Doctor didn't have the bike I was interested in although the FREDERICK store had one and I was encouraged to drive out there. As expected, the store is big and full of top notch bikes. The bike J purchased wasn't on sale and I paid full margin. I was taken back after dropping over $1000 on a bike that they couldn't kick in a $19 bottle cage for free. I'm not sure my location would have but this was the norm in past decades when the market was competitive. Thanks internet and thanks Bike Doctor.

I brought it back twice over the next two weeks, and they couldn't figure out what happened. Eventually they just gave up and said it's fine (it clearly wasn't.). A few months later I took it to Race Pace (right around the corner), to see if they could figure it out. They took one look at it and told me the shifter didn't match the cassette. Whites had put a 9 speed shifter on my 8 speed bike. Race Pace fixed it in two days, and it immediately worked perfectly, it was like a new bike. I then went back to Whites to explain what had happened. They said putting a 9 speed shifter on an 8 speed bike is fine (it isn't, Google it). They then apologized and said they would make amends, and call me back. That was two months ago, still haven't heard from them. The staff seems friendly, though they didn't follow through with calling me back. I think the lack of knowledge regarding something so basic shows a lack of general competence and motivation to be an effective mechanic. Don't blow the money and learn the hard way, learn from my lesson and just go to Race Pace.

We wanted bikes suitable for gravel and dirt as well as paved trails. Eirik was a wealth of knowledge, answering all of our questions and providing insight into which features would be most helpful for us. He followed up our visit with a detailed email summarizing the information he had shared with us. We scheduled another meeting, where he provided specific bike models that he felt would be a good fit for us. We couldn't be happier with the cruiser style and features of the e-bikes we ultimately ordered. We picked them up the assembled bikes today. Eirik checked the fit and did final adjustments, and then we took them for a test ride. The entire experience was amazing. We were extremely impressed with the level of knowledge and to the priority placed on customer service. We highly recommend Bridgeway Bikes.

On an impulse I gave Bruce at Capital Paddlesports a call to see if they had any in stock. He confirmed that they did and said that if I ever wanted to try one out for free, he hosts periodic demo days in DC. I had just been to my friend's house to try his, so I wasn't interested in the demo but was still on the fence. Bruce took the time to answer all of my questions without pushing me to purchase. He even said that if I wanted I could come over to his shop and try one out to see what I thought. I told him I would think about it and asked him to send me a quote. Bruce sent the quote through quickly via email, and after a quick conversation with my wife I decided to drive out to Frederick and buy! When I showed up Bruce greeted me and showed me the differences between the different one wheel options and answered a bunch of questions I had about using and maintaining one. In the end, he spent a solid hour answering questions and giving me advice. This was legitimately one of the best retail experiences I have had. I don't mean to gush, but it is rare to meet someone selling you something who is more focused on making sure you are getting what you want than trying to line their own pockets. This was a sale won through zero pressure and just a lot of genuine helpful service. Always, if you are in the market for a onewhee, give him a call. He isn't in the shop 24/7 so make sure you call before you go down there. I would highly recommend buying form him instead of direct from one wheel. You will get it much faster, but you will also get a lot of useful information in the process.
