Those are all the pottery pieces made by three couples on one date night!

Looking for a great date night? The Wedge is a super fun activity! 2 hours of molding clay on a potters wheel. I made 4 pieces, and others made 5. It's up to you. Super relaxed atmosphere, excellent, hands-on instruction from Denali, our wonderful instructor at The Wedge Pottery Studio. Nice selection of desert type snacks and some sparkling cider was provided. We opted to bring a bottle of our own choosing... Good times!

    Our first time...

A coworker suggested a new outing for us, so this was it. Never heard of the Chili carry and cash, but after she explained how it was a great way to help the community, here we were. We arrived just after 4:30 . As we got closer to the shop, cars were already parking further away. I was able to get street parking nearby. I love the atmosphere of a cold, crisp holiday shopping hustle and bustle. People buzzing around full of excitement, and lines starting to form. I mentioned it was our first time, so they explained the process of Viking our browns , then coming back to pay, then directing us to try the chili and cornbread. As we were paying they offered the additional spoons to the purchase of the bowl, ($25 for the bowl or $40 for bowl and spoon)so we agreed. I thought we needed the spoon to eat the chili, but the had utensils where the food was. Next year we will be attending, but getting more ceramics!

My finished product - a little vase (before being thrown in the kiln and glazed)!

I first visited Wedge Ceramics Studio last summer as a work anniversary appreciation gift from my company. This gift was coordinated through a third-party vendor, which led to some difficulty in locating the pre-paid private lesson. Wedge is located on Dickerson, and was a little hard to find at first. Upon arrival, I was a little confused as there was no one at the desk for check-in or check-out. After asking a few people in another room, I was guided to the right spot. Because they couldn't locate my reservation, it took a little extra time; once that was squared away, they took down my name, email, and phone number to contact me when my pieces were done that I would create. The lesson was a 2-hour private session. The instructor led us through the basics and allowed us to make as many pieces as our session would allow. He was patient and it really seemed like he wanted us to experiment and learn for ourselves; after all, making mistakes and course-correcting allows for the best learning! He didn't believe in "hand-holding," so to speak, but I made sure to ask questions when I had them. As someone whose crafty side is not often awakened, this was a great opportunity to do so. While throwing clay is not for me, I can say that I appreciate the process even more. I've already been back to purchase some flower vases!

This place is amazing! After college, I gave up ceramics thinking I could never afford the setup or the electricity bill from the kiln. This place makes it all possible. They have Open Throw Wednesdays from 4-8pm. For $20, you're able to throw pieces on the wheel, slab build or whatever your heart desires with their recycled clay. They also have month-long classes for $120 where you meet once a week and they teach you the basics. Sutter and JC are amazing instructors and always open to answering questions.

For Valentine's Day, they had a deal which was $120 for a couple for 3 hours. There were chocolate covered strawberries, wine, beers, chocolates, and other snacks. We were able to make 6-7 pieces, in which we were able to take home the best 5. The whole process took about a month including glazing and firing. Regardless the time, the process was still an amazing experience that I am glad to have done. I have already recommended some friends for their date nights, and they loved it. The Wedge does offer classes that range from beginner to expert. They also have pieces to sell in their store. The owners are a couple, so sweet and accommodating! I will definitely come back during their open community throw time on Wednesday's 6-9pm. Do yourself a favor and take your special someone on a date here, it will be a very fun-filled night!

Yes, yes, yes! What a fun place. This review is solely for the "Chilly cash and carry event". What a super cool idea. You show up, scour the tables for your forever bowl and then you get to fill it with delicious chili from Liberty. All of this for $20. After I looked at every single bowl (I think there were hundreds) I finally committed to a kind of wonky colorful bowl that represents me perfectly. I'll attach a pic. I did have a chance to chat with a couple lovely ladies that frequent wedge to make their own ceramics and they both RAVED about the place. One pays for passes and the other has a membership. From what I can tell the membership allows you 24-hour access to the studio which is pretty darn cool. You also get storage space for your materials and projects. If I was at all crafty I would jump on that. I am quite content being a purchaser of their wares rather than a maker. If you are looking for a cute gift or even some new decor for your place you should check out Wedge. #shoplocal

