I like the shop and all the ladies who work there, but the machine repair took MONTHS and didn't really fix the problem. Twice.

Lots to see! It was really worth visiting this store. Wanted to see their sister store in Sparks.

They do not use the bar code scanners each price put in individually and then sale price deducted. Make sure you watch the clerk. You will never have clear isles. They are always moving stock and changing the shelves. Good and bad experiences with it. Seasonal items are not just in one section so you have to walk the entire store ...(marketing trick). Small fabric area, lots of yarn, lots of household decorations. Framing shop along with art supplies.

After sitting in line for 10 minutes, the next lane over opens up. Instead of taking the next person in line, which was me, they took everybody behind me, so I had to sit there and still wait for the smooth-brained mouthbreather in front of me to figure out that the flowers that she was holding in her hand weren't actually on sale. It took her another two minutes to decide whether to buy them or not, by which time everybody that had been behind me in line had purchased and left. In the land of manners, you take the next person in line, he's been waiting the longest. But not here, because "Thag no count." Well done, Hobby lobby. As always.

Having said this, I experienced a tragic & sudden loss of a friend. Prior to her death, I signed up for a class and because of this sudden death, I was not able to attend. I called Sierra Sewing in Reno to see about a refund due to these unforeseen circumstances. After two attempts, I finally spoke with Jared and was told I would not receive a refund because their policy states the last day you are allowed to cancel, for a refund, is 7 days prior to class date/time.  My friend died suddenly and there is no way I could give them a 7 day advance notice-given the circumstances surrounding her tragic death. I have spent many thousands of dollars at Sierra Sewing and after being a loyal customer I am told I will not receive my refund because "that is the policy."  I will never shop at Sierra Sewing again. We never know what life will throw at us and instead of sympathy or sorry for my loss, I was told "sorry, you have to cancel 7 days before the class. That's our policy." Think twice before you give them your money. They lack empathy and are unable to understand life's unpredictable events and finally, they do not appreciate a loyal customer. When they show you who they are-believe them.

I dropped my machine off May 14th for routine service and paid the up front deposit they required…read more I received a call from one of their repair technicians on May 22nd. When I talked with the technician, he told me that the motherboard and associated parts had to be replaced as a clip had broken on a ribbon cable and someone must have been rough with the machine when servicing it. I told him that I had only taken it to Sierra Sewing for the last 5-6 years and he walked back the comment about someone being rough and said well they are plastic so sometimes they just break. He then asked me to check and see if the machine was still under warranty or not. It was not. So I had to prepay for a $915 part. I was told it would take 3-4 weeks for the part to come in and they would call as soon as the repair was done. I didn't hear anything after the four weeks from that day when the order was placed so I called on June 5th to get an update and was then told "the parts just show up when they show up as we don't have a way to track them." This was the first time I requested to speak with a manager. They took my information and told me the manager would call me back. (he didn't) I waited a couple of more weeks and called again on June 29th asking for an update and to speak to a manager and received the same song and dance. They also told me the manager was at a Bernina event and would be out until the following week but he would call me then. (he didn't.) I called again asking few weeks later on August 4th and surprisingly the manager - Jared - answered. I told him the issue I had been having and what I was told by his repair person. Initially all he could see was that the machine was brought in for one service. I had him look up my grandmothers name and he read through the service record showing it had been there for service for the last 5-6 years. He said he was the only one with order tracking ability but the part should be in that Wednesday. He told me he would speak with the repair person and call me back. The manager called me back on Monday, August 10th and I returned his call quickly but he was unavailable. I left my information and didn't receive a call back. I tried again on the 13th but received the same answer and again, did not receive a call back. I called twice on Monday the 17th and finally was able to get him on the phone again on the second try. He indicated the part was in and that the machine was not purchased from their shop even though that was where it had been serviced. He said sometimes it just happens with where the plastic piece is by the motor and the heat degrades the plastic. I asked if I could expect to run into the same issue in the future and he said no, it was a fluke. This tells me that this was damage done by rough handling and they were not willing to own up to it even though I do not travel with the machine nor have I taken it apart or had any other shop take it apart. The best he could do was take 20% off the part price and deduct it from the repair bill. Still ended up paying an additional $100. I asked him when the machine would be ready and he said they would have it done by Tuesday or the latest Wednesday. I asked if someone would call me when it was ready and he said yes. I once again, did not receive a call, I had to call and ask about the status and if the machine was ready to be picked up. Also, had they received the part on the Wednesday (8/6) he initially communicated it would be in, they waited a week and half before working on the machine and getting it done even though they had already had it four months. All that to say, be careful if you take your machine here and have any sort of trouble. It will take a very long time to get it resolved and if you don't follow up you will not receive any kind of consistent follow up or communication from anyone. And in the end they don't do right by the customer even when it is their error. They have lost myself and my grandmother as customers. And I still have yet to receive the refund to my card for the part.
