A girlfriend and I came here on Sunday. Just an FYI, Sundays are family day where this is a discount for being with family or a big group. There happen to be a birthday party there when we arrived. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes for tables to clear out before we could get started. You are able to make reservations so that's good to know for the future ! We didn't really get a rundown about how the process worked when we arrived but there were signs and directions on the table that we followed. You pick out the piece you want and once finished, you pay for everything at the end! It looks like each piece takes about a week to process. You're told they will not contact you when your piece is ready unless there is something wrong. You are able to go in and pick it up whenever that day Pick up was very easy. We came here for date night and had a wonderful time! We made a reservation ahead of time but it wasn't really needed for a weeknight, the place was empty. They have a lot of fun pieces to choose from, I had a hard time deciding! Bigger pieces are more expensive. I went with a cactus dish and a little penguin. My husband did a large square mug. They have a lot of different paints and brushes to choose from depending on what you need. They recommend doing about 3 coats of paint to get the desired color. It doesn't take long for the paint to dry since the pottery soaks it up quickly, so 3 coats is not too time consuming. We only had about 1-2 hours to stay because of other plans, but I could see how people could spend several hours here! Our total was about $60 for our 3 small pieces and the studio fee. Seemed a bit pricey but would be worth it if you plan to stay longer. The pieces then get glazed and you come back in a week to pick them up. The lady couldn't find our pieces for a while, I probably waited about 10 mins for her to search and still come up empty handed. She asked if there's any other name it could be under because she couldn't find us in the computer system or in the labeled bag collection. Turns out, someone spelled our last name wrong and that was the issue. They found our pieces eventually but it seemed like this was not the best system. We were impressed with how everything looked after it was glazed, it's a big difference compared to when we finished painting them! Just went to a party here and had a great time! So many options it was hard to decide! So much to choose from: stamps, paintbrushes, colors, and pottery pieces. They are not skimpy with how much paint you can get or how much time it takes you to paint (my friend is very much a perfectionist and needs extra time!) We had a small baby shower for my friend and reserved the back party area. We brought snacks to eat before painting and gifts to open after it was really fun. First off, it's a little pricey! About $9 I think for the studio fee plus whatever pottery piece you pick out. I scheduled a birthday package--six people minimum for about $140. The nice thing is we were allowed to bring any food and drinks. The pottery pieces were limited to the $12 and under area, like my little frog. Other figurines included narwhals, cats, and unicorns. The selection was limited compared to what they had on display. Larger pieces could be as much as $24 to $36 and up. As part of the birthday package, I did get a large plate that was signed by all my birthday party attendees. Overall, we had a good experience. The young ladies helping us were friendly and explained the entire process very well. There was a large birthday party in the actual birthday party area and they used a lot of the paints, including the elusive black dotting paint for details. Upon picking up my finished pieces, I see that they gave us all coupons for the studio fee. That might make it worth returning for another small piece! In our fourteen years together, we've gone on many kinds of dates (never stop dating your wife, fellas). However we've never painted clay sculptures together. So today, that's exactly what we did. The concept is fairly simple. You pick which sculpture you'd like to paint (they vary by design, type, size, and price), choose your paint colors (you can use as many or little as you like), and get to work on your masterpiece. The attending employee was so, so friendly to us and everyone else who came in. She took the time to explain to us the full process, where the paints/brushes were, checked on us from time to time, and threw in a few tips to help us out. All in all, it was a fun time. Had a birthday party there. Came in and they didn't have any of the balloons that were suppose to be prepped before. I would say it would be better just to pay the cost per clay piece per person as you don't really get anything else with the birthday package . Also there were multiple groups that were in the area while the birthday group painted which was alittle annoying. We decided to come in to the Clay Canvas to paint some pottery! They have limited selections but we both found a piece that suited us perfectly. I chose a fox and my friend chose an elephant mug. The young woman working there was very helpful with getting us started and answering any questions we had. An hour and a half later, we were finished. We had fun and the experience was therapeutic. We were informed that it would take a week for our pieces to be ready for pick up. I'll make sure to include the final finished product come next Monday (4/16/18)! Edit: So today (4/17/18), I went to pick up our finished products and they look great! After firing, both pieces look much more vibrant with that nice glossy feel to it. I received a Gift Card to the Clay Canvas and took a friend with me to use it. They have many unpainted / unglazed plates, cups, and nick-nicks to pick from. I selected a Tea maker with attachable cup and my friend selected a cup to paint. They have many paints to select from along with samples of how each paint will look once glazed. Along with many other useful supplies. Even aprons! We did have to ask for assistance, they did not immediately help us. However, once we did ask for help they were extremely thorough in providing us with assistance. My friend and I had a relaxing time painting and playing catch up. Super disappointed in this place. We showed up in the afternoon on a Saturday and were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not since their website said walk-ins were welcome. Luckily, we were fit in and given a table but that was the last of the instruction we received. No one asked if we needed help or instruction on what to do. We replenished our own water when it was dirty and washed our own tools after. We were never checked on, through the whole 2-3 hour experience. I already had a negative experience from painting our clay and when I went to pick up our pottery, was further disappointed. My husband's bowl had random blue paint and some of his paint was chipped off of his pottery. It looked like some other pottery had been stacked on it or something. Mine "had a bad reaction to the glaze" during the firing stage and I did not receive the final product. I was given a gift certificate to come back at another time but I'm so disappointed that I will not be back. They did refund me for the price of my piece and the studio time, which was appreciated. But overall, highly disappointed with the experience and even the product we did receive back. read more

