We were a party of 6 at dinner and they were pretty busy, but they got us seated right away. However, the table was back against the wall, where you could barely push out the chairs. The floor was unswept and had left over fries under the chairs, and the ambiance was so dark that you could barely read the menu. The food was alright. Portion sizes are large, but they made some odd choices. The salmon burger is fried, but not noted. The pasta in the burratini bucatini is quite overcooked. The classic burger was decent. Service - it took them forever to bring the bill and then collect the card. Most of the party had left to get air because it was so claustrophobic. Stopped here on our road trip to Stowe. The place was packed when we arrived but to my surprise we were seated within 5 min. We started with the smoked wings. They were very good, not too spicy and had a very gentle smoked flavor. I had a burger and my husband had the buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese. My burger was good, needed more seasoning but overall good. The buffalo chicken Mac and cheese was by far the best thing we had. Was my first night at Stowe and we came to this place and it did not disappoint! We had the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese and it was absolutely amazing! Best item of the night for sure. We also had the wings (dry rub) and some weren't a big fan of it since they said it tasted a bit dry but I was fine with it. The pizza was good too as it was very thin and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. My main was the classic burger with bacon and it was 10/10 as well. Partner & I stumbled upon The Bench (thank you, Yelp) during an impromptu 1-night stay in nearby Waterbury to check out some of the local breweries. What a find! Although busy, we were seated immediately because we were okay with sitting at the hightop area. Seems people don't want to sit there, but we considered it prime seating. This allowed us watch the gentleman manning the brick pizza oven practice his pizza magic (highly recommend the pepperoni with hot honey...partner devoured it), & we could see the kitchen team working like a well-oiled machine. And the food runner was a pro, busting his tail. The food coming out of that kitchen made us so hungry that we forgot to take photos. The open kitchen was clean & organized. We had the poutine with pulled pork over hand cut duck fat fries (hello! meal in itself & pork delightfully tender & juicy), the previously mentioned fired pizza, & I had their meatloaf dinner (which I never order, but sounded too delicious to pass up). Turns out meatloaf is their most popular dish, & rightfully so! Large portions. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was nice, casual & comfortable. This restaurant had such a cute vibe. We got here a little before they opened on Sunday, and there was already a line. At that point we had high expectations. The poutine fries were really good. The pulled pork addition is what I loved about it. I wish the cheese curds were melted a tad bit more, but other than that it was good. The truffle oil and mushroom pizza was good as well. I think I would have liked a little more of the truffle oil on it, but it wasn't bad at all. It was still very good. The only additional item we got was the dry rubbed wings and those were not the best. I have definitely had better wings, and I could have done without them. Lots to say about The Bench! We came for a girls weekend in Stowe with 6 people and I knew we wanted to come here on Saturday night. We arrived at around 6:45pm (after learning they don't take reservations or have a virtual waitlist) and the hostess told us it would be 2 hours or more. We tried to ask how many parties were ahead of us and were told rudely "you've only been waiting for 7 minutes" but eventually learned there were 12 parties ahead of us. We panicked and looked at other places, but we figured it'd be busy elsewhere and maybe they overestimated. We walked across the street to the Field Guide hotel to the bar there -- so cute, I wrote a review for them too. We ordered drinks and a charcuterie board there and were not there for more than 5 minutes before we got a text that our table was ready. We had to pay and cancel our boards and race through our drinks. And they were so nice about it but clearly the people at The Bench are either power tripping or ego tripping or whatever, but it was no more than 20 minutes instead of 2+ hours. Once we sat down though, the food and the service were wonderful. Our waitress was attentive and positive. The food was delicious. We got the poutine and the burrata board and both were excellent. The gravy on the poutine in particular was perfect. We all liked our drinks and our entrees -- honestly the maple chili lime sauce on the chicken tenders was the least fancy thing we got but so so good.
