A great place to get your Alcohol Card/Alcohol Awareness training. The process was simple and easy. After completing my online class, I had to go to the training area to do the in-person test. Not at all what I expected! I was thinking it would be cold and bureaucratic, but it was actually kinda fun and a very pleasant experience. To start off, Linda, the first point of contact, was friendly, professional and made everyone who came in for the course feel comfortable and welcome. For taking an in-person class it is walk-in and no reservation needed. Times are 9AM and 1PM and you need to come in 15 minutes early to register. Registration is very easy - hand over $20 in cash, fill out a simple form with your contact information and show your picture ID. Then they take your picture for the card. After that you can sit and wait for the class to start. The gentleman who provided the training was efficient and in going through the powerpoint presentation just hit the highlights and important stuff that we needed to meet the requirements to legally serve alcohol in Nevada. He made it easy to compete the test - he went through each question after giving us the legal information and let us answer the questions right there. Everyone got 100%. Learned a LOT about the wacky rules and regulations for alcohol and the gaming industry. The big takeaways were your personal liability when serving alcohol, how do you know when someone has had too much, when to ask for proof of age (must be 21 in Nevada) and how to spot a fake ID. I must say thank you to the wonderful woman running the front desk here. She has the patience of a saint, unlike me, and has that matronly sternness that'll stop any good boy in his tracks. Before I explain where these learnings came from, here's how to renew your Alcohol Awareness Card in Reno: 1) Complete the online course OR visit this office at EITHER 9am or 2pm (arriving 15 minutes early to register) NOTE: Bring $20 cash if taking the class. 2a) Online students print the certificate at the end of the course, then call this office to schedule an appointment for testing. 2b) If taking the class in person, you'll be tested and receive your card right there. 3) Online Only - Go for your appt, take the test and receive your card. NOTE: Bring $15 Cash to pay. I called the number in the website to find out how I could go about renewing my alcohol awareness card and was told to simply drop by the facility either at 9am or 2pm, let them know I was renewing my card and they'd no what to do. I specifically asked about retaking the class or online course and was told it was unnecessary for a renewal. So I did what I was told but when I arrived I found out 9am and 2pm are the class times AND in order to renew I needed to take the class again or complete the online course. So I left (frustrated) and went home and took the online course and printed the certificate they provide to bring back to the office. Well, I didn't read the certificate and it said I needed to call for a testing appointment, so when I showed up, I was told I was there at the wrong time AGAIN! To say I was upset was an understatement. I just wanted to take the test, get the card, and be done. Luckily the woman allowed me to take the test right then and there and finish this up. I'm good for another 4 years AND now I know exactly what to do for the next time. read more

Get your alcohol card quick and easy! First, sign up online, go through the training online (FREE) to prepare you for the onsite test. -call them to find out the next onsite testing for the online session (done a couple times a day) arrive, fill out a short form, take your picture - TAKE $15 CASH - and a printed copy of your completed online cert - take the test (at most 20 min if you are really slow). - they review your answers (and explain any you got wrong) -get your card and leave. total about 30 min. I recently had to help my friend get his card and I have to say it was a easy process. I went online I did the training with my friend.for a few hours and was then asked to come in to take a test. Located near the corner of South Virginia Street and Moana intersection. The process of obtaining your alcohol awareness card is very simple. Take the online training then come down to this testing center to take the exam. The inside is pretty clean, the staff was friendly, the testing environment was quiet, and most importantly now I won't get in trouble when I serve alcohol at my friend's wedding! I did the online training and my wife had the in-class training. Hers took about 45 minutes including taking the test and she was done. Mine took a lot longer(a week) studying while working etc. The price for in-class is just a tad more but had I known the time difference, would gladly have done that.
