I read the Yelp reviews before I went. I was cautious. The female staff greeted the three of us immediately. She showed the shopping trays and buckets. I asked about tila beads; she walked me to the section. Their prices were very fair. I found some similar cabachons to stones I had purchased at rock store in Virginia City two days earlier. The Bead Gallery items were 40-60% cheaper! The bead selection & variety is very impressive. Amazing selection of findings as well. The owner was there and chatted us up. They also have classes there Sunday-Wednesday. Solid shop that I will return to in the future. read more

My boyfriend and I came here to buy beads. Well mostly it was my boyfriend who needed the beads for his own jewelry making. I was impressed on how meticulously everything in the store was organized. It was a nice welcome hello from the woman in the store. She certainly has skills. She teaches jewelry making classes and does most of the repairs on jewelry that is brought in to fix. I think it's wonderful they offer repairs. I was impressed to see her work. Some of it, is available for sale, if it's tagged. My boyfriend said the quality and value were great. This is a cool bread store. They offer all kinds of options for beads and tools for creative minds. We came in looking for necklaces. It was reccomended to look here by the stone store a couple doors down, in the same parking lot.   This place does sell some necklaces but it wasn't what we were looking for. I thought it was really cool that they offer classes to learn beading and making jewelry.  I'm interested to come and attend a class here.  I would reccomend checking this place out. My mother-in-law had told me about a project she was considering to make a simple necklace with an initial and a couple of birthstone colored gems since she was having a hard time finding something ready-to-buy. I am not a "beader" nor would I consider myself a very "crafty" person, so I was hoping that The Bead Gallery would help guide my mother-in-law in her project. I drove her to the shop and figured I would look at all of the pretty beads. After only a minute in the shop a woman asked if I was looking for anything, so I explained that we were looking for a silver letter bead to make an initial necklace. The letters are all behind the counter so she would have to assist which was fine. The MIL and I explained that we wanted a silver S. The women was resistant to letting us actually see the letters and finally allowed it after I insisted. At first she showed us a letter in a cube shaped bead-like what you would use for friendship bracelets. My MIL explained she was hoping for something metal and showed the counterwoman a similar necklace that she was wearing with her own initial. The woman was very short and said that we asked for a bead not a monogram and that the letter on the chain is monogram. Then, she just stared at us. It felt like we were a huge annoyance to this woman's day, and her only option was to be difficult and passive aggressive. My MIL did end up buying a little silver "S" charm for her project... sorry, a silver "S" monogram. However, we left the store wondering why the woman working had such an attitude problem. Neither of us will be returning for future bead needs. read more

Every single time I've shopped there, I feel welcomed and helped. Prices are very reasonable, and if a bead tube is not totally full, they will fill it. If a similar item is on sale, it will be pointed out. It is so nice to feel more like a friend than a money-producing client. We went in thinkin it was going to be a cute little bead shop but we were met with this really mean woman. When we asked her how it worked she pointed to a sign and said "it says it all right there but anyways..." and told us how it worked. When we were ready to check out she said "But you didn't touch all of the other beads?" as a jab at us because we were touching beads. Like what else are we supposed to do in a bead shop? They're small and we want to see if they match what we want to use them for. We literally couldn't see the price tag unless we picked it up so I don't really see why she needed to say that comment. What an unfortunate visit I had at this store. Greeting was so friendly and I was off to a good start. I was excited to get some wood beads. Now I understand that the shop clerk probably recites the same set of instructions to each visitor. I get that it may be frustrating to not have your instructions followed. I really do. With that understanding, it still feels awful to be spoken to with a passive aggressive, insulting manner. She should understand that some people have other things on their mind, so shopping instructions may not stick the first time. I would go back if there was a different clerk. For now, Amazon or a different bead store will get my business. Sad :( read more

Initially when we walked in the service was good, my mom was looking at beads while I followed my toddler around looking at the strings of beads. My son was touching the strings as they make noise when you touch them, but he was not grabbing them, moving them, knocking them down or anything, simply touching them. Then the employee told me to make him stop, I told her he was being very gentle and I was watching him, but she continued to ridicule and tell us to stop. She became rude and my mom said we won't be shopping here then if you cant speak kindly to us and so we left as she snarked at us to have a great day. 100% not a kid friendly lady, or store, even when the kids are doing absolutely nothing wrong. The disrespect and intolerance was ridiculous from the employee. We won't be returning, so much for trying to shop locally. read more

Went here for my sons birthday to choose pieces to make a Mala. Kumi was so kind and helpful! We collected what we needed and realized when we got home we had missed purchasing a piece that fell of to the side. We went back to purchase it and Kumi had purchased it and had it waiting for us, with happy birthday written on the bag. Not only was this above and beyond customer service, it was incredibly kind. There are two bead shops in Reno. I looked up both on Yelp and found that the one in Midtown had better reviews in regards to customer service, so I chose to go there and forgo The Bead Gallery. It was not a great experience . The two women barely looked up at me, had short responses, and frankly they just seemed annoyed I was trying to buy beads. I decided to try The Bead Gallery anyway, despite some not so great reviews and was pleasantly surprised. Karyn, specifically, is one of the kindest most helpful people I have ever met. She takes time to walk around the store and help with ideas for projects. She is extremely patient when I ask about techniques and most of all, their classes are fantastic for hands on experience. I highly recommend visiting The Bead Shop! And for those who may not have had the best experience, I say give it another go before saying bye forever! read more

