Bottom line: no one showed up to teach my scheduled workshop or has called me to apologize (it has now been a week). So I can't really give any stars for that. I got a Groupon and the reviews were mixed. It seems like if you are lucky enough to get the right workshop/teacher/materials, it's great! But that doesn't always happen. So I sorta knew I was taking my chances but I do not think it should be that way! I booked online and the email says- You're all set! But I called a couple hours ahead of time to confirm. No one called me back so I had my suspicions as I headed over that maybe the class would be a bust. There's a sign on the door to knock and/or call...i did both, to no avail. Left another message. I waited for like 15 minutes (I really wanted to make the mosaic!!) and then left. A week later, I am still left wondering. Groupon refunded me so that part worked out but I would have been extra mad if I were trying to get my money back from this business that ghosted me. So you're definitely taking your chances if you do! Sad. I wanted the lucky great workshop experience. read more

My partner & I had a Groupon and set an appointment up for September 23rd at 1:00pm. We arrived at 12:45 and were greeted by a "Be back at 2:00" sign on the door. I called several times, no answer. We held onto hope and waited 25 minutes for an employee to show up. Eventually, someone did -- but the reason? Her boss asked her to pick something up. So this lady completely forgot about our appointment and then proceeded to laugh about the irony of her boss reminding her to check online for any appointments prior to this happening. She seemed indifferent overall. The process of making a mosaic is really fun and tedious. That part was great! Only do the 8x8 mosaic workshop if you're okay with figuring it out yourself; the employee there did not guide us at all, despite knowing it was our first time. Once we were finished, she told us that they would need to fill in the gaps with grout and that we would receive a call sometime throughout the week if we were unable to pick up the finished pieces the immediate following day. A week goes by and no calls were received. Shocker, really. Today (October 1st) at around 2:30pm, we called to ask if we could pick up our finished pieces. The same employee from last week answered the phone and told us, "yes," we could, they just "close at 3." We told her it'll only take 15 minutes to get there, which she sounded okay with. We arrive at 2:45pm and catch the lady running back inside, as though she was just in the process of leaving. Which we confirmed to be the case, as she handed our pieces off to us and talked about how she was "leaving early" and we "got here at the just the right time." At this point, I am dumbfounded with how awful this employee is. She hears that a customer is coming to pick up their piece before closing and her instant thought is to leave early/before the customer arrives? As for the cherry on top, the grout looks terrible. There's so many holes. I felt like my contribution to the piece (the glass placement) was done well, but if I had known the employees were going to be careless about it.. I would have done it myself. I am pretty unhappy with the way it turned out and it's not because of my own doing. This place has potential to be great. I feel bad leaving a review like this, but something has to be said. Please do not go here if you're looking for a good glass art experience -- I promise you, this is not it. read more

We made the poppy mosaic offer from Groupon. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon. The pretty much set ya up and off you went placing your chips of tiles. The only improvement I saw was that I wish it were clearer you have to leave the piece there to be grouted for a few days. We are from Vegas so they gave us verbal direction on how to grout ourselves. Overall it was a fun time and the lady helping was very nice. read more

I don't have any details on price or planning as I was invited here for a work team building event, but man we had a blast! Our event was scheduled for 3 hours and we took over the entire studio with our group of 15. Two long tables filled with broken glass of all colors, glue, and heavy cardboards. In the room next door, a local caterer had prepared for us a nice spread of wraps, salad, soup and dessert. It was truly a lovely experience. I was a bit late to the event so I didn't get the full run down but the owner (I presume) caught me up quick. Create a design of my choice, keep the tiles close to one another, tile all the way to the edge, keep the edges straight. After a moment of sheer overwhelm, I decided to Google mosaics online and I found a ton of different designs! I landed on a chicken. It was so much fun to sort the glass scraps, find the right pieces, and lay them on my tile in just the right manner. Post class, we left all our designs at the studio for them to grout for us and we will pick them up soon. Can't wait. Such a fun afternoon and a great place to get your creative on! read more