The class size was perfect for this activity, allowing for the teacher to adequately share instructions, demonstrate the process, and work one-on-one with students as needed. The instructions were organized on a print out with all the materials and supplies needed to replicate the activity at home and referenced during the instruction portion of the class. The materials for the class were well-maintained and organized at each place setting for each student. I've taken other art classes elsewhere and I felt like this was a step above with regard to organization, instruction, and take away materials. I loved the experience so much that I'm going to take another class in October, and this time I'm bringing a friend! In addition to the art classes and studio, Copper Cat also has a delightful little art/gift shop with items made from the artists in studio. Most are in the front shop, but some pieces are scattered throughout. Take your time looking at all the wonderful pieces... so many great art gems for sale at very affordable prices. As a walk in on a week day there were a couple groups of students touring and a few other walk ins, but for the most part it seemed like we had the place to ourselves. We spent a couple hours taking in as much as possible, from fully immersing ourselves in Ernesto Neto's Children of the Earth to exploring other works like one of my favorites, Ducks in a Row by Clare Rojas. We then enjoyed the bakery in the lower level, quickly admired the Bristlecone clock in the library before departing. There was a section under development that we were unable to explore and we did almost miss the Ernesto Neto exhibit as the entryway was right next to the blocked off area under development. As we were preparing to exit, my wife saw the small entryway next to a table where someone was stationed to block off the section under development. The person stationed there said nothing. Luckily her curiosity led us the exhibit, but we could've easily missed it.

I got a Groupon and the reviews were mixed. It seems like if you are lucky enough to get the right workshop/teacher/materials, it's great! But that doesn't always happen. So I sorta knew I was taking my chances but I do not think it should be that way! I booked online and the email says- You're all set! But I called a couple hours ahead of time to confirm. No one called me back so I had my suspicions as I headed over that maybe the class would be a bust. There's a sign on the door to knock and/or call...i did both, to no avail. Left another message. I waited for like 15 minutes (I really wanted to make the mosaic!!) and then left. A week later, I am still left wondering. Groupon refunded me so that part worked out but I would have been extra mad if I were trying to get my money back from this business that ghosted me. So you're definitely taking your chances if you do! Sad. I wanted the lucky great workshop experience.

I called several times, no answer. We held onto hope and waited 25 minutes for an employee to show up. Eventually, someone did -- but the reason? Her boss asked her to pick something up. So this lady completely forgot about our appointment and then proceeded to laugh about the irony of her boss reminding her to check online for any appointments prior to this happening. She seemed indifferent overall. The process of making a mosaic is really fun and tedious. That part was great! Only do the 8x8 mosaic workshop if you're okay with figuring it out yourself; the employee there did not guide us at all, despite knowing it was our first time. Once we were finished, she told us that they would need to fill in the gaps with grout and that we would receive a call sometime throughout the week if we were unable to pick up the finished pieces the immediate following day. A week goes by and no calls were received. Shocker, really. Today (October 1st) at around 2:30pm, we called to ask if we could pick up our finished pieces. The same employee from last week answered the phone and told us, "yes," we could, they just "close at 3." We told her it'll only take 15 minutes to get there, which she sounded okay with. We arrive at 2:45pm and catch the lady running back inside, as though she was just in the process of leaving. Which we confirmed to be the case, as she handed our pieces off to us and talked about how she was "leaving early" and we "got here at the just the right time." At this point, I am dumbfounded with how awful this employee is. She hears that a customer is coming to pick up their piece before closing and her instant thought is to leave early/before the customer arrives? As for the cherry on top, the grout looks terrible. There's so many holes. I felt like my contribution to the piece (the glass placement) was done well, but if I had known the employees were going to be careless about it.. I would have done it myself. I am pretty unhappy with the way it turned out and it's not because of my own doing. This place has potential to be great. I feel bad leaving a review like this, but something has to be said. Please do not go here if you're looking for a good glass art experience -- I promise you, this is not it.

It wasn't busy and the two young girls working greeted us quickly and got us started on some slime making. The experience itself is really cool. It lasts quite awhile and there are tons of steps from texture to aroma to colors. Every step involves some level of decision making so if you have a really little one, like I do, it's definitely best to accompany them through the whole thing. A grade school aged kid could mostly do everything on their own. After choosing some texture, color, smells, and mixing, you can play with your slime for as long as you'd like. Then you can do your mix ins and package it up. The cost is the toughest thing to stomach about this place. It's $25 to make a slime, so for my two kids and taxes, it was nearly $60 to make something that will likely eventually have to be thrown away. The prices on the retail slimes that you could buy and make at home seemed much more reasonable- around $15. I loved this for my kids- but just this once. I think it would have to be a special occasion to come back and do it again. I could see myself picking up a retail slime for a gift. If you don't mind the $25 price tag, this could be a staple experience for you! Still 5 stars in my book.