My boyfriend and I had the greatest time here! We stumbled over the The Clay Canvas right when they were closing while we were having date night at Candle Vino. The staff members were very kind and welcomed us in even though they were obviously cleaning up. Mahal walked us through the options and recommendations for which days were good times so come by. Both employees were wearing masks and pricing was a steal compared to a Color Me Mine. We scheduled a date night with some friends a month or so later. Mahal had mentioned we were okay to bring our own drinks so we grabbed a wine bottle next door. We forgot cups and next door was not willing to part with cups. Right when we had given up Mahal found us a wine opener and gave us some Dixie cups from the water! She was fantastic and checked in to see if we needed clean water for the brushes and shared recommendations with us. There was great music and we ended up having a great time. We got so caught up in making our pieces Mahal had to warn us of closing time (we had been there for 2+ hours without any push to hurry up). We patiently waited the week to pickup and we were disappointed to see Mahal was not there for us to thank her! The Clay Canvas has a great employee on their hands and we CANNOT wait to go again! My boyfriend, his mom, and I came for a fun date day over Labor Day Weekend. It was the second time that I have been here. I think this is a fun concept to have in Reno, NV. I grew up painting pottery with my friends throughout high school, but it has been a long time since I have done it. Recently something sparked the interest to come again. I personally think that it is an excellent place to unwind, relax, and unleash your imagination. Walking in you get a great view of the selection of items that you can choose to paint, various tables, the paint/paintbrushes/stamps, and a back party area. There is no previous artistic experience required to create your own art piece. You come in, pick your piece, paint/ design it, and then they do the rest. They fire your piece in a kiln and you get to pick it up around 1 week later. They have a wide selection of paints, brushes, stencils, stamps, and idea books. However, I do think this this place is a bit pricey. They have a flat studio rate of around 9 dollars and then you pay for the price of each piece. So if you are coming with a group is sure adds up. The pieces range from around 4-40 dollars. Most of them average around 20 dollars. I decided to paint a flower dish, which seemed like a unique piece. I think I am gonna use it to hold my rings or some sort of jewelry piece in my room. There was not a lot that I could stamp or add stencils to it. I added my own flare by painting various red and orange colors to each of the flower pedals. My boyfriend, Bryan made an awesome doughnut box, which looks just like a chocolate glazed doughnut. It is awesome. His mom, Linda painted a yellow serving bowl, that could be great to eat snacks/dips out of. My only complaint is regarding the girl who was working on the day that we went. She seemed busy designing her own projects. She took awhile to come over and explain things to our group. When you asked her a question, she was straight and to the point, and did not elaborate on anything. Although, everyone seemed very nice when we picked up our pieces. They even wrapped them in tissue paper and put them in a bag for us. I would definitely recommend coming here during the day to paint an awesome piece of pottery. read more

I love this place! It's my favorite place for a date night (other than a couch with netflix and surrounded by snacks). Super simple process and super helpful service. I've been here twice: once as a work function, and then liked it so much I brought my mom and kids back for Mother's Day. Both experiences were great! When we initially got there as a work group, the girls working the counter seemed ... less than enthused about their jobs. They let us figure things out on our own for the most part, and then retreated to a table to gossip together. Luckily, they were soon relieved by Alana (I think her name was?) who was just sweet as pie, helpful and available. Everyone had a blast. She and another gentleman were there when we came back for our Mother's Day reservation and it was perfect. My mom and kids had a wonderful time picking out and painting their pieces, and everything was organized so well. We even for flowers from them, and sitting fees were free for moms that day. Normal prices aren't bad at all, and the pottery is very well priced. I'm really into memories over things as gifts; Clay Canvas gives you the best of both worlds. Had a great time here last night with a group of friends. I'm not the least bit crafty, but the staff was able to help me choose the best brushes and paints for the cup and saucer I painted. The staff even helped out when I inevitably ruined my plate with a stamp that came out crooked, and fixed it back up so it didn't look like it was made by a 5-year-old. Prices for the items and supplies was very reasonable, and the only thing I was sad about was the fact that you have to wait a week to pick up your item (which I totally understand, I was just excited to use it immediately). I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. They have a great selection of items to paint and a ton of supplies. It was fun, easy, and enjoyable. My items turned out great! I have recommended quite a few people to go to the Clay Canvas. My only complaint is regarding te girl they have working evenings. On both occasions I have been in she has had an attitude and been pushy with us about leaving. They close at 9:00. We came in a little before 8 and on of the first things she said was "Oh, well I'll probably have to wrap up your stuff because, you know, we close in an hour". She gave us a 15 minute warning. Exactly at 9:00 she asked if she could take our stuff because they were closed now and we could come back another day. Had we been mid way through a project I could have been more understanding, but I was finished and my fiancé was putting a final coat of paint on a small design. I had my 12yr old's birthday there yesterday and Gianna and Natalie were simply the best staff ever! So attentive, they spoke the kids' language! They were very helpful, very flexible and everyone had such a blast! They have holiday calendar and a costume party on the 31st for Halloween and so many other fun stuff. We had a great time! it was my daughters B-day so we took the whole family. Trying to keep it reasonable we decided to only paint items on the $12 rack. Our choices were pretty good. Plates, bowls, mugs and cups, piggy banks, various small animals and more. The only setback was that more than a few of the writable paints were dried up and unusable, and a lot of brushes seemed out of whack (shedding) There were two people working, both very friendly and helpful. Nice place. We were there for Art Town event. I was amazed that they had us all on one table in the back instead of sitting anywhere in the studio. In the end it was fun because we interacted with other customers. The staff was moderately helpful but maybe because we were there at a busy time.