I wish I had the option to give a negative. I went into this store on December 20th. So I have waited and thought about posting this review, and it needs to be said. Every one is right they do have a vast bead section Literally you walk in and you feel like you might be able to complete that project! But the beads are not the face of the store, the employees are. I have never experienced the rudeness which I received walking into this shop. I was not greeted by the elderly female sales associate, I was bombarded. Let me tell you this right now, lady, it is not my job to clean up any mess I make (I didn't even get a chance to look she just assumed I would mess up her beads) "....they will fall on the floor and not I, but all three of us, will be cleaning it all up." No, that is NOT how you approach a potential customer. Maybe try something Like, " Hello, welcome to Bead Gallery! Is this your first time shopping with us? [WAIT FOR CUSTOMER RESPONSE] (If they never have been there then say...) Well welcome here and we hope you are able to find what you need. Let me just go over how our beads are displayed because I know they are not displayed like Michael's or other bead locations! " Its really not that hard to be a pleasant human being. Some of us have severe social anxiety and just the mere fact of going into a store is a feat on its own. Be respectful. I wasn't disrespectful towards any employees or the shop. I was terrified to even touch a string of beads. I panicked and walked out. I cried in the car because of my experience. Thankfully I was able to find a friendlier bead store who respected me when I walked in. They helped me without judgement. Hopefully the other employees are better than her. Surprisingly large, clean and spacious with a very nice set up for those who want to bring in their own things and bead with others who share the same interest. I'm assuming that's where they hold classes too. As far as inventory, I didn't seen anything unusual that I haven't seen in other smaller bead shops. I popped in specifically because I like to make my own pendants to change up my necklaces. I left with nothing - just couldn't find anything that really struck my fancy or was so unique that I had to have it. My wife has gone into the Bead Gallery on a number of occasions to purchase materials. This last week, she went in and asked if they carried a certain type of clasp. The woman working the front desk pointed at a huge wall and said, "they are somewhere over there on that wall." After searching for about 15 minutes with no luck finding the clasp (the woman never offered to help her find it) we decided to leave and try somewhere else. We ended up going to Hobby Lobby and found the clasp she needed and the people there bent over backwards to assist us! All their prices were much better also! People complain about the big box stores taking business away from the small stores. If the small stores want to compete with the big box stores they better learn customer service!! We won't be returning to the Bead Gallery ever again. read more

I only gave it a 3 star, because it does have a LOT of findings for jewelry making, but when I went in for a very specific item, their inventory and marking system was a joke! I was specifically looking for Swarovski flat back crystals in Capri Blue. Their LIMITED selection of flat backs were not only NOT marked with the COLOR, but no SIZE on them either! I want to support small business, but when I can walk in to Michaels and everything is sized and marked with it's specific color, then I guess they win! Terrible disappointment. read more

The prices are worth the excellent quality and HUGE variety of gemstones, beads, chains, and ALL the supplies you could possibly need for any jewelry making project! They even have displays and gift boxes! The instructors/employees are extremely gifted artists and their classes have literally changed people's lives! They teach classes on the most beautiful beaded necklaces and bracelets of all different styles and skill sets! If you're looking for bunches of beads, this is the place. Walls and bins filled with beads of every color, shape, and size are available here as well as some little charms, stones, claps and more. There is also a wall of seed beads in tubes that rivals any I've seen before. My sister and I went in with the intention of buying beads and "sister" charms to make matching bracelets like the ones we had just seen in a different shop. We are both crafty girls and thought it would be cheaper to make them than to buy them. I was a little shocked to find that it would actually have been more expensive if we bought the beads and charms here though. Unlike other bead stores I've been to in the past, most of the beads here are sold in strands. This means that buying a 5-10 pack of beads (which I prefer) is not an option. They definitely have a lot of options, but I think their store is geared more toward serious bead workers, not the casual crafter like my sister and I. I wish they offered 1/2 strands... Anyway, the staff was friendly and helpful right away when we walked in. They made sure we knew that they offer classes that we were welcome to attend, and the store was well organized. read more

Great selection! Big store! Friendly service, and not so overly attentive that you can't just relax and browse. I think that the shopper can get as much help as they need, and not be bothered with more than they need. Clearly a deep level of expertise in the employees. I do agree with another Yelper's comment about lack of size details on the displays. Today I was just shopping for colors, but if I were trying to fulfill the beads for a specific project, I'd need help locating the right sizes of seed beads. I'll be back! read more