What a HUGELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE! No preparation and very limited materials. For $65 we only got to lay scraps of loose glass on a board. While browsing the TMCC Community Ed. catalog, I saw a class that provides instruction on glass fusion taught by Fused Finery. I explored Fused Finery website and found a Valentine-themed class on how to make a "Fused Glass Heart" scheduled for Jan 24th (see photo). I contacted a friend and we both signed up for the $65(each) class. When we arrived for the class on the appointed day, no one there knew we were coming or that a class was scheduled or how to make the advertised heart. After some discussion with the only employee there (and her on the phone with the owner), we were given materials that appeared to be scraps of glass left over from other people's projects because they were small and had sharpie marks where previous cuts were made. We found a few pieces of appropriate size as we struggled for enough material to make a 4" heart shape. Toward the end, she offered about 8 pieces of glass that she found elsewhere. We accented our hearts with a few pieces of "spaghetti" glass and strips (see photos) and were told that someone else would come the following weekend to cut out and fuse the heart. We didn't learn about how to cut glass, how the fusion/firing process works, or what/how equipment is used to make a final project. That following weekend came and went with no communication from Fused Finery. My friend and I emailed and called and on 2/5 I finally got a returned call to say that the owner, Roberta, was expected the next day (13 days from our "one day workshop") to complete our heart. We then received a call to ask if we wanted our heart completed with a hook for hanging or mounted on canvas. I said that the website photo showed a hook and the workshop description stated "you will adhere your finished heart to a canvas". The owner refused to do both, stating that she didn't have any canvas to mount the heart on. (then why ask us if they couldn't adhere the heart to a canvas?!) When I returned to the shop on the appointed pick up day (now 14 days from our "one day workshop"), I found that some of the accent "spaghetti" glass was left out and neither heart was symmetric. When I pointed out the lopsided shape, she ground away some of the glass, eventually grinding 1/2" off one side and a row of glass at the bottom. I left with mostly symmetrical hearts that were only similar to glass we arranged our "one day workshop". (see photos) read more

Found this place through the TMCC EPIC classes. Very happy with the product I ended up with. Apparently, TMCC did not send her a complete List of attendees (two of us were not on her list) the owner still was able to accommodate us. I wasn't sure at first as some of the more recent reviews were not favorable but I found the owner very helpful. I will definitely be back. read more

My friend and I scheduled and paid for a class based on the description noted on the company website. We received confirmation of payment. When we arrived for the class, the instructor did not know why we were there. We explained that we were there for a heart making class. Although she was very nice and tried her hardest to help, she had never taught that class before, nor did she even know how to create the heart project. We were given scraps of glass "that should work for the project" We looked at a sample and when I asked if I could use some of the embellishments on the sample, the instructor was not sure what they were or how to create them. So for the two hours we were in the class, all we did was place scraps of glass in a shape that could potentially be shaped into a heart. We did not learn how to cut the glass into any shape. We just left our projects and were told to pick them up in a week. After one week nobody contacted us. I left voicemails and sent emails with no response. To this day, I do not have a call back nor an email. My friend did get call back. We both spoke to the owner on a conference call. We discussed having the heart glued on a canvas as the finished product was originally presented. The owner seemed put out that she had to go purchase the canvas to glue the heart on. She did not have any in the shop. The end result was pretty but the class was no where near the price we paid. read more

Loved this studio when Judy owed it. New owner is very cold, loves control. You can sure tell she is a Californian and does not live here. More rules than I have ever seen for an art studio. Very much her way or the highway. After the warmth and support of the last 3 years it is a huge disappointment to go in now. Feels like Roberta begrudges us being there. Nickel and dimed to death Doubled the fees. Wants appointments for "open studio". Hmmmm. So tried again. She LOVES to tell us she has done glass for 40 years. Took all the joy out of the studio. Took what few items we where allowed to leave there and won't be going back. Such a shame, was such a warm and lovely place. Completely destroyed She has taken away all seating in the open studio, only allowed a seat when taking a class. Least enjoyable studio I have ever been in. She is also rude and only wants your money, no collaboration for projects. For those with health issues that find standing painful, this place is a BIG MISS. I love supporting small local businesses, have spent a fortune here over the years. Really disappointing place now. Have quit patronizing and buying my own kiln. She tore apart the work stations with grinders and equipment, up to you to set up each time. read more

Discovered Fused Finery through the TMCC Epic series by taking a stained glass sun catcher workshop in July. It was so enjoyable and so informative that I've taken a fused jewelry and another sun catcher workshop since. Will definitely be taking more workshops in the future. read more

Once you are hooked on fused glass, working in the open studio is a delight -- convenient location, happy and creative atmosphere, lovely selection of glass, well-maintained, well-organized equipment. Fused Finery also fits in beautifully to a Truckee-oriented Sunday: Brunch at NMA or picnic at Idlewild's rose garden, afternoon creating beautiful glass, afternoon snack at Rolled, splashing in the River on the beach at Arlington, and then concert or supper! read more
