Pretty cool resource for our community

A maker space that has a lot of room to show and share your art. Many "burners" use this location to get their art ready. I understand they have an excellent wood shop that is available for use but I don't know the terms. All sorts of groups use the space. There is a fee for that.

This is a maker space with an eclectic mix of art work. On the Third Thursday the artists display their works for sale. I went with a couple of friends and we checked out the art and had a nice visit and enjoyed the vibe.

II was a vendor at the Generator"s Third Thursay event. The whole process was friendly, efficient and professional. The Generator is a non-profit membership maker space but the Third Thursday event is open for artists and community member to sell their work. The space is primarily industrial and lots of large sculptural builds are happening and everything is very dirty. My advice for vendors is to bring covers and drop cloths. There is a small bar inside to buy a beer and also a coffee and ice tea space. The event was well attended and there was a food truck in the parking lot. Lots of artists to meet and Burning Man installations to see. There were carts to borrow to help with loading and unloading but I found the parking lot was surprisingly dark at the end of the event and I wish I had brought a flashlight The selling and payment set up is easy for the artist and customer. I recommend Third Thursday for artists looking for a place to sell and show their work with a low overhead ( the Generator charges 10% of your sales only) and a fun night out for art enthusiasts of all ages. .

I went to their open house and was just amazed. I had no idea there was such a place in Reno that would allow for the public to come in and create art (of all sorts) by using the equipment on hand. Everyone there is happy to share their knowledge and tools. If you want to learn how to weld, yes, they will teach you (for FREE). the same goes for just about everything else. the hours are always open so long as someone else is there. great for those who maybe work odd hours and still want to go work on something. seems like a burners haven (at least that is the feeling I got). everyone friendly and eager to share what they know. this is a not for profit establishment, so if you do go by and use their stuff, please donate to help keep this place going.

Super cool event with locals selling vintage items, local art, beer and live bands!! I bought some vintage band pins and patches to put on my denim jacket!! Love the 80's!! :)

I had to have some laser printing done and was told The Generator was the place to go to. It did not disappoint. I have never done any printing of this kind before and contacted them ahead of time. There is a schedule online so you can see availability and then you email and set up your time. Lindsay was very helpful with scheduling and asking questions to see what I needed to do. I arrived at The Generator and it's a humongous warehouse filled with all kinds of artistic treats. I was told that this wasn't the busy season so there wasn't as much going on, but it still was so cool to see! There was something to look at at every turn. Lindsay greeted me and was so wonderful helping my novice butt with the laser printer. I can't thank him enough. Not only was he helpful, but very knowledgeable and great to talk to. Did I mention this place is FREE? Yes, FREE! After my stenciling was finished, the only thing left to do was to clean up my mess and I was on my way. Thank you, Lindsay and The Generator. I will be back!

The Generator! WOW! If you haven't been by here to check out the happenings, you are missing out. This is a community art space, inspired by burning man. I had the pleasure of meeting a colleague here today and checking out the space - it was amazing! The building is huge and inviting, filled with local artists and their art projects. Anyone is welcome at the generator, whether it be to join in on a social event, check out some cool local art projects in the making, or explore your creative side and try out a project of your own. Inside is a wood shop, metal shop, fabric shop, movie theater, aerial silks area, etc. - yes, it sounds as good as it actually is! Just like burning man, there is no money exchange here, but rather it is a donations funded space that is open to anyone willing to participate in the community of art and inclusion. If you are confused, check out their website for more information. "The Generator is an oasis of demodification. We don't buy. We don't sell. We dream. We convene. We create. We make." Today I got to watch artists work on Project Embrace - incredible! For those of you that are burners, you get a mini burning man rush as you enter this space.

Heads up: the gift shop closed before we could grab anything, and the closing announcements were pretty firm--if you weren't already in line, it was a no-go. Totally fair, just something to keep in mind when planning your visit! There are so many exhibits that we definitely had to move quickly, but it was still 100% worth it. Pro tip: save the downstairs water feature for last--it's an absolute blast for the whole family! As a special needs family, we felt really comfortable here. Our 5-year-old loved the freedom to walk and explore, and our 1-year-old had a great time in the littles area and with the water play. The huge cloud play structure looked amazing, but we skipped it since there's only one way in and out--just didn't feel like the right call for us this time. Bonus: let your kids take the stairs to burn off energy! But if you've got a stroller, wheelchair, or just want an easier route, elevators are available too. Overall, such a fun spot--we'll definitely be back (with more time next time)!

The museum is not very large and most of our kiddos love the Truckee river exhibit as they play there more. It could be the age. Just bring some spare clothes or a towel as they may be drenched. As they get older they may like to do the other exhibits more. They have lego, space, anatomy, physics, and engineering zones. They also have a lab with daily activities. The amazing part is there are plenty of things to do. The downside is the parking lot gets packed fast, but thats a good thing. So give yourself time if looking for a spot. Its super cool for the kiddos and there is even a cute little toddler playground. So please enjoy the space and time.

It is here where you find traces of Giants that once called downtown Sparks home( PS if you're wondering what I mean by giant I mean Bertha, Tina and Angel, the elephants that ones lived at the Nugget Casino) Even the very building itself is history with it being built as a library and courthouse in 1931 and functioning as the first official public library for the city of Sparks. If you are a resident of the Truckee Meadows or any kind of history enthusiast, I highly recommend visiting this museum, as well as checking out Last Chance Joe the 30 foot prospector next-door to the museum as well as the two parks that surrounded ( Sparks Memorial Park and Lillard Park) combined all three of these locations. Tell the story of Sparks, Nevada, and how it was started as a small railroad town that was literally transported to where it is now by rail to the growing city that it has become since it's founding in 1904. It was a blast trying to get the individually articulating fingers to close around the ball in order to lift it into the basket for the big reward. We also enjoyed the oversized battleship game. So fun to play and we spent 20-30 min there. Mr Potato Head was old school fun too. We made a competition out of it to see who could make the wackiest example. I think I won... or maybe my kids let me win. But the favorite had to be the mini arcade they had setup with some of the best old school cabinets. Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Dig Dug and so many more are all here as part of the exhibit and you could spend a long time here without realizing it! Oh and there's even a Zoltar fortune teller too! Also, they have a snack bar with fresh popped popcorn $9 -$13 and huge pretzels $14. Chase Hasty and his wife have traveled around the world to over 25 countries sharing their magical talent and ballet dancing skills. My favorite part of the show was when Chase brought out a locked box and Hoisted the box with a rope up to the ceiling and told this guy to watch the box. Later in the show they opened the box, it was a pretty impressive trick!!! One not to be forgotten!! It's a small production but well thought out with couple extra dancers and costumes changes. I love that Chase, picks people out of the audience to help with the show. Maddox was a return kid that had been practicing his magic and Chase let him perform in front of the audience and what is that called "That's Magic!!!" It's nice the performers will met you afterwards in the hallway to have pictures and ask questions. It's a great family night or you can come to the later show at 9pm for a little more risky nocturnal show. I'll have to save that one for another time!

We then enjoyed the bakery in the lower level, quickly admired the Bristlecone clock in the library before departing. There was a section under development that we were unable to explore and we did almost miss the Ernesto Neto exhibit as the entryway was right next to the blocked off area under development. As we were preparing to exit, my wife saw the small entryway next to a table where someone was stationed to block off the section under development. The person stationed there said nothing.
